It is about 3 hours drive from Playa but it is totally worth it. Maybe worth spending the night there, but if you leave around 7 am, getting there at 10 is just fine. There are some good local restaurants too.

Lake Bacalar is called the "Lake of the seven colors". On a sunny day it has 7 shades of turquoise. The town is very nice - old Spanish fort and museum to visit plus tours of the lake on boats. Cenote Azul is near by and fun to swim in.

Know as the lake of 7 colors, go on a sunny day and you'll quickly see why. Enjoy a lunch by the water or take a boat tour of the lagoon.
