  • Dusk Walking Tour of Fowey, Cornwall
A walk around Fowey to explore the history, literary connections and hidden gems of this lovely Cornish town. All on made-up surfaces, so only general sturdy footwear and clothing required. Some moderate uphill sections involved, at a leisurely pace! We will cover the maritime and railway history; pilgrims and churches, history, defence and growth of the settlement; former dwellings and settings inspiring writers with local connections. Most of the time is spent with views of the busy estuary. Offered as an evening tour, to take advantage of the beauty of the town and countryside as darkness falls. Work up an appetite for dinner with sunset, moonrise, stargazing and listening to owls - to name just a few of the dusk delights! Other things to note This walk is within the town on made-up surfaces and includes moderate hills (both up and down) but kept to a minimum. Fowey has tiny streets, so I will advise on these and keep you safe near cars.

  • Climb the Gribbin Head daymark tower
We will walk a beautiful 3.5-mile circuit including part of the South West Coast Path, England's longest National Trail. Our route will gently rise over clifftops and pass rocky coves, sandy beaches and the exquisite Polridmouth Cove, the inspiration for Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca's cove. There's a wealth of wildlife to spot, literary connections to make and an optional climb up the "daymark" tower which is visible for miles. This is open to the public on summer Sundays and manned by volunteers, so subject to availability. Other things to note This is a moderately strenuous 3.5 mile walk on country footpaths and tracks. There is one climb and descent in each direction of approximately 75m. if you make the optional climb up inside the tower you will need to be comfortable with confined spaces and heights

  • Fowey Estuary "The Hall Walk" - guided
A circular classic walk of 4 miles, including two ferries and spectacular views of the Fowey estuary. We leave as foot passengers on the Bodinnick vehicle ferry. There are a couple of climbs/descents but much of the walk is roughly level, contouring above the river and Pont Pill. There is an option to visit the Church where Daphne du Maurier was married. We return on the Polruan foot ferry. CEREAL BAR provided, included in experience. Plenty of opportunities for cream teas or other refreshments on our return to Fowey (not included in experience price). FERRY FARES INCLUDED IN TICKET PRICE. Other things to note Be prepared for all weathers and to walk at the pace of the slowest in the group. Plenty of time is allowed for photo stops, water, etc so that all can enjoy the walk.

  • Guided Hike on SWest Coast Path, Fowey
We will walk a beautiful 6-mile section of this, England's longest National Trail, gently rising over clifftops and passing rocky coves, sandy beaches and the exquisite little harbour of Polkerris. There's a wealth of wildlife to spot, literary connections to make, a castle and lots more. We start with a short bus trip (NB on Bank Holidays a cross country walking route to Polkerris will be substituted) then begin our hike at Polmear where there are soon expansive views over St Austell Bay to our south and west. Rounding the tip of Gribben Head, marked by a "daymark" tower which is visible for miles (CEREAL BAR provided here, included in experience), we get our first sighting of our destination - the natural estuary harbour of Fowey. The path clings closely to the edge of low cliffs and drops to cross several small streams, bringing us to St Catherine's Point and castle, before we make our way through part of the pretty town and an optional teashop stop for lunch or a cream tea (not included in Experience price). Fairly easy walking means you arrive into the stunning harbour town of Fowey, ready to enjoy the picturesque boating scene and the rest of your day. Other things to note You will be walking in a fairly remote area on footpaths with a variety of terrain and weather. Please read the "what to bring" section carefully. Toilets only in Polkerris (1 hour out) and Fowey.
