  • Goat hike along the gold miners' trail
Big “Hello” from the “Girls” and I on Arkansas Mountain. We begin our goat hiking adventure at the ol’ Stage Stop cabin, our home. It’s a passion of mine to unfold the feeling of the 1859 gold rush from the journals and letters kept by these people; men, women and children. First, you’ll meet Polly, Mimi, Polka and Coco, your hiking companions. They are gentle girl goats, intuitively aware of our younger hikers. They trek with us as we retrace the trail of the '59ers. You'll see old mine portals, the Cloud City school house, Cornish stone walls built to shore up hillsides, root cellars, blacksmith shop, and more. I'll point out holes where miners dynamited in their search for gold and multiple pine tree trunks growing over old mining tunnels. The land reveals many secrets of our past when you know its contours. Then the celebrated goat race. Full disclosure upon arrival! Race entrance offering 25cents. There is time for photos and trail stops for breathing and storytelling. Our hike ends at the STAGE STOP, where we began. The STAGE STOP was named for the blacksmith shop located on our property, the Ol' Crane Ranch. A review: "The hike with Valerie and her goats was the highlight of our trip. . . [H]er stories offered everything to experience the real beauty and history of Colorado." If price is prohibitive, suggest another.

  • Red Rocks Sunrise/Morning Breakfast Hike
**Please be sure to choose the right time - sunrise or 9 am - when booking** We'll rendezvous for a beautiful, guided, educational hike on a public trail at Red Rocks Park - followed by breakfast in the world-famous amphitheater! After intros, we'll scamper down the trail and set off on a 1.4-mile adventure, with the smallest of elevation gains (~350 feet). Throughout the ~70-minute hike, we'll share stories of the area's history - from the development of the park, to stories of the artists who have played at the amphitheater, to the dinosaurs who used to roam here. Once the hike is over, we'll give you a delicious breakfast and show you how to get into the amphitheater, where you can eat, relax and explore on your own. Prepare to break a little sweat and make your friends jealous of your beautiful photos! FAQ - How hard is it? This hike is rated "easy". We take it slow, and rest often to ensure it's enjoyable for everyone. - No car? Uber/Lyft both run to/from the trail. There are no public transportation options. - Driving yourself? Free parking at the trailhead! - Is the trail stroller friendly? No. - Can I bring my dog? Yes, they just have to stay on a leash! - Can I use cannabis? No. If you show up high, you will not be allowed to participate nor given a refund.

  • A Luxurious Feast Atop Gregory Canyon
**Please note my contact info should Airbnb cancel and you still want to go. I'm happy to take you privately but you'll need to reach out to me. Ph: 303-564-4363 Enjoy a hard-earned chef-prepared feast at the top of a hidden Colorado Canyon. Gregory Canyon is a gem. This spectacular hike is a strenuous workout limited to the physically fit. It's every bit as beautiful as the other better-known area hikes but because its trailhead is tucked away, it is a private oasis, even on a crazy summer or fall weekend day. We'll meet at the Chautauqua Ranger's Station where I'll guide you further up the canyon to the trailhead. Immediately, we'll begin our journey with a steep ascent, traversing a small creek, climbing a series of large rock boulders forming a natural rock staircase straight up the canyon. After roughly a half mile climb we'll come to a ladder, bolted securely into rock to safely traverse the steepest portion of all. From this vantage point we can see back into the canyon with miles of views, and hike up a large grouping of boulders as our final climb and resting place. Best yet, I'm a professional chef so we'll celebrate at the top with a custom prepared well-deserved feast! PLANNED MENU: Curried chicken salad, tart apple, lime, & roast pecans over fresh arugula Mini chocolate pots de crème Medjool Date and Macadamia Balls *Vegetarian available Other things to note This hike is difficult and at altitude. It's a really fun challenge but can be tough, even for someone quite fit. 6.4 miles with 1490 feet altitude gain. Get ready to sweat!

  • Boulder Sunrise Hike
We will start this hike early in the morning to take advantage of the cool air and avoid crowds. Led only by moonlight, we will hike near Chatauqua Park, but to a far less popular trail. After traversing and some low level climbing, we will sit above Boulder to watch the sunrise and take in the gorgeous views of the foothills. My company offers adventures in Telluride, Denver, and Boulder, so If you'd like to save some money and support my business and it's mission to guide mental health outdoors, look up Cairn Outdoor Guides where you can easily book this activity or others like rock climbing, Nordic skiing, outdoor yoga, and trail running. We also offer a flex plan that makes getting outside even more affordable. You can also contact me to discuss other hiking options if this hike isn't quite what you're looking for or have other questions. I recommend you review the "Things to Know" section of my website at www.cairnguides.com if you have questions about what to bring. Other things to note If you have pet allergies or any considerable medical conditions let me know ahead of time as this is intended to be a safe and dog friendly experience. Note that Parking is $5/vehicle unless your car is registered in Boulder County
