Castle Garden Cottage is a 16th century Thatched Cob Cottage tucked away in the grounds of our home, with stunning views of the river Avon Valley. Woodgreen is a beautiful village within the New Forest National Park with its friendly pub /superb restaurant and village shop. Castle Garden Cottage is the perfect secluded hideaway with its own garden and garden furniture, so you can sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful evening sunsets or just stroll in the woodland glades of the forest.
“I went to Karen's place for three nights with my golden retriever, Honey. Karen had left some tea bags, coffee, sugar and milk and a homemade walnut cake, which was so thoughtful. The cottage was just the right size for us and I always felt safe and secure there. Although it wasn’t cold in the cottage, I put the electric blanket on before I went to bed and I felt so snugly, just lovely after a day out walking with Honey. The village of Woodgreen is small, with lovely, friendly people. There’s a shop which sells local produce and most things you’d need and a pub which has a very good, not too expensive menu. Also I had some tasty fish and chips from a mobile van which parks up outside the shop late afternoon on a Saturday. Karen and Richard were very good hosts and I really enjoyed talking to both of them. I knew where they were if I needed them but they also let me have the peace and quiet I love so much when I stay in the New Forest. It was a lovely stay, thank you very much Karen and Richard!”
Beautifully renovated rooms for a self contained break in the New Forest with direct access on to the open forest. Great for dog walking or just a yomp to the pub. Perfectly situated for visits to the Cathedral cities of Salisbury and Winchester, quaint New Forest towns such as Lyndhurst and Lymington and historic sites such as Stonehenge. This is a working small holding with cows, chickens, Guinea fowl and horses. The paddocks lead to a wood and stream where you can relax in the shepherds hut.
“My wife and I + dog had a wonderful stay. Lovely property, well equipped, beautifully furnished and there were even some Christmas decorations which were a nice touch. Underfloor heating kept it nice and warm the whole time. Check-in was straightforward and Liz and her husband were on-hand to give recommendations, though mostly left us to it. Excellent walks from the front door (wellies were very much required when we went) or a short drive away.”
Our converted coach house offers a cosy corner in the busy village of Downton from which to visit the historic cathedral city of Salisbury and the open spaces of the New Forest. Parts of the property date back to 1475 with links to the Bishops of Winchester. There is plenty on offer in and around the village, with local shops, gardens, pubs, walks and bicycle rides along the River Avon. Bournemouth beaches are not far away. We welcome dogs but do have a pet charge of £20 for their stay.
“We booked to stay with Pennie for a long weekend in the New Forest, and were very lucky to take advantage of a late cancellation to do so. Had no idea how lucky we were though until now!! Pennie's cottage is a beautiful home, with such a large number of little touches that give a clue as to the type of person the host is. We arrived with Pennie coming out to meet us, who had provided breakfast for the whole weekend, along with all the tea, coffee and firewood we'd need. She even gave us some home-made cinnamon buns halfway through our stay! The pub next door does great food, and great service, and the location is perfect for those with or without cars to explore the New Forest and surrounding areas (can recommend an evening in Salisbury). Pennie also on hand with lots of expert local tips, but I don't see any reason why a night-in, with the patio garden or fireside sofa wouldn't be a good shout too. We' d love to come back to see the place in the summer, but our trip in British February was a raging success, and that's saying something!! P.S. As a tip: Pennie's quite right that Google Maps and her address don't mix. But the Wooden Spoon was a great way for us to Sat Nav our way accurately to the cottage!”
