Historically Gilleleje is an old fishing village and it was here that many Jews were transported to Sweden during World War II. Gilleleje Church was a waiting place for Jews until they could be transported. In 1943, 75 Jews were caught by the Gestapo on the church ceiling after a snitch had informed the Germans. Everywhere there are monuments of historical events. Every year there are various festivals in Gilleleje - "Hill" Festival, Harbour Festival, Jazz at the port and The Herring Day. Suitable for families. No parties. 6 beds (two bunk beds and one double) in the main house and a bunk bed and 1.5 man bed in the annex. Best suited for 6-8 people. Large terrace, gas grill, outdoor shower, trampoline. High chair, no crib. Cleaning is mandatory. Bring your own bed linen and towels. No smoking house.
