This is a medieval castle with an impressive barbican gate. You can pay to enter the site and museum, which includes an archeological history of Sussex. The view from the top of the keep is quite spectacular.

Lewes as a town is a little like a Museum itself. Sharifin's family help set up the Quaker School, now Waterstones. The Castle is one of many places to visit there.

A proper old English castle with great views of the surrounding area and wonderful twisty little lanes and quirky houses near by.

If you like history, visiting Lewes Castle is a few minutes walk away. It has an adjoining museum included in the castle entrance fee which has a mini-cinema telling the story of Lewes from prehistoric to Victorian times.

Lewes Castle was begun soon after the Battle of Hastings in 1066, by the Norman William de Warenne, a close friend of Williamthe Conqueror. The impressive Barbican Gate was added in the 14th Century. Climb the steep zig zag steps to the Keep to get stunning panoramic views of the Sussex countryside all the way from the Downs to the coast. Fire a crossbow, build an arrowslit, dress up as a lady, peasant or knight, and watch the story of Lewes in the mini cinema.
