Birken Cottage - Holidays in the Herbsthausen sawmill

Our three one-room apartments — Ahorn, Linde, and Birke — combine the historic charm of Herbsthausen with contemporary design. Each apartment is completely unique and has been modernized by us. They offer space for two to three people each. The apartments are part of “Herbsthausen”, an cultural project in the town of Gartow. We are renovating a historic sawmill and transforming it into a future-oriented place for art, industrial heritage, living, working, international exchange, and relaxation.

In the middle of the forest, on a clearing, 3 km from the beautiful town of Gartow, lies our special retreat. If you are looking for peace and quiet in nature and value simplicity and goodness, this is the place. The old half-timbered building, a former stable, was renovated with high quality and sustainably with natural materials. Clay plaster on the walls and the wood-burning stove guarantee an excellent indoor climate, and the walk to the wood-fired sauna promises absolute relaxation!

Die Einliegerwohnung befindet sich auf der kultur.farm – einem Vierseitenhof in Groß Pankow und ist ca. 800m vom angeschlossenen Bahnhof entfernt. Die Wohnung verfügt über eine geräumige Küche, inkl. kleiner Couch und Esstisch, sowie ein Schlafzimmer und ein größeres Bad. Die kultur.farm verfügt weiterhin über zwei große Gemeinschaftsräume, eine Sommerküche (inkl. Kicker), eine Sauna und eine Storchenfamilie. Es gibt immer was zu erleben, aber es gibt vor allem genug Platz für Ruhe.

If you want to sit by the fireplace in winter or swim in the Elde 100 meters away in summer, you will feel comfortable here.

This peaceful accommodation is a great place to relax. In the heart of Rühstadt, you can lie in the hammock and watch storks, cook in the well-equipped kitchen or grill on the terrace. Nights by the campfire, romantic walks along the Elbe - summer can be enjoyed in a very special way here. But autumn and winter also have their special charm here on the Elbe. After a long walk, you can relax in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea.

Unfortunately, our farm is not suitable for excessive parties. Our house was built around 1850. The house & barn of the listed 3-sided courtyard are built in oak half-timbering. There are 10 wedding linden trees around the house. In November, when the lime trees are pruned, the house can be seen in all its splendor. From May onwards, it slowly disappears behind shady foliage, and so remains wonderfully cool throughout the summer...

Eggs from happy chickens are available here in our village from the "neighbours". Numerous festivals, cultural events and exhibitions in the area ensure that your stay with us is not boring. Accommodation of the star park. Our 1-room apartment is located in a converted barn on our Mannaz project farm. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, a 140x200 bed, a dining area for two people and a private lovingly designed bathroom. Offers such as horse-based therapy, drum journey, ceremonies, woodwork (...), sauna use and food can be booked at an additional cost. Live your change 🦋
