THE BOLTHOLE on Pagham Beach is a world away on the peaceful Pagham Harbour RSPB nature reserve. Based around a Victorian railway carriage, THE BOLTHOLE has been lovingly renovated to include all creature comforts and super fast wi-fi! The original railway carriages remain and you will sleep 'first class' under their bowed ceilings! In addition a modern kitchen provides all you need to prepare your catch of the day and a open plan lounge allows space to kick back and relax.
“If you want a cosy, restful place to get away from it all for a few days then the Bolthole at Pagham is the place for you. We went away as two families and enjoyed two nights and days of beautiful views over the shifting shingle sands and stretching blue sea. The Bolthole consists of two renovated railway carriages (with bedrooms and bathrooms) running perpendicular to the sea, with a kitchen and lounge living space in between and a long conservatory stretching across the front of the building looking out onto the sea. Beds were very comfy with lovely bed linen, showers were hot and hot water plentiful. It was a very peaceful environment and although the neighbours were friendly saying hello when they saw us, we felt at times like we were the only ones along the stretch of coast! The bread, eggs, coffee machine, fire pit and marshmallows for toasting were much appreciated. We had an excellent meal at The Lion pub in Pagham and we would have tried other places had we had more time. There is a Co-op about 7 mins walk away and a cafe which looked nice too. I was worried the house might be cold (we arrived on a wet night in November) but with the heating on it was extremely cosy and we snuggled down to watch a film on Netflix. We enjoyed mooching around the beach, skimming stones, walking around the lagoon area and the boys enjoyed bouncing on the trampoline and sitting round the firepit in the dark. There were things to do further afield but we were happy just enjoying the house, it's lovely decor and the natural world on our doorstep.”
The annexe is a pebble stone throw to the sea and a 3min walk to pub food at The Lifeboat Inn or a 15min walk to The Seal in the village. It is best to book a table at weekends. We provide a hospitality tray with tea, coffee, biscuits and pastries for breakfast. There will be milk in the fridge. There is a Cafe in the village called the Riviera that do excellent cooked breakfasts. Chichester centre with many good restaurants, a lovely theatre, cathedral and Goodwood, are a 20min drive away.
“Gilly’s Annexe is a real delight! The most beautiful place I’ve stayed in for a while. Really high quality accommodation with super friendly hosting. Tips on where to go and what to do, but this place is perfect if you just feel like relaxing too. Close to the beach and shops and restaurants. Definitely recommend.”
