South Head

Why locals recommend it

At the tip of South Head in Watsons Bay—at the mouth of Sydney Harbour—there’s an empty Australian colonial-style building built in the 1800s, and I like to lean against the building’s fence, on the north side, for a morning meditation. It’s in one of the most stunning locations overlooking harbour views. Alternatively, you can walk about 100 metres to the distinctive red-and-white striped Hornby Lighthouse perched on the cliff and greet the morning there, at its base. Both are great meditation locations when there are southerly winds, as they’re sheltered.

The South Tip/ entry to the Harbour. Great trails, great views back into Sydney and out to sea. Walk around- follow the trails or just stop off for fish and chips at Doyle- it's a great way to spend a few hours.

Hike up the easy trail to Hornby Lighthouse for beautiful views across the Sydney harbour and over to North Head. Carry on down the coastal trail to Macquarie Lighthouse and the South Head for great cliff top views.
