“The Islet Cottage was a wonderful experience for my wife and I. It's wonderfully located next to so many great hiking trails in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. The cottage was incredibly relaxing and Lila went out of her way to recommend great hikes and make sure we always had everything we needed. This was our 1st time staying in a cabin off the grid and we weren't entirely sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. The outdoor shower was beautiful as well as the outdoor kitchen; I've never been so happy doing the dishes :) Being in the space shed some needed light on the amount of energy and water we typically use and take for granted but at the same time left us very content and wasn't the hassle we wondered it might be when booking. Also impressive to me was the incredible craftsmanship put into every inch of the cottage. Nothing felt even remotely unfinished like many cabins/cottages do and the extra finishing touches gave it a very comforting feel we didn't necessarily expect. Thanks Lila & Michael for the wonderful stay!”
This rugged beautiful cottage of 160 acres is situated on a clifftop above the tree canopy amongst the iron-rich red soil found on the Sibley Peninsula. Stunning views await you as you sit on the covered porch looking out onto Black Bay of Lake Superior in the distance. Surrounded by nature, relax to the sounds of birds and the breezes in the trees. You will comfortably sleep in your private living-room loft bedroom after your day adventures and share other common areas (shown as in the pics).
“Meiru and Paul's place is a gorgeous cabin set on a cliff on 2 sides. The resulting view is spectacular. The deck is at the level of tree tops... which meant very few bugs and an incredible view of lake Superior and some of the humps of the Sleeping Giant. There is even a higher deck off the living room loft that is unbelievable. The inside is incredibly beautiful too, with handmade wood carvings adorning the place. (previous owner was an artist) We so enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, overlooking the forest, and bathing/sweating in the wood-fired sauna. It was an incredible stay. Paul's hospitality was great. He showed us how the water and electrical systems worked, invited us to the outdoor kitchen and pool, chatted with us just when we wanted company and stayed away when we didn't, checked in on things and was accessible as needed. Hint - although we would have enjoyed sharing the cabin with others, it was *really* relaxing to have the place to ourselves. You may want to consider renting both lofts in order to ensure your privacy.”
Family home 15 minutes east of Thunder Bay. Corefloor with no stairs, not totally barrier free but great for mobility issues. You will have a queen size bed, access to the kitchen, dining and living room. We have an outdoor sauna, so if you don't mind hauling wood, yours to use. We have a very friendly cat and teenager in our home. You’ll need a vehicle, there is no public transportation here. We prefer three night stay or less but long term available. Ask about dinner options ($)
“We were passing by the area of Thunder Bay for one night and our stay at Margaret's was perfect for us. Margaret is a great host: very attentionate and very welcoming. She's eager to know more about you and really cares about who you are and what you did. The room is really comfy and you have your own bathroom. Her cat is adorable and loving!”
