MATSUE CASTLE is one of symbols of Matsue which is a castle with a solid appearance based on black. It was designated as a National Treasure in 2015. The interior is made up of 5 floors above ground and 1 floor under ground, equipped with various defense equipments and warehouses. In addition, stairs which was made by paulownia can be removed when enemies invade and is also good for protection from fire or decay. As the castle tower gives you a 360-degree view of Matsue city, you can imagine what the former lord looked at 400 years ago. There is also a 3.7-kilometre horikawa river that surrounds Matsue Castle, so you can enjoy the scenery of the 400-year-old Edo period, such as Matsue Castle and samurai residences, from a boat. The cruise tour of Horikawa provides you to feel nature, history and slow time to enjoy Matsue city.
