“We stayed half of our time on Oahu at Gina's place and half in a resort on the North Shore. While the resort was 'nicer' I think I preferred the location of Gina's place more. Far less 'touristy' than other parts of the island for sure. There are some great beaches that are really close by that my kids really enjoyed. Gina was great and provided great directions to her place and even some suggestions for things to do that were pretty close by. She has surf boards, snorkeling gear, a few sand toys, and body boards in the flat which was definitely appreciated. We used those several times and it was really nice to not have to worry about renting/buying/bringing those items. She has everything you need in the flat to cook. One of the burners on the stove doesn't work, but there are three others and that didn't really negatively affect us. We did cook a few meals which was nice because it saved us money. Just be aware that it heats the place up if you're cooking a lot. Things to be aware of. Her flat is on the 3rd floor and there's no elevator. That wasn't a big deal for us, but might be for some. There's no AC and it can get pretty toasty. We left the windows on all the time and she has several fans, but it can still get really hot especially if you're not used to humidity. There was a decent cross-breeze most nights and it actually wasn't as bad as we were expecting. After we booked her place and were telling people we were staying in Makaha, we had a lot of people tell us that's where a lot of native Hawaiin's live and they don't like tourists. My wife wanted to cancel our reservation after hearing that from several different people. The negative attitude towards tourists may be true, I can't really say, but I can say the place Gina's flat is located in is super safe. They have security at the entrance 24/7 and never once did I feel unsafe. We ate out a few times in Makaha, went to the local beaches, pool, etc. and we never felt unwelcome or anything. Pretty much everyone we ran into was very nice and welcoming. Like I said earlier, I actually preferred Makaha to the north shore. It's a pretty decent drive from Honolulu/Waikiki. If you're going to be doing a lot of activities there just be prepared for that. It took us between an hour and an hour and a half most days to get to activities in and around that area. Not too bad, but something to be aware of for planning. She has a neighbor that smokes quite a bit. And with not having AC we didn't really feel like we could close the windows otherwise we'd roast. That may not be a big deal for most people, but I have a daughter with pretty bad asthma, so that was frustrating. Not the host's fault, but I feel worth mentioning. Overall, Gina's place is clean and she was a great host. If I didn't mind the smoking neighbor I would definitely stay there again.”
Just steps from one of the nicest beaches on the Hawaiian islands, this well appointed, beachfront condo has everything you need for a relaxing vacation away from it all!!
“The pictures do not do this place justice. The beach is absolutely gorgeous. We loved hearing the waves and watching the sunset. The beach is right outside the door and was never crowded. The condo was clean, comfortable, and quiet and came with more than you need. We would return again in a heartbeat.”
Aloha, This is a B&B. This is my extra room in a two bedroom condo in Waialua ( North Shore but without all the traffic!! ) . Very private because I don't spend the night there! I will stop by every morning to see if there’s anything you need and jump in the ocean. I do live there. You can see the ocean from the living room and it's steps to a fabulous beach. I have no animals (for those allergic to animal hair) This is a 30 day vacation rental. If you need more or less please contact me.
“Perfect for staying in north shore. Close to town with everything you might need - groceries, great restaurants, beaches. If you want to go out in Honolulu or Waikiki, it is a long drive so keep that in mind. Otherwise great location. Pam was so responsive and helpful with suggestions everyday of what we could do. She also was very communicative with when she’d be at the apartment. She’s done up the place so cute as well. Would stay here again!”
