Food Scene

For coffee (or tea) in Rhinebeck the "place' to go to is "Bread Alone". Bread Alone is a wonderful and newly expanded breakfast and lunch joint. Bread Alone has a long history in the Hudson Valley and started out as a tiny bakery with a coffee shop added on in Woodstock. The best breads and baked treats in the Hudson Valley. And a great place to hangout and shoot the breeze. They make amazing Blueberry Muffins and a sweet little thing called a "Paris Apple Tart"!

Rhinebeck is one of the oldest towns and villages in New York State with significant place in it's history. Home to the "oldest inn in America" the Beekman Arms! It is believed George Washington had stayed at the Inn. Go there for a great breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Drinks & Nightlife

Fun, comfortable "basement" venue and bar. With a restaurant upstairs. I had been there years ago before Liberty and wasn't impressed with either of them. BUT, the new owners have transformed this basement into a very, very cool space. Worthwhile just to take a look.

Parks & Nature

One of my favorites parks in Rhinebeck is "Poet's Walk" a beautiful park bordering on the Hudson River. The views of the Hudson are stunning. Long, meandering paths leading down to the Hudson RiverAnd dogs are welcome! The Gazebo at the top of the hill provides really great views.

Just a mile or two outside of Rhinebeck check out Mill's Mansion - Norrie State Park which is located right on the river. You can tour the iconic mansion, walk the ground... The views are just spectacular, especially in the fall when the autumn colors light up the entire valley. Walk down by the river to dip your feet and to visit the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve and Environmental Center. The center has been undergoing some construction on their roof, so call before going.

Arts & Culture

For a extra treat go to "UpState Films" one of the few independent movie houses left in America. You'll find them tucked away on Route 9 next to the "Starr Building". They always have two or three great movies playing as well as special events. And they cost a lot less then the big movie houses.

Shopping

"Winter Sun-Summer Moon" is a fantastic little shop ran by my friend Lila. You'll have to stay there for a good couple of minutes just to see all the incredible little gifts Lila has brought back from her world travels.
