  • Lovely clean and quiet accommodation approximately 1km from the centre of Whitianga. The sheets and towels were soft and of good quality. Good communication and easy check in. Parking available directly in front of accommodation. Vanessa even left a few chocolates out for us which was a nice touch.

Modern room and en-suite seperate to the main house built in 2019, in a new subdivision. 15 minutes pathed walkway to Simpson’s beach (our favourite) , 6 minutes drive to Whitianga. On street car parking available, with private access seperate from house. Small outdoor deck with a private fence with a rural outlook.
This room and bathroom is attached to the back of our garage, which is detached from our house. A spacious room and bathroom. A nice deck extends off the room with a private screen and gate around it which looks out to a rural farm area. You will awake to the birds chirping! This room is lovely and sunny which keeps it nice and warm all year round. A ceiling fan to keep the room cool in summer, and a heater in winter to keep it cosy! Coffee machine (Nespresso pod machine), kettle, toaster and mini bar fridge (in the wardrobe) in the room. Smart TV to provide Netflix, and a chrome cast. *Free wifi* A couple of glasses, coffee mugs, plates etc as well as, sugar, tea, milk and a bottle of water is provided for all guests. There are no cooking facilities as this is a bedroom only, please do not attempt to cook with BYO facilities. A BBQ may be available on request :)
Simpson’s beach, Whitianga. A quiet beach area with access to the beach from where we live. The subdivision we live in is quiet and filled with permanent whitianga residents. At the back of the subdivision there is a stairway which connects you to harbour lights which is a nice walk towards whitianga. Simpson’s beach is a small walk away with a pathed walkway through the subdivision, we really love this beach and would say it’s our favourite! Please check the guide book, those are some of our fav places to eat/visit.

  • A fantastic panorama from this pristine comfortable accommodation with easy pedestrian access down to the beach. Fully recommended and I hope to return!

    Gillian2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • PERFECT PLACE to explore Coromandel coast / peninsula. We wanted to go to Hot Water Beach, Hahei, Tairua, Mount Paku and we were placed right in the middle of all these things which made it simple to visit them all. The private entrance to your room is perfect (and you have your own bathroom) and an outdoor WARM shower for after the beach! They also provide shovels for Hot Water Beach (which is a 2 min drive or 10 min walk down the street). The views of the beach are outstanding! Also, the decor of the place is adorable. The kitchen is serious goals!! This place was awesome. Would highly recommend.

    Tali2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Vivienne and Tossies place more than met our expectations. Beautiful views, night sky watching from the deck, close to Hahei, Cathedral Cove and other beautiful beaches nearby. We would have loved to meet the hosts but they were not home during our stay. They had invited us to feel at home which we certainly did.

    Birgitt2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you choose to stay with Vivienne and Tossie you will not be disappointed as Hot Water Beach is a great location, especially if you surf. You will receive a warm welcome from Vivienne and Tossie who are lovely hosts. Anne and Barry

  • My friend and I needed last minute accommodation and it was so quick and easy to book Ethan’s place. Great communication and the place was perfect when we arrived. Had everything we needed and super comfortable. Highly recommend!

    Melissa2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our only complaint is that we’d only booked one night! Ethans space was perfect— close to town, close to the beach, and the unit itself was so cozy and welcoming. There were so many suggestions that were great resources as well as personal takeaway recommendations. Ethan personally greeted us and made us feel welcomed. We cannot wait to come back for a longer visit in the future. Would definitely recommend as it was one of the best pet friendly units we’ve stayed in.

    Lendy2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place, Ethan was very accommodating with our late check in and last minute booking which we very much appreciated plenty of space to cook, and amazing addition of a hot plate that cooks and heats quickly with all pots and pans you need. Breakfast touches were nice as was a good coffee machine Bed was very comfy. supermarkets not to far either About 30mins drive to hot water beach and cathedral cove, worth the drive. Thank you so much we enjoyed our stay, would recommend to others

Newly renovated cosy cabin overlooking orchard & native bush. Ideal as a base to explore the area or an overnight stay. Set on a small farm 15 minutes drive between Whitianga and Hot Water, Hahei and Cathedral Cove beaches. Our sunny cabin has a comfortable queen bed and en suite bathroom, a covered deck & parking, set adjacent to our house. Tea, coffee and a continental breakfast are provided in the cabin. (During bad weather, breakfast will be in the house whenever possible).
We live in a converted barn house. The cabin was built as an overnight stay by previous owners before any other buildings existed. We renovated and upgraded the barn and cabin to their current standard. We have extensive native tree plantings on our property including kauri, nikau, rimu, kowhai and more. The cabin overlooks our orchard and many natives. It's quiet and peaceful and an ideal stop off central to the area. Note, there are no cooking facilities for guests.
Rural neighbourhood, a short drive to popular local beaches and tourist destinations. Details of local destinations and activities are all available in our cabin and we are happy to answer any questions you have and help you decide on the best choices for your stay.

  • Ann’s studio is absolutely beautiful. It is modern, clean and has fantastic views over the valley below. We loved all the added touches , fresh flours in the rooms, fruit and the breakfast supplies. The main attractions are very close by.

    Daniel2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful relaxing long weekend at this beautiful cottage. It was spacious, beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The best part was that gorgeous view! We spent hours sitting on the deck watching the birds in the garden and the weather change over the valley and surrounding hills and, of course, enjoying the sunset. Make sure you have a look at the stars...they feel so close and there are so many more to see here! Anne and David provided great tips on things to see, places to eat and parking options. We could not recommend this lovely spot highly enough! We’ll be back!

    Leanne2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Very beautiful. It was cosy & private. Anne & David were very kind and helpful throughout our entire stay.

  • This cottage is lovely! The view is spectacular... the cottage is modern. Kitchen appliances (hob stove and electric fry pan and microwave and tea kettle) are standard for New Zealand. All of the rest of the kitchen was well fitted with every appliance you could want and the use of the barbecue. Location was perfect and our hosts were truly delightful.

    Lisa2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay, with fabulous views of rolling hills. Anne was super helpful too.

    Nolan2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location that is roughly 10min away from hot water beach, Hahei, and Cook’s beach. Upon arrival, the host greeted us and presented an extremely helpful map which led us to good food!! During the day, we explored so much within short distances. Every night, we opened the beautiful doors and star gazed in the Backyard!! Overall, I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!

We have a kiwi-style bach to rent on our farm at Rangihau Ranch. The cottage is situated in a private garden setting with rural surroundings. It has a well equipped kitchen with electric stove and microwave. There is coffee, tea etc and some basic cooking supplies. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, handbasin and all linen supplied. The cottage is ideal for a couple or 3 people but can sleep 4 maximum in an open plan design. There's an inside wood fire, outside brazier, bbq and an outdoor bath.
The cottage is a comfortable home away from home giving guests an opportunity to experience our rural life-style and some real kiwi hospitality. It is surrounded by garden and farmland and offers privacy and a peaceful stay for those wanting to get away.
Coroglen is a small rural community with the hills and valleys hiding a rich pioneering history. There is a weekly farmers market over the summer months at the Community hall and a great country pub, 'The Coroglen Tavern.
  • Great little cabin in the country side. We loved the setting, tranquility and coziness. Our daughters loved the various animals.

Also safe for our young children to run around. They loved the horses. Cottage is well equipped, and Tessa in an amazing host. Highly recommended.

We were able to do a load of laundry in the middle of our trip which was extremely helpful. We had a pretty magical evening while taking a hot bath underneath the stars outside. Tessa was so kind and was so lovely to communicate with.

COVID-19: we will be taking extra care to disinfect our guest accommodation by using a hospital grade disinfectant after our normal clean ensuring surfaces such as door knobs, light switches and tv remotes are thoroughly cleaned. We also operate a self-check in system to allow for social distancing. Our place is close to the beach but away from the crowds so if you want peace and quiet with great views, this is the place for you.
Feel like you are in the country but also within easy reach of the beach - best of both worlds. This accommodation is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with teenage kids), and pets (dogs only). It is an easy 15 min walk to the shops and 20 mins to the beach. Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach and Whitianga are all within easy reach. Accommodation has its own bathroom and a kitchen area. There is no cooker but you have the choice of a microwave, electric hot plate or electric frypan to cook with. There is also a BBQ outside. Kitchen has a full size fridge so plenty of room to keep your food fresh. it also has a small ice box within.
Here are some of our favourite places: 1. Hot Water Beach - dig your own spa pool and experience the natural thermal springs - don't forget to check the tide times though! Whilst there, check out Moko artscape. Great place to get gifts or even pick up a piece of amazing artwork for yourself. 2. Cathedral Cove - great walk rewarded with an iconic NZ landmark. Whilst in that neighbourhood, you may also like to visit the Macadamia Orchard and sample the produce - this is located on Lees Road. 3. Purangi Winery - rustic and quirky - liqueur tasting a must: temporarily operating from Hot Water Brewing / Seabreeze Campsite on SH25 in Whenuakite. 4. Shakespeare Cliff: a great walk and lookout point. Approx 30-45 minutes depending on if you want to venture further than the lookout. It can be accessed from Cooks Beach or if you would like a longer walk, it is totally do-able from our property - will add an extra 30 mins each way.
  • A great place to put your things, see cooks beach and rest your head.

Have breakfast on one of the sun filled decks. Take a short drive to Cathedral Cove or Hot Water Beach, walk to Shakespeare's Cliff, Lonely Bay or Cooks, kayak up the Purangi Estuary, go fishing, play golf, visit the wineries, or just relax and watch the native bird life in the trees. The possibilities are endless. We have BBQ's and beach gear, bikes and kayaks, fruit and veggies, parrots and dogs, lots of smiles, laughs and stories and we are happy to share it all with you.
Birds chattering and the sound of the waves breaking on the sand. "Wow, look at that fence!" you'll say as you pull into the driveway where an oasis awaits you. Large front lawn and rock garden with fruit trees, natives, exotics, can you find the hidden motorbike? Up the stairs, hidden from the front view is another big deck, garden planters, huge macrocarpa table with chairs and benches, bbq and view of our large back garden and reserve. Your cottage is on the left- our house is on the right. Fan tails fluttering around you with their “messages", Tui's playing tag, green Wax Eyes, blue King Fishers, new baby Thrushs, our resident Pukeko family, Monarch butterflys and many more are our only neighbours. You'll spy our parrots Chiquito, George, and Tortilla in their window trapezes or outside on the washing line or deck. The world famous Buster will bark at you for sure, he is a mini Jack Russell, he barks to make sure you see him! Following him will be Charlie, the BIG Great Dane. Terry is most likely in the garden, where we grow a variety of veggies, flowers, herbs and fruit. He even makes up your flower arrangements and they are beautiful. We are happy to share what we grow with you, we do not use or purchase genetically modified plants or seeds, and all the flowers are edible. Have breakfast on your private, sun filled deck or the big back deck. Your cottage has tea, plunger and instant coffee, raw sugar, muesli, milk, local eggs, butter, bread, seasonal fruit, ground salt and pepper, dried spices and olive oil. Jug, toaster, 2 burner hotplate, pots, pans, dishes and cutlery. The toilet and shower have big fluffy towels, lotion, shampoo and body wash, a hair dryer, cotton buds and facial wipes, some razors, shower caps, first aid kit, and more. Your queen bed is super comfy and even has an electric blanket, big pillows and your tv has freeview. Books have been collected and friends have left some behind and taken others, help yourself and leave one if you like. There are international adapters, candles and torches. Beach towels are just outside in the blue drawers. There are snorkels and masks, beach umbrellas and mats, hats, flip flops or jandels as they are called here, boogie boards, picnic cooler, ect. We have big shovels for Hot Water Beach and there is a tide chart in the booklet inside for planning your spa on the beach. We have lots of suggestions and fun things to see and do you can read about. You will be treated like family, if you are unable to find something you need, just ask, chances are we will have it. We have WIFI to chat with family and friends, catch up on emails or just browse the net planning your adventures. We have 2 kayaks with life jackets ($10 each for the transport/upkeep/etc) that we can take you to the beach or the Purangi Estuary and then come back and get you, of course this is weather permitting.
A short stroll up the street is Cooks Beach, where the sea is always calm, bright blue and ideal for swimming and relaxing. The sun rises over the headland where the Purangi Estuary meets the sea. A magical place to start your day, peaceful and quiet. Cooks has some of NZ's oldest history - Capt James Cook sailed on the HMS Endeavour into Mercury Bay in 1769, anchoring just off The Purangi, the same area Kupe the mythical Polynesian explorer had chosen when he first landed in New Zealand calling it Aotearoa. Kayak up the Purangi Estuary, its beautiful or at the other end of the beach is a little cave to paddle into then just around the corner is Lonely Bay, a locals favourite. Lonely Bay is the place to collect shell fairy rings, string them up to hang outside your home to remember The Coromandel. In November, December and into January, Lonely Bay is lined with blooming red Pohutukawa trees, NZ's native Christmas tree, it's a sight to behold! Above Lonely Bay is Shakesphere's Cliff and lookout, a great place to view Mercury Bay. Flaxmill Bay is the next beach, warmest water in the area for swimming. Across the street from Flaxmill is Eggsentric, have a cup of coffee and cake and grab some organic groceries, or a fun night out for dinner, sadly they are closed in the winter. The next beach is Front Beach, beautiful homes are along the shoreline and when the tide is out, Mussel Rock is where we go and pick our kai fresh from the sea. Lastly is Ferry Landing, the oldest stone wharf in Australasia, built in 1837. Ferry Landing is where you take a passenger only ride over to Whitianga, you will find banks, restaurants, shops, cinema…The ferry runs continuous in the Summer until late at night and is $6 return. We can easily look up the times if it is not summer, when they restrict their hours. A 10 minute drive the other way takes you to Cathedral Cove in Hahei or Hot Water Beach, both must to do's. There is a park and ride for Cathedral Cove that runs in the summer only, it is located just as you are driving into Hahei. Park there and take the bus up to the beginning of the track. The car park up at the cove gets very full and you could wait for hours. From the car park the walk into the cove is around 45 minutes- lots of stairs at the end, so the walk out is about an hour- depending on how fit you are! The other option is to take the track that goes from the beach. Take the road going into Hahei to the end, as you are facing the sea, the beach track is to your left, just before the big Pohutukawa tree, you will see the stairs. This way will put on an extra 1/2 hour or so. Make sure you have sunscreen on, a hat and lots of water if it's super hot. There is nothing to purchase down there, you need to take it with you. Off the Cove track are two other bays, perfect for snorkeling- String Ray Bay and Gemstone Bay- check them out for sure. There is a water taxi that operates from the beach, if they are running there will be a huge flag on the beach that you can see when you drive down there. There is also the kayak tours, they land at the cove for you to have a look around. Hahei Explorer operates from the Pa end of the beach. Cathedral Cove Dive shop runs diving classes. There are also lots of other boat tours that operate from Ferry Landing- Whitianga side mostly. On the opposite end of Hahei beach is Te Pare Historic Reserve, made up of two Ngati Hei pa sites. A 15 minute walk up to the site, through an ancient pohutukawa grove, leads to the headland with views stretching for miles up and down the coast. Hot Water Beach is just past Hahei. Dig your own spa pool during low tide. The hot springs are only accessible at low tide and only one area on the beach where the hot water is, that is by the rocks. From the road into Hot Water Beach, turn into the first car park you see-just as you are going up the hill. That is the surfers car park, park in there, it is not paid parking like the car park at the end of the road. Walk to the beach and the hot water area is to your right. Please note the water can be extremely hot, so you need to be careful where you stand. Best time to go is on a rainy day or sunrise and sunset, if possible there are a lot less people. SURFING: Hot Water Beach a classic surf spot with a right hand point break and various beach breaks that pick up the best of the Pacific Swell. SAFETY: Hot Water Beach has very strong currents, dangerous rips and holes which can make it unsafe. Please swim between the flags and make sure children, friends and family are supervised at all times. Leaving the area back to Auckland, just before you get to Tairua, or if you are coming this way and have gone through Tairua, are two stunning Kauri trees standing side by side. These two Kauri trees, or the Twin Kauri's, are easily accessible and well worth the photo opportunity, you can see them from the road. There is a small walk from the trees that takes you to a smaller grove of kauri's and other natives. Closer to Coromandel Town, but very well worth is New Chum Beach voted as one of the world's top 10 beaches. This protected beach has no buildings, no roads, no infrastructure or camping. Its a bit of a walk, 30-40 mins. From the north end of Whangapoua beach, cross the stream and walk along the rocky shoreline and over the headland through a spectacular nikau forest and huge Pohutukawas.
  • All the facilities needed for a peaceful holiday at Cooks Beach are provided with the benefits of hosts who are very knowledgeable about the area.

  • A great place with lovely hosts, would definitely visit again.

    Turi2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a perfect spot for travelling around some beautiful places. Kim and Terry are lovely and the accommodation is really sweet and quirky. Definitely felt like a home away from home. We were travelling with our 5 month old baby and there was everything supplied for him that we needed including a baby bath and toys, even swimming nappies which came in handy as we forgot ours. All the homemade food was delicious and the information supplied about the local area was top notch. If we ever come back to the area, this is where we will stay.

  • This place was awesome! Super light, well decorated and very cosy. For it's size it felt really spacious with great indoor and outdoor spaces. And though it's on the property, it felt very private. It's also situated in the perfect spot - close to the beach and the shops (including restaurant/bar). Would stay again!

  • Tracey‘s place is really lovely! So many little details and a super stylish interior and decor! Everything was clean and all we needed could be found. Tracey even provided some breakfast essentials! We had a lot of privacy and a lovely outside sitting area. The beach was just around the corner. There was also a cool bar across the street where they serve really good food. Tracey’s place is perfect for a stay at the coromandel peninsula! Thanks again Tracey!

    Julia2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing space Tracey has created! We enjoyed all the little touches like decor and the aesthetic. Things like having nice room spray and magazines to read. Those little things really lift the space and give it a bit of luxury. The bed and pillows are really comfy and it shows Tracey hasn’t compromised on quality ensuring a comfy and luxurious stay. The kitchen and bathroom are well equipped and we made good use out of all the appliances! The complimentary breakfast and drinks were also really appreciated! Really nice products in the bathroom too. Location is great and we made use of the beach towels and had a lovely swim in the ocean just across the road. Check in was easy and we actually didn’t meet the host or hear the family at all. It was nice to have such good privacy, we didn’t feel like we were staying on someone’s property at all. Thank you for a lovely stay Tracey!

  • Small, but neat studio, very clean and tidy. The kitchenette does not include a stove, which we could have known from the description, but Sandra read "between the lines" that we expected one and told us in time. Check-in went smoothly, we were greeted warmly and had everything we needed. Great views from the deck, especially at sunrise!

  • Sandra’s place was perfect, a beautiful view, close to town and to top it she had great restaurant tips! You have to go to Luke’s kitchen if you’re staying. Thank you!

  • Sandra and her husband are absolute legends! They helped me out when I had a freak accident with my car and came to my rescue when I needed help. Thank you guys for being the best humans ever. The place is stunning. The views, the soft comfy bed, the space. Everything immaculate. Couldn’t recommend an Airbnb more than this one.

  • Great location in Coromandel. The views are beautiful as well. The place was lovely and seemed brand new. It was well appointed and very clean. Sandra was hospitable and made some great recommendations. I would definitely come back again! Thanks Sandra😊

Coromandel Koru Dojo Bush Retreat, situated amid 70 acres of native bush with kauri, tea-tree, ponga and rimu, assuring the real New Zealand atmosphere, with all the other New Zealand icons: a clear creek with swimming holes, waterfalls, glow-worms—even wild kiwi calling at night! Yours to enjoy, explore and help protect. Only 15 mins’ drive from Whitianga (pop 4.500) and close to all the natural wonders of The Coromandel. We are 3.63 kms (of gravel road) from main road corner.
It is very peaceful here with no neighbours visible, no traffic noise."Back to Nature" bush walks, glow-worm viewing at night, star gazing, and recreation in the unique timber geodesic dome, by arrangement with hosts when available. (The dome/dojo can be used as a communal sleeping area on mattresses @$20.00 per person if required, for up to five persons. Bring own sleeping bag, towel, etc. ) Being surrounded by bush means a certain number of insects, such as moths, spiders, mosquitoes, fortunately none of the poisonous variety. Insect repellent recommended for those sensitive to bites. New Zealand bush is safe from dangerous animals or pests. You may see possums at night but they are harmless, furry creatures. Listen for the call of the kiwi. HOT WATER & EMPTY BEACHES: Two good reasons to stay here in the winter. We have installed a “Kiwi Tub”, which is a brilliant hot-tub with many advantages over spa pools, such as completely clean water and no chemicals. Enquire about availability of hot-tub. (See photos.) There is an extra charge for use of the hot tub, payable on arrival ($40/stay). The native bush surrounding us stays green all year round, and the waterfalls and glow worms look even better in winter. The Coromandel’s beautiful beaches are almost deserted in the “off-peak” periods, and the sea isn’t all that cold, for those brave enough to go for a swim. The spectacular coastline remains well worth a visit at any time, and there’s less traffic on the roads. Winter is not as cold as the Northern Hemisphere, and there are many lovely fine days with super-clear skies—all good reasons to book with us over the off-season.
Privacy and being close to Nature are the main features of this unique slice of New Zealand. Walking distance from the Mill Creek Bird and Animal Encounters Park. We are surrounded by bush-clad hills and some farmland. Pollution-free water and air! Great place to recharge your batteries. Good for the soul. Close to numerous beaches and Whitianga town but well away from holiday crowds.
  • Koru Dojo allowed us to experience the rustic nature of the Coromandel Bush. David and Hisae provided all the amenities we needed and the room was very comfortable. They took the time to show us around on arrival and were very hospitable. What makes the place so special is the access to the Bush behind the accommodation. We spent time exploring and taking a dip in the (slightly chilly!) natural pools. We were also invited to use the Dojo - there's definitely something special about meditating in the treetops! We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

  • The place is so cozy and feels like home. The stay was very comfortable and enjoyable! We really appreciated being closer to the nature, David guided us to see those beautiful glow warms, there are so many of them! The hot kiwi tub was exactly what we needed after a long day of exploring Coromandel surrounds. Hisae and David are really great, nice and polite hosts.

    Alexander2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Refreshing and inspiring of body and mind to visit our wonderful hosts David and Hisae! Wonderful conversation in a beautiful environment. The dojo space is extraordinary as are the phosphorescent glow worms and limpets in the nearby stream by night!

The location is great, with plenty of things to do that are within a 30min to an hour drive. Size wise it is perfect for 2 maybe 3 adults, slightly small for 4 adults.

  • This stylish, spotlessly clean and well appointed Airbnb is perfect for a Whitianga getaway. We were greeted warmly by Annemarie and Frederick and really appreciated the many treats they supplied. Their loving cat, Carl, welcomed us as well. Thank you for having us to stay.

    Dee2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Frederick and Annemarie’s hospitality was so warm and welcoming. We were met at their home in open arms, provided with local tips, and the breakfast was wonderful. Extra’s like a beach mat and shovel for hot water beach was unexpected and so thoughtful. They even shared their dinner with us in passing as we were heading into the home :) Annemarie dropped off lettuce to feed the chickens in the yard and the kids loved this! Whitianga was incredibly beautiful and we were glad to have experienced it at this home.

    Alima2020-02-09T00:00:00Z

Our garden backs on to a Reserve, filled with Fan tails, Tui’s, green Wax Eyes, blue King Fishers, Pukekos and many more native birds and wildlife. Your driveway is a couple steps up from a private patio garden and ground floor apt. King sized bed, with feather duvet, electric blanket and big pillows: 2 seater sofa, hand built macrocarpa coffee and bedside tables, tv with freeview, Vintage power line poles make up the kitchen bench with a 2 burner hot plate, pots and pans, utensils, toaster, jug and microwave. A 1950’s classic Kelvinator fridge, all in perfect working order to make up the lovely homey feeling of the room. A separate bathroom, with handcrafted mosaic floor, is fully stocked for you. We had made up a booklet, with lots of popular, and less known adventures for you to explore and WIFI to plan those adventures, chat with family and friends or catch up on emails, note we are not a city and do not have Fibre cable. Outside on your garden patio you will find a BBQ, picnic table to have meals while watching nature pass by, more lounging chairs and lots of garden beds, filled with all kinds of treats. Terry loves his gardening and it shows, there are actually garden beds all over the property: veggies, flowers, herbs and fruit. Help yourself, we are happy to share what we grow with you. We do not use or purchase genetically modified plants or seeds. Up the back steps is a big deck off the main part of the house. Another huge Macrocarpa table, benches and more chairs, beach gear and beach towels, bbq and lots of plants which you are welcome to use enjoy. You will probably see our two dogs: The world famous Buster, he is a mini Jack Russell and Charlie, the gentle giant Great Dane, along with our parrots; Chiquito, George and Tortilla sitting on the clothes line or in the plants. The front yard has a rock garden, see if you can find what is buried under the rocks! There are fruit trees, grape and passion fruit vines, flowers and lots of exotics. We have 2 kayaks with life jackets (small fee applies to cover their upkeep), beach accessories galore, extra hats, jandals, beach mats, snorkels, masks, fins, skim and boogie boards, bikes, and more. We have big spades for Hot Water Beach, you will be the most envied ones on the beach! You will be treated like family here so if there is something you need chances are we have it or can find it, we want you to have the best time ever on your getaway.
A short stroll up the street is Cooks Beach, where the sea is always calm, bright blue and ideal for swimming and skim boarding. The sun rises over the headland where the Purangi Estuary empties and fills into the sea. It is a magical place to start your day, peaceful and quiet. Cooks Beach has some of NZ's oldest history - Capt James Cook sailed on the HMS Endeavour into Mercury Bay in 1769, anchoring just off The Purangi, the same area Kupe, the mythical Polynesian explorer had chosen when he first landed in New Zealand calling it Aotearoa. Kayak up the Purangi Estuary or at the other end of the beach is a little cave to paddle into then just around the corner is Lonely Bay, a locals favourite. Lonely Bay is the place to collect shell fairy rings, string them up to hang outside your home to remember The Coromandel. Between November and January, Lonely Bay is lined with blooming red Pohutukawa trees, NZ native Christmas tree, it's a sight to behold! Above Lonely Bay is Shakespheres Cliff and lookout, a great place to view Mercury Bay. Flaxmill Bay is the next beach, warmest water in the area for swimming. Across the street from Flaxmill is Eggsentric, have a cup of coffee and cake and grab some organic groceries, or a fun night out for dinner - sadly they are closed in the winter. The next beach is Front Beach, beautiful homes are along the shoreline and when the tide is out, Mussel Rock is where we go and pick our kai fresh from the sea. Lastly is Ferry Landing, the oldest stone wharf in Australasia, built in 1837. Ferry Landing is where you take a passenger only ride over to Whitianga, you will find banks, restaurants, shops, cinema…The ferry runs continuous in the Summer until late at night and is $7 return. We can easily look up the times if it is not summer, when they restrict their hours. A 10 minute drive the other way takes you to Cathedral Cove in Hahei or Hot Water Beach, both must do's. There is a park and ride for Cathedral Cove that runs in the summer only, it is located just as you are driving into Hahei. Park there and take the bus up to the beginning of the track (available summer months only). Note check the tides, if it is high tide you will not be able to get there.
  • Generous and kind, Kim and Terry were great hosts. We arrived hours before the Covid 19 lockdown and were made to feel safe and welcome. They also helped our friends and fellow travelers when their flight was cancelled and they had nowhere to go. We planned to isolate in this lovely part of NZ but then our flights were announced. We will never forget our hosts Keith & Avril (Isle of Wight, UK)

  • The place is a little gem! Kim has made the entire room with recycled material and it’s the most amazing piece of home decoration you will find! My wife has already started mentally redecorating our own house. Terry met us and shared some great tips about the city. We had a very comfortable stay. Sad we couldn’t meet you before we left. We really wanted to say bye to Buster!

  • Veronica and Eamonn’s place was very nice. It is a one room unit but has a lot of space. On arrival there is an information booklet which provides insight on some of the best places to eat. It is also in walking distance of a little beach! Veronica was also very helpful and responded very quickly and was happy to tell us about some great places to visit.

  • Lovely place with very comfortable bed, great shower, nice breakfast and fast internet. The pictures don’t do it justice, the place is bigger and nicer than it looks on the photos. We appreciated the local tips in the information folder and the milk for breakfast.

Nestled between Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach is this great little apartment, furnished with an eye for design and with exceptional panoramic views of beautiful Hahei Beach and its many island outcrops. It’s private, clean, comfy, newly painted and decorated and super stylish. Just a few minutes walk down to the beach – and local cafés, restaurants, wineries and craft breweries are all just minutes away by car. This is a great place for a holiday and the landscape will not disappoint.
This is a great place for a romantic beach getaway and has its own private sunny balcony and unlimited free Wi-Fi (your own private connection). Extras include a spade for digging your private hot pool at Hot Water Beach, a beach umbrella and umbrella. There are Ecostore (Safer for you and the world) plant-based products throughout, including Body Wash, Hand Wash, Shampoo and Conditioner. The house is cleaned with natural products too! The kitchen has two hobs, a fridge and microwave. There is a good selection of cutlery, utensils, a coffee plunger, serving bowls and nice pots and pans. There are two heaters in the apartment and plenty of blankets to keep you warm in winter. The apartment is the size of a generous one bedroom hotel room plus balcony and was built in the 1980's so has retro touches. *Our cleaner is experienced in hospitality and has increased his cleaning routine. Our Checkin and out is contactless and we are following airbnb guidelines and having a day blocked out in-between and after every new booking.
In this popular area of the Coromandel you will find a number of coastal walks including Cathedral Cove and also the Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve. Plant, fish and other animal communities thrive in the marine reserve, and the clear sheltered waters are perfect for snorkelling, diving and boating. There is a wealth of historical and cultural heritage on the Coromandel with some historic sites dating back over 800 years, including some of the earliest settlement sites in New Zealand. Many sites are wāhi tapu (sacred) so access is restricted or denied. Visitors must respect this, but other sites such as Opito Pā, Whitianga Rock and Te Pare Pā are accessible in this area. Hot Water Beach is located a few kilometres south of Hahei. For 2 hours either side of low tide you can dig into the sand, tap into the hot springs and create your own thermal pool. (Take care if swimming in the sea here as there can be dangerous currents.) For more information about the area check out www.thecoromandel.com

Built as a high spec beach house in 2012 overlooking Flaxmill Bay. Lonely Bay and Cooks Beach are just a short walk away. Your space is separated from the rest of our home. The room is good-sized and modern with an up-market bathroom with separate shower and bath. Breakfast can be eaten on the decking outside your room or in the library overlooking the beach. Guests are welcome to use the spa pool. We will transport you to Ferry Landing/Cooks Beach so you can have a local wine or three.

    Michael2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing property with very thoughtfully curated amenities. The hosts are very warm hearted folks and have two very friendly dogs. They also gave us extra towels, shovels, umbrellas for the beach. The English breakfast provided was also very good. Highly recommended if visiting Hahei. PS - the room is slightly far from the parking, so you might build some muscles carrying your luggage to the room like we did :) PPS - do catch hold of Simon for local tips and great conversation on cricket.

  • Look no further! If you’re lucky enough to stay at Sian’s place please do so. This beautifully appointed and equipped cottage, Just a block and a half from the beach, adjacent to their home is comfortable, stylish, and it felt like we were visiting family rather than just Airbnb guests. Whitianga is the best place to stay in the coromandel, close by amazing beaches, hikes, art venues, restaurants, just everything you need. I can’t say enough about Sian’s hospitality and warmth plus her lovely daughter and the great dogs! We really feel like we’ve made a new friends and will visit again!

  • Sian and her gorgeous daughter McKenzie are great hosts! The room is spacious and clean with everything I needed -kitchen, fridge etc. Location is perfect and I did my own thing of a daytime (she provided lots of good tips on what to see/do) but of an evening I liked that we could sit and have a wine and a chat (esp good if ur a solo traveller) on her back deck. We even had a bbq on the last night. Can’t recommend this place enough :)

The cabin is great for couples, families, backpackers and everyone in between. It has a modern but homely feel. Great indoor/outdoor flow and lovely bbq area to unwind at the end of your day. Its situated in a nice peaceful street. Walking distance to the estuary & lover rock. The park is just across the road. The shops are a 20 min walk away or a quick bike ride to the beach! Come on up, down, over, across or which ever direction on the globe your coming from. I would love to host you.
Our cabin is a self-contained house. It is 30m2 in size. It can sleep up to 5 guests but please note it’s a tight squeeze for 5. All beds are very comfy with thick quality mattresses that have 100% cotton sheets and duvets. The cabin has all the comforts from home. Including coffee machine with pods, quality instant coffee, tea, sugar, milk. If you choose to cook at home, perfect. There is nice big fridge, an electric frying pan, elements, microwave, pots, pans. And a lovely big bbq outside on the deck with gas hobs if you want to do all your cooking there. All linen, blankets, duvets, bath towels, flannels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, unlimited wifi, free view Tv and a chrome cast! We have a marine toilet which is electric so very easy to use but adds a bit of quirk to our little cabin. We welcome young families and can provide toys/children’s books, portacot so just ask before and we will do our best to accommodate you.
The atmosphere of our property is peaceful, relaxing and just an all round great place to unwind. The Coromandel is an incredible place. It oozes natural beauty. I honestly believe that I live in one of the top places in the world. Book my cabin and I will let you in on some of my top tips/secrets Whitianga and the Coromandel has to offer. ;)
  • Katie’s guest house was a wonderful place to stay. It had everything we needed and Katie and Blair went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and to provide extra amenities for us. We particularly loved being able to get fresh limes from the tree in the yard and grilling on the cute and comfy patio on many evenings. The location was also great - on a quiet street just a quick walk to a lovely estuary and about a 20 minute walk to the main part of town and a beautiful, large beach. We ended up staying here for the level 4 COVID-19 lockdown. I can’t communicate enough how supportive Katie and Blair were, so I am positive they are excellent hosts under any and all conditions!

    Brittany2020-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Katie's place is the perfect place to base your Coromandel adventures. There are great beaches 30 min North and 30 min South. This place is charming, quiet and has everything we needed for a comfy stay.

    Nina2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful use of space, comfy bed, good shower, everything we needed, would definitely stay again

    Matilda2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay in Whitianga which was helped by our accommodation with Katie. Great little space and she made us feel very welcome, even let us use her family trampoline for our young son. Would definitely recommend :)

    Nick2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Katie was a great host and even went out of her way to find an iron for a wedding we were going to. The place is clean and tidy and what we were expecting. Obviously being in Whitianga, it's a great spot!

    Dane2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Katie's place for 2 nights and weren't disappointed. It was everything we asked for and is pretty close to most of the beaches and tourist sites on the coramandel peninsula. Everything is within a kilometer and accessible. A must if you want to spend time on the coramandel.

    Sean2020-02-21T00:00:00Z

  • Karen responded within an hour of our request. Her home was clean and beautifully styled. She was open, kind and gave us privacy. The view was incredible, overlooking the entire town and bay. The wifi was a touch weak but I found that was the case throughout the area.

    Camilla2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This place has front row seats for the sun rising over the Pacific Ocean. What more can I say. Great little place with all you need for a comfy stay and a great base for exploring the Coromandel. The house is perched on top of a hill which gives panoramic views of both bays. This does mean that you need to be prepared for some uphill on the way home if you walk to dinner. It was a short drive to all the restaurants and shops in Whiti. Wish we could have had an extra night to explore this amazing region.

    Ed2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space and surroundings. After a little bit of uphill drive and parking downhill, you will see a breath-taking ocean scenery. I loved the Mexican style decorations, and although I have not tried myself, she had hot chocolate powder (from what I know pretty Mexican) to be used.

    Kevin2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable casita. Roomy and bright with lots of windows and airflow. Amazing views. Lovely to have outdoor table and stools and lounge chairs to enjoy the outdoor space and vistas. Great sleep on a super comfy bed with extra pillows. Breakfast supplies were lacking for 3 days for 2 people. Otherwise, a terrific setup.

Estuary Retreat is a comfortable downstairs two bedroom area. We are situated next to the Whitianga estuary with fine views over the water and the Coromandel range in the distance.
We are a central location minutes from our local township and Buffalo beach.
In the winter we are a quiet coastal tourist town and in the summer a busy switched on tourist town catering hopefully to everyone's needs.
  • John & Larissa's house is spacious and in the most fabulous location - the view across the. estuary is fantastic and the neighbour hood is quiet. Everything you need is provided plus extra touches that make life so good. We really enjoyed our stay and Johns' local tips were most appreciated. I recommend a few days there to appreciate the area particularly a walk to Cathedral Cove.

    Hilary2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Larissa is very welcoming and their place is great, right across the road from the harbour so a great view! Nice touch of yoghurt in the fridge so we could grab one before our early morning start the next day. Really nice place. I’d recommend it.

  • Super spacious, stylish and comfortable, with an excellent kitchen and powerful shower. John and Larissa are so friendly and helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The house is right by the shore in a quiet part of the town, but only a short way (1.5km) from the ferry and the shops and cafes. The view from the deck is blissful. We would thoroughly recommend this for more than a short stay!

  • Sheryl's home was very clean with exceptional scenery. Sheryl and Nigel were very friendly and helpful and gave us good information on local beach access and hiking. We look forward to coming back and staying again.

    Erin2020-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Sheryl offers a very beautiful house with amazing views, super great location close to hahei beach, hot water beach or any other of the close by places like cooks beach etc... We had a realy realy good time and would recommend anyone to go there and enjoy the place and surroundings. We enjoyed the hospitality such much, that we stayed some more nights then originally planned. If our rental car issues because of Covid19 would not have forced us to return earlier to Auckland, we would have prefered to stay some weeks with Sherly. Definately a great place to be and you will feel very welcomed by Sherly anytime, I am sure!! Tim, Maike & Baby Keno (11 Months)

  • Stayed here for two nights. Spectacular view over a vast grassland. Comfortable bed, great location and full kitchenette. Very friendly host who are also considerate and accommodating. Will definitely recommend this place to friends

    Shirley2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We spent two nights at Cheryl’s chateau and the photos do not do it justice!! The view is absolutely stunning and the property is very generous in size, and especially the wonderful decks. The location is perfect - close to town but very private and secluded. We hiked to cathedral cove and caught the hot water beach frenzy - both activities are ‘must do’s’ when you stay here. Also worth mentioning that cheryl is very helpful should you need anything at all- a wonderful host all around. Thanks again!!

    Andy2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Sheryl is a fantastic host! She met us upon arrival and gave us a personal tour including thoughtful stories and giving us history of many of the details in the house. The view was remarkable and there are many spots to sit outside to enjoy this amazing view. The style was very much her own, considering she actually did a lot of the artwork and mosaics that were used for decorations. It is a beautiful place all around with such vibrant colors and a warm, welcoming vibe. She gave us a bottle of wine and card since it was our honeymoon and offered thoughtful and helpful additions such as beach towels and a bucket/spades for the nearby hot water beach. Before we left, she came by and gave us more recommendations on places she would recommend on our next drive. Overall it was one of the best airbnb experiences we had ever had and very fitting since it was the first two nights of our honeymoon! Stay here!

Kitchen was very well equipped and we really enjoyed our stay although it was really hot two days and the temperatures got really high inside by day. It was also worth waking up early and watching the sunrise!

  • Thanks for a wonderful stay. We used this as a base to explore the highlights of the Coromandel, including Pauanui, Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove. Conveniently located near Tairua and within walking distance to local eateries and Paku summit. The view from the deck was simply incredible and one of the best dinner time views and sunrises we’ve had. The house was well appointed with thoughtful amenities. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and could not recommend more highly. Thanks once again to the amazing hosts for this wonderful gem.
