If you want to go running, go 36 ave to the water until you find the red bridge. Cross the bridge and go downstairs, then you run in front of the water.
There is a tram that goes over the water and will take you to Manhattan from here, and vice versa.
This is a small gem in the city. Please ride the Roosevelt Island Tramway. You'll get a view of the city like no other.
