My place is small, cozy, unique, clean and comfortable within walking distance to quaint downtown areas. While it does have sleeping accomodation for up to 5 guests, that is a tight fit, with a queen-sized futon and small sofa bed in the living room and a queen-sized bed in the single bedroom. The bedroom is curtained off for privacy. It is most comfortable for 2-3 travelers.
Peaceful, tranquil getaway close to Death Valley National Park.It is most comfortable for 2-3 travelers. You are welcome to build a fire in the firepit and enjoy staying put to relax and stargaze. I stock firewood weekly, however, sometimes it gets used up so, if you are really looking forward to a fire, please consider buying firewood en route. Also, the attached greenhouse gives protection from the sun and wind, providing a place to dine and relax.
Eclectic, quiet, simple pleasures such as no traffic, desert strolls, stargazing and sitting outside by the fire.

  • Great place, amazing views!

    Deepikaa2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • I really loved this place and the town Highly recommend as a place to stay if traveling to death valley.. It is just on the other side of death valley. I saw some AMAZING views on that drive that I wouldn't have if I wasn't heading to Lone Pine. I also stopped to get dinner at their cute downtown strip at seasons which was in the hosts guidebook. Really cute comfortable place and I would go again!

    Michelle2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location for Death Valley and Mt. Whitney excursions if you’re trying to go for both. The cabin is in a quiet and secluded area and perfect for 2 people. The couch will fold out to accommodate 1-2 more if needed. Kitchen is fully equipped and the bathroom is also good. The only downside was the hot water situation - it seems to be just enough for a real quick shower for two people. It’s workable if you shower very fast. Overall, a great place to stay!

    Mardan2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time visiting Eastern Sierra staying at Kevin's cabin. Everything was great about the place.

Pahrump. It is a small town, safe and quiet. It is ideal place to go outside at night and see the stars. People are so friendly and helpful when you are in need. It is more like a ranch town. We have several vineyards and wineries. We have golf courses. We have banks, Home Depot, Smith's, Walmart and supermarkets and lots of Family Dollar stores.
  • We did truly love our stay. Easy access to Death Valley, Pahrump is a great little town. The view just walking outside is stunning. We hope to come back soon!! The hosts communicated quickly and easily. The kitchen isn’t fully stocked with the necessary supplies to make it a properly functioning kitchen i.e there were no baking supplies and minimal choices for utensils. The kitchen supplies was also put away dirty, unsure of that’s a host issue or if the guests before us didn’t care for things properly before they left. Some lightbulbs were out and some switches didn’t work at all but overall, we would love to come back and stay soon!!

Enjoy privacy and soothing views of the forest from this cabin in Sequoia Crest. Wander down easy trails among giant sequoias, climb 9115' Jordan Peak or enjoy Poppy Lake. Sequoia Crest is surrounded by the Giant Sequoia National Monument located in the Alder Creek Grove of Giant Sequoias. It is home to the Stagg Tree the 4th largest tree in the world. Sequoia National Park is a three hour drive. Price is for two guests. Each additional is $15 a night Fri. and Sat. are $210. Co tax included.
Our cabin home has a classic vaulted ceiling, with a wall of windows looking into the forest of evergreens. Lower level den with TV. We are a three hour drive from Sequoia/Kings' Canyon national parks. Guests are able to enjoy the entire cabin. If you don't bring your groceries from home shop in Porterville. The closest restaurants are 20 minutes or more away. Due to our wilderness location your cell phone probably won't work. The cabin has a land line phone and Spectrum TV and internet. We may meet guests when they arrive to answer questions, but will be heading to our home on the coast that day. You can call us if you have additional questions. Sequoia Crest (elevation 6800') is a unique community of private homes (103) within the Alder Creek Giant Sequoia Grove, home of the 5th largest tree in the world (Alonzo Stagg Tree). Sequoia Crest is surrounded by the Giant Sequoia National Monument. Private Poppy Lake is 1/2 mile away. Trails lead to Hossack Meadow, Alder Creek & the Jordan Peak trail. We are not near Sequoia or Kings Canyon national parks. You must use your own vehicle to get there. There are miles of trails to walk and hike. Bring your snow shoes or cross country skis in winter. The cabin key will be found in a combo lock box, located on the railing opposite the garage side-door. After you book, we'll email the code. We will not be at the cabin, but are just a phone call away. There are 103 cabins, but only 18 full time residents in Sequoia Crest. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Only a few cabins are rented out, so most people you may meet will be cabin owners. You'll need your car to get there and your legs to hike. If you walk the 2 mile loop around Sequoia Crest's paved streets at sunset, you'll see Porterville's lights 6000' down in the San Joaquin Valley. Just walking (or driving) the paved streets of Sequoia Crest, you'll see many giant sequoias. Please be respectful of private property, especially near and around the giant sequoias, as we have had some vandalism in the forest lately.
The neighborhood is peaceful & friendly. Due to fire danger we do not have a BBQ. We do have a 'George Foreman Grilling Machine'. We also have a 'Mr. Coffee', toaster, microwave, coffee grinder, 12" electric frying pan, Oster blender, crock pot, waffle maker, electric mixer and a food processor.
  • Cozy, private and quiet.

  • This place is a gem! Lawrence designed the whole house himself with sustainability in mind! Lawrence was extremely accommodating and made us feel right at home! It gets a little chilly in the winter so bring an extra sweater and fluffy socks :) Lawrence also personalized some recommendations for us! The night sky’s from this place was magical and we wouldn’t hesitate to come back and stay for longer next time!

Offered here is a gorgeous modern retreat situated amidst three acres of rock spires, huge boulders and stunning views. Across the street is open space and hiking trails where you can wander and explore for hours. It's a magical place with artistic flare and utter serenity, close to Mt. Whitney. The house offers sprawling decks, Wi-Fi, Wolf range, gas BBQ and gas fire pit.
The house is a pristine prefab modern home on three secluded acres set amidst rock spires and huge boulders from the Jurassic, between 140-200 million years ago. It's located at 4,600' elevation where spectacular desert meets the eastern escarpment of the Sierra Nevada. The elegance and comfort you'll find inside make for a welcome contrast to the rugged surroundings. Creature comforts include a new heating and A/C system and electric fireplace. All glass is double-pane. The home is wrapped by a sprawling deck - every room has a sliding door leading outside, so indoor and outdoor living flow together. The flooring is hardwood floors except in the bedrooms, and the deck is made of a soft synthetic material that you can walk on in bare feet. The bedrooms and living areas are well-appointed with stylish furniture. The kitchen has a Wolf range, dishwasher, microwave and coffeemaker and French press. There's a separate laundry room with washer and dryer. Outside features a gas fire pit and built-in gas BBQ. The home has free WI-FI and a large-screen TV with a Roku device for Netflix or Amazon streaming, and a collection of DVD's (cable TV isn't available in Lone Pine). As you look out from any room your gaze will be captivated by magnificent rocks and towering mountains - the Inyos to the east and Sierra to the west. Across the street is parkland. There's fishing withing a 5 minute drive. Whitney Portal is only 20 minutes away. Some of the most beautiful rock formations are those on and around the property. From the front deck you see Whale Rock, a spire that looks like a breaching whale. At the edge of the rear deck you’re standing beneath Massive Rock, an 80-foot monolith. Stroll up the hill and you can sit on a boulder and look at Mt. Whitney, highest point in the 48 states.
Amazing location in the Alabama Hills above Lone Pine. Across the street from parkland. Great trout fishing within five minutes. Only 15 minutes from Whitney Portal - perfect base camp for a mountain trip. Close to Movie Flat, where hundreds of films were made.
  • Doug is an amazing host! Quickly answers questions and gives great local tips for things to do/see. His place is one of the most thoughtful Airbnb’s we’ve experienced. The scenery is absolutely amazing and amidst these trying times in our country, during COVID-19 my husband and I were able to feel like we could get away and still feel safe.

    Trish2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Dougs place was not only beautiful, but it’s location in the rock formations was a beautiful back drop for the perfect place for our family of 5. It was very clean, open, bright, and comfortable. It was also nicely decorated with views from every room. The wrap around deck was perfect to enjoy the views of both the Inyo and Sierra Nevada Mtns., along with the amazing rock formations. The deck was safe enough to let our 2 yr old twins to run around and we could step off the deck and let the kids climb the boulders. We felt it was less like an Airbnb and more like a friends home. Everything was well stocked from kitchen essentials to extra towels. The communication with Doug was prompt and he had great recommendations. We feel lucky to have found this place!

    Krista2020-03-15T00:00:00Z

  • This is a great house...very clean, very comfortable and in a spectacular setting. The house is across the road from a really gorgeous hike, and very close to town. The location is very private and very beautiful. And Doug was very responsive and helpful. We loved it!

    Mark2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described. We expect to return here - though it tends to be booked much of the time.

    Brian2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Dougs place will knock your socks off. Views of the Eastern Sierras from the property make this a brilliant stay. House is spotless and we used the well-equipped kitchen to make every meal during our time here. Late afternoon snacks by the fire pit watching the sunset were followed by dinner in the dining space with stunning boulder views. The bathtub in the master suite with skylight & views a must-do. We went to the local visitors center and were helped by a very knowledgeable guide-hiker—there is a great walk in the Alabama Hills a short drive from the house. Amazing country. We hope to come back to Doug’s place!

My place is a great jumping off place for Death Valley and places to dine. You’ll love my place because of privacy, fenced yard, clean and cozy, front deck to have coffee or cocktails while enjoying the peaceful desert. It is just miles from Rhyolite ghost town, Death Valley, and more.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and is most comfortable for 2 to 3 guests but will sleep up to 4.
My place is small cozy and unique within walking distance to a quaint downtown area. The sleeping accommodations are most comfortable for 2 to 3 people but will sleep up to 4 people as there is a futon in the front room. There is a courtesy kitchen including coffee pot, toaster oven, microwave, mini-fridge and rice cooker are provided for your convenience as well as a compact bathroom.
Stargazing, desert strolls, burro watching and relaxing
  • Small town but a great, convenient location for accessing both ends of Death Valley. Most definitely recommend staying here! Easy to find and check in, very clean space, and you can tell the host really cares and goes above and beyond. She had snacks, coffee, shampoos, toothpaste, towels, extra blankets and pillows, etc etc ready and waiting for us! Will plan to stay for my next Death Valley trip.

    Hayley2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Nice space just outside of the national park. Drive was scenic but it takes about 30 mins to the visitor center. Thoughtful touches throughout the space. Wonderful host.

    Michelle2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice accommodation, 45 minutes - 1 hour from the Death Valley. Very calm and relaxing, I advise you to take a ride to the "saloon" on main street which is worth the detour.

  • My husband and I enjoyed our stay in Beatty, NV at Rebecca’s place- the space was private and well kept with a fenced in yard that was great for our dog. There were lots of thoughtful touches and amenities like coffee and snacks, and extra toothbrushes (new in the package) in case we had forgotten to pack them. The location was nice for accessing Death Valley National Park. Fun local places to try for dinner are the Sourdough Saloon and Happy Burro Chili and Beer. We recommend this place to anyone traveling in the area for sure!

    Amanda2020-03-14T00:00:00Z

I am located between Las Vegas & Death Valley. I'm a retired nurse and understand and use Universal precautions. I am very much into infection control. That is why you have a private refer. There is Free Safe parking in front. Each RM has new paint & linens. Also, a Refer, 2 chairs, luggage bench, TV & Desk. Maps, Trip & dining Info available. I offer baked Goods, Coffee & Juice. The RM RATE only allows for Kitchen food prep, MW & Toaster. I greet you then retire to my Suite.. Thanks KC
This bedroom is being decorated. I will provide picture updates. Your room has luggage racks, new ceiling fan with light computer desk, a refrigerator and 2 chairs. There are two rooms than can be booked. So, also, look for Rm#1-Close Location to Death Valley & Front Sight. The RM #1 has a clean Victorian look as well.
I am right on the road to the Death Valley border near the town of Shoshone. There are many places to eat down the street. The least expensive gas is across the street from the front of my house on Highway 372.
  • Everything was fantastic! Recommend the stay to anyone!

  • If you’re planning a trip to Death Valley look no further! After a long drive from SD nothing was sweeter than amazing hospitality, a super warm welcome, a hot shower, and the coziest bed! KC is a newly retired hospice nurse who has the kindest heart and definitely a passion to care for others! KC loves loves Death Valley, she has an immense knowledge of the park and definitely is such a resource when planning your trip. Staying with KC felt more like staying with family than an AirBnB. Thank you so much for making my trip so special and for all the thoughtful touches (ginger tea, breakfast, juice, and a toothbrush). If I come back to Death Valley I know where I’ll be staying. Miss this sweet soul already! KC I made it to: Artists Palette, Zabriskie’s Point, Mosaic Canyon, Badwater Basin, Mesquite Sand Flats, Darwin Falls, Salt Creek and Golden Canyon! Also the Delights Hot Springs was AMAZING :) Thanks for all the helpful tips my fellow Virgo XOXOX

  • This was an excellent stay. KC is wonderfully welcoming and invested in her guests’ stays and experiences in the local area. Her place is one of the best prepared for Airbnb guests I have seen - labelling is clear, all the necessary amenities are available (and more!), the mattress was extremely comfortable and her place immaculately clean in general. We will be really keen to return again in future. KC, many thanks for your efforts.

Robert was helpful in getting us settled in and the cottage was cozy, clean, quaint and quiet. It has a large yard with plenty of room for play! So happy we found this and we will definitely be back.

I'm located between Las Vegas & Death Valley. There is Free Safe parking. I am a retired nurse and know how to use Universal Precautions. I am totally about infection control. That is why all my guests have their own refers. Your Rm has a private refer, 2 chairs, TV & Desk & luggage bench. I have Maps, Trip & Dining Info. I provide Baked Goods, Coffee & juice. The RM "RATE" only allows for Kitchen food Prep, Microwave & Toaster. I greet you then retire to my room for your privacy. Thanks
New Full size raised bed, & some kitchen privileges. The Bedroom is equipped with TV, WIFI, closet, desk, d so chair, lighter mirror, rocking chair and bench for luggage, ( big or small). Sometimes you will share the bathroom with guests in the other room. This is rare that I book them out at the same time. The seasonal bookings require it. The room is newly painted and people seem to really enjoy the rocking chairs on the front porch. All the linens are washed and dried in the sunshine. They smell very fresh. I have just put new Air conditioning & Heating in the whole house. Super quiet.
A quiet neighborhood. The house is on a quarter acre and is fenced all the way around. Is near all major highways to Death Valley, Las Vegas, and Front Sight. Walmart and three other grocery stores are only a three minute drive and so are our downtown Casinos and Restaurants.
  • If we could give Kc a higher rating than a 5, we would! She greeted us with a smile, and her dog will wave at you when you come in. Kc is very knowledgeable about the area and will tell you the best places to see in Death Valley. The room is very clean and comfortable. Kc will give you all the privacy that you want, but she was such an interesting person to talk to, we chatted with her over dinner. She really puts her guests' needs as top priority. If you ask me, her place is the only place to stay in the area!

    Ashley And Samantha2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • I initially saw the good reviews but nothing prepared me for how great this stay was! Kc did an amazing job at making me feel comfortable and giving me a ton of information on the Park! I loved the style and the little touches she does with everything. Would definitely stay again! 5/5!

    Jonathan2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • 5/5 on all aspects! This was my first time in Death Valley and it was great location and Kc had some many great tips and insight into the park. It was the perfect place to crash after being in the hot sun all day!

    Laura2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Kc truly went above and beyond. This was by far the best Airbnb experience we have ever had. Upon arriving, she gave us a tour of the home and made us feel incredibly welcome. It was a shared space but she made it so easy to determine what was our space- she even had a separate kitchen area with a coffee maker that was already set up and all you had to do was press “go”. She put together an entire binder with maps of Death Valley National Park and was able to suggest activities and routes (along with restaurants and more local activities) for us since she is a tour guide. It is also only about a 45-60 minute drive to the park, for a fraction of the cost. She provided a small breakfast in the morning. Our room was very cozy and she had extra blankets available for us. Her outdoor space was amazing too- we definitely would have stayed up stargazing if it was warmer. We also enjoyed her sweet little dog, Tater. We were so impressed and will definitely stay here again if we return to Death Valley. We can’t recommend or thank her enough!

    Clara2020-03-15T00:00:00Z

  • We stayed with Lynn on our trip to Death Valley. Lynn is the most warm and helpful Airbnb host I have stayed with. She was there to greet us even through we arrived pretty late. The bed is extremely comfortable. Breakfast was yummy. The night sky of Pahrump is filled with stars!!! Lynn also had recommendations to Death Valley on the ready, which is extremely helpful. I highly recommend staying with Grandma Lynn when you're in the area.

  • Grandma Lynn is so kind and lovely. The room was very fantastic. You can find anything you need in the room. The bed is so comfortable, so that we had a very good dream. The bathroom is very clean. She thoughtfully prepared tips of Death valley park. She even prepared our breakfast to us, this is the first time to enjoy local breakfast. Please don't hesitate to choose here as your stay.

  • location, location, location! This cabin is in the park so there is NO traffic to get there. The views are amazing and the touch of the fire place and hot tub made it feel like a relaxing vacation. House offers full kitchen which was a great time and money saver. The driveway is steep, if you are traveling in the winter, be wary of snow.

  • Had a great time at this place, house was very clean, well decorated and felt very comfortable. Location is literally as good as it gets, you’re in the park and the views are amazing. Hot tub, fire pit, bbq, I mean it’s got it all. My only thing about the house is there’s a downstairs balcony that seems to only be accessible for someone renting another property elsewhere. I think it’s just good to know of that before you’re sitting out on the balcony in the middle of the night, hear some footsteps below ya and freak out haha (Didn’t happen to me) but otherwise if you’re going to Sequoia, this is for sure the place to stay. My girlfriend and I had a hard time leaving to explore cause we just wanted to hang there!

  • This place was amazing! Great location that was close to town if you needed anything but far enough away that you felt secluded in the park. The views from the back deck and hot tub made the place—perfect for unwinding after a day of hiking in the park.

  • Our stay at this home was wonderful for us and our 3 pups! Check in and check out instructions were clear and easy to follow. The home was cozy and comfortable and having coffee available was great! I LOVED the heated toilet seat. It was a great location for access to prime trails and points of interest within Sequoia and Three Rivers town was quaint and sweet. The view was beautiful and we had perfect weather mid-October!

My place is close to great views and restaurants and dining. You’ll love my place because of privacy, fenced yard, clean and cozy, front deck to have coffee or cocktails while enjoying the peaceful desert. It is just miles from Rhyolite ghost town, Death Valley, hot springs and more.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), big groups, and furry friends (pets).
Our space is 8 miles to the entrance to Death Valley through Daylight Pass. You can enjoy breathtaking stargazing due to the lack of light pollution. It is quiet and peaceful, lending itself to walking, hiking and solitude.
Our neighborhood is eclectic and peaceful. You will love that you can go for long walks at sunset or sunrise and have clean air, quiet, and little traffic. Be advised that there are wild burros that wander around town. They are harmless, but not very traffic-savvy and they don't wear reflectors, so be on the lookout!
  • Thank you Andrea. This is a gem of a place. Amazing location, incredibly well designed home with lots of really useful touches. Very clean and quiet and basically all I ever want from an Airbnb. We would love to come back and highly recommend

  • Andrea's house was very comfortable and spotless clean. It is very convenient for those visiting Death Valley. The house has an old style-family vibe, it is very cozy with plenty of space. The only small and not significant downside (at least for us) was not having internet reception. Wifi worked for a couple hours at the very beginning and then it just went away. No big deal for us though. Thank you Andrea!

  • perfect place to stay if you’re looking to explore Death Valley! 10 mins from the park entrance and the town of Beatty is adorable. It has history, food options (mostly diners), a gas station/food mart open 24/7, and a dollar general. [side note: if you have food intolerances i recommend bringing some of your own food to cook]. The airbnb itself feels like a home away from home! very tidy, lots of extra blankets / pillows, shampoo/conditioner/body soap provided in the bathroom, lots of condiment options in the kitchen as well as coffee and tea. also fully stocked with utensils and pots/pans/plates/bowls. it’s the little additions like these that make a stay go that much more smoothly! thanks again :)

  • Very comfy location. Home was quiet, clean, and in a very safe location. Sadly no burros during our visit. You do share the home with other visitors but they have their own entrance and can hardly be heard. Internet kept disconnecting so was a little frustrating. Tv worked just fine. There was lots of thoughtful touches in the kitchen.

A little house deep in the desert. A wonderful design house in the middle of nowhere, 20 miles off the Death Valley National Park boundaries, with 80 acres of land and unobstructed views to the desert and the mountains. The minimum stay is TWO (2) days.
The site is an isolated piece of land in the Nevada High Desert near Scotty’s Junction and is far from any infrastructure or for that matter any neighbor. This vacation home in the middle of an isolated stretch of high desert, designed by Peter Strzebniok (nottoscale, San Francisco) incorporates the vistas by visually expanding into the surrounding landscape, providing stunning views, while also making the desert part of the interiors – merging the inside with the outside. The house itself measures 1,200 sf, has 3 bedrooms, two bathrooms, an office, a storage and utility room as well as a large open kitchen, dining room, living room area that can extend onto the deck when the large sliding doors are opened. A large 900 sf deck with a sunken-in hot tub connects the two building modules while creating a transition zone between the inside and outside that through the use of large full height glass sliding doors can be completely opened so that the outside and inside of the building seamlessly merge if one desires so. The building sits on a large concrete plinth elevating the building above the desert floor so that it appears to float above the ground while lifting it out of the flash-flood water level. Passive cooling concepts such as cross and stack ventilation, shading, building orientation were used throughout the project. The house is oriented in such a way as to take advantage of prevailing winds that, through cross and stack ventilation, maintain a comfortable temperature in the house, avoiding the need for an highly energy intensive air conditioning system. The windows facing south are shaded by the large trellis on the deck while all the bedroom windows are facing north in order to prevent heat-gain. The large crawlspace under the house double functions as storage space as well as a climate buffer as it is filled with gravel that helps to maintain a low average temperature below the house throughout the year. *** “In the High Nevada Desert, Sleeping in Star-Surround” By JOYCE WADLER The New York Times, Aug. 3, 2011 NEIGHBORS are few out here in the high desert of Nevada, where Fabrizio Rondolino, an Italian journalist, built his dream home. There was a fellow one lot over who, after reportedly hearing instructions from above, built a chapel. But possibly the voice subsequently hollered down, “Just kidding!” for while the chapel remains, the owner’s trailer is gone. There is also the Shady Lady Ranch, a bordello (legal in these parts) about seven miles down the road. Being an outgoing and friendly sort, Mr. Rondolino took his wife and two daughters, both under 21 at the time, to say hello, soon after they bought their land a few years ago. “I was locking the car, and my wife and two girls ring the bell,” Mr. Rondolino remembers. “And the guy opened the door, and they saw two girls and a lady.” The man seemed to think they were looking for a job, and he told them several times that no under-age girls were allowed in the house. Then Mr. Rondolino arrived and informed him they were the new neighbors. The man wasn’t very friendly, Mr. Rondolino recalls. He said, “Good luck,” and that was that. But bordellos and mystics are not the first thing an Easterner wants to know about after arriving on this stretch of land 150 miles north of Las Vegas, not far from Death Valley, on a scorching summer day. The first thing one wants to know is whether there are rattlesnakes. The answer, from Peter Strzebniok, the architect who built this house and is also visiting on this day: no, it is too hot. Rattlesnakes prefer the shade. The next question — the big one — is for the owner: Why would he build a house in the middle of the scorching nowhere? It is not an unexpected question. Mr. Rondolino, who arrived earlier the same day from his home in Rome, with his wife, Simona Ercolani; their daughters, Francesca, 23, and Bianca, 17; and his parents, Gianni and Lina Rondolino, cheerfully interrupts, as it is one he has heard countless times. “Why, why, why, why, why?” he asks, his face full of happiness, like a man who has been reunited with a true love after a long time apart. “It all started with ‘Zabriskie Point,’ ” he says, referring to the Antonioni film about 1960s counterculture. “Simona’s father worked on that movie — he was chief electrician back in 1969. ‘Zabriskie Point’ was kind of a mythical occasion for him. It is set in Death Valley; part of it was shot at Zabriskie Point.” “Anyway, we came here for the first time 17, 18 years ago, and we fell deeply in love with Death Valley, so we keep coming,” continues Mr. Rondolino, who is 51 and speaks English fluently. “And then we decided, why not build?” “My father has the Alzheimer’s for 13 years,” says Ms. Ercolani, who is 47 and speaks English less fluently than her husband. “When he died, the last words he remembered was ‘Zabriskie Point.’ Not me, not my daughters, not my mother. Only ‘Zabriskie Point.’ ” She adds: “When my father died, we take the airplane here to honor my father and just walk, and he” — meaning Mr. Rondolino — “says, ‘It’s a beautiful place, we can build something.’ And joking, I say, ‘Sure.’ ” Speaking of her husband, we have just noticed he has a small blue “S” tattooed on his hand in the tender tissue between thumb and forefinger. What’s that about? “We had a small troubled period,” Ms. Ercolani says. “So after we build the house, I marked my husband.” Does the desert attract those with interesting stories? Or is it just that in the desert one has time to listen to them? Nye County, where Mr. Rondolino and Ms. Ercolani built their house, is so wide open that driving along Highway 95 from Las Vegas one can easily find oneself doing 90 miles an hour. In Beatty, some 30 miles away, there are a number of intriguing characters: a cowboy re-enactor at the Sourdough Saloon who will tell you about his favorite hat and the days he really did cowboy (that’s a verb in these parts); the auto engineers and drivers testing prototype vehicles in Death Valley, which are often covered in plastic camouflage to hide their design from snooping photographers; the owners of the Shady Lady Ranch, who brought in a man for their female customers, after successfully challenging the Nevada law forbidding male prostitution (the man, who gave an interview to The New York Post in which he compared himself to Rosa Parks and Mahatma Gandhi, is no longer there). Then there is the story of Mr. Rondolino and Ms. Ercolani, aficionados of the American desert. On this summer afternoon, they are playing Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan, and welcoming guests, as the temperature in their house, which has no air-conditioning, tops out at 94 degrees. Mr. Rondolino, whose father is a cinema professor, is a novelist and press agent as well as a journalist, and was once a spokesman for the former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema. Ms. Ercolani is a television producer. The couple, who have both been married before, have visited many deserts over the years: the Simpson in Australia, the Gobi in Mongolia, the Atacama in South America. But about 10 years ago, when they were going through a rough patch romantically, the desert played a major role in their lives. Mr. Rondolino had had an affair and moved out of the house, and there were, he says, a lot of tears on both sides. During this “crisis” in their marriage, they spent a few weeks in Death Valley. “We had a kind of emotional breakdown in a place ironically called Last Chance Mountain,” Mr. Rondolino says. “But luckily, this was not our last chance. We came back to Italy, and after a couple of months we were together again. And we decided to celebrate with a week at Furnace Creek Ranch.” In 2005, the couple bought 40 acres here, for $70,000. A year later, when they brought their daughters to see the land, Ms. Ercolani buried her wedding ring under some rocks on the property. Why? Ms. Ercolani explains in Italian, and one of her daughters translates: “She buried her wedding ring under the rocks because we are locked in this place, because they lost themselves here and found themselves here. It’s a symbol of their love. When she buried the ring, she buried the sad part.” Mr. Rondolino came across the work of Peter Strzebniok (pronounced Cheb-nee-ah), a young German architect living in San Francisco, whose firm, nottoscale, had created an affordable prefabricated house. Architect and client never met or even spoke on the phone during the planning, construction and furnishing of the desert home — all the planning was done by e-mail. (They met for the first time on the day the architect and his wife, Deborah Wong, traveled out to the house with this reporter.) Mr. Rondolino and Ms. Ercolani visited the site only once during construction, when the interiors were not yet finished. Now, sitting in one of the bedrooms, the couple acknowledge that this is unusual, but they say they had no fears. The architect was European, and they had a shared sensibility. The notion of a totally prefabricated home was considered but rejected — it would have been too expensive to transport. Instead, sections of the house were manufactured five hours away, in Reno, and brought to the site. The original estimate of $250,000 for the approximately 1,200-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom house, with an office and a spring-fed hot tub on the deck, proved to be too low. The final cost was $290,000. (Much of the reason had to do with problems with a series of contractors, one of whom spent time digging for gold instead of working.) Color is used sparingly here, as accents: green bathroom tiles that recall the surrounding sagebrush, touches of red from the bar stools to suggest the heat of the desert. Mr. Strzebniok furnished the house down to the salt shakers, relying heavily on Ikea in the bedrooms and on CB2 (the table) and Design Within Reach (the chairs) in the dining room. When he was quoted $6,000 for furniture delivery, he rented a U-Haul and made two trips himself, picking the furniture up in San Francisco. And before Mr. Rondolino and Ms. Ercolani visited the finished house for the first time last Christmas, Mr. Strzebniok stocked it with food, as well as with bottles of Campari and Pernod. “He is the perfect husband, the opposite of me,” Mr. Rondolino teases. “I’m not a practical man, but I appreciate practical men.” To the reporter from the East, there is one thing that seems to be missing. The tub set into the deck is deliciously cooling, but why didn’t they build a full-size pool? “You can’t have a pool in the middle of the desert,” Mr. Rondolino says. But Palm Springs is full of pools. “Palm Springs is for Hollywood stars,” he says. “There is air-conditioning also in the main street. I don’t like this kind of too-nice, civilized desert. To me, there is not enough desert.” They spent a week in the house over Christmas. Was it everything they hoped? “When you stay here in the night, you can see the stars move,” Ms. Ercolani says, referring to the experience of sleeping in a bedroom with a floor-to-ceiling glass corner and a skylight. Her husband adds: “I had the sensation of being on a spaceship. This winter, we had a really strong wind one night — the house was almost shaking. And there were millions, billions of stars from everywhere, you were completely surrounded by the stars down to the horizon, which in the cities or countryside you are not. Normally you see the stars above you, not around you. Yes, it was like a spaceship.”
Basically, this house is for desert lovers. If you are reading this listing, you already know what I mean ;)
  • If you want to feel solitude and experience the desert this is a great place to do that. The house is nicely designed and sits on teh flats on the desert in a quiet area. Russ was great for check in. Fabrizio's library is meaningful to the location and i got introduced to a writer that I previously was not aware of. The hot tub in the morning when it as cold outside was a great way to watch the sunrise.

  • A great and modern place to stay to visit the Death Valley.

    Giovanni2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Sweeping views in every direction. The entrance to the park that is said to be ten minutes away is closed and had been for years, so staying here will mean over an hour trip to get into Death Valley. But comfortable and lovely place!

  • There is no place on earth that has this immediate contact with your soul.

    Paul2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house is beautiful and the location is amazing. We used it as a base for Death Valley and would love to have stayed longer. The hot tub under the stars was a treat too!

    Adrian2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is every bit as fantastic as it seems, and it’s made exponentially more special by the wonderful caretaker, Russ. If you’re looking for a weekend of true solitude and an eerie, yet satisfying peace, look no further. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many stars in my life.

    Anubhav2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such an incredible spot and communication, check in and check out could not have been better! Can not wait to visit again.

    Alex2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This modern, well kept cabin is small but the space is utilized wisely and it was easy and comfortable to spend a week there. Very clean throughout, and perfect for a couple. The upstairs loft area does have two additional beds but the ceiling is low so probably good for kids rather than adults. The location is right in the town of Beatty, NV which is close to the entrance to Death Valley NP. We hiked there for 6 days and the drive from the cabin going into the park was gorgeous itself. Ann was a very attentive host and easy to communicate with. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks, Ann, for a great place to call home for a week!

    Bonny2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Ann was great at communicating and it was a shame that we were only able to stay one night. The place was sparkling clean with plenty of towels and bathroom essentials. The beds were very comfortable. Check in was amazingly easy and the price light was left on to welcome us. One of those amazing AirBnBs! Thanks Ann

    Mike2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Well worth staying and so close to Death Valley National park.

    Craig2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • House is great! For being a tiny space, the vaulted ceiling in the main entrance really make sure t feel like the perfect size for a small group! Loved the small touches- like having common items like coffee, creamer, syrup, etc as well as wine for our first night! Also loved how thoughtful Ann was- she provided books on Death Valley for us! Would definitely recommend this to other travelers!

    Alexandra2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • a great stay for a visit to Desert Valley National Park!

    Mike2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The unit was easy to find and very tidy. Beatty is a quiet town which was a nice change from being in Vegas the week prior. After a very cozy night of sleep, we explored nearby Rhyolite and then ventured in to Death Valley. Excellent experience!

World-class 360 degree views, in this recently renovated home on the rim of the Alabama Hills! Incredible sunrises and sunsets every day. Hummingbirds, quail and jackrabbits abound. A beautiful swimming and fishing pond just below. Endless trails and walking/climbing opportunities in the nearby boulder formations; the property borders the new National Scenic Area. Amazing bird watching from the multiple cabin decks. Equally close to Horseshoe Meadows, Lone Pine, and Whitney portal.
Access to upstairs bedrooms is by staircase.
The Indian Springs subdivision consists of about two dozen scattered ranch-style estates.
  • We really enjoyed spending a night in this great chalet. The environment is fantastic, the silence and the rocks inspired us. The chalet is furnished with love, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and a great view from the balconies. The nearest town is easy to reach by car. We had a great stay. The people were very helpful and friendly. If we are to be in this area again, we will be happy to book this AirBnB again.

A great year round comfortable one bedroom (large) house with new furniture and beds and a cozy wood stove. Large yard and horse pasture. It is perfect for anyone wanting to explore the Sierra's. Sleeps 6, 2 queen beds and 1 queen rollout sofa.
This rental is a real bargain with a very large kitchen that is always the social and gathering spot! It also has a very large yard for recreational equipment. The best part is that it is in the Owens Valley, which is surrounded by the mountains that are accessible within 20 minutes!
I grew up in this neighborhood. It is always great to return from my travels to clean air, water and mountains. It is my sanctuary and yours with your stay.
  • Paul was a great host and his property was the perfect combination of rustic cabin feel but with enough modern amenities for a pleasant, relaxed stay. It was an ideal location for a bouldering base camp with less than ten minute drives to Happies/Sads parking and quick trips into town for supplies. I also enjoyed meeting/conversing with Paul and appreciated the personal attention he gives to his property and visitors - a very 'airbnb' experience rather than just a generic hotel you show up to for the night. I'll definitely try to stay here again next time I visit Bishop. Thanks Paul!

    Nate2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Paul's place is awesome! I was looking for a quiet, mellow place that was also good to host a few local friends for meals, and it was perfect. He's also a wealth of knowledge about Payahuunadü, the valley Bishop is in, and the various local communities, including the Nüümü / Paiute community. I feel lucky to have stayed there and recommend it to anyone.

    Charis2020-02-27T00:00:00Z

This two bedroom one bath genuine log cabin is located in the lower Pier Point area of Camp Nelson. The views of the mountains and sky are spectacular in this cabin with very large decks. This cabin was built in the early 70`s and has been updated .Things to do in Camp Nelson:The Nelson Trail just at the end of Nelson Dr. One of the largest sequoia groves along the Tule river. Also The Trail of 100 Giants in Ponderosa, CA just up the 190. The Stagg Tree in Sequoia Crest. Wifi at cafe in Pondo
Authentic log cabin with cozy wood burning stove heats the cabin great ! I removed the flue on the fire stove because some guests had no clue to open it to let smoke flow. Also a back up portable propane Mr. heater is available for the bedroom. This is an all electric cabin so there is no dangerous gases. Please don't forget to bring your wood! The Camp Nelson area has 48 Giant Sequoia Groves, endless trails and other outdoor activities. Easy access during winter. Instructions provided
Walking distance to the Pierpoint Springs Cafe and Bar with free WIFI great food and bands on weekends. Temporarily closed at this time until May 2018 so head over to The Tavern for great food and drinks. Spectacular Mountain views from the picture window and very large deck with a large set of patio furniture. Forest adjacent, walking distance to town and the river stocked with Golden Trout among The Giant Sequoias. The Nelson Trail is just up the street for hiking, horse back riding and mountain biking. Famous for downhill bike runs going right through Giant Sequoias. The Pack Station provides horse back rides to the Kern River for Golden Trout Fishing. Or hike from the pack station for a day hike to the Kern river bridge in the Golden Trout Wilderness.. Visit The Stagg Tree in Sequoia Crest the third largest , Dome rock for meteor shows, The Needles climb to the lookout tower is Fantastic!!! Peppermint Falls in Lower Peppermint Campground SO AMAZING ..And the slides, a natural water slide. This cabin is available in the winter unlike other cabins in the area. Roads are snowplowed everyday after 9AM. but bring chains just in case. There are Cross country Ski Trails and rentals just 15 min up the mountain in Ponderosa and sledding in the meadow are popular in Camp Nelson during the winter months! Take advantage of the low rates and availability I have in the winter!
  • This is the second time I have traveled up from Los Angeles to stay in Leah's cabin, and I'm sure it won't be the last. She has such an amazing place, situated in the beautiful Sequoia National Forest, that is cozy and welcoming and all around peaceful and rejuvenating. Just a twenty-or-so minute drive to the Stagg Tree, the fifth largest tree in the world and an absolutely humbling and breathtaking experience in itself; as well as, many hiking trails and beautifully preserved nature - the location is perfect for any nature lovers and explorers. There is no cell service or wifi, so it is an amazing place to get away from all the noise of the world and just relax with yourself or a loved one, and get some inner peace and relaxation. Leah is very communicative, and finding her place was super easy. If you do need to make a call or use the wifi, there is a general store at the top of her road (a three minute driver or a nice ten minute walk) so it wasn't difficult to find even without GPS. Can't wait to come back and visit again sometime soon!

    Ryan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Pretty rustic in exactly the way I was looking for. Quiet and peaceful. Like the owner says: be sure to printout the instructions before you drive from Porterville and prep for an actual unplug from the internet because cellphones no worky anywhere past Porterville. Also here is a good tip: fill-up your on gas tank before you leave Springville if you plan on driving around a lot (what you do if you want to see that surrounding nature). But yes if you are prepped and want some quiet affordable cabin times with a nice fireplace this place is a solid choice.

  • Debbi’s property is beautiful; they remodeled their home, and the back yard opens up to a gorgeous backdrop of mountains and Debbi’s ranch. Very close driving distance from Buttermilks (great for climbers!). Far enough from central Bishop to provide a real rustic mountain vacation feel. Directions were easy, communication from Debbi was clear, helpful, and accurate. The room itself was spacious and very comfortable; bathroom was clean and offered all the amenities you’d need. When I come back to Bishop, I’d love to stay here again!

Death Valley Base Camp is an artful travel trailer, now permanently posted in Beatty, Nevada, near Death Valley National Park. The trailer has an outdoor area with a firepit, a full size bed, a twin, coffee maker, toaster oven, COLD shower, kettle, and a composting toilet. Not luxury, Base Camp is a simple, comfortable launching point for your adventure. ! Wifi only works sometimes! ! Pipes have started freezing! All are welcome, including animals, though it's small for more than two people.
*We are having issues with frozen pipes. This means the shower and tap don't work. There is still water available in large bottle for drinking and some cleaning.* Base Camp is a travel trailer with a double bed, single bed/couch, kitchen counter with a small coffee pot/toaster oven combo and sink, and a bathroom with a COLD shower, electric kettle to heat water, and composting toilet. It shares the 2 acre property with another AirBnB, though there is plenty of space and privacy. Please be considerate of other guests, especially if you're arriving really late or leaving early. It has it's own outdoor space with a table and a fire pit which we will try to stock with firewood, but you may need to bring your own. Please douse your fires with water from the barrel. *There is wifi, though it does not always work (!) in rural Nevada.
  • Great location (conveniently 45 mins from Furnace Creek Visitor Center, DVNP) and 3 mins from town. First time staying in a camper and so glad I booked this place. As described and quite cozy. Would stay again and recommend!

Welcome to Darwin. We are a remote desert town located in S. Inyo County with a population of 30-40 residents. We are a friendly town with displays of art work all around. We have a post office and land lines, no cell or wifi (you can read about that when you scroll down). Sitting on the porch at Buck's cabin there is desert as far as you can see in every direction. Come bring your bikes and ride out in the desert. The wild flowers are beginning to bloom. Come spend a week and relax at Buck's.
We have a one bed (queen), one full bath, with shower that is wheel chair friendly. All door ways are 36" wide. Fully furnished kitchen with appliances and cook ware. Microwave, toaster oven, four burner stove top, coffee maker, refrigerator. Tiled floors throughout. Radiant heating under the floors with each room having it's own thermostat. It has 6" double insulated walls and double paned windows, which makes the cabin an warm and cozy place to hunker down in the winter. It has cooling fans, cooling system and a wonderful afternoon breeze. Also a beautiful view of the high desert in every direction.
You can buy a postage stamp in Darwin as far a businesses this is the only one. A must is a walk around town to look at the many artistic displays by locals. A chat with a local, everyone is friendly. A morning cup of coffee on the porch in a rocker chair and a view. Their are many old machines and cars located through out town. Enjoy!
  • I’m realizing that I will probably be the last guest to stay at the cabin for a while due to the Corona virus pandemic. That is a shame because I would come back to stay here in a heartbeat. The cabin was spacious, warm, clean & bright & the view from the kitchen sink/covered porch was to die for! Loved all the handcrafted elements, the doors, walls, cabinets & other unique touches. The sunsets, starlight nights & utter peace & quiet save for the odd jackrabbit hopping across the street were glorious. I really enjoyed meeting some of the local artists, you can see their work scattered around town. This place is seriously off the beaten path. No cell or WiFi service & nearest gas/stores are in Lone Pine. Bring all your food with you, the kitchen is amply equipped for cooking.

  • Jody's cabin was perfect for our weekend trip to Death Valley. It's quiet, clean, and cozy. The view of the night sky was beautiful and you can watch the sunset from the porch. Jody was a great host. It was lovely to get away in the little settlement of Darwin and enjoy the high desert.

  • Good Death Valley alternative to expensive hotels. Easy check in and nice interior. As Jody mentions in the description, don’t expect cell service, WiFi, gas or restaurants nearby.

  • Jody’s cabin exceeded our expectations in every way. It was extremely clean, comfortable, and had many personal and cute touches. It was a perfect location for our short stay in Death Valley. I didn’t have the chance to meet Jody, but she was an excellent communicator and prompt with responding to emails. I highly recommend staying at her cabin and I would definitely stay there again.

  • The cabin is cozy, quiet, clean and provides a remote oasis. Jody is a fabulous host and makes sure everything is understood and ready for your visit. I recommend staying in Buck’s and Darwin to explore this unique part of California. Make sure you make time to enjoy the stars and enjoy some meals in this cozy cabin.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Buck’s cabin while visiting Death Valley natl. park and it was great! Darwin is a really cute town and so is this cabin. There’s a full kitchen, heated floors, and lots of charm. The only thing I’d change would be the cell service, this was a little too much disconnect for us! But obviously that’s out of Jody’s control. Anyway, I would definitely stay here again! Great proximity to the park.

  • Jody's place is well situated next to Death Valley. It's the perfect location to stay when visiting the national park. It's spotless and charming. The checkin process was smooth and painless. Jody responded to every question and request very quickly. She provided everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. I hope to have the opportunity to stay at her cabin again in the future. Thank you, Jody!!

  • Buck's cabin is a great place to stay at a base for exploring Death Valley. Only about 30 minutes to Darwin Falls and 90 minutes to Furnace Creek/ heart of the national park. Great star gazing and very quiet place. Very cozy and comfortable. All basic cookware at the house. Loved the heated floors made it a perfect indoor temperature in the winter.

  • Leah’s cabin is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature. The giant sequoias are incredible and the cabin is a great place to base yourself if you’re into hiking and exploring! The cabin is clean and comfortable and we had a great time there!

  • Exactly what we were looking for! 2 days in a legitimate cabin, completely disconnected. Weather got down to the 30s at night but with the fireplace (bring your own wood!) 2 wall mounted heaters and one portable heater, we were never cold ! Just a short drive from the general store, and a couple little bar & grills. The soaking tub is amazing and the water gets soooo amazingly hot. Super comfy bed. Totally stocked kitchen cabinets so bring your own food to cook and there’s plenty of dishes and pots & pans to use. Just a great place for a quick disconnecting trip up the mountains. Leah was great with lots of info prior to arrival.

  • Amazing cabin in the wilderness. Great to get away from modern day challenges and have no Wi-fi or cell signal the whole time. Pier point has a nice cafe and we drive up to Stagg Tree.

  • This cabin/tree-house is adorable and definitely a cozy place for two. Check in was easy and everything was clean. Bring board games and such because there definitely is no service what so ever or TV. The area is beautiful and does offer some trails around the area and the ladies at the general store were very nice and provided us with suggestions. We only tried one trail and the views were great. If you are looking for a get away from cell service and time to relax this is great. I will say that if you want to stay here to go in to Sequoia NP it is a bit of a drive and it gets dark fast so we did not drive to Sequoia NP till the next day after we checked out early. There is a great place to eat in Pierpoint but bringing your own snacks and food would probably be best, the store closes pretty early. Over all it was a relaxing stay and good getaway from technology.

  • Awesome cabin, perfect retreat away from the city if you need it (we did) and there's plenty of hiking if that's your thing. The fireplace and daybed combo was ideal for afternoon reading. If you're looking to unplug and relax, you should definitely stay here.

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. It's perfect for a weekend get-a-way. No cell service or wifi, so you really get to disconnect from everything. The cabin itself is beautiful, perfect for two people. The living room did get a little cold late at night but the rest of the cabin was perfectly warm with the provided heaters. Didn't even need to dress too warmly going to bed! No complaints at all about temperature. Bring your own food to cook, all pans and utensils are provided. The surrounding areas were wonderful too. We arrived to lots of snow and saw it begin to dwindle throughout the stay, so each morning we woke up to a slightly different scene outside. We even got to use the patio the last morning as the snow on it had melted away. We can't wait to come back again and see how different it is during the Spring/Summer! That being said, we will definitely be back and hope to make regular trips to this cozy little cabin.

  • This is a wonderfully rustic little getaway! Put the screens down and go outside, or curl up in front of the fire. We loved our stay! We recommend going up in daylight as the roads are very windy and there is no light (we learned this by mistake, ha!). Also, we talked with the kind woman at the general store and she pointed us up to the Stagg Tree in Sequoia Crest - Stunning! Take a little drive further down 190 and you will find Ponderosa - eat at the lodge, it's really great!
