Why locals recommend it
Though it’s been serving the city for over a decade, the Spice remains Sydney’s go-to for ultra-trad, ultra-spicy Thai food. It’s BYO, there’s no advance booking, and the food comes fast and furiously, but that’s all part of its charm. Thai food is ubiquitous in Sydney but this is the real deal. You don’t make friends with salad, unless you’re eating one here. Order their som tum—shredded green papaya with peanuts, tomato, and snake beans—for fiery refreshment between bites of kanom jeen nam ya—fermented rice noodles in fish curry sauce, topped with mustard greens.

Coffee Shop
“Commonly referenced as the best coffee, this hole in the wall is worth swinging by, particularly if you're walking to Central Station. Reservoir is a buzzy little street too. Lots of ad agencies, designers, start-ups and tech companies are located in the area so it's got a bit of a vibe.”

“Located on the ground floor of the building (near key collection). Coffee is great, can sit outside for breakfast or take food back to flat ~ delicious bacon and egg roles! Highly recommended”

“A real neighbourhood pub, with probably the best beer selection in the area (they even have a couple of hand pumps which isn't usual in Australia). A half decent burger and dumplings too. Great for afternoon beers, and we're often found here.”

“good coffee but also try their Fish Finger sandwich. Modestly named but featuring fried fish on brioche with aioli. Other great brunch offerings too.”
