“My trip to NV ECO farm came out of a need to get away from the city and explore a bit of nature in Goa besides the beachside. Having seen a couple of other spice farms, this was a different experience or dare I say more authentic. Authentic because this was a huge farm ( almost 50 acres) where agriculture and related activities are the mainstay of the farm. As a visitor I was an onlooker experiencing all this in a rural context. The farm is really in the interiors and constant guidance from the owners helped me locate it easily. The owners have a lovely farmhouse hidden within the farm and one can often bump into them on the trails while they are busy overseeing the activities. It is amazing to hear the stories behind this ancestral farm and how it has developed over time. The staff comprise locals who are extremely down to earth and do go out of the way to please. The accommodation was a beautiful cottage quite secluded yet close to the restaurant which was accessed by a rope bridge over the stream. Well appointed, and the balcony was my hangout place looking into the wild. Mind you, at night it is just you and nature. The farm has a restaurant where the local women prepare the local cuisine which was rice, fish and chicken dishes, and different vegetable preparations. The taste is distinctly earthy and feels very different from the regular fare in restaurants and shacks of Goa. There are some adventure sport activities but they were for an extra charge. I was given a tour of the extensive farm which had - spice plantation, coconut grove, astral garden, Cashew plantation, Feni distillation, traditional farming and irrigation systems, honey bee rearing, butterfly park. The fresh water stream flowing through the farm is a really nice place to cool off. For someone like me who loves places close to nature, this was the perfect location. And being on your own in such a large farm without being hoarded by guides and pesky staff is an experience becoming rare in most tourist destinations. Even the cellphone did not bother disturbing me (thanks to the patchy network). I would certainly recommend this for every visitor who wants to experience what true rural Goa, its flora and fauna, its cuisine and people are.”
