Why locals recommend it
An absolute classic expression of New York City-style pizza. The old-school, rough-hewn, cash-only Village classic has wooden booths that are etched with decades of graffiti. Go with a party of four and you’ll definitely get a booth—as opposed to a table—and you can slide the little ones right in to make it easier to keep an eye on them. They serve only pies. That’s it. I love the plain because of the delish way the hot coal oven randomly chars the bottom, and all I need is sauce and cheese. My boys love the fresh Italian sausage.
Tips from locals
John's opened it's doors in 1929 and is known to be one of the four original pizzerias in NYC. The pizzas are still made the same way with the same ingredients - cheese going on first before adding sauce on top before going into a coal-fired oven. Go wild loading your pizza with all the ingredients…
