Places to stay in Gidleigh

Places to stay in Gidleigh
One of a small group of wooden lodges built in a quiet valley on the banks of the river Teign in Dartmoor National park. Woodland walks from the doorstep. Wild birds and flowers, deer, fishing (day/week permit) starry skies. Small play area. The lodge is warm and cosy and well equipped for up to 5 people maximum. A fast road network only 10 mins away gives an easy journey and access to the beaches in South Devon, North Cornwall and the south west of England.
The only sound at Mole End is the river which runs behind the cabin. Fallow deer are spotted regularly from the windows, and kingfishers and dippers are often seen on the riverbank. With very little light pollution, the stars at night are fantastic. Four steps lead up to a porched entrance which opens into a small hallway with coat hanging space. The living room is bright and spacious with French doors which open onto a large, south west facing, covered veranda where one can enjoy the sun, and make use of the gas barbecue. The living room with high pitched ceiling, has ample comfortable seating and a dining area. There is a coal effect electric heater for instant warmth and night storage heaters for background heat. The lodge heats up and retains it's warmth, so it is very cosy. There is a television, DVD player, CD player and MP3 docking station. Also a selection of books and games for anyone to enjoy. For children there is a toy box and “ wet weather box” for those who want to be creative. The well equipped kitchen opens sociably off the living room, with electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, bread machine, kettle and toaster. The double bedroom which overlooks the river is at the rear of the lodge. It has generous storage and a wall mounted heater. Please note that bed linen is not generally supplied but special arrangements can be made. There are duvets, rugs and pillows on all the beds. The bathroom also has river views , a full sized bath with integral shower, wash basin, w.c. , heated towel rail, immersion heater and washer/tumble dryer. Upstairs from the gallery there is a high view of the forest, where deer can often be seen. Here there is a cabin bed to curl up with a book but which can be used for a 5th guest. The twin room under the eaves looks out to the river. It has ample storage and an electric wall heater.
Many activities are available nearby; walking, riding, cycling, golf, fishing. Permits for fishing on the Upper Teign , which is a "catch and return" river can be bought locally. There are wonderful country pubs and restaurants nearby, with the pub at Fingle Bridge along the bridle path by the river.
  • Perfect cabin to slow down and enjoy the surrounds for a few days.

  • Lovely lodge right by the river. Gorgeous nature and lovely walks right from the front door. Joy gave us a great tip about getting croissants from the local shop which was delicious advice. Lovely place for a get away with friends to mark the start of 2020!

  • Mole End is extremely clean, cosy and welcoming. All you could need is provided from utensils to a washer/dryer. Joy, the host, is very accommodating and very easy to communicate with. She provides lots of information prior to your visit and also in the lodge which is useful during your stay. Would highly recommend staying here, an ideal location to explore the surrounding area or further afield.

  • Moleside is located in a gorgeous location. Great host with a beautiful isolated cabin. Perfect for nature lovers :)

  • Stunning property, idyllic and peaceful location, just what was needed for some quality family time before the chaos of Christmas ensues. We couldn’t recommend Mole End highly enough and will definitely love to return again and again for future stays.

  • The lodge is lovely and cozy with scenic views. The surrounding is very peaceful, perfect for a weekend getaway. Best place if you want to getaway from your busy city life. Will definitely come back. Joy was very quick with her response and very informative.

  • Mole end is an absolute beauty. The cabin it's self has everything you could need and the location is perfect. Will definitely be returning. Perfect for a break from normality.

  • Lovely base for exploring. The weather wasn’t on our side during our visit unfortunately, but this did not detract from our visit. The lodge was a lovely, cosy base from which to explore. Our 2 year old a had a super time as did we.

Our barn is well situated between London and Cornwall, and is on the cycle route from Land's End to John o' Groats. We offer peaceful, simple accommodation, in a converted barn. The decor is simple, eclectic and stylish, possibly shabby chic. The building is spacious yet intimate , with a comfortable bed, cosy sofa, and a wood burner. The barn is completely separate from the main house where we live, by about 30m. Although we are mostly here, the barn feels very secluded.
The building is open plan with a separate kitchen and shower room. Downstairs is spacious, with two sofas, wood-burner and a large table. There are a lot of books lining the walls! There is also a large collection of DVDs for evenings by the fire. Please note, the TV only works as a screen for the DVD player. There is an HDMI cable for you to attach a laptop of your own. The main double bed is on the loft-style mezzanine, reached by a small wooden staircase. There is limited head-space a the edges, due to the sloping ceilings and large beams. Although the barn is ideal for 2 people, it can accommodate up to 3 extra people, if you are happy being in such an open space room. There is a single futon upstairs in the main room, and one of the sofas downstairs can become a double bed. The building is heated with a wood-burning stove; there are always plenty of logs, and it will be ready to light when the weather is cold. We will help to work it if you are unfamiliar with stoves! While respecting your privacy and peace, we are always happy if you need to ask us for anything, walk directions, wood-burner tips etc.
Our barn is a good base if you have come to visit friends or have things to do nearby, or just want to relax. The walking immediately around us is rather flat, but Dartmoor is only a twenty minute drive away, and the North Devon and Cornwall coast path is less than an hour away by car. We have quite a good selection of circular walking books. Also the Tarka cycling trail can be picked up at Meeth. This takes you along the disused railway track all the way up to the coast at Bideford. You can hire bikes if you pick up the trail at Torrrington. There is a very nice café en route called Yard Orchard, which offers delicious and generous home-made food.
  • Lovely, cosy space and great host.

  • This is the perfect hideaway. We loved our night away at The Hideaway and would definitely come back. The space is so characterful and cozy. We loved snuggling on the sofas reading books and watching movies infront of the fire before waking up in the morning to the birds singing. Bliss. The kitchen has everything you need, the bed was comfortable and the shower was lovely and warm in the morning. Even though it is in the countryside it is still very easy to find thanks to France's instructions.

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little cottage with welcoming log fire and personal book and film collection making it the perfect place to get away from it all and relax. Really enjoy our night away with the rain on the windows and the fire on. Thank you so much!

    Rachel2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A really beautiful barn conversion - tastefully done up, cosy and exactly what you’d want from a stay in the countryside. The surrounding area is beautiful and Frances is a warm, friendly, accommodating and helpful host. Can’t recommend enough.

    Murat2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding. Much bigger than photos look but still very cost and quaint. Wood burner is lovely. Kitchen facilities great with tea, coffee, oil and seasoning supplied. The bed was very comfortable and warm and we had a very relaxing weekend. Lots of books and DVDs to entertain yourself with. Frances and her husband went above and beyond to help us and make sure we had a good weekend, as well as responding immediately to messages. We have already started planning our return.

This beautiful two bedroom barn conversion is situated 2 miles outside the Stannery town of Chagford in the Dartmoor National Park. It offers the perfect destination for a romantic break, a moorland ramble, a family escape or some clean Dartmoor air.
Corrindon Cottage is a beautiful two bedroom barn conversion within the old farmstead of Corndon, offering uninterrupted views across the high moors. The cottage offers its guests a cosy home away from home feel with a log fire, fully equipped kitchen and boutique style bedrooms. For those cosy nights in, the cottage has not only the expected tv, dvd, and wifi but a library of books, magazine and games to enjoy. A home cooked menu delivery service is also available just so all you need to concentrate on is relaxing.
Corrindon Cottage is in a perfect location, a mere 15 minute gentle walk up to Meldon Hill with stunning views down to Chagford, which has four pubs, a supermarket, a delicatessen, pharmacy, post office, butchers, bakers, Bowdens and Webbers – two of Devon’s most famous shops along with all the other amenities you may require. For those who want to escape the town – you can leave the cottage and head right up into the high moors for a days walking or a visit to Fernworthy reservoir. Also nearby is the world class two Michelin star Gidleigh Park – a wonderful place for lunch or dinner. A ten minute drive will also take you to the gatehouse of Bovey Castle, with its 18 hole golf course, spa and brasserie for a spot of lunch.
  • Fantastic little hideaway for a lovely stay in Dartmoor. Very clean and comfortable, thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!

    Hannah2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely little cottage which has all you need. We didn't really do any cooking but the kitchen appeared to be very well equipped. The wood burner was lovely as we were there in early Feb and it was cold. There are plenty of extra blankets but it's a stone cottage so inevitably not as warm as a centrally heated house in the town - make sure you have winter clothes for a winter stay. The shower is lovely and warm though takes some adjusting as it runs off the bath taps so take care with children. Once you get the temperature to your liking it doesn't fluctuate. The location is lovely and quiet and the view from the hill near the cottage is stunning. We didn't make it to the reservoir but it is also within walking distance. Chagford is lovely - the bakers has amazing cakes and tasty bread!

    Jan2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, near chagford which has great pubs and shops, and near some incredible forests and stone circles. Peters communication was great, check in and out was easy and his parents in law who live nearby offered some great tips on local pubs. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks!

    Allen2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a perfect retreat for some time away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life. Sparkling clean, great facilities, cosy lounge space to relax and unwind and absolute undisturbed silence- I slept so well. There is a bath which I appreciated after walking all day! You are about a 30 min walk to the local village and the views from the cottage is picturesque. I hope to revisit again soon. 5 star stay!

  • Great place for a bit of peace and quiet !

    Adam2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location. Flexible check in times. The Log burner was a big plus!

    Max2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful cosy cottage in a great location. Well furnished and very clean. Chagford is a lovely village with great pubs and shops. Highly recommend the gorge walk at Lydford and a trip to Drogo Castle which are both close by.

  • Peter’s in-laws were extremely welcoming and helpful with local knowledge and recommendations. We had a lovely couple of days in this cosy and comfortable cottage. I’m sure we’ll be back to explore the beautiful area some more.

Sophie & Jim welcome you to Swallerton Gate Annex self-catering accommodation. It is part of a 17th century thatched cottage that used to be an old inn. The annex was once stables hundreds of years ago, but is now fully furnished with kitchenette, shower room & a comfortable double room. There is a small double sofa bed which can take up to two people for a short term. We are situated in the heart of Dartmoor, next to Hound Tor. Beautiful surroundings, walks & views aplenty. Dogs Welcome!
Double Bed in bedroom Shower & loo kitchenette, dining table, tv, internet (not the best as we are at the end of the line and have no fibre optic!) and sofa bed in font room
We are in the heart of the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. We highly recommend the following pubs/eateries in the area: Hound of the Basket Meals (burger bar in Hound Tor car park) The Rugglestone Inn (Widecombe-in-the-Moor) The Old Inn (Widecombe "") The Kestor Inn (Manaton - excellent Sunday carvery in particular) The Tinpickle & Rhum (Haytor) The Rock Inn (Ilsington) But there are many more excellent places to eat a short drive away! There are many attractions (other than the amazing walking/riding/cycling around here) such as Becky Falls (Manaton), Sexton's House (Widecombe), House of Marbles (Bovey Tracey)
  • Lovely cosy little place right in the middle of Dartmoor. Fully recommended!

    Sarah2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a find this was! A very reasonably priced, thatched cottage in the beauty of Dartmoor. Sophie was a wonderful host; being plant based - she made sure we had dairy alternatives and brought us a freshly made loaf when we arrived! The cottage has absolutely everything you’d need. It’s so peaceful, cosy and warm. Set in the middle of nowhere, it’s only 25 mins from the beautiful Devon coastline. Plenty to do and see if you can bear to leave the cottage! The worst part was having to leave. Hope we can return there soon. Highly, highly recommended!!

    David2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! A great little place in the middle of Dartmoor to get away from it all and a great base for good hikes in the local area. Sophie was a fantastic host and even baked us a fresh loaf of bread to enjoy during our stay, a fantastic personal touch! Want to go walking in Dartmoor and need a place to stay, STAY AT SOPHIES!

    Christopher2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This space is amazing! Such a lovely area and an amazing place to stay! The fire was great and the homemade bread was an thoughtful touch! Would recommend this to anyone

    Alice2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great Airbnb! Sophie was an amazing host! We even ended up going to the pub for trivia. The bread and butter were great. Just an FYI- there aren’t any general stores nearby so if there is something you want, bring it with you. Beautiful location right in the heart of Dartmoor though.

    Jennifer2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Really perfect location. Wet and wild weekend but you would never know once you've closed the door. A true Dartmoor experience with lots of walks from the door. Perfect weekend escape last minute. Just what the doctor ordered

    Louise2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sophie was a wonderfully attentive host, with quick replies and great suggestions for the local area; and her home baked bread was a real treat on arrival. The Annex was delightful, beautifully quaint and just what you need for a quiet week away in Dartmoor. We'll be back...

    Charlotte2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place, with a wonderful host in a wonderful location, really can't praise it enough! Sophie is thoughtful and attentive, even making us fresh bread for when we arrived and giving us eggs straight from the chickens which roam the garden (thanks Sophie!). The annex is clean, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and located about 400m from Hound Tor is in a pretty spectacular location. Would recommend to anyone, and will definitely be coming back! Also if you do book here (which I highly recommend), make sure you play the Dartmoor board game in the annex, we did on a whim and it was one of the best boardgames we've ever played, a great way to spend an evening.

Our Shepherds hut is located on the gentler edge of Dartmoor on a stud farm, with unique views of the Wray valley.
Walking distance to Moretonhampstead, at night you may need a torch.
Moretonhampstead is a moorland town buzzing with activity, it has many places to eat from traditional English food to genuine Italian. Not to mention the great motor museum, August carnival, music festivals and much more.
  • Really pretty hut, convenient location for walking on the moors.

    Debbie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • It was a February weekend of changeable weather and we needed welly boots to get to the Shepherd’s Hut but once there... wow! A clean, beautifully presented interior with all mod cons including wifi, hot water, shower and a lovely wood-burning fire.

    Debbie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Had some amazing time there, even though it was raining non-stop. It is very quiet, very relaxing. The hut is not big, but all the facilities are great. Even the bed is quite comfortable. We did experienced some bad luck with the shower, but Philip tried his best to help us. So thank you, Philip! I would definitely suggest the guests to be prepared of the mud. Rain boots is essential! 😉

    Ke2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy hut in a great location, walks and pubs near by. Went in winter and it was lovely and warm, would be even better in the summer with the little outdoor seating area. Highly recommend.

    Siobhán2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location. Away from it all. Unfortunately it rained when we were there but it would make a great stay with bonfire and BBQ outside overlooking a lake. Very romantic

    Sabina2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic weekend. The shepherds hut had everything you needed, amazing location with great views, very quiet and private. Highly recommended.

  • Lovely spot for reflection

    Alex2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place in a lovely peaceful location. Kitchen had everything you needed, I brought along my own frying pan as I usually do to air bnb’s but there was no need to. The fire was great and kept the place really warm. Highlight of our trip was walking to the ring of bells pub for dinner one evening - the food is great and very reasonably priced. They do a nice draft ale too! Only thing I could fault is that there was only one loo roll provided, but I did bring a spare one along as I had read some of the previous reviews mentioning this! Overall a lovely stay and a great setting for a peaceful New Year’s Eve.

  • Beautiful views in a wonderful space. Loved sitting by the log burner and looking out over the beautiful Dartmoor surroundings. Very peaceful. Kitchen fairly basic with one hob - as you would imagine for a small place - just something to bear in mind if planning on cooking a lot like we did!

    Simon2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Set in a beautiful location with stunning views out across farmland and forests towards Chagford. We found it a very peaceful place to spend some time, and as the property backs onto the moor you can be out exploring within a few minutes. The annexe is cosy and clean, stocked with everything you would need for a short stay (including wood, eggs and milk). Simon and Jo were very welcoming hosts and more than happy to offer advice on where to visit.

Perfect getaway for two. Comfortable, well equipped accommodation with stylish interiors and great views. Explore rugged Dartmoor, its pretty villages and moorland towns. Easy access to Devon coastlines, Cornwall and the vibrant city of Exeter.
The Apple Studio offers you an open plan space with a comfortable sitting room, dining area and well equipped kitchen with two ring electric hob, fridge, combination microwave/convection oven & grill. Area to take off your boots and hang your coats. Pretty double bedroom, with wardrobe/shelves, dressing table leading into an ensuite shower room with spacious luxury power shower cabin. We don't have TV but do have a TV monitor/DVD player and a great selection of films including some classic movies. Wifi connected so if you bring your own laptop or iPad you can watch 'live' TV or iPlayer etc. Netflix Cupboard full of games. The front elevation has three glazed French doors all opening out onto the verandah with stunning views of the valley and Dartmoor beyond. The studio has been created from an existing (almost derelict) structure which had an interesting Eco history. Where possible it has been built, furnished and equipped with reused, recycled, upcycled, secondhand and refurbished furniture and materials. The larch cladding on the front was sourced and cut from Gidleigh woods which can be seen from the studio. No air miles here, just a couple of miles by tractor! You will have to book to find out more! A perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine, relax, listen to the birdsong and enjoy the tranquility. Although we don't usually accept children we think it is ok to bring a baby as long as you can provide a travel cot. The studio does have a raised verandah so toddlers/crawlers must be under close supervision. If you want to bring an older child drop me a note and we can discuss what we can do. Laundry provision can be available - again talk to me about it and I will see what I can do. Everything is up for discussion! Same with dogs! The verandah has stunning views with a table and chairs for your 'sundowner'.
The studio is set amongst lush valleys, ancient woodlands and meandering river walks all within Dartmoor National Park. Chagford is the nearest village where you will find pretty thatched cottages, cosy welcoming pubs with log fires and quirky independent shops. Gidleigh Park the award-winning 2* Michelin restaurant is nearby. Dartmoor Way Cycle Route passes the door. Easy access to Devon and Cornwall coasts. Exeter City - Devon's county town 20 miles away. Easy access to A30, A38 and M5.
  • We loved our stay at the Apple studio. The area is stunning - even in early February the view of the valley (with one visible house) was lovely, and sitting on the veranda in the morning with the birds and a hot chocolate was so peaceful. We were able to do a great, long walk around nearby tors and stone circles, walking from the door to the start as stated in one of the maps in the studio, stopping off at the Northmore Arms up the road on the way home for a cosy pint by their roaring fire (such a friendly local pub). The woods and brook just down the road are so pretty, too. Chagford is close by, with loads of pubs and cafes, a deli (get a quiche!) and shops, including a fairly swanky alcohol shop. We stopped at The Globe Inn on the way home for a massive and tasty roast, by another huge open fire. Cleverly, stylishly and thoughtfully laid out, the studio had everything we needed for cooking decent meals both evenings, and was a warm and comfortable haven for reading and relaxing when storm Ciara hit. Jane was super friendly, welcoming us, giving us tips and offering that we could stay rather than travel during the storm. If we hadn’t had to leave for work I’d have stayed all week. Thank you Jane (and David and Alfie)!

    Rebecca2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely tranquil spot and Jane gave us some great tips about local places to visit. The space itself was spotless and nicely done - couldn't recommend it highly enough!

  • My stay was very short but I am sure I will be back (I travel for work and have also recommended this accommodation to colleagues) Bernard made me feel welcome and his home is very homely ,warm and clean. I can’t comment on the area because I was only there over night and sadly didn’t get time to explore.

    Lisa2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Bernard’s while on a cycle across the country. It was just what we needed, in an excellent location and Bernard made us feel at home. Thank you

  • Bernie is a great host and we enjoyed our stay in his home. It's a good central place to explore Devon. Our room had plenty of storage space and a comfy bed. The area is quiet but in short walking distance of a small supermarket and coffee shops and restaurants. The food was very good in the Union Inn. We loved Mr. Biggles the cat. He's so very friendly and lovable.

We have a cosy double bedroom in Chagford. Chagford is a gem of a town in Dartmoor National Park and is perfectly situated for many hiking and cycling routes. The town has many amenities, including several pubs, cafes and shops. My husband and I relocated to Chagford in 2018 and have fallen in love with the place. We would be happy to share tips and information on the local area and swap stories! ***Please note that breakfast will not be included from January 2020***
Our Air BnB room is kitted out just for you. The room has 2 bedside tables and a small wardrobe. The chest of drawers has been removed to create more space- updated pictures coming soon! There are also reading lights and an alarm clock with 2 USB charging points for your convenience. The bathroom is shared and is across the hall from your room. It has a shower over the bath, sink and toilet. We also have a separate downstairs loo. You are welcome to help yourselves to unlimited tea and coffee in our kitchen. We can provide secure, dry bike storage in our garage. Guests must be dog friendly as we do have a very friendly and happy rescue dog who would love to say hello! My husband and I are both teachers, I teach English (to native and non-native children and adults) and Nick teaches music (piano, violin, viola and singing). If you are interested in having lessons during your stay please let us know before your arrival for pricing and availability.
Chagford is a beautiful and friendly town in Dartmoor. Visitors benefit from many amenities including pubs, cafes and shops. There is a lot of fresh, local produce to try! There are many local attractions. One of our favourites is Chagford Pool, the outdoor lido which is open from May to September. We highly recommend you go for a swim while you are here! There is also Castle Drogo, and many beautiful walks on our doorstep.
  • The room is of a good size and very clean, right in front of the very clean bathroom. I did not use the kitchen but there were a priori all the necessary equipment. Very responsive and friendly hosts, who recommended places to go for dinner and a walk. The area is quiet, but only 10 minutes walk from pubs and a convenience store. I recommend this AirBnb, no complaints.

  • The comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in and the nicest hosts I’ve ever met! 10/10 for a comfy, clean bedroom to crash in for my one night in the area.

The farm is situated high on Dartmoor in the remote location of Batworthy. Surrounded by moorland, close to the Mariners and Two Moors Way. It suits walkers, people that love the outdoors and quiet relaxation. Ideal for mini breaks, adventures and retreats. The farm is organic with wild flower meadows, woodland and river bank. Sheep, horses and dogs. Stone rows, Hut circles, Tors and a Stone circle all close by. 3.5 miles to the nearest village Chagford, which has many shops, pubs and cafes.
Twin bedroom with en suite bathroom has views looking out over Dartmoor. Friendly farmhouse kitchen where you can relax and chat to your host if you want. Informal sitting room with log burner and Netflix/TV. Breakfast is included in the price.
A truly unique place to stay right on Dartmoor surrounded by beautiful landscape full of ancient history. I can recommend plenty of places to visit/walks. The Farmhouse is within a quiet Hamlet up a private drive with no shops! The nearest place is the small town of Chagford with a variety of shops and places to eat or have coffee.
  • Marylou's farmhouse is the perfect place for discovering the wonders of Dartmoor. It's located in the middle of the Moor and the views are outstanding. It's a very magical place with its flourishing natural setting and lively animal life. You'll be surrounded by horses, sheep, dogs, and cats. Marylou is an incredible host, always so welcoming and accommodating, she was able to pick me up from the nearest town as I didn't have a car. She is a great guide and if you're interested in walking around the Moor, she will show you your way around the map and explain everything you need to know. I enjoyed the delicious breakfast she prepared as well as our dinnertime conversations, where I was able to learn a lot about the Moor and the surroundings. I greatly recommend staying at the farmhouse for a truly wonderful and incomparable experience!

  • Greate place to stay for a few days to explore Dartmoor.

    Serhii2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very special place, travelling there was an adventure with streets getting narrower and narrower, felt like in "the Lord of the rings" :-) It was beautifull to take a walk through the Moor with Marylou and her dogs and after that to have dinner and a very interesting conversation with her and a friend at the old farm house table.

    Anja2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Marylou is a great and welcoming host and having lived on Dartmoor for most of her life she's a mine of local information. Her farm is at the end of a long series of lanes but don't let this put you off, it's well worth the drive! The scenery is magnificent and the accommodation is very comfortable.

With private sunny garden, self contained entrance and parking space. In an accessible location within Dartmoor National Park, a beautifully appointed first floor apartment surrounded by stunning countryside. The Hide is filled with light and enjoys beautiful views. Quiet but convenient location on edge of a small residential development within a couple of minutes walk from the many local shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants that Moretonhampstead has to offer. Excellent wifi reception, smart TV.
A contemporary and bright apartment with everything you need to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, full central heating, king size comfy bed, Wi Fi, 40" Smart TV & digital radio. We provide a welcome pack and essentials like tea, coffee, milk, dishwasher tabs etc. There is also an enclosed garden for sole use. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool just around the corner from the apartment, open during the summer months only. The sports centre in the village has tennis courts and a fitness centre and in addition there are numerous golf courses nearby including a championship course at Bovey Castle, just a couple of miles away.
The ancient market town of Moretonhampstead is nestled on the eastern edge of the Dartmoor National Park. With hills on three sides and the beautiful Wray Valley on the fourth it’s perfectly placed for visiting the moors, the countryside and the seaside. Exeter, the capital city of Devon with its historic cathedral and quayside is less that 15 miles away, as are Newton Abbot, Okehampton and Princetown. Moretonhampstead is within an hour’s drive of both the stunning north and south coastlines.
  • The apartment itself is absolutely lovely, tastefully decorated, spotless throughout, well cared for and has countless additional thoughtful touches to make your stay enjoyable from a welcome basket with some nice nibbles and hot drink sachets, to a bird book and binoculars on the window ledge - there's too many to list. The kitchen is fully equipped if you wanted to cook your meals in the apartment - there's even a slow cooker. The apartment is situated at the back of a small, quite housing development and is within easy walking distance of the shops, bars and restaurants that Moretonhampstead has to offer. Our host was very helpful and responded to any enquiries in a timely manner, providing as much help and information as she could. I could not recommend this apartment or it's host highly enough.

Excellent communication before we arrived and lots of helpful information about the flat and local amenities. The bed was comfortable and the provision of Sky and Netflix was a great bonus. Also good to be able to park right outside the door. From the flat you can walk easily into the town which has a supermarket, butcher, Post Office, cafes, etc. We definitely hope to return for another weekend in 2020.

Secure place for storing bikes and drying clothes and muddy boots. Parking on drive for car. Well-behaved cat-friendly dogs welcome by arrangement and for a small nightly fee. Postbridge is in the centre of Dartmoor National Park, with its famous clapper bridge, and is a great place for walking or cycling from. The well known Warren House Inn is approx. 1.5 miles from the house, where there is always a warm welcome and good pub food, including a vegetarian menu.
  • Judy is a very kind, caring host with a great sense of humor. I laughed a lot the last few days. She made me feel like home, what I really needed. Her home is in the middle of nature, so I would recommend this place to anyone who likes nature.

    Maxime2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is a wonderful host and the location is perfect to discover this beautiful region.

    Yann2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is an amazing host and anyone who has the pleasure of staying at her sweet Dartmoor home, will be greeted with with great hospitality and warmth. It is the perfect place to escape the busyness of cities and to enjoy nature at it's best. From wild horses and ponies running around the the most picturesque tors, being surprised by a close encounter with a deer, to local farm animals and the friendliest furry friends. Staying at Judy's was a wonderful experience whatI can truly recommend to everyone who are looking for a bit of downtime and exploring Dartmoor national park

    Stiina2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is very helpful and friendly. Very comfortable bed, powerful hot shower and bonus of somewhere safe to keep my bike.

    Mike2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning place with fantastic views and scenery. Judy is the perfect host. Always available but not intrusive. Couldn't be more happier with my stay. Harry the Cat, Ted the three legged dog and Obi the Russian Borzoi (Russian for FAST) where also a welcoming part of the household. Would definitely recommend a visit! <3 Situated near Warren House Inn it's idealistic setting caters for all. Scenic walks, four star eateries, Public Bridal paths and a nice place to stay. However, The Post Bridge Stores do have limited supplies so taking your own cheese, wine and tobacco is thoroughly recommended. Judy's house is warm and welcoming in a very quiet and quaint setting. Thank you, Linds x

    Lindsey2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Judy is wonderfully warm and welcoming and makes you feel relaxed straight away. Her tucked away peaceful little home is quite magical, spotlessly clean and very homely. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place and can't wait to go back again.

    Rosie2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • My stay with Judy exceeded all expectations. From Judy's kind hospitality, wonderful sense of humour through to the beautiful home she has created for herself and her animals. If you are a nature and animal lover this stay is for you. Nestled down a lovely country lane on the moor, Kit Lodge offers quietness and respite from a busy world, whilst also being accessible to other great treasures on the moor - the third highest pub in England, the wild ponies, the sheep, Tavistock and Chagford are lovely places to visit too. I hope to see you again one day Judy. Thank you.

    Jane2019-06-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a quiet & peaceful location to explore Dartmoor, then Judy's is the perfect place. Judy was the perfect host. Allowing me to arrive a little early & even provide me with a pair of wellies when it got a bit wet on my stay. I stayed in her single room, which was perfect for me, with my own private & very clean bathroom. I am an animal lover, so the fact that Judy has 2 (very friendly) dogs & a cat wasn't a problem. The views from the large patio windows are amazing & I could have sat for hours just watching the birds that come to visit her bird feeders. I feel the photos of her house really don't do it justice. It is bigger & brighter inside than the photos lead you to believe. I would highly recommend Judy's, & hope to visit again soon.

  • What a wonderful spot to stay. The cottage was spotless, beautifully turned out, with everything you need for a stay, very cosy with the log burner and perfect for curling up round the fire after a good walk to watch the rugby! We had a lovely welcome with tea and biscuits ready for us when we arrived and Steve was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage is in a stunning location with beautiful walks from the door. Five stars all round, one of the best AirBnB's we've stayed in!

    Ken2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Steve's place is comfortable, warm and cosy. We unfortunately has storm Jorge with us but Steve's place is kitted out with plenty of cooking essentials so staying in wasn't an issue. There are walks that can begin at the home and plenty more within a couple of minutes drive. Steve and his wife very kindly checked up on us during the storm and made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend staying here for a relaxing break. Thank you Steve!

  • Steve and Tessa were the perfect hosts and we had a lovely time. The barn is cosy and comfortable and we are already looking forward to our next trip!

    Marisa2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We really loved our stay in the barn. It’s warm and cosy on a winter’s day and the scenery is beautiful. Steve and Tessa are friendly and approachable hosts. We had lots of picturesque and exhilarating walks with our dogs all a stone’s throw away. It’s super clean, great amenities and perfect for our family. The kids asked to stay forever! The children especially enjoyed watching the birds out of the window of the bedroom where the bird feeder is. We saw literally hundreds of them including woodpeckers which were the favourite. Thank you for a great stay.

    Dawn2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We visited on a very blustery and wet weekend while storm Dennis was raging, but the Barn was the perfect place to shelter from the weather. We loved the homely feel and the log fire kept us cosy and helped to dry off our damp clothes between walks. The location of the Barn is incredible - ideally situated for walking on Dartmoor, but wonderfully isolated from the rest of the world. Steve and his wife are also fabulous hosts - I can’t wait to come back!!

    Becky2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing 2 nights here. Fantastic location for exploring Dartmoor, amazingly clean and cosy place, the log fire was so nice! Well equipped kitchen, comfy bed etc etc. Our hosts were really lovely and have even offered to post my phone charger back to me after I realised I had left it there! We will 100% be back again, thanks so much for an incredible stay! Bertie and Paola

  • Beautiful house in a stunning location, peaceful yet right in the centre of lovely Chagford. Everyone from the 80 year old to the 5 year old loved it.

    Ruth2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous time in Chagford. Stylish, quirky house with great amenities - especially the woodburning stove. The village is great (butcher, deli, pubs, cafes etc) and we did some great walks from the house - despite the rain and snow. Thoroughly recommend.

    Fay2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Loved, loved, loved! Highly recommend!!!! ❤️

    Julie2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great house right in the middle of the village. Christmas decos was a nice touch. Would certainly return.

    Matthew2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful house in a great location. We spent Thanksgiving here with friends and family and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meal. Especially appreciated the lovely holiday decorations throughout the house. Very clean and the communication was quick and easy. Highly recommend.

  • Belaire is a wonderful home, full of lovely design features and the perfect base for a family to explore Chagford. The house is clean and very comfortable and there was plenty of space to all spread out. We had a great time exploring the shops and pubs. Despite the weather, it didn't stop raining while we were there, we would highly recommend Belaire and Chagford.

    Kate2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best time! The house is wonderful, great spaces, stylish and well equipped. We had a girls stay, 7 of us and we were able to sit together to dine, going in walks, shop around the village, play games around the table or in the living room and and no point did we feel on top of each other. We all want to move to the cute village and I think we’d fight over this fab house! It exceeded our expectations. Lauren was great, always there if you had a question. We didn’t rate the Three Crowns for food but the Globe Inn did a great Sunday lunch and Taw River Inn in by the Sticklepath walk was a really old school country pub with homemade meals and was always full. We booked for lunch and all had great meals at only £8.50 each. We wished we had time to eat there for a week to try all the dishes! I recommend booking as even on a Friday lunchtime it was full.

Pineapple is a lovely period cottage a few steps away from the centre of Chagford, a unique and historical small town in Dartmoor National Park. Front door opens into hall. Comfortable sitting/dining room, beautiful bedroom, king size bed, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with roll-top bath, shower over. Several levels connected by small staircases. Landscaped garden accessed through gate (see picture). Guests have full use of garden including exclusive use of secluded area. Off-road parking.
Pineapple is a self-contained wing of one of Chagford's ancient farmhouses, added some time after the original building. The cottage's layout has developed over a very long time, and it's quite unusual! All heating is electric including storage heaters, and optiflame electric fire in sitting room. The layout is full of charm, and does require walking up and down a number of small staircases which connect the rooms. My mature landscaped garden is designed as a series of garden rooms – one of which is for your exclusive use, complete with comfortable chairs and table. In the upper part of the garden, there is a vine-covered terrace with a dining table and chairs, and a lawn area with sun beds, all of which guests are very welcome to use. Garden furniture is put away during the winter (November – March inclusive).
Chagford is an exceptional small community inside the Dartmoor national park. It is often cited in the press as one of the best places to live in the South West. It is very rich in history, and surrounded by ancient sites dating to prehistory. There are stone circles within a few minutes drive of Chagford (or a medium hike!). Access to the National Park makes this a magic place for walkers. Chagford has wide variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants, some in buildings dating to the medieval period. Shopping is a delight – there is a wealth of independent shops including a great delicatessen. The town is in reach of many National Trust properties: Castle Drogo is ten minutes drive away, or an hour's walk along the Teign. At the top of the town stands St. Michael the Archangel church, which dates from the 13th century. A short walk to the heated outdoor swimming pool (open May-September).
  • A perfect place to stay in a lovely bustling village on Dartmoor. The cottage is very close to the centre of Chagford. Plenty of pubs, shops and a hardware / country store emporium! Pineapple Cottage is very comfortable, extremely well equipped and clean. Sonia was very easy to communicate with, and was friendly and welcoming.

    Owen2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and even cosier than the pictures would suggest. Sonia is lovely and helpful, we'd love to stay again sometime!

    Ralph2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Pineapple cottage is a real find! Sonia was so wonderfully helpful from the very first communication and made us fee welcome in her lovely home. The house itself is charming, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The location is ideal for those wanted peace and beautiful countryside but with the amenities of pubs and shops within easy walking distance! Will definitely return.

    Aimee2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a truly stunning cottage to stay in. Beautifully kept with its original features but tastefully decorated and furnished. We loved our stay and will be booking again.

    Roger2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sonia has a very cozy place that is very nicely laid out. She is very knowledgeable of the area and was able to give great advice on shops and walking routes. Would happily stay here again! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a getaway. Extremely hospitable too! Made every effort to make my trip enjoyable.

    Jared2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This has to be one of the best, if not the best property I've had the pleasure of staying in. The character of the building is amazing. The access to the Moor is second to none. Everything about this place was great. The host met me in person and made me aware of all I needed to know and left me to it. A very professional host with a must visit property. If you are wanting to stay in this area. In my opinion. This is the only place to stay. Look no further.

    Murray2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Sonia is such a lovely gracious host. Her property is in the centre of a cute quaint town. We loved our stay despite storm Ciara making appearance on our last day! Thank you so much for letting us stay in your lovely cottage.

    Max2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Pineapple house is THE place to stay for exploring Dartmoor and the rest of Devon. The house is exactly as described, set over 4 levels, which provides privacy and cosiness in every space. The village is a little gem, with fantastic delis, coffee shops, pubs and shops, and Sonia was able to point out all the best spots. The house is comfortable, characterful and very well equipped but the real treasure of the place is Sonia, who made check-in a breeze, and hosted with great warmth while allowing us space to enjoy our break. A fantastic spot for couples and young families (we brought our own travel cot and had plenty of space for it in the bedroom). 5/5.

There is a sitting room with modern glass extension, mezzanine office and snug and one king and one large double bedroom each with their own bathrooms. Stunning large 1 acre garden mainly laid to lawn and herbaceous borders surrounded by fields and ancient woodland. Enclosed from the lane by large drystone wall. These compliment the oil fired underfloor and radiator heating.
The house is situated at the upper reaches of the wooded River Teign valley in the foothills of rugged beautiful Dartmoor with it's granite tor's, Bronze Age circles, mossy cleaves and wild ponies. There are countless walks from the doorstep of the house up on to the moor, into the lowland countryside and to the local pubs and restaurants. Alternatively get up on a horse to explore - there is a good riding school not far away. Visit the Sandy coves of the Southern Devon coast and the huge surf beaches of the North. The largest outside swimming pool in Devon is at a beautiful location in Chagford next to the River Teign. There is a spa, gym, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, indoor pool, 18 hole golf course and tennis courts at the nearby Bovey Castle Hotel, all five star facilities available to non-residents. Voted best village to live in the UK in the Sunday Times 2015 guide. It has several pubs, restaurants, cafes, boutiques and large range of useful shops including an excellent hardware and moorland clothing shop, butcher, greengrocer and delicatessen. Details of the area, the many restaurants, walks, pubs and places of local interest are all in the House Book Guide.
  • Lovely cottage nestled in the woods. A perfect weekend retreat! Watching the deer in the back garden from bed was a definite bonus! Property itself was clean, stylish and very well designed/furnished. Would be happy to visit again!

    Steve2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in this lovely house. Everything went to plan and the directions and info at the house were all very well organised. The location is sublime. We will definitely be booking again. Also the area of the Moor around Chagford has some amazing walks. Could not have asked for more, just perfect.

    Angie2018-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Adam's place was perfect for us and we really enjoyed our stay there. The house was extremely cleaned and very nicely decorated with everything you can possibly need, exactly as on the pictures! I would not recommend enough this place to anyone looking for a break in Devon. Thanks again Adam!

    Petronille2018-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • We just got back from our stay at One Gidleigh Park for my parents 60th birthdays and we could not have stayed anywhere better! The location is beautiful, the view from every window is beautiful whether it is of the garden or rolling countryside. We were so lucky we could bring my parents dog along as there were lots of great walks in the area. We visited Gidleigh Park for lunch which was only a ten minute walk down the road. The house is stunning, everything inside is pristine and luxurious. Communication from Adam was perfect and the welcome hamper was a welcome surprise. We can't wait to come back! Thank you

    Amelia2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We have rented holiday places many times over the years and we both agree this is the best. This is a lovely house -stylish, comfortable and welcoming and well equipped. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens and the location is incredibly serene and magical. We will certainly return. Perhaps not suitable for dogs inclined to wander off as the back garden falls away into the forest.

    Helen2017-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • I have no idea how to put into words how utterly fabulous this place is, if I was to describe it in one word it would be faultless. The property is cleaner than any five star hotel I've stayed in. It's totally under priced when we turned up we couldn't believe how stunning it was , Adam and Stephen have impeccable taste. Everything has been thought of and covered . The river that runs at the back of the house is exquisite. We saw wild ponies , rainbows , From the window of the house deer , rabbits and an array of beautiful birds . We would recommend it to anyone it would be impossible to be disappointed . Beds really comfortable excellent showers . Chagford had some lovely places to eat . Adam and Stephen are the best Hosts we have ever had sharing all their tips of the area , they couldn't have done more for us . What a precious delight this house is. The picture do the property no justice even more stunning in the flesh . Full marks !

    Chloe2017-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • Simply Wonderful! The lodge exceeded our expectations. The welcome Hamper was well stocked and gratefully received. Really could not have found a better place to stay. We will certainly book with Adam again on our next trip to Chagford. We can't wait.

    Leila2016-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • From the fantastic communication before arrival, to the full basket of logs awaiting you next to the fire, the experience of staying with Adam for our Honeymoon was absolutely perfect. The house itself couldn't be set in a better location for those who love walking (at one point we did a 4 hour walk from the house) to eating and drinking (having sampled all 4 of the pubs on offer) in the delightful Chagford, only a short distance away. The house was beautifully looked-after and looking out from the rear of the property, you would be mistaken for thinking that you were in another world entirely, cut off from everyone. It has to be said that the biggest success story was for that of our 18 month old spaniel Gwen, who absolutely loved running until she dropped in the large expanse of woodland behind the house. She'd definitely give it 5/5 for wag appeal... Thanks again!

  • We had a very comfortable stay and Sarah (plus her family) were extremely welcoming & sincere hosts to us and our dog Gwen. Parking was straightforward, directions accurate & check in arrangements were sympathetically flexible to our long journey. The accommodation was really groovy, clean & comfortable. We loved the sunroom. Seating was comfy, there was a huge tv and although there literally was a raging storm outside (!) the place had a sense of cosiness about it. Breakfast provisions and choices were excellent. This is a great place in which to stay!

    Maria2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah and Blake’s place is very cozy and the shower is just heaven. The hospitality couldn’t have been better. Very happy to have been there. I would totally recommend it

  • Booked as a dog friendly stopover but so much more - really comfy adjoining day room with access to garden. Hosts very welcoming. Walk in shower and comfy, firm bed. Would recommend to one and all.

  • Sarah’s place is warm, comfortable and welcoming. The room has everything you need and the common room is a great place to relax. Sarah was very helpful and easy to communicate with. She suggested local places to eat or go for hikes and was fantastic in accomodating my food sensistivities.

A unique experience: beauty, peace, wilderness. A private rural spot with far-reaching views over a stunning slice of wild Devon. Without foregoing luxury: immaculate linen, double bed, wood burner, subtle electric lighting, views up the Teign gorge to Dartmoor, covered well equipped outside kitchen, hammock, fire-pit & probably the finest composting loo in England. A short stroll down a leafy, private track to a conventional toilet, hot shower & wash room with fridge.
If you long to be on your own in the open countryside, in a secluded spot with far-reaching views over a stunning area of wild Devon, but also like the idea of little luxuries like solid walls and windows, a comfy double bed, wood burner and hot shower, come and spend a few days in Fingle Caban. Nestled on the edge of a native broadleaf woodland with wonderful views over a large south-facing field that we manage for wildlife and up the Teign gorge towards Fingle Bridge, Fingle Caban provides unique accommodation for two. The Caban has a sofa which pulls down (easily – can be deployed by one person) into a comfy full sized double bed, a woodburner (Chilli Penguin - made in Wales) to cosy up to on chillier evenings (wood supplied) and a stylish table and chairs. The Caban has been thoughtfully decorated and has full blinds so that you can enjoy a lie in- though we can’t guarantee the morning chorus will allow it! Outside is a well equipped, covered kitchen, a hammock, fire pit/BBQ, picnic bench and private composting toilet. A short walk down an oak and cherry lined private green lane (approx. 300m or 4min walk) takes you to a shower and toilet room and a wash room with sink, kettle, fridge, washing machine, power points, etc. Offering comfortable and stylish accommodation in an amazing setting, the Caban provides far more comfort and security than fabric structures but leaves no more trace than a tent when removed at the end of the season. Meticulously designed and built by innovative craftsmen in Snowdonia, with an impressively low carbon footprint, ‘Caban’ refers to the name given to Welsh mining cabins which offer shelter in remote but charming locations.
Nestled in the heart of the beautiful wooded Teign Valley on Dartmoor - a stone throw from the National Trust's Fingle Woods (850 hectares of ancient woodland - footpaths, wildlife haven, mountain biking), Clifford Barton is surrounded by 50 acres of woodland with stunning 2 acre lake (½ mile away), which you are welcome to wander around and enjoy. Rustic games barn (table tennis, snooker and table football). 4 miles down river from Drewsteignton. Short walk to Dunsford Nature Reserve at Steps Bridge, spring daffodils, riverside walks to Castle Drogo, riverside pub. Great pubs for food and beer. Wonderful for wildlife and birdwatching, cycling. The best wild swimming spot in the South West. Three golf courses within 5 miles. Exeter, 8 miles.
  • Was a lovely place to stay and great if you're looking for a unique place to stay.

    Victoria2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little yurt tucked away in the corner of a field about 5 mins walk up a hill from the main farmhouse and cottages. Great views, feels really away from everything. There is a fire pit and mini kitchen area with drinking water supplied. We never found the composting toilet that was meant to be near the yurt but we just walked down to the main area to use the shower and toilet there which was really clean and nice. This is a really special and lovely spot!!! We would recommend to everyone.

    Amy2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at Vicki’s place. The caban was situated in a secluded spot with stunning views. The amenities were just what we needed for a relaxing stay and Vicki gave super advice about things to do and good places to eat. We will defiantly be returning soon!

    Harriet2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a quiet, nourishing and relaxing countryside break, this is your place!! The location exceeds expectations and there's everything you need at Fingle Caban to experience a comfortable holiday. At the end of our trip, we didn't want to leave! Very friendly & helpful hosts. I'd recommend this to anyone.

    Yuko2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • WOW !! What an amazing find. This is truly a remote, secluded place to escape from life and just have time as a couple. Before going we didn’t know what facilities were in the kitchen so to help out future guests there was: * 2 gas hob * Gas kettle * 2 drinking water containers (pre filed with drinking water) * Cutlery selection * Cooking utensils * Frying pan * A couple of saucepans * Plates, mugs, bowls, glasses etc * Colander * Salt, pepper, washing up liquid, t,towel, scourer * Washing up facilities No oven, microwave etc. No electricity for the kitchen. But don’t let that put you off because what is there works fine. We spent the evening around the fire pit and then star gazing on the couples hammock. Perfect chilled evening. The compost toilet is fun !! With a great view. The facilities that are a 4 min walk away are great. But the walk back to the caban is up hill, nothing too taxing but worth noting. We will most definitely be returning. Tips * Take a cool box to keep milk, butter etc close by and cold as the fridge is down the hill. * Take marshmallows to warm over the fire pit. * Take a couple of extra blankets for the evenings so you don’t have to take out the ones from inside. * Take torches as it goes very dark ! * We charged our phones in the washroom down the hill or in the games room whilst we played snooker. You will not be disappointed- Enjoy 😊

    Lyn2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great views, cute little Caban perfect for a romantic getaway with all the privacy you need! Would definitely stay here again.

    Ashley2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here during an unexpected summer storm and it was warm, dry and cosy - not even a draught! Stunning location and great walks all around. I recommend ear plugs in case the squirrels wake you up, and a cool box so you can keep cool drinks within easy reach. Great outdoor kitchen, equipped with everything you'll need. The shower, although 4 minutes walk down the track, is lovely. This is our first glamping experience but won't be our last - totally recommend!

    Charlotte2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Vicki and Gavin were wonderfully helpful and accommodating hosts with great communication. The caban was an idyllic place to spend a few days and the views are truly breathtaking. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend without hesitation!

  • We booked rolands place as a stop gap for a journey we had to make and we are so glad we did. It was the perfect place to recharge after a rather challenging Week, it was peaceful homely and private. One of their cats came to join us and she was very welcomed, nothing beats a cosy home with a cat on our laps!!

  • A lovely stay in the idyllic hut

    Neil2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here, a really cosy and lovely spot with some very thoughtful touches. The hut had everything we needed and despite its very convenient location, we felt totally away from it all. Very comfy bed too. Thanks so much for everything! X

  • An excellent and spacious sheep hut in a lovely meadow setting. There is a little walk up to the hut but this does give you plenty of privacy. The showers are also a bit of a walk away however there is a toilet 15-20 meters away. There are lots of lovely homely touches throughout, clearly a lot of thought has gone into this beautiful small space. I would definitely stay again!

    Lucy2019-09-14T00:00:00Z

  • We really enjoyed our stay in the sheep hut! It was really cosy and had everything we needed. Chris was really friendly and we loved visiting the ducks, chickens, and being escorted to the hut at night by the little friendly cat! The basket of goodies on arrival was a lovely little touch - thank you!

This light and airy single bedroom with a desk looks out onto the charming village square. The room can be transformed into a twin room with the trundle bed to take an extra guest. The trundle can be slipped back into place easily when not required.
This is a room in a gorgeous and spacious flat right in the heart of Chagford. With this room there is full access to the bathroom, large living/dining room and kitchen. There are plenty of options for dining, coffee and people watching within a few paces. As for outdoors space... you are in the middle of all the splendours of Dartmoor
Chagford is a delightful village in every sense - picturesque, set amidst a dramatic landscape, and with a wonderful and vibrant community and cultural scene. It has been the inspiration for famous artists like Alan Lee, Brian Froud and for much of the 'Lord of the Rings' imagery. There's opportunities for amazing walks, dog walks, cycle routes - road and off road, swimming, wild swimming, luxury spa treatments, hill and tor walking, geocaching, trips to the Eden project or the sea, tours of local art and craft studios and galleries and so much more.
  • Check in is very convenient. Great for families. Comfy bed. Great location.

    Vicky2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Great apartment, friendly, congenial and helpful host. Comfy bed, spotlessly clean and lots of interesting books around. Thoroughly recommended.

  • Lovely room and flat. Perfect for my weekend away. Thank you Sacha

    Destin2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • The house of Sacha is located right at the hub of this charming place. The 3 rooms she leases are all on the 1st floor. The smallest is facing the street, the two larger ones are at the back. Advantage of the location: all cafes, pubs and shops in the immediate vicinity. Nice village atmosphere at the square. Disadvantage: In the room overlooking the square are the street noise, especially in the morning a bit annoying, but that is certainly not true for "early birds" are already at 7:00 clock on the legs. The room is very nicely decorated and the bed comfy and it has nice fluffy towels. Kitchen and living room are as described, here is also a lot of information about the Dartmoor! The bathroom is very small, but perfectly fine. I did not meet Sacha, aver the communication was great and her aunt makes the best vegan scones in the coffee shop The Green Man! Delicious!! Wonderful food can be found at The Three Crowns and Globe Inn, Black's Delicatessen around the corner has fantastic items on offer, fine salads and the best pasties! Yummy. I will definitely come back!

    Jutta2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • I had the small room for one night and it was comfortable, cosy, well-preened and soft-feathered with stylish, country charm. The shared bathroom squeaks of cleanliness, is well-stocked and has hot water in good flow. From first entry to lights-out, you will find much thought has gone into providing a base that is easy-breezy and nectar-sweet. The apartment has many wonderful touches that reflect the amazing person that Sacha is; her passion for our precious planet is evident everywhere. This is a great place for Dartmoor explorers and nature lovers. It is right in the centre of Chagford, in the bustling town square, with many good places to eat/buy food within walking distance. The Courtyard is fabulous. Dartmoor is on my migratory path, so I may end up roosting with Sacha again one day.

    Phoebe2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous, stylish, comfortable flat with lots of thoughtful touches (eg hand-made bath soak). The central village location is lovely. Sacha was welcoming, and fascinating to chat to.

    Jo2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Sacha was a great host. The room we stayed in was very clean and cosy and the beds were comfortable. Sacha gave helpful information about the local area and the tea, coffee and comfy chairs in the living room made the stay really enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.

  • A real gem of a cottage. Mary was a friendly and helpful host. No on site parking but a nearby carpark was free (winter months)

    Nicola2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is so friendly and helpful. In the middle of the village. Range of herbal teas

    Penny2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Mary’s is a traditional little cottage: cosy and charming. If you like huge windows, modern interiors brightly lit, huge rooms this may not be for you: this is a genuine, lived in and loved country cottage , not a shiny show home. Breakfast is lovely ( home made yoghurt and poached fruit!), the bed was so comfortable and I slept like a top. Location :on a very quiet street yet only round the corner from the town centre where everything is. So really handy. Mary is a mine of local info . I was in a car, and although theres no parking the public carpark is less than 5 mins walk. Mary is a basket maker and I had a 1 to 1 day with her and made my own basket to take home. I loved it! I’ll definitely be returning as soon as poss. I felt so well looked after. Thankyou Mary.

Steve is happy to recommend walks or cycle rides for all abilities and will also provide guided walking or cycling activities, if required. He needs no excuse to be out there in the great outdoors. Sticklepath has two traditional thatched pubs which will provide a welcome retreat after a hard day on the Moor and come very well recommended. You can drink a pint of local Dartmoor ale whilst waiting for a home-made pie. Or maybe Prosecco whilst you mingle with the locals and await your supper. There is also a village shop selling a range of goods including local produce. Sticklepath is also home to Finch Foundry, which is owned by the National Trust, and is the last working water powered forge in England. The market town of Okehampton is 4 miles away with all the amenities you would expect of a market town including 3 supermarkets. In terms of accessibility Tawburn is located less than 5 minutes from the A30 and the Cathedral City of Exeter is 20 miles distant for anyone looking for that city and country balance. • In a lovely 1930s house, retaining the original atmosphere and attractive architectural details, but with every modern comfort, Pam and Simon are welcoming hosts: very helpful and hospitable. I stayed in the single room which was en suite with a shower over the bath. I spent a very peaceful night there and enjoyed the delicious breakfast - with plenty of choices. I would certainly return.

  • This is an excellent proper B&B which is exceptionally clean with lots of nice touches. It is a great location about 1.5 miles from town (an easy path walk most of the way). A very interesting garden is worth a look. I would certainly stay there again.

    Brian2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Northlake is a lovely little B&B, very clean and tidy with thought put into guest stays (loved the home made flap-jack in the room!). Pam and Simon were great too, and advised on local services to make the weekend run smoothly. Breakfast was fabulous, and thankfully they were flexible with check-in so I could make the drive down from London in the evening. The room was great value and more spacious than I thought it'd be. I'd recommend this place and will probably be back if in the area.

    Mark2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful host and beautiful house. I stayed here on a work trip and it was a very relaxing experience and took all the stress out of my morning. It was far better than I expected because there some beautiful dogs and a home cooked breakfast.

    Ami2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic place on the edge of the Moor, perfect for my needs. The hosts are wonderful, welcoming me after a long drive, even recommending a good restaurant in Okehampton, the local town. I'd stay again.

    Ant2019-12-17T00:00:00Z
  • Pam made me feel very welcome and the breakfast was lovely, will most definitely be staying with them in the future

    Alan2019-11-18T00:00:00Z

  • The place was really clean and very cosy, can't really blame Julia for the very wet and windy weather, but the place was great, some amazingly thoughtful touches too, dog water bowl, little dog treats and shower gel, well stocked kitchen. The place is really well decorated and it was so nice to stay somewhere with a comfy mattress, excellent stay in a beautiful village and Julia was very lovely and hospitable.

  • Perfect little base for exploring north Dartmoor. Beautifully laid out, and had everything I needed for my solo stay. Lots of clear and helpful local information was provided. After a windswept day on the moor it was lovely to come back to the peace and cosiness of the Potting Shed and relax. Thank you Julia.

    Catherine2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Potting Shed was an amazing find! Right next to two pubs and a shop, and ideal for exploring Dartmoor. Many recommendations from Julia in the welcome book/instructions and thoughtful additions of magazines that also suggest things and walks to do. The Kings Arms pub was great, spent New Year there and we were treated like locals who had lived there for years! Thoroughly recommend a visit. Julia was a great host who had thought of everything and went the extra mile when we needed anything (forgot to buy cooking oil and she gave us some!). Couldn’t ask for a better host and the space is well thought out and very tidy! Would definitely make a return visit in the future!

Each morning we got to watch the chickens, ducks and guinea fowl eating their breakfast whilst we had ours. There are great local walks across Dartmoor and we had a lovely meal at The Ring of Bells. James was really welcoming and let us know we could contact him with any problems or suggestions for local walks. Great cottage, highly recommend and amazing value too.

  • A wonderfully appointed little getaway with the moors on the doorstep. We were met at the gate to the property and shown around. The owners are available but unobtrusive and the property is lovely and quiet. For our weekend the weather was cold and wet but the fire soon warmed everything and everyone up. There is plenty of local life, horses in the stables, ducks on the pond and the guinea fowl and it is dog friendly. A fantastic stay - thank you

The hosts are fantastic with communicating and are there if you need them but respect your privacy. My husband and I had the most restful four nights five days I highly recommend it you will not be disappointed.

A single room with morning light, in a peaceful terraced house 5 minutes walk from village centre and overlooking the jasmine and cherry tree and the moor beyond. The village has shops, tearooms, crafts, pubs and easy access to fantastic walks and bike rides. Help yourself breakfast available. A simple retreat in a welcoming home.
Warm, welcoming, clean and lived in. This is a light three-bedroom house in a friendly crescent of terraced houses in this Dartmoor village of Moretonhampstead. Shared with an easy going owner, keen on yoga, meditation, walking, writing and having a laugh, you can be sure of a relaxed and calm atmosphere. The bedroom is compact and light and the bed very comfortable, with a view over Hingston Rocks and the moor beyond. A hot drink can be provided on arrival. For winter guests, a water bottle and blankets are there to keep you warm. Local information can be found on the bookshelf, hangers on the back of the door and there is a small chest of drawers for storage. I have two cats who are always kept out of the guest bedroom, whether it's occupied or not. I live 5 mins walk from shops, art gallery, potteries, cafes, independent pizzaria and a popular friendly gastropub, known for its great music nights and delicious food.
Moretonhampstead is known as the 'gateway' to the moor. It's an old market town or village with a population of about 1,700. There are great walks straight from the door, as I live two minutes from the fields that lead to views back over the moor to the prominent feature of Haytor. My favourite is walking up through the fields and ancient walkways which open out to the Fingle Wood valley below. Mardon Down, the local hill, is a good hours circular walk. A 20 minute drive to the high moor though and you can roam, cycle, climb or river swim all day. In the summer there is also a heated outdoor swimming pool (Devon loves its outdoor pools) 5 minutes walk away. There is also a river-fed solar heated outdoor pool, 15 minutes drive away in Chagford, a pretty market village with interesting shops and good cafes - both villages active with community life on a Saturday.
  • Small but cozy room in a lively town with cheerful pubs and hospitable locals. Cath is a great host, and Max the cat lovely company!

  • Cat's place is really nice and welcoming, and cat is a sweet and helpful host. Her home is a very short walk into town and the room is sweet as well, and does indeed have nice morning light. And she makes a great cup of morning coffee!

  • It is a really nice experience to spend weekend with Cat and her cuddly cats!Well-location and beautiful view. There is no bus on Sunday and Cat give me a lift to Bovey Tracy. Thank you for your hospitality!!!

  • Cat’s home has a calm welcoming vibe. The room is small but spotlessly clean with nice touches ( e.g. the flowers) The bed is comfortable and everything was perfect for an overnight stay. Hard to say which Cat was most welcoming - the host Cat or her rather chunky non stop purring tabby cat.....

  • A lovely place to stay. Absolutely everything you could need. I loved swimming at the open air pool, only 5 minutes walk away. Fabulous countryside to explore in every direction.

  • Within a few minutes walk of the town and pubs, church, art galleries and walks within Dartmoor National Park, a very comfortable bed, shower and room with views of the moors. An information library on a small book shelf. The garden was full of herbs abd birds in the jasmine. Perfect for a one night or longer stay and good value. I was even allowed to arrive early. Easy parking on the road outside.

  • Cat was an amazing host. I really enjoyed my stay. The room was clean and quiet and tea making facilities and water provided. Breakfast was perfect; cereal, toast, fruit, coffee etc. I felt really welcome and immediately warmed to Cat who treated me more like a visiting friend than a stranger. I would definitely visit again.

A beautifully located open plan rustic barn conversion on a farm, set on the very edge of Dartmoor with The Mariner's way and The Two Moors way crossing in the farm yard. I provide a twin room only (it is not the whole house as I live here) with large private bathroom next door to the room. Dogs are allowed at a small extra charge as well as breakfast and sometimes supper on request also for an extra charge. Perfect for hikers, cyclists, yogis and nature lovers. Hope to meet you soon!
The room is small but the bathroom is large. Feel free to put a small amount of food in my fridge if you are hiking or for snacks
Chagford with its delightful cafes, shops and pubs is only 3 miles away and if you're feeling energetic can be walked to directly over Meldon Hill where a 360 degree view can be seen at the top of of Devon and Dartmoor

  • I had a wonderful 3-day stay at Kelly’s house. My room was clean and comfortable with a nice bed, tea and coffee making facilities and a few extra touches to make you feel extra special. The bathroom and shower were clean and high quality (instant hot shower, big soft towels). Kelly is a fantastic and friendly host and was there for any questions or needs I had and more. I also felt very welcomed by her friendly dog, who is also easily avoided if you aren’t fussed on dogs. The breakfast was amazing and beautifully presented with fresh berries and fruit, a croissant and tea/coffee among other things. This stay was beyond my expectations and I would 100% recommend it and stay again.
