Tips from locals
Perfect for hikes of all abilities or simply drive up, park and open a chair! Castle Lake has it all! Tip: Trail to the left from Parking Lot guides you up to the southern side of the lake for stunning views and a secret spot at Heart Lake.
Castle Lake is crystal clear and is a 20 -30 min. drive from here. Beautiful for swimming, hiking, camping or a picnic! For those who want more of a hike, Heart Lake is above Castle Lake. Terrific star gazing and beautiful, scenic vistas on the drive back down.
Cool calm alpine lake to escape the hot Redding heat. Grab some inflatable paddleboards or kayaks and explore this beautiful lake.
Hiker's paradise. Start at Castle Lake and hike all the way up to Heart Lake which is about a one hour hike mostly uphill. Worth it because when you arrive the views are incredible.
Kayaking is another wonderful way to partake of the serenity and healing power of this alpine lake.

“Fun park with a cool vibe, many different walks of life here, just doing there thing in funky Mt Shasta. The real attraction is the spring headwaters of the upper Sacramento River, some considering it to be sacred healing waters (some just filling up their water bottles due to it being perfect spring water ;). Cool playground for kids, an excellent spot to take a picnic.”
