Really cool place with panoramatic (best) view in Ostrava. Short hike. If you go there in the winter, you will see small steam pipes coming out from the hill. That is because the hill burns deep inside (coal) so it looks like a miniature vulcano. But it is safe to go there.

Heap hill after mining activity in Ostrava. It consists of millions of tons of extracted mining waste from the former Ostrava cole mines. Today covered by trees and very popular viewing spot from which you can see Ostrava as on your palm. It is actually the highest peak of Ostrava. You can easily get there by trolleybus getting off on Na Najmanske station and taking 15 minutes walk along the same called street.

Ema slag heap was gradually formed by piling up mine debris. It is interesting for outstanding panoramas of the city.

If you are interested in coal minimg history, this is the must see and feel point. Ostrava conical heap (a man - made hill) in Silesian Ostrava on the right bank of the Ostravice River in the Moravian - Silesian Region. Its peak was demonstrably at a height of 325 m above sea level and was probably also the highest point of Ostrava. Due to burning, settling and mining activities, the height of the Ema Heap decreased, its height is reported to be 312 to 315 m above sea level. Halda is a popular tourist destination, overgrown with forests and offers views of Ostrava and surrounding towns and villages, the Beskydy Mountains, the Low Jeseník, the Moravian Gate and Poland. Its origins probably date back to before 1920. The heap is still working, so white clouds of gas, mainly sulfur dioxide, emanate from it. Its surface is constantly heated by internal processes - inside the burning heap the temperature reaches up to 1500 ° C. At this temperature, among other things, rare minerals are formed - porcelainites and jaspers.
