KAYAKING. Put in at Thousand Springs Resort near Hagerman (pay the parking fee), and kayak directly across the river, then circle the historic island clockwise. You'll kayak upstream when you hit the crystal clear spring waters, get to the power plant and bridge area, and then get shot back out downstream to the river and see the striking transition where the spring waters and the Snake river don't easily mix. Then back across the river to Thousand Springs Resort. It's like kayaking up and over a little hill in a way. Strange! Get out near the bridge to have a little visit and self-guided tour of the historic island and its buildings. This is our #1 recommended kayaking outing. It's a loop (not just out-and-back), super scenic, great place to hang out midway...if you came to the area to kayak, do this one. Rent kayaks in Twin Falls through AWOL or River & Adventure Toys, or check with Thousand Springs Resort or Banbury Hot Springs to see if they have rentals available.

This is one of my favorite places in south central Idaho to while away the hours on a lazy afternoon. Perfect spot for picnicking and swimming. Weekdays tend to be less busy than weekends. Head down early to snag you a spot close for the river. Bring bug spray in the summer. There are a couple tables available but we usually picnic here the old fashioned way by spreading a blanket out on the ground. I recommend walking around the island if the gate at the bridge is open. Ritter Island operated as a dairy during the early part of the 20th century and there’s a self guided tour of the grounds available. Climbing up to the hay loft in the old barn is fun for kids and you usually can spot a barn owl or two up in the rafters. There is also a trail that winds it’s way to a scenic viewpoint of Minnie Miller Springs.

A beautiful park with a gushing waterfall you can stroll past on a short walk. Also a nice place to swim, the waters freezing cold blue comes straight through the lava rock from the mountains out the side of the canyon. A quick fun float or walk across the bridge and explore the old barn. Very shady, but only 1 picnic table. Our favorite place on a hot hot day.

Crystal and clear blue water to paddle, kayak or swim in, the parking lot sits just a few hundred yards from the base of a gorgeous waterfall, a two-mile loop walking trail and the park includes places to bbq/picnic for the day. This is a must-see you'll want to visit again and again!

Where part of 1000 Springs flows and water falls cascade. I love the old rock house and barn.
