Westfields in Stratford is definitely my favourite place to shop. It basically has every shop you need; from clothes to grocery shopping to some really nice restaurants. The mall is spread across a few levels and not having to push through tourists, like you would on Oxford street, is amazing! It’s clean, well designed and enclosed, which means there’s no need to worry about the weather! The tube station is located right next it which makes for easy transport. Worth a visit for all your shopping (or eating) needs.

A classy modern European restaurant with a good selection of wine to drink in or take home. There aren’t many places to get a decent meal in Stratford and that’s where Darkhorse comes galloping in, a stylish eatery in a sea of chains. The Spanish- and Italian-inspired menu works for both tapas-style sharing or a more traditional three-course scenario. We mixed and matched, finding small plates to be a bit hit and miss, with juicy tiger prawns and padrón peppers overshadowing a disappointing roast avocado with ricotta (there’s never any need to heat up an avo!). Melted Monte Enebro cheese with rosemary honey was satisfyingly indulgent but the charcuterie platter was a tad uninspiring. It wo

The immaculate parklands to the north launched in summer 2013, their paths and waterways enhanced by the new Timber Lodge with its cafe. Next came the Zaha Hadid-designed Aquatics Centre (opened in March 2014; £3.50-£4.50 adults, £2-£2.50 concs), which is open for public swimming and diving sessions, followed by the VeloPark, home to road, track, BMX and mountain biking, and the southern section of the park. The latter comprises all the remaining parkland, including children's play areas, four walking trails, a couple of dozen public artworks, plus the attraction of ascending the ArcelorMittal Orbit. The curly-wurly red scaffolding tower lords it over the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from its position right alongside the Olympic Stadium. Designed by the artist Anish Kapoor and structural engineer Cecil Balmond, it stands 114.5m (376ft) tall – with lifts (and a 455-step staircase) up to two platforms from which you take in the interesting, if not entirely spectacular, view – The Shard, St Paul’s and the Wembley arches are all very much on the skyline. There are also two of Kapoor's entertaining distorting mirrors inside and some newly installed digital telescopes so that you can get closer to the views.

Parks & Nature

Its a really nice big park right in the centre of London covering an area between Bayswater, Mayfair and Kensington/knightsbridge. Perfect if you like picnics outside on summer days or a little taste of culture, history and nature. The Serpentine gallery and Magazine are in the middle in Kensington gardens. This is one gallery in two historic buildings about 5 minutes walk from each other. The Serpentine gallery has an exciting annual outdoor meeting space designed by a different architect or designer each year in summer. These can vary a lot in ambience but usually contain a café and seating area for visitors. There is a changing exhibition of contemporary art with featured artists ongoing
