Nice boardwalk that takes you closer to the water. You will be able to see some seals sometimes.

A good long beach with a nice boardwalk and cove at its northern end with a black sand beach and good tide pooling.

Kayaking, paddle boarding, or searching for abalone, you can do it all at MacKerricher State Beach. You will have to drive for 1.5 hours along beautiful state route 253 to arrive there. But, the coast offers a cool respite from the warm inland summer days. Rent a kayak nearby, or take your own. Be…

“Beautiful hike through the redwoods! You will pay for a day pass. Make sure you get a map. I took the trail to the waterfall. You can also ride your bike, but only about half way. There is an area with tables and bike racks so you can lock up and walk to the waterfall. After passing the waterfall, the trail loops back to where you started. The trail is very well maintained and relatively easy UNTIL you pass the waterfall. It is uphill climb after that, and I had to plant myself on a log a few times to rest. The trees and creeks are breathtakingly beautiful. It takes about 3 hours for about 5 miles, and not because I’m old, but because you want to stop and enjoy, and well yeah, rest a bit. I would also recommend bringing a fanny pack and a bottle of water. After my excursion, I drove to the beach that was close by.(you can also walk, but by that time I was tired and dirty.) The beach is under a bridge. Small, but pretty, with clean bathrooms and DRINKING fountains. You can tailor your day there buy planning walks on different trails, or just a quick visit. It just depends on how outdoorsy you are, or what other things you have planned. I loved it..Enjoy! ”
