Unique activities hosted by local experts vetted for quality

  • Playtime with rare fainting goats
Located in Benton, Pennsylvania Guests arrive at the main barn (and are happily greeted by our giant white fluffy livestock dog Runa). After a brief orientation for the bathroom (outhouse), sign a release and answer initial questions, the guests will be introduced to the herd in their pen or pasture. The barn pen is used during bad weather, the pasture during warm dry weather. Guests cannot enter the pen for health and safety reasons, but can pet adults and hold as many babies as desired. In the pasture, guests may enter the pasture to pet goats and hold babies. Carrie will give the breed history, as well as talk about shows, production goats, and heritage preservation, the 3 branches of Fainting Goat breeding. Finally, Carrie will talk about Barakah Farm's unique approach to goat care, practiced on only a handful of Fainting Goat farms and described in her book The Energetic Goat. When there are babies, goat cuddling is encouraged! Finally, Carrie will answer any last questions at the goat pen. We hope you leave with a greater appreciation of rare breed preservation, the role of goats in a healthy farm, and the unique and loving personalities of these conscious beings. Don't see your preferred time? Ask us! No pets - advance notice of service animals please. By entering the farm, under Pennsylvania State Law you assume all the risk of equine activity.

  • Truly Authentic Lancaster Experience
We will take a delightful stroll through the beautiful streets of downtown Lancaster. You will discover a city of today, steeped in the history and traditions of over 250 years of America's colorful and exciting past. We will then visit the oldest settlement in Lancaster County, followed by a trip to one of our 29 iconic covered bridges for a picture, a drive-by of the farm where the movie "Witness" was filmed, and a visit to an Amish creamery where you'll get to interact with their animals and choose from more than a dozen homemade ice cream varieties (included in the cost). We will wrap up with a tour of a Amish farm where you can see their horses and homemade bird houses. Other things to note: *If you do not see a date on the calendar you want please email me! Market Days are Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday 6AM to 2PM. And finally - no experience is ever exactly the same and my goal is to make every one extremely unique; I will customize each one based on the collective interest of the group! Also effective post-Covid and moving forward the driving portion of the tour will be done with me narrating via Blue Tooth in the comfort of your own vehicles as we go from stop to stop....and please note that this will be the year I will be doing this experience so there is very limited availability!

  • Lancaster history and craft beer walk
We'll kick it off at the hub of Lancaster, our colonial square, and begin to explore the concentration of historical sites spanning three centuries. Content rich and carefully researched, you will get an insider's pass to the past, with stories and context that bring the city alive and guarantees an experience unavailable anywhere else. You will learn the out-sized roll our small city played in the birth and growth of America as you stroll through charming streets and alleys and begin to understand the building blocks that take us to the present day. Sound great? Well there is still much more. Along the way, we will whet our whistle at some of Lancaster's finest craft beer establishments - and the history isn't over. You will learn how much of our colorful past is tied to beer. From 19th century German influence to amazing tales of prohibition ingenuity, the beer flowing through the taps comes from the present day but reaches back across the last two centuries - and it's delicious! Other things to note This is a couple friendly, year-round experience. We can comfortably adapt to any weather conditions or personal preferences. If you don't see a time that works for you, please contact me directly.

  • Artisan Sourdough Bread Workshop
After arrival and introductions, we'll start the process by showing you how to properly slash your dough and get it into the oven. this will allow our first loaves to bake and cool in time for sampling, because who wants to attend a sourdough class and not get to eat any of it? :) Next, we'll begin the process of mixing ingredients, going over the recipe and process. during the periods when the dough will be resting ill conduct a demonstration for a fun live cultured beverage, you can make at home or simply enjoy it during the baking class. Since there is so much time involved in producing a loaf, I'll be moving along with the steps as quickly as we can and spending most of the time between processes answering questions and explaining the why behind the techniques. classes typically last between 3-4 hours so light refreshments will be served throughout the class. You will leave class with, starter, instruction printout, a loaf of bread to bake the next and a bread proofing basket. Other things to note Let me know if you have any food allergies.

  • Playtime With Rare & Rescued Horses
Located in Benton, Pennsylvania. Meet and interact with the herd for peaceful bonding time, brushing, and lessons in herd communication and dynamics at Barakah Heritage Farm. Our mixed herd of Jasmine the donkey, the rescue horses, the rare black Malabar Jilfan Arabians, and Malenna pony will welcome you into their space to meet them, teach you how to communicate with them, and share mutual grooming and perhaps play. You will interact with horses as conscious beings, learning their body language and energy, their personalities, and what they seek from humans. We begin with a release form, orientation, and safety briefing. Then we enter the herd's area, either in the pasture or in the barn during rainy weather. Guests are invited to pull up a chair or sit in the grass and simply soak up the peace of sharing space with these lovely beings. Carrie will teach you about body language, intention and energy. The herd will choose how to interact with the guests. The experience ends with a final discussion and any last questions. Guests will leave with an understanding of the unique and vibrant individual personalities of these conscious beings, and how horses can co-exist with free will alongside their human partners. Note: there is no riding in this experience. No pets. Please give advance notice of service animals. Under PA State Law you assume all the risk of equine activity
