About this place
Originally built in 1939, The Royal Cinema is an historic Art Moderne movie house located in the heart of Little Italy. The 450-seat theatre was known as the Pylon when it first opened in 1939. Over time, it’s become one of Toronto’s most cherished landmarks.

Tips from locals
I refuse to go to any other theatre! Great programming, cool events & extra butter!
Small cinemas like this one are a dying breed. The Royal shows second run, foreign films and special presentations year-round. A neighbourhood gem.

Excellent independent cinema showing short runs of classic films, festivals, foreign, documentaries, and independent works. Great popcorn. They serve beer.
