"Take away your teeming cities, concrete alleys, dark retreats... Give me air, and sea, and sunshine... Sandy shores to crowded streets." Our grandfather wrote this poem about City Island where he built this cottage. Nestled just about and hour North-east from Manhattan sights like the MET, Grand Central Station, and Greenwich Village all easily accessible by public transportation or car. City Island has been compared to a metropolitan Nantucket with restaurants and unique shops.
“I loved staying in this artistic, happy, cozy, historic home, it felt so good it was if the walls held onto laughter in bygone days. You know spaces that just “feel good?” This one has it! I stayed in Nov and it was too cold to really dive into the history and explore life in City Island, I hope to return during warmer months. The home heats rapidly and kept me very warm after long, cold, days in the city. The hosts had an excellent guide for guests, their restaurant recommendations were excellent, I did eat seafood and it was fresh and perfectly prepared. Their transportation guide helped a lot. The bed in the master was so comfortable, I slept well! Other furniture was comfortable too. They had everything a traveler could need stocked in the kitchen and bathroom, they generously stocked food, snacks, Gatorade and even Greek yogurt! The kitchen has every appliance including a coffee maker and electric tea kettle. The design and layout of the home, along with original art done by the man who re-built the home for his family decades ago, was priceless to see. And the hosts were wonderful! They stayed up late to meet me and I love the history they shared with me. Free insider tickets to the Met were offered!!! They are thoughtful, warm, kind, generous, artistic, poetic - the whole family was/is. They were quick to respond but left me to my busyness during the stay. I love their dog Jane Eyre, she is a must see. The home, the family, the island - unique, authentic, and all of it made for a wonderful stay, I hope to return soon!”
I am renting my lovely one bedroom apartment that is located in a waterfront property with nice view over Long Island Sound. It is a great place to relax if you need to work in NYC, and still would like to feel on your own island! If you love the city, and do not want to forgo a nice outdoor life, my place cannot get any better for you, biking or hiking to NYC's largest park (Pelham Bay Park), fishing, boating, golf, horseback riding, jogging. For beach lovers, the Orchard Beach is also in fair walking distance.
“Wow this is by far the BEST Airbnb experience so far. I have stayed on Fire Island a lot, but this was a wonderful and convenient option. I have been in NYC for over 30 years and visited City Island, but never stayed over night. Noelva and Alex are spectacular hosts. The apartment was right out of a decor magazine with a small private beachfront Get off your butt and GO!”
I am renting my lovely one bedroom apartment that is located in a waterfront property with nice views over Long Island Sound and direct water access. The place is very conveniently located in City Island, a historic place famous for its seafood and sailing traditions. It is a very safe place, and everything is in walking distance, bars, coffee shops, grocery stores, art stores, banks, post office, and some of the best seafood restaurants of NYC within 5 minutes walk. It is a great place to relax if you need to work in NYC, and still would like to feel on your own island! For commuting to NYC, you need to take B X29 bus to Pelham Bay Park subway station, and then take the 6 line Express to Manhattan. It will take you about 45 minutes to 1 hour to get to midtown. There is also an express bus from City Island to Manhattan, as an alternative for commuting. There is street parking on the island, and you can park your bicycle on the property. “Noelva and her husband have created a wonderful environment on the water. There is outdoor seating and a pergola. The apartment itself has been updated and is clean and comfortable. The day I arrived, a repair had just been made to the bathroom sink, but it wasn't that big of a deal. I was sorry I had to leave. I liked it there. ”
