  • Great!

  • We stayed at Lisa's air bnb for a weekend work trip along with our toddler and two dogs. It is a converted building in the garden of her thatched cottage. The village is very sweet and the air bnb was perfect for our stay. Lisa's little touches were so thoughtful and made our stay even better. Lisa provided a travel cot and the room was very comfy. We ate in the local pub (white horse) on the Friday evening - they were very helpful and accommodating and the food was great. We visited RSPB Arne for work and the tank museum at Bovington - both were great visitor experiences and would highly recommend.

  • A quaint and idyllic place for a quiet getaway! Absolutely loved the hot tub, and breakfast delivered to the door in the morning! The hut was well decorated, had everything we need and made us feel like home from the moment we got there! Would highly recommend.

    Francesca2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent little hut to stay in! Furniture and vibe was very chilled. It’s really secluded so you have a lot of privacy for the hot tub and they provided free cooked breakfast through Uber eats which was great!! Didn’t have any problems through the trip!

    Amy2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing! Would definitely stay again. One of the best types of these places I’ve stayed

    Stacy2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little retreat, secluded and peaceful. Hot tub was fab and place was warm, comfortable and cosy. Easy to find with good clear instructions.

    John2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful little getaway !! You are so secluded from everything which is so lovely, just you and whoever you are with, relaxing in a hot tub in the woods 🌟 If you didn’t want to cook anything there is lots of takeaway places!

  • Lovely relaxing stay in a beautiful setting

    Alex2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely gorgeous, warm, cosy and comfortable. Every single thing we brought thinking we would need was already provided, hot tub was already on for us, breakfast brought to our door before we left, my partner is first to complain about anything! But he was amazed and said he wants to come back (a first 😂)... we travelled for his 30th which the cabin was decorated for even with a bottle of drink. Honestly you cannot get better then this little place.. and the bed 😍 don’t think we’ve slept that well for a while. Thank you Downwood. You made our first air b & b totally amazing xx

    Lauren2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was really lovely. The cabin was cosy and full of thoughtful touches including decorations for my birthday and a bottle of Prosecco! Relaxing in the hot tub and enjoying the beautiful views was perfect.

Our cosy Studio for 2 nestles on the edge of woodland, yet only 5 mins away from Shaftesbury in Dorset. Wake up to bird song, go for long walks right from the door step, explore many nearby attractions, enjoy a meal or drink on the private terrace. It is possible to have a third person staying. Please indicate 3 people when booking and we will make an airbed, bedding and towels available. There is a charge of £15 per night for a third person. Please be aware that the place is small!
This self contained, modern & comfortable studio annex as its own entrance with private terrace and outdoor space. The property sits in an area of outstanding natural beauty, nestled on the hillside on the edge of ancient woodland. The property is set in 1 acre of wildlife gardens in a quiet hamlet just 5 minutes drive from the historic hill town of Shaftesbury on the border between Dorset and Wiltshire. We are located about 1.5miles outside Shaftesbury in a small hamlet on the edge of the woods. The Studio has a very comfortable King size bed (5 feet wide and 6 feet 6 inches long – 150 x 198 cm), well equipped kitchenette, sitting & dining area, a quite small shower room with basin and toilet, and a walk-in wardrobe/storage. Ideal for walking holidays and short breaks. The studio is well located if you want to visit the End of the Road Festival or Larmer Tree Festival. The kitchenette is well equipped, including full size fridge with freezer compartment, oven with grill, 2 plate induction hob, kettle, toaster and extractor fan. The Studio is ideal for individual travellers, close friends or couples (we welcome all couples!). We're also happy to accommodate parents with babies, but you will need to bring your own cot. Please note that children need to be supervised in the garden! There is a 42" TV with Freesat and DVD player, free Wifi Internet connection (although this can sometimes be slow or disrupted because of our rural location - we can therefore not guarantee the internet service) and stereo speakers for plugging in your iPod or MP3 Player. A selections of DVDs, games and books are available. Outside is a picnic table. You can view the many different birds on the bird feeders, stroll around the wild gardens or sit in one of several quiet benches around the garden. Please note that we basically live in the woods, so there is no view from the Studio terrace. However, guests are welcome to stroll to the end of the garden and enjoy some views from the bench. There is a well stocked village store only 2 miles away in the village of Ludwell, a small grocery store at the petrol station 1 mile away. In Shaftesbury you will find a large Tesco superstore and a lovely town centre with interesting shops and cafés including some very nice food shops. There's a market on Thursday mornings. Shaftesbury is famous for its Gold Hill (from the Hovis Bread ad), it's Abbey, historic buildings and the amazing views across the Blackmore Vale. Salisbury is only 35mins drive to the east and Bath an hour north. An hours drive will also get you to some of the most stunning beaches of the Jurrasic Coast. We have created our house and the Studio as environmentally friendly as possible. We have solar panels to help heat the water and Solar PV to generate electricity. Rainwater is collected and feeds the toilets in the house. We use environmentally friendly cleaning materials and recycle and compost. Please help by separating your recyclables from normal household rubbish. The Studio is extremely well insulated and has central heating. Please note: both the central heating and hot water are heated by an air source heat pump. This is a very efficient and low energy system but works on low temperatures. Therefore please wait 10 minutes between showers, as there may otherwise not be enough hot water available. Similarly the central heating does work on low heat, therefore please don't expect the radiators to be piping hot. The temperature in the Studio should always be comfortable. If not, please let us know as the settings may need adjusting. What makes our place unique is the location. You will be right at the edge of the woods. Deer and badgers sometimes visit the garden and we have an abundance of different birds including Woodpeckers, Long Tail Tits, Jays, Song Thrushes and Bull Finches. You will find some wonderful walks (short and long) right on your doorstep. Yet we are only a 5 minute drive from Shaftesbury, Dorset which has an good selections of independent shops & cafés and a large Tesco. You can park free in Tesco carpark for 3 hours and walk into town from there. The Jurassic Coast (Poole, Studland, Weymouth) or Bath are within an hours drive. We run a non-smoking property, but you are welcome to smoke outside. Just leave your cigarette butts in the receptacle provided outside your entry door. We have a dog ourselves, so know how difficult it is to find accommodation that allows dogs. As the Studio is only a one-room accommodation, it is not suitable for large dogs. But if you do want to bring a small dog, please ask and we will consider it. A surcharge of £5 per night for bringing a dog applies. We also have a cat, Misty. She's basically an outdoor cat, but she likes to manipulate guests to let her into the Studio. You should know this if you're allergic to cats, as we cannot guarantee that the Studio doesn't contain allergens. Also if you do not want her in your room, just chuck her out and keep the windows open only a small gap at night, as otherwise you might receive an unwanted visitor.
My favourite thing about living here is that one can go on walks from 30 minutes to 3 hours through the most glorious country side and woodlands right from our door step. Guests always comment on how well they sleep here because it is so quite and how they like being woken up by bird song. You really are in the midst of nature, yet only a 5 minute drive away from Shaftesbury on the Dorset/Wiltshire border. You can walk into town if you wish. It will take you approximately 40-45 minutes through fields and woodland. Salisbury is a 40 mins and day-trips can be taken to Bath, Stourhead, Poole, Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast.
  • I enjoyed my few days away in the comfortable and peaceful space of the eco hideaway. It is beautifully put together, with modern fittings and views looking out on the garden. The town of Shaftesbury is close by, and I especially loved Park Walk. Gabriela and Neil are friendly and responsive hosts who I would highly recommend. Thank you again for a lovely stay!

  • Another comfortable stay at Simon’s and Doey’s

    Mel2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at this beautiful little cottage was just perfect. The place larger than the pictures make out but it still feels cosy and comfortable. Everything had been thought of and we were reluctant to leave! Also, it's set in a beautiful little area that's worth exploring. We loved it.

    Niall2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this charming cottage for 2 nights and it was perfect. It had everything we needed, felt secluded enough but was also very easy to reach local amenities and things to e.g. nearby Bruton. Clean, comfortable and actually quite spacious within we really enjoyed the time we spent here. Doey made check in very easy, and gave us a breakfast basket which was great. Would thoroughly recommend staying here!

    Joe2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful cottage! Simon and Doey are wonderful hosts who have thought of every little detail to make sure you have an extra special stay. Could not have asked for anything more! Highly recommend !!

  • Lovely place.. will definitely be coming back.

    Mel2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great little house in a really nice spot to get away and spend some time together. When it rained we lit the fire and stayed in, when it was clear we walked to the local pubs and around the fields. The hosts Simon and Doey were really friendly but not intrusive at all. Made us feel very at home instantly. Would 100% recommend.

Our lovely double height wood and stone barn directly opposite our house is found at the end of a long private drive in glorious countryside. A very comfortable 5ft bed, woodburning stove and lovely views, a perfect relaxing and cosy retreat. Easy access to lots of interesting places. Guests can play tennis and croquet. The Barn sleeps two adults. Ample parking directly next to Barn. Please note the Barn is not suitable for children. NB There are no shops or pubs within walking distance.
The Barn is set at the end of a long drive, well away from any road, in a private 33 acre estate, no noise, no light pollution, just peace and quiet. Although directly opposite the main house, it is quite private. High ceilings, french windows with country views, kingsize double bed (on mezzanine accessed by quite steep stairs), wood burning stove, oak dining table with candles, WIFI (not super fast or that strong), TV DVD player - everything you need for a comfortable weekend or longer stay. It is not a hi-tech/spec barn but it is comfy and in a beautiful setting. Parking directly next to the Barn. Well situated for visits to Bath, Salisbury, the Jurassic Coast, Gold Hill, the new Hauser & Wirth gallery/restaurant in Bruton, Longleat, and much more. Fantastic walking and cycling country. Adjacent to Copse View alpaca walking as seen on Countryfile! One king bed on the mezzanine level in the Barn. Shower with constant hot water. Private BBQ area Tennis Court Croquet Lawn Clay pigeon shooting (extra cost) We are happy to collect guests from nearby railway station at Gillingham, Dorset (where there is Waitrose/Lidl/Asda). Bear in mind nearest pub would then be 30 mins walk. Beautiful unspoilt countryside - watch the deer and buzzards from the windows - and lots of good pubs nearby. Excellent access to lots of lovely places - Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Stourhead, Jurassic Coast. Bed made up with 100% Egyptian cotton linen, towels provided. Gas rings, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine. NB The steps to mezzanine are quite steep. No bath, only a shower. NB There is wifi but being in the country it is not strong enough to download movies etc
  • The barn is a lovely space in a great location and with fabulous facilities. We spent our weekend hiding away from 'Storm Dennis' and the wood burner and full kitchen made all the difference. We'd have no hesitation in recommending to future guests and we'll definitely be returning. Many thanks Cara.

  • A place of ultimate relaxation and switch off. We had a wonderful time at Cara’s barn, and would definitely recommend a visit!

    Joan2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Very quiet location. Chance to spot wildlife if you're interested, e.g. rabbits, birds, deer. Reccomend to bring wellies/boots to enjoy the surrounding fields despite wet weather

    Jarrett2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location. Wonderful barn conversion. Beautifully renovated and with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Would highly recommend.

    Cavell2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t recommend the barn highly enough! What a delightful space to get some peace and quiet. It’s beautiful and secluded and basically a perfect base for exploring an awesome corner of England. Make sure to take advantage of the wood burning stove and if you’re into it - the clay pigeon shooting on offer. It’s tricky but so much fun (after all there really aren’t enough places on Airbnb that give you access to a shotgun)

Wise Cottage is a 250 year old cottage with a boutique feel and sweeping views situated in a beautiful village near Shaftesbury, Dorset. The cottage sleeps four, 1 large master bedroom with a super kingsize bed and a small bedroom with adult bunks (plus a guest bed for a fifth guest). Well behaved dogs are welcome! Organic toiletries, bath robes, well equipped kitchen, wood burner, super fast Wifi, garden, beautiful walks straight out of the front door, use of local tennis club.
** Covid 19 update** We understand the concern you may have about a holiday now and the closure of pubs and restaurants. What we can say is that most of the wonderful eateries around us are offering a take away service, some of them with free delivery, and so you can enjoy restaurant quality food at home, or eaten in the garden (big table and benches). We have added some of our favourites in the 'other things to note' section. There are many National Trust places around us that are open and some are waiving entry fees. Wonderful walks straight out of the front door as well of course. There is a large sitting room with oak dining table and contemporary chairs, a well fitted kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. The main bedroom has an upholstered Super kingsize bed with Vi Spring mattress, high quality microfibre duvets and bed linens. The second bedroom has full size bunk beds. Polished wooden floors, Roger Oates runners, sisal flooring and soft Moroccan rugs make up the flooring in the cottage. The bathroom has a pressurised shower and bath. Plenty of towels are provided as well as an organic soaps and shampoo range. The bathroom is situated downstairs opposite the kitchen. The garden is situated up steps from the cottage, it is probably not easily accessed by anyone disabled or infirm. It is a cottage garden, not highly manicured but with wonderful views in every direction. A table and chairs and a barbecue and tongs are also provided. There is a side access to the garden and it is fenced, so will contain a not overly ambitious dog. There is complimentary use of local tennis courts at Pythouse Club, about a two mile drive from the cottage. Please bring your own raquets and balls! Wonderful Pythouse Walled Garden is minutes from the courts for coffees and lunches. The cottage has a Samsung 32" smart TV with all the catch up services as well as Netflix and Amazon, super fast broad band, a small office with desk. Mobile reception is good, but patchy in the downstairs rooms. There is a wood burner and kindling/logs for the first night or two (bags of logs and kindling are sold at the shop a few yards from the cottage), iPod dock, Roberts radio, smart TV, towels, high quality linen and bathrobes. The kitchen is fully equipped with all china and cutlery, pans, casserole dishes, salad bowls, a Nespresso coffee maker (with coffee capsules!) and there is a supply of tea bags, coffee, sugar, olive oil, flour, herbs and salt and pepper to start you off. We always leave a breakfast pack of fresh local bread, home made jam, butter and milk. A folding guest bed can be put up in the sitting room or master bedroom for a fifth person which is fine for a night or two, but unless a young child, it is not ideally suited for five people.
The cottage is set in the beautiful village of East Knoyle (birthplace of Sir Christopher Wren) on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, amid rolling scenery. The village has an award winning community shop (a few yards from the cottage) and an excellent pub, as well as a playground and endless footpaths through fields and woods for dog walking. You will have guest membership of our local tennis club at Pythouse, a couple of miles from the cottage. If you wish to explore the West Country there are few better places to be situated. The Georgian city of Bath is 20 miles away, Salisbury 17 miles, the hilltop town of Shaftesbury with it's famous monastery ruins and Gold Hill is 4 miles and the Jurassic coast an hour's drive. Longleat and Centre Parks is only 8 miles away. There are numerous stately homes (Longleat being the most famous), castles and gardens within easy striking distance, some a couple of miles from the cottage and superb gastro pubs and restaurants nearby. There is plenty of information in the cottage and suggestions of where to visit, where to eat and where to shop. Just an hour away is the New Forest which is great to explore on foot or by bike. There are maps in the house and you can rent bikes at the wonderfully helpful Forest Leisure Cycling in Burley where there are also loads of cafes, pubs & shops. Flying Experiences at Compton Abbas Airfield - from flying in vintage aircraft and driving classic cars to the airfield for champagne lunch... and flying lessons. Dorset Art Weeks: For two weeks every year (Typically end of May & beginning June) Artists all over Dorset open up their homes and studios to visitors to browse their work, learn about their techniques and inspiration and purchase direct from the artists themselves. There are also two extraordinary contemporary galleries with excellent cafes/restaurants nearby - Messums in Tisbury and Hauser and Wirth in Bruton - both definitely worth a visit.

  • Such a lovely cottage, loved the little touches like fresh bread (amazing when we came in late and stressed from London), butter, milk and jam. Fireplace was just the ticket for a weekend away, and host was kind when we were a little tardy and reluctant to leave on Sunday. Recommended :)

  • A warm cosy cottage in a great location with a wonderful local village shop

The lovely little additions of a welcome pack were wonderful and we also appreciated the Complementary shower gel, hand wash and hand cream. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cosy cottage and certainly want to return again. It was the perfect break just what we were looking for

Our modern Eco Pod is set in it's own secluded wildlife garden area, giving a true nature experience with all the comforts for 2 people. Only 5 mins drive from Shaftesbury, Dorset, and 50 minutes from the Jurassic Coast. Superb country walks! It's normally set up with a king size bed. The Pod is tiny. Think of it as a two berth wooden caravan. It really just has the large bed, there is no table on the inside, but a small kitchen area with sink and hob.
The Pod is a small compact space built as an airtight structure that self regulates temperature and therefore is very comfortable. It's ideal for couples, close friends or one parent and child. It features a large bed (1.80m x 2.20) under a sloping ceiling, a small kitchenette with 2 burner hob and sink with hot & cold water. Please note that there is no table inside. There is literally just the bed and kitchenette. The kitchen is equipped with all essentials including kettle and toaster. You will also find Organic English Breakfast Tea, Organic Coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. There is decking on the outside which gets sunshine most of the day (when the sun shines). A few steps up is a Gazebo with a table and 2 chairs. This is a great space to have an al-fresco meal and watch the wildlife around the pond. There is a small cubicle with a compost toilet inside the Pod. Some people have commented that it is too small for a tall person to have the door closed. Please keep this in mind. Guests also have use of the separate unheated shower shed with hot water. Please note that during the Winter and early Spring the shower shed is not operating. In that case guests are welcome to use the shower in the main house. There is a summer house that houses a fridge freezer, a small oven, two camping chairs and space to store luggage or wet clothing/shoes. The Pod sits in it's own part of the garden, with 2 wildlife ponds. This creates a lovely, secluded garden area for our guests. You basically have your own little wildlife patch here. Ducks often visit the pond early in the morning. Look out for deer, badgers and pheasants. Because of the ponds our grounds are not suitable for small children.
The Pod is located in a small hamlet 1.5miles outside Shaftesbury, Dorset on the edge of ancient woodland. This is a quiet area and the most you will hear is the occasional dog barking, lawnmower or strimmer. However, don't be surprised to be woken by birdsong and to hear owls and other creatures at night. The local village store 'Ludwell Store and Postoffice' is approximately 1.5miles away and can be reached by foot, car or bicycle. The nearest pub is half a mile and the nearest supermarket 1.5 miles.
  • Kind hosts helped me out with a bit of olive oil to fry my supper!

  • The pod is really lovely and relaxing! The bed is really big and I had reservations about the compost toilet but it was actually really good!

    Saskia2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place to escape into nature, the gorgeous secluded pod was just perfect for our requirements with the added benefit that it was completely eco friendly! We visited Stonehenge and Bath while we were there, only 40 mins and an hour respectively and also took a short trip to Salisbury and Shaftesbury, there is some wonderful culture and history surrounding this area. The pod itself was compact but still completely liveable for the 5 days we were there with a kitchenette in the pod and a fridge and shower just on the other side of the garden. We were most surprised with how warm it was without any heating, especially if you cook in there. The compost toilet was not as scary as we first thought and we got used to it very quickly, as long as your comfortable with hearing the other person going to the loo as it’s inside the pod! All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it if your wanting to completely switch off and be in nature:)

    Jody2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • The pod is in a very secluded part of the property near two ponds. It is a lovely wild garden with lots of natural wildlife. We both had a lovely time and felt very at home at the pod. The pod itself is very clean and well thought out and it feels very cosy to sit there and watch the natural world around you.

  • Had my own use of the upstairs of Jeni’s bungalow which consists of two bedrooms and a bathroom. The area was accessed via a staircase from the main living area. Jeni was a great host and very flexible with my antisocial check in/out times!

  • Jeni was so welcoming. My stay in the 'attic' was cosy, comfy and clean and quirky! I would recommend it but please be aware it has low ceilings and a spiral staircase.

    Cathy2019-08-14T00:00:00Z
  • The attic is just lovely and you are very private there. Jeni is very communicative and helpful! Great stay!

    Eva2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • What to say? Because airbnb is peer to peer, must people are quite gentle in their reviews. So it can be quite hard to tell how honest people are being. The reviews for Jeni's place are completely accurate. It's lovely. Cost, clean, everything you'd want and Jeni is, by far, the best Airbnb host I've ever had. She's there for a chat if you want it but not in your face. I felt so comfortable there. Just lovely.

    Christine2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed my stay with Jeni. It was my first experience of an Airbnb, I booked it as a cost effective option close to Parajet where I was doing a 6 day course. Jeni was a great host, she couldn't do enough to make me feel comfortable and welcome. The facilities were perfect, clean and had loads of really nice touches to make my stay a real pleasure. Would love to stay with Jeni again and definitely recommend her as a perfect host! Thanks.

  • Great place for couples to stay, peaceful location. nicely furnished, well equipped... great host.

    David2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at millview cottage throughout June for work. Pippa was a wonderful host who helped us out everytime we needed it without fail. The cottage is in a beautiful and quiet place with a beautiful interior and a lovely private garden. The cottage was sparkling clean when I arrived and had all the facilities I needed so that my evenings and weekends could be spent relaxing. The location was ideal for what I needed, the commute was 10-15 minute drive, large supermarkets were about 10 minutes away with a more local supermarket a 2 minute drive away and there was plenty of sightseeing to be done less than an hours drive away on the weekends. I would definitely stay at millview cottage again and would recommend to anyone.

Newly fitted out to a high standard. Kitchenette, wet room with WC, living room/diner and bedroom with double bed, perfect for a couple or lone traveller. Please note ceilings are low on one side of building with kitchen and wet room. The Saxon hill top town is within 15 minutes walking distance with the famous Gold Hill, Abby Ruins and Park Walk with stunning views over the Blackmore Vale. Off road private parking in carport. On main routes in and out of town. Some traffic noise.
Formally a double garage converted into a comfortable self contained living space with everything you’ll need for a pleasurable stay. Private from the main house with covered parking right outside the front door.
We are walking distance from the small but vibrant high street of Shaftesbury. The town has monthly markets and a great fringe festival in the summer months.
  • We had a lovely weekend stay here. The space is clean, cosy, and well kitted out for its size. Only one note I would add is the ceilings are quite low so you might find yourself ducking if you're a giant like myself, should be fine for all normal sized people though! Would recommend the place to others.

No thrills but clean and cosy and the single bed very comfortable. The bathroom is clean and airy. Altogether a really great place to stay and sample the atmosphere and a very fine Welsh single malt. Mark makes a great coffee even at 6am!!! Wondrous place.

  • Stayed with Ruth and the team (two dogs) for the long term. She is so welcoming, the rooms are gorgeous, the pooches are great entertainment and loveable (also listen to their momma and well behaved if you're not keen on dogs), Ruth is a queen in the kitchen and had many chats in the evening with her over a gin or two in the recliner by the fire watching The Chase! There's plenty available in the kitchen for tea/coffee breakfast, room for parking and Ruth is always available for a chat but also gives you your privacy if you prefer (for a nap in my case!). Highly recommended and hopefully see her in the new year!

Triple aspect ground floor bedroom with en suite bathroom (and shower), two good quality standard-width single beds (plus air-bed for a third person if required), handy workspace with oak desk & chair, a variety books and tourist information, along with independent access for guests. The house is on a quiet road right next to the pretty River Gascoigne. Ideal as a base for visiting Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. Kettle, tea and coffee provided in the room.
Our house was built in about 1860 right next to the river! So the views from two of the windows are of the river and you can hear the water trickle by... Please note that due to the age of the floorboards, you might well hear us talking and/or walking around in the room above and on the stairs! And we might hear you! Also, some mobile phone networks don't do well here... (We had to switch to O2 when we moved in.) However, if you can use ‘Wifi calling’ then you will be fine. If you are cycling, bikes can be locked in garage overnight.
Milborne Port is a quiet village with a lot of its own interesting history just a five minute drive from the lovely abbey town of Sherborne. Whilst it is now mainly residential, there are farms close by and there used to be tanneries and glove factories in the village. Kingsbury Regis was at one time its own entity and most of the old buildings in this area are associated with its farming past. There are two pubs in the village, a fabulous new haute cuisine restaurant called The Clockspire, a Co-operative supermarket, a fish and chip shop and restaurant, a chemist, a newsagent, a petrol station that is home to the Post Office, a doctors' surgery and a real butcher! All are within 5-15 minutes' walk.

Yew Tree View is close to countryside footpaths and great British pubs. You’ll love the comfy bed, the quiet, secluded location and the great value for money. Yew Tree View looks out over the gardens and fields, and includes a small kitchenette. The property is situated within the grounds of a family home next door. There is a small convenience store around a 10-minute walk away, and 2 pubs within a 5-minute drive. Dorchester and Salisbury and Bath, are all within an hour's drive.
The accommodation is a studio apartment with a king-size bed, sofa, dining table and TV in the living space. Adjoining this is a kitchenette which leads to the cloakroom with a toilet and sink. A separate electric shower cubicle is next to this.
Marnhull is a well loved Dorset village with a local pub dating back to the 15th century. It is referred to in Thomas Hardy's classic 'Tess of the D' Urbervilles'. There are a multitude of footpaths which begin right outside the property. Close by are National Trust properties, Stone Henge and the world renowned Jurassic Coast is 45 minutes drive away.

He made sure to leave the Anexe warm as we were traveling with a baby, left biscuits, milk, cereals, tea, coffee and some refreshments for us. Everything was sparkly clean and found a travel cot for my baby to sleep in. We all felt very comfortable and I can not thank you him enough.

  • Ester’s annexe was perfect for a short stay for my husband and I, with a lovely spacious, really nicely presented main room including comfy bed, sofa and TV with Netflix and Prime. Lovely, spotless bathroom en-suite (only thing I would say to be aware of is that the partition wall doesn’t quite go fully to the ceiling so not 100% private, but fine for us). Also a small en-suite kitchen, perfect for breakfasts and simple dinners (not much preparation space). Would definitely stay again!

The cottage that we believe was built in 1780. Set in the beautiful Dorset countryside. Plenty of local walks, to check out our stunning countryside. We are a 10 minute walk to the North Dorset Trailway. Unfortunately there is no pub in the village, we are a 15-20 minute walk to the nearest pub The White Horse in Stourpaine (highly recommend). Conveniently situated for Blandford Camp and the Royal signals museum, the Great Dorset Steam Fair and just a stones throw away from Bryanston School.
The room is on the ground floor, the cottage used to be the local village shop. Your room is where the shop front was situated. The room is very cosy with your own en-suite shower, toilet and basin. There is a little wardrobe. Window is rather low, we have provided a blackout blind and curtains. There is a fan fixed to the wall for the more muggy evenings.
We are a tiny village, set in the beautiful rolling Dorset countryside. We are a friendly bunch, especially if you have a pooch or 2. There are some amazing walks right on our doorstep and the North Dorset Trailway within walking/cycling distance. If you have a National Trust membership there is so much to do in the area, we especially like Corfe Castle, Stourhead and Kingston Lacy.
  • A delightful find. Everything you would want and exceptional value. A beautiful part of the country and extremely lovely helpful hosts.

    Carolyn2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely clean cosy room in a family home full of nice touches (plentiful toiletries, water by bed, phone chargers etc). Tea and coffee always available and a plentiful breakfast. The room and dining area situated on one 'side' of the house with own entrance so private with as little or much interaction with the hosts as you wanted. Treena and Aubrey (and Spud, the cool dog) were lovely and friendly, very helpful even offering us a lift to our local party venue. Thankyou

  • Lovely place, as other have said- don't underestimate the steps. Getting your stuff down is easy but dragging it back up again was more difficult. Nice to have an oven and washing machine to use should we of needed too and a fridge! Fully read the directions from Louis, took us about 4 attempts going up and down the road continually turning around to find the turning. The image on Google maps is a lie haha other than that absolutely beautiful!!

    Ruby2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Retreat was a perfect find for us as a base to explore the area a little on a short break. Louis was a very welcoming host and his set up has been very thoughtfully put together, providing home from home comforts. We certainly hope to return again!

  • What’s a place, where to start... Louis welcomed us in person and showed us the accommodation, the communication was perfect from the start to the end. You’ll be amazed by the driveway and the garden, and nothing can beat the view!!! We’ve enjoyed our stay so much, the cat Jess and the dog Dora have shown us the best hospitality in Dorset!! We enjoyed playing with them before going for our adventure! The location is perfect if you want to explore Dorset and Wiltshire! There are a few lovely pubs around, we have tried The Grove Arms where they do yummy food in big portions! The accommodation itself is clean and comfortable, Louis even provided a welcome pack! Thank you Louis for our lovely stay!! Highly recommended this place to anyone who would like to explore the beautiful surroundings!!

    Mathew2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Well appointed self contained accomodation. Beautifully clean and lovely garden to enjoy.

    Rebecca2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first Airbnb experience! We were impressed. Spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need and a lovely welcome pack. There are a few steps to apartment but they're not too steep and there are handrails. The little courtyard off the bedroom is cute and when the sun is shining it's lovely to sit there with a cuppa! Louis's garden is very pretty with beautiful views. Ah and Louis's little dog is very sweet and incredibly well behaved.

  • Dan & Cindy’s Garden Room is a beautiful little piece of heaven. We can thoroughly recommend staying there. Dan and Cindy go well beyond to help, even to the point of providing lactose free milk without me actually asking for it because they heard I was lactose intolerant. It was a lovely touch. The whole place is spotless, warm and friendly. Enjoy your stay. Dave & Jenny from the Isle of Man.

  • If you are looking for a charming place to stay in a village at the heart of the peaceful countryside look no further, this is the spot for you. A lovely personality, Sarah is a wonderfully kind and considerate host, someone who clearly enjoys meeting new people, and goes that extra mile to ensure guest comfort and satisfaction. The accommodations are delightfully cosy in a warm, beautifully decorated charming cottage - with quite a fascinating history of its own, incidentally(!); the bed super comfy, the dog friendly atmosphere relaxing & congenial. Indeed, I can wholeheartedly recommend her home to fellow visitors looking for somewhere quiet to unwind, and happily anticipate staying at her place again on my next trip to Hardy country.

We live in a lovely quiet cul-de-sac just outside the town of Bruton, Somerset. Our pad (as we call it) is clean, light and airy with all the comforts of your own home. We have a very friendly well behaved dog who will also make you very welcome and two sleepy cats as they are showing their age. All guests will be made very welcome and accommodated to their needs. We have knowledge of the surrounding area for walking and touring the area - lots of lovely places within a short car journey.
‘Our pad’ is accessible to able people as the living accommodation is upstairs but once there you have full use of the facilities on offer to make you feel home from home.
The queen has recently visited our town, which you will find very quaint. There are two pubs in walking distant and we also have The Chapel which serves everything from coffee, pizza’s, bakery and lunch. We also have the Roth and bar grill and Matts kitchen which are both lovely places to eat using local quality produce. The town also has an array of art galleries, one on the high street and one just outside of town.
  • Good place, clean room, good people.

Bill and Fiona converted the barn, which was originally part of the Grosvenor Estate, some twenty years ago. Nestled on the northern slopes of Shaftesbury, it is ideal for a short stay to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding Dorset/Wiltshire countryside. The guest room is located on the ground floor and accessed by a private entrance. A parking space is available in the courtyard.
The guest room has a small area for preparing food with a microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, china, glasses and cutlery. Please note that it does not have a full cooker or washing up facilities. Fiona and Bill are very happy to put these items in their dishwasher for you. Tea and coffee supplied along with complimentary selection of cereals, bread, milk, butter and marmalade. The bathroom has a good sized shower supplied with a selection of toiletries and towels. The king size bed is made by Hypnos and is firm. For those with allergies or who are nervous of animals we do have two large and one small dog. They are in a separate part of the house and are not allowed in the guest room or the courtyard. They may however bark on your arrival as they like to say hello and tell us that you are here!
Shaftesbury is an Anglo-Saxon hilltop down famous for Gold Hill (where the original Hovis advert was filmed), there is also the ruins of an abbey founded by Alfred the Great and a small museum, along with a good selection of cafes. Nearby is Stourhead (National Trust), Wardour Castle (English Heritage) and other places of interest.
  • Excellent and very much recommended, great location, great hosts.

  • You will be made to feel very welcome and Fiona was very helpful with the local area, and it's very comfortable and quiet in a great location too

  • Fiona's place is truly wonderful. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and it was a spotlessly clean, beautifully designed space. The bed is super comfy and everything you could possibly need is provided, including bread, butter, jam and cereals and milk and plenty of tea and coffee. There is a lovely kitchen area behind cabinet doors which includes a kettle, toaste, microwave and fridge which was more than adequate. The guest suite is attached to Fiona's barn, about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Shaftesbury in a lovely quiet spot. Fiona was very responsive to all our enquiries and very flexible with check in times and even was kind enough to drop us to the train station on our departure day. Thank you Fiona for such a wonderful restful couple of days away!

    Lisa2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful room with everything that you need including kettle, fridge and microwave with a selection of teas, coffee and breakfast foods. Fiona and her husband were very charming. Thoroughly recommend a stay.

  • Attention to detail and a genuinely welcoming host. Parking space was right outside the airbnb, which was such a relief. Appreciated the fresh local bread and well stocked fridge. It was lovely to return home to warm radiators, when the weather turned suddenly cold. A very special stay for me and my daughter.

    Tracy2019-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Bill went much further than the 'extra mile' to accommodate my elderly parents - the room is easy access for a wheelchair user and the 2 night stay went really well and they both felt relaxed and comfortable. Definitely 5 stars in all categories !

    Katie2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place! It’s spacious and has loads of character, and has to be one of the nicest places I stayed using Air B&B. The Hosts are very friendly and helpful. The addition of breakfast items is a real bonus, as is also the good WiFi signal. Plus there is a small garden area and parking on site too. The shower was great and the bed very comfortable. Thoroughly recommending this place to anyone needing a stylish place to stay when visiting Dorset.

Lawn Cottage is a charming 18th Century cottage in the quiet village of Stour Row, a couple of miles outside Shaftesbury. Shaftesbury is a charming market town perched on the highest hill in Dorset. Filled with lovely little shops, a weekend antiques market, a couple of delis, some old fashioned pubs, and some excellent little restaurants. The 12th Century abbey, with its February Snowdrop festival, is worth a visit and for Tess of the d'Urbevilles enthusiasts the Thomas Hardy Trail that leads from the centre of Shaftesbury to his cottage (past the front door of Lawn Cottage). The cottage sits in the Blackmore Vale, one of the prettiest parts of Dorset, and is filled with wonderful, peaceful walks - including a good walk from the backdoor up to the top of Duncliffe Hill where you can see for miles around. Not far away are several beautiful National Trust sites including: the flowery expanse of Fontmell and Melbury Downs and the Iron Age fort at Hambledon Hill. For something a little more cultured, the Palladian splendour of Stourhead is just eight miles away.

    Russell2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • The beauty of Dorset's landscapes, the charm of Shaftesbury, the authenticity of the cottage, the quality of the offer and the host's warmth are the perfect ingredients for a delightful rural B&B experience.

  • This is one of the very best BNB stopovers I have had; wonderful, courteous hospitality and a gorgeous room/ shepherd’s hut. Very restful, quiet, clean, warm space with a proper BNB breakfast that started the day perfectly. Much recommended.

    Justin2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic stay I had. Everywhere was spotless, the bed was very comfortable and June cooked a lovely breakfast. Thank you so much, I will be back.

    Mark2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • June is a lovely host with many good advices and a wonderful little cottage. We had a really good time and felt very welcome.

    Matthias2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • June is definitely a super host - it was like staying the week-end with a friend. She achieves a wonderful combination of efficient professionalism and exceptional personal attention. She was very helpful with local information and on our first evening even offered to cook supper for us if we were too late to eat in the pub. The house is very pretty and in beautiful countryside, with a comfortable bedroom and a nice bathroom with lovely thick white towels. Breakfast was delicious, and served in a delightful room. If our dog could write a review he would say what a great time he had too - a garden and a big field to run around in with his new friend Lottie. To summarise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and highly recommend Lawn Cottage.

    Jocelyn2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
