I’m selfishly hesitant to give this little jewel a great review as I want to make sure it’s available for ME when i make my annual trek for NIH! This is a quiet little hideaway within walking distance to the J2 Metro bus (though I also walked to/from NIH most days). I especially appreciate that Harris Teeter is only a block away (no need to depend on pricey restaurant food). I’ve always felt very touristy on my Bethesda stays but, in staying at Claire’s I felt a great deal autonomous. For those riding Metro from Reagan, simply take the Shady Grove line to Medical Center. You can either walk to Claire’s (about 1/2 mile) or J2 bus. Clean, comfy accommodations, full kitchen if you want to cook. A great find.

Claire’s place is great, exactly as it was presented. Her communication was stellar and she was extremely kind throughout the process. I’d definitely recommend a stay here if you’re in Bethesda!

Claire's place is sparkling clean and uncluttered, and super close to NIH! She was very available for anything that was needed, including loaning a blender for my breakfast smoothie. I also lost a ring there and they found it, and they kindly and quickly made it available for me to pick up same day! This place is very close to grocery store so you could easily grab snack or breakfast staples on your way in. OH - and the bed and bedding were very comfortable and cozy -- much appreciated!

I am a repeat long-term visitor to this great place. I just walk in and everything is perfect. I settle right in knowing that I will want for nothing, I will sleep like a baby, I can walk to a grocery store in 5 minutes, I have a safe place to park, and I can RELAX. Claire is a thoughtful host and I truly love this "home away from home." I will be back soon.

Kristen's place is the perfect location for visiting the NIH! Nice private suite that was very clean and comfortable. We slept very well in the nice King bed and enjoyed a little down-time watching the large screen TV in the comfortable living area. Kristin was great to communicate with and will definitely stay again for our next trip to the NIH!

The downstairs apartment is very clean and well maintained. Host is very accommodating and provides an ample amount of information regarding the surrounding area and events. Amenities were exactly what we expected. Would recommend this place to other travelers!

Great location! Was only there 2 days but would stay again if needed.

Clean and comfortable space. Good hot water in shower, and very comfortable bed. Kristin was top notch with speedy communication, check-in was seamless. Fifteen - Twenty minute walk from Medical Ctr Metro (Red Line). If you already have a pass for NIH you can enter at any of the closer gates using that magnetic pass. If not, you will need go thru main visitor entrance. No big deal, but the same distance walk back to the to Med Ctr Metro stop. Walk to downtown Bethesda about 30-35 minutes, though you can expedite that with catching the bus or an Uber (easy). All good, happy to recommend this AbnB to others

Wonderful experience and very convenient location!

Great location. Relaxing and comfy

I really enjoyed my stay. First, the room was so spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Second, the location was perfect. It is only a short walk to the metro and all the great restaurants and shops in Bethesda. It is also not far from downtown DC. The unit had so many amenities, a kitchen with many appliances, a very clean bathroom with very warm water, and a nice living space. I definitely recommend this room.

We loved our stay here. It’s a 15 minute walk from anything you could possibly need — groceries, metro, shops, etc — and is perfectly set up to accommodate both long- and short-term stays. There are two private bedrooms separated by several doors to provide plenty of privacy, with a common kitchen area. Annelise is such a nice and generous host— we wanted for nothing. She gave us house-roasted coffee and candies and went above and beyond to be super communicative and helpful. Would 100% stay again!

The apartment was very clean, spacious, comfortable and located very close to many restaurants. Only one minor drawback for me was that the hot water in the shower was pretty lukewarm. Other than that, I would highly recommend this place!

My stay was very comfortable. The fireplace was a real delight for me. And the bed was so cozy and I had great sleep. Trish provided breakfast food in the refrigerator which made my first morning stressless., as I had no car. My stay was excellent.

Trish’s apartment is very roomy, with a large bedroom and closet ( with a very comfortable king sized bed), bathroom, comfy living room with amazing fireplace and TV, dining area, small kitchen and laundry room. The kitchen is well stocked and Trish even left breakfast for a few nights. It has every kitchen appliance you could ever need, too. Everything was sparkling clean, and no detail was forgotten. I am planning to stay again with my husband when visiting our daughter who lives in the area.

Mark was a great host - communicative and accommodating. The place was clean and stylish, and I won’t hesitate returning when I’m in the area.

Mark’s place is exactly as described in the listing: immaculate, new and in a beautiful residential area of Bethesda within walking distance of shops, restaurants, Harris-Teeter grocery store and metro stations. Mark is an amazing host and greatly deserves his Superhost status! He checked me in, showed me the place and gave me some great local tips. The guest parks in the driveway which is a big plus. Mark is an artist and it really shows in details large and small. So many thoughtful details. I would give Mark and his place ten stars if I could! Second stay and equally delightful!

Marks place was great! It is so nicely appointed and you can tell a lot of thought went into its design. The apartment was very clean and Mark even left us water and fruit, which was greatly appreciated. Also appreciated was the kitchen equipped with a keurig and a French press. We are coffee people in the morning and to have some already there made our stay that much more enjoyable. The apartment is within walking distance to restaurants, etc and we took advantage of walking here and there in safe neighborhoods. Lastly, Mark is very responsive and it willing to help with anything!

I booked Mark's Airbnb for my brother, who likes comfort, convenience, privacy, and service. He was thrilled. He loved the kitchen, the ability to open the window for fresh air, the driveway, the wifi and charging station for his phone, the helpful instructions upon checking in.

Could not recommend this more highly! Mark is a very gracious host; the place is gorgeous; the location is perfect. A real treat!

Was an absolute delightful stay. I would recommend Judith’s cottage to anyone.

Judith and the Middleton Cottage were perfect! I rented this for my parents to stay during their visit over Thanksgiving, and it was wonderful. My parents were arriving late, so Judy offered to walk me through everything before they arrived. She has clear instructions and things labeled, and has thought of several little touches to include (tea, coffee, some breakfast bars). My parents had a great stay, with no complaints at all!

Very steep driveway & back of the house entrance with stairs which were wide, but hard to access overall. For a less high maintenance person than me which means - You eat out, don’t wear dressy clothing You’re out sight seeing etc Coming and going Bed was a dream. As was bedding. Overall 5 stars. Such a high end Airbnb.

My second time at Jean's place and certainly not my last. Very nice basement apartment.

A lovely private room with newly renovated bathroom. Quiet place that was extremely close to ride on buses and metro. Very convenient and quite fast WIFI provided. Clean modern furnishings with a lovely library to use. Would definitely use again if in DC area again!

This was a wonderful, little basement apartment. I believe it was remodeled recently. Certainly felt fresh and new. No kitchen, but there is a fridge and microwave. I’d definitely stay here again.

Alain is a very patience and kind host that give great guidiance and reply quickly with any situations. The room is fabulous and clean and is on the ground floor that seperate from other rooms. It is a great place for people who prefer a quite place. The transportation is Okay that takes 18 mins walk to the metro station.

Alain and Alex were very hospitable. Everything was clean and their kids were sweet. I felt very safe in the house and neighborhood as a female traveling alone. I would highly recommend and I would stay again.

I stayed a couple nights for a business trip and everything was just as described, very clean space and friendly host. The semi-private basement area was nice to relax in after a long work day with a comfy couch and a huge tv to watch movies.

This apartment was very clean and cozy. The host met me upon arrival and explained all of the kitchen appliances and details. It was super convenient to NIH and downtown Bethesda.

Very clean and cute space. It was he most comfortable bed I slept in away from home - ever! And Marie was very kind and welcoming. She baked some cookies that day and she offered us a plate. The only thing is that its not very sound proof, but Marie had guests that night so I think the noise level from upstairs was out of the ordinary.

A good place to stay long term!

I stayed at Marie's place two weeks while working at the NIH. The location was perfect and the apartment was great. Nice furniture, a good atmosphere and even a great collection of interesting books, ranging from USA travel books to Dante's Divine Comedy. Marie was a very considerate host. Highly recommended and would be my first choice if I'm ever to visit the NIH again.

I stayed for 2 back to back stays here and it was fantastic. It was a very clean and nicely decorated basement apartment. It was easily within walking distance of the NIH and a cute downtown area. I would highly recommend!

Joe & Diana created a positive venue for the airbnb travel seeker. More specifically, I sought out a place within walking distance near a Metro. Joe & Diana's place is less than one mile (walking distance) to the Metro. Joe & Diana are not only pleasant, but also creative and energetic individuals. At the time of my stay, they scheduled a Super Bowl party, which they included me, among their guests. Sometime soon, I hope to return to Joe & Diana's place. Joe & Diana were terrific hosts!

Annelise’s place is very stylish and also very cozy. It’s close to many restaurants and the neighborhood is very lovely and quiet. We shared the common space and bathroom with another guest staying in the other room of the basement apartment, but we don’t see him often, so it’s pretty private. The kitchen amenities are very helpful. We didn’t want to go out to have dinner so we quickly made some food and we had everything we needed for a quick meal.

20 min easy walk from Bethesda metro (or 10 min if you take the free "circulator bus" to the fire station). Space is a very well done basement area with two airbnb rooms sharing a bathroom, kitchen and dining area. Not shared with family, so it is very private. Host is great, cleanliness is great, bed is great, and lots of little extras. Very good value overall.

Bruno’s apartment is a perfect location, close to the Metro in North Bethesda. The apartment was spotless & all the amenities I needed.

Wonderful apartment, at a great price. Certainly lived up to the description. Really comfortable beds, very nice kitchen and bathroom, comfortable living room. Bruno was welcoming, helpful and very responsive. Having indoor parking steps from the door was a real plus, but also just a 5-minute walk to the DC Metro so you didn't need to use a car to get downtown and back easily. Overall, a terrific value. We'd stay again!

Shoutout to Bruno for being extremely hospitable. If you are far away from home or even someone who gets home sick, this place will definitely help with that. It’s extremely cozy - warm, beautiful decor that isn’t overwhelming or creates an empty space, just perfect. He will offer you a parking pass and give you the instructions (super easy btw.) Bruno is also extremely easy to reach for any circumstance & does not make you feel like a burden. I highly recommend this cozy but yet spacious place to anyone! Especially if you’re visiting Maryland in the cold. Almost feels like it’s your own apartment. Thank you again Bruno for everything! :)

The space has everything one could need for privacy and comfort. The bed is comfy. The tv, lighting, extra towels, toiletries in bathroom. extra pillow, blankets if needed. Even a nightlight. Golam provided some food, condiments. The kitchen had table set out with dishes and silverware. The refrigerator was a big help for my personal food. Could use a tea kettle as I preferred not using Mr Coffee for tea. Well planned airbnb!

This place has dozens of thoughtful touches. It indeed is very small but the owner obviously thought of every last single thing you would need as a traveller. From the frying pan + canola oil if you wanna fry an egg, to a microwave/toaster for breakfast, to a TV with a PC hooked up if you want to stream YouTube onto it. I had everything I needed unlike other airbnbs where you feel like you're missing things. Outstanding hospitality, he came by just to check in once or twice. I made a request to meet his dog as well as to turn up the heat and everything was taken care of. Only caveats is that the place is quite small so I'd recommend for solo travellers. Photos are accurate.

Rodrigo's place was absolutely perfect for my short visit to Bethesda. Everything about the apartment was comfortable and cozy, especially the bed! I'll be dreaming about that bed for a long time. I had everything I needed from toiletries, to kitchen supplies, to ample parking. The location was also great. Everything you needed was within a 5 min drive in either direction. There was also a park directly across the street which made walking my four legged friend super easy in the mornings. Rodrigo showed great hospitality and was always quick to respond. He was also super attentive to details and didn't make you feel like just another paycheck walking in and out of his home. He made you feel human, which is what I look for, otherwise I'd just book a hotel. I wish I was able to meet the host and his fur baby as well, but hopefully I'll be able to visit again in one of his many properties. Thanks Rodrigo for letting me stay in your home for my peaceful, end-of-2019 getaway! :)

Tianni offers terrific value for your traveling dollar. There is lots of space, private bath and kitchen, and laundry facilities. Her home is close to one of the best independent bookstores around, as well as many small restaurants and food stores.

Great place to stay! Tianni did her best to make everything she could to ensure our stay would be nice. Beds are very comfortable and shower is great! Neighborhood is safe and close to some conveniences. If you are driving or going by Uber / Taxi you’re fine. Subway is around 20-25 minutes walk. I highly recommend and would stay at Tianni’s again, if possible.

Tianni was a great host. This air bnb was in a great location. Close to the subway making it easy for us to get in and out of downtown Washington. Having the entire space for ourselves gave us great privacy. The shower head was nice and being able to put our car in a garage was a nice touch. :)

Ehab's place was clean, quiet, and conveniently located near the NIH campus. Ehab was very welcoming and helped make my stay smooth and comfortable.

Everything is great in there. He is a very nice man, and he helped me lots of things. The access to NIH and shopping mall is great by using metro.

Ehab and his family were very kind hosts. We stayed with them for a whole month while working at the NIH. They were always available when we needed them and they helped us everytime we needed their help. Would totally recommend this place to stay, is really big and comfortable. Ehab was an amazing host!! I stayed in his apartment while mine was being renovated and it perfectly suited my needs. Initially I wasn't sure how long I would need to stay (because renos can be unpredictable), and Ehab could not have been kinder, more understanding or more flexible. Then, when I unexpectedly needed to extend my stay, Ehab offered additional amenities to assure that I had everything I needed. The apartment is very spacious and it's in a great location. I would certainly stay there again if I'm ever crazy enough to do more renovations....

Anton was very prompt with communication and was also very accommodating. The place was very clean and neat and is in a great location that is safe and close to Bethesda Row area.

Anton's apartment was great. We stayed here for two months as I had a rotation in Rockville, MD. It is very clean, Anton was very responsive, and it was within walking distance of both parts of downtown Bethesda. It was a really hot summer, and the AC was crucial! I would highly recommend this apartment to any other travelers.

Anton and his family were very gracious and friendly. The apartment is very comfortable, clean and in a great location with readily available street parking. Because it is a basement apartment directly beneath the house, there is some normal “family noise” that one can hear from time to time. But this was a minor issue and we felt the apartment was an extremely good value.

It's a nice place to stay, especially if you need to go to downtown Bethesda (2 buses nearby) or NIH (NIH shuttle). The room was clean and the host was very reactive.

Pak made staying with her as easy and accommodating as possible!

Pak's place was great. it's small, but that's what I needed. Pak was also very responsive. She accommodated my requests quite rapidly. She lent me her rice cooker, provided another light bulb and power extension cord and allowed me to park my bike indoor.

It was a pleasure staying here. It was so easy and convenient. Clean and and comfortable, with everything you need to stay in a home away from home. Plus Pak is the best host ever. Prime location, close to metro, great restaurants and bars. If you are looking for a place in Bethesda this is it. Words can’t justify how great this place is. I love it. Annalise's home is in a very quiet location, within easy walking distance to a supermarket and the bus stops. Annalise was so kind and helpful on our arrival with luggage and showing us where things are in the apartment.

I like lore light if I'm reading and having tea before bed. Something that just lights a small area. We enjoyed the farmer's market, thanks. I got to practice Italian this evening with a student from Italy.

This was my second time staying at Alex's place. The location is convenient - near the J1, J2 bus line - and Alex is a great host. He responds to questions or requests very quickly. The room is spacious, the bed is comfortable and the house is quiet. I would definitely consider staying there again on a future trip.

Red line Metro access is a short 10 min ride away. You walk 2 - 3 blocks from the house to the bus. The house is quiet so I was able to sleep very well. The checkin was easy and Alex is welcoming. The neighborhood feels very safe and is located near two grocery stores, retail and coffee shops.

Alex is a very kind, hospitable, and accessible person, with a straight-forward approach to inn-keeping.

This was truly a most enjoyable and memorable stay for us. This home is grand (pictures don't do it justice) and our bedroom and private bathroom were spotless. However, it is Anne's gracious hospitality, generosity and stories that will captivate you and most likely become a memory you will treasure. From the espresso's, organic half & half, pastries, snacks, fruit and oats - we felt treated like family. I can't say enough about our adventure.

Such a wonderful stay! I was intrigued by the prior guests’ reviews and booked a four night stay while in town for a workshop. Anne’s home and hospitality is unlike anything I have ever experienced. You may physically be in Bethesda, but you will mentally be traveling the world with all of the beautiful pieces in her home and the fascinating conversations. Her home is in a great location; the neighborhood is serene, walking distance to the NIH and public transit, and close to many great restaurants and shopping areas. As others have described, inside her house is like a museum, and every time I entered a room, I’d be drawn to something I hadn’t noticed before. One of my favorite parts of my stay was the breakfast. I typically grab a granola bar and rush to work, so it was such a treat to sit down, enjoy a delicious breakfast, and chat with Anne about history, travels...you name it. She is the type of person you feel you have known for years, and I will certainly be back!

If you ever wanted to travel and see the world, but never got around to it, then I suggest you book a stay at Anne's place in Bethseda, MD. Anne has lived on five (5) continents, and collected memorabilia for various countries around the world. There are literally thousands of artifacts in the house, and Anne has a story to go with each of them. Staying in her home is like spending time in a world-class museum! Even the bar soaps in the sink and shower are exotic and extravagant. However, as wonderful as the house is, it's owner, Anne is even more wonderful. Anne is a warm, kind, and very caring person, who goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable in her home. We bonded with her immediately, before we even left the foyer to head up to our room. Anne serves a continental breakfast every morning, and provides a large selection of jams and jellys, not to mention occassional fresh baked breads and pastries, which only makes sense since Anne is French by birth. It may be difficult for the first-time visitor to find this house (especially in the dark), as it sits back with two other houses at the end of a long private driveway, off one of the roads in this suburban development. I would suggest you do a Google satellite map recon, before leaving, to familiarize yourself with the immediate area. In the future, my wife and I intend to make this our "base of operations" whenever we visit the Washington D.C. area.

It's a very good place to stay. The location is perfect and I felt safe to walk even at night. Everything inside the room is clean and comfortable. It's like another home in Bethesda. Also, Anne is a super great host I have ever had. I recommend this wonderful place to anyone who would like to visit DC/Bethesda.

WOW!!!..... I am so grateful I came across Anne's very calming and beautiful home. She really goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Her personal touches are amazing. Every morning she was waiting with coffee, juice and fresh baked goodies. She baked the most delicious banana chocolate loaf and these yummy treats from Bordeaux France (can not remember the name). Her conversation and outlook on life was just what I needed to start the day. Thank you so very much Anne, I hope to stay with you again when I return to NIH. Which was just a 7 minute walk away in the most beautiful neighbourhood with wonderful trees all around. So peaceful.

Absolute Perfection! Joy and Claudio opened their home to us and we became a part of their family! Claudio met us with a warm welcome and settled us in our room - soon to be their baby's room. We took a walk in their beautiful Bethesda neighborhood and then ate our dinner (which we cooked in their kitchen) with them - getting to know them better. The next day, we were only moments away from the Palisades Eye Surgery Center, where I underwent a partial corneal transplant. It was wonderful to drive "home" just a few blocks and go right to bed after surgery. They had thought of everything for our comfort, and I even had a cat nursemaid - Sampson cuddled in with me as I rested. We cannot say enough how special it was to be with Joy and Claudio - really "at home" - and we plan to visit them again, in happier circumstances. We can walk to the metro (10 minutes) and ride down to the DC museums. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for a very special visit. Annie and Mack Rowe, Madison, Va.

My 2 week stay in their house was perfect: As described metro and NIH are in walking distance, the room and private bathroom as well as the shared kitchen are nice. Joy and Claudio are super helpful and kind. Since I had to leave one day earlier, they even refunded me this one day without hesitation. Oh and Sampson, their cat, is awesome too! I can highly recommend staying there.

We appreciated the well organised check in and found everything that could be needed for washing and cooking. Jordan was quickly responsive when we had some help needed from him. Moreover his appartment is well equipped and comfortable with supermarket ,metro , restaurants nearby.

Perfect place for a NIH visiting period. Around 15min walking. It is also 3 blocks from bethesda Metro. Near to bunch of options to eat around. Starbucks, pharmacy and a huge etc in the neighborhood. Apt it is pretty much full equipped.

Great place, just what I needed to be close to Walter Reed.

The basement is very nice and spacious, ideal for short stays, especially if you are working in the NIH. I spent 3 weeks when I arrived to US while I was searching for my own apartment in DC. I really recommend this place. T is super friendly and the communication with her was good all the time.

We very much enjoyed staying at T’s place. It is stylish and offers a cozy space. It’s in the basement of a house that can have additional airbnb guests upstairs, but that was in no way disturbing. We’d be happy to be back some time!
