Monte Isola is one of the highest lake islands in Europe. Monte Isola can be reached through a network of ferry connection with regular schedules. There are two main ports Carzano and Peschieria (which is the bigger and with more things to do) with a frequent ferry service with the surrounding mainland villages, including Iseo. Driving restrictions are currently enforced, with mopeds and bicycles only allowed on the island. An extensive grid of dedicated bike lanes and hiking trails span all over the island, reaching the peaceful fishing villages with lakeside cafés and the Madonna della Ceriola chapel, nested near the summit of the island. A circular trail of almost 15 km allows a complete tour of Monte Isola.

The Natural Reserve of the bogs of the Lake, declared a “wetland of international importance” under the Ramsar Convention and Site of Community Interest (SCI) of the Natura 2000 network, is considered a priority area for biodiversity in the Po Valley in Lombardy. Iseo, on the south-eastern shore, is the town after which the lake is named. seo is a small town which has developed round an old medieval village. The centre of the town is Piazza Garibaldi; in the middle of the square there is a statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi standing on top of a moss-covered tuff base. It was the first Italian monument (1883) to be dedicated to the “hero of the two worlds” and is the work of the Veronese sculptor, P. Bordini. Overlooking the square is the austere town hall with its clock, which was designed by the architect, R. Vantini, and completed in 1833. The building on the south side of the square with its portico reveals some frescoes which remind us of its medieval origins. The waters in the nearby harbour, which was once fortified, flowed into the present day square, lapping against galleries and walls. Proceeding with your back to Garibaldi, the square leads into Piazza dello Statuto and, not far to the right of this square, you can see the Arsenal. There are a lot of restaurants, bars, bakery, little shops, grocieries, little supermarket. In the night there are also some nice pubs and bars to enjoy the night with friends or family.

The town of Castro, as is clear from the name (from the Latin Castrum), is of Roman origin. It is an ancient fortified town, built on the remains of a fortress destroyed in 1437. In the district called Rocca (Fortress) you can still admire a wonderful proto-Romanesque temple, restored in the eighties. The real residential area, with its respectful calm and a spectacular panoramic view over the lake, is the Rocca, with its recently restored Chiesetta di S.Lorenzo (Little Church of St. Lawrence), where the annual patronal festival is held. Another place of interest is the road leading to Sarnico. Its sheer drop to the lake makes it a popular destination with photographers and enthusiasts thanks to the colours and hues that the waters naturally take on in this place.

Lovere is a town and comune in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy, Italy, at the northwest end of Lake Iseo. The houses in the city have overhanging wooden roofs, typical of Switzerland, united with the heavy stone arcades of Italy; it faces a lake and has a semicircle of mountains behind. Lovere is part of The most beautiful villages in Italy, an Association that notes small Italian towns of strong artistic and historical interest.
