Places to stay in Kawhia Harbour

Places to stay in Kawhia Harbour
Escape the hustle and bustle; relax and unwind in the sleepy harbour town of Kawhia. An easy 2.5 hr drive from Auckland. Kahurangi cottage is the perfect accommodation in Kawhia from which to explore the area. You can drive to Waitomo caves in 1.5 hrs away along a scenic, winding road. Ocean beach is 5 km away, where you can soak in Te Puia hot springs at low tide. Kawhia is known for its annual Kai festival on Waitangi weekend and whaleboat racing on New Year's day.
Fresh, clean and cosy. A relaxing getaway. Fully self contained with good cooking (stove, oven, fridge/freezer, microwave) and laundry facilities. Heater and electric blanket for winter.
Kawhia is a special place, it is the spiritual home of the Tainui people and nestled in the beautiful Kawhia harbour. It is 5km from Ocean beach where you can enjoy Te Puia hot springs at low tide. Ask us for a spade to dig your own spa pool on the beach! There are some lovely bush and beach walks in the area.
  • The lovely cottage has a great viewing area and we enjoyed the stunning scenery of the ocean on one side and the hills on the other (choose whatever you prefer just by turning around a table :). The house has all the necessary amenities, plus a variety of cereals and coffee for a good breakfast to start your day. We were deeply touched by the warmth and hospitality during our visit and hope one day to come back to this magical place.

  • The cottage was lovely - great spot and views. Well equipped, very comfortable, and with great extras like a plate of plums and very tasty cookies! It al added up to a great weekend with friendly hosts. We'll be back.

  • Kit and Di’s cottage is so lovely. They are both such wonderful hosts. If you’re wanting to book this super accommodation, make sure you stay at least two days! We will stay a week next time. Very relaxing. Rob and Philippa

  • My partner and I loved staying at Kahurangi Cottage. We just loved the place as it was perfectly furnished and supplied, super clean, had an excellent bed and linens, and just so cozy and adorable. Upon arrival, you’re greeted by beautiful plantings, a white picket fence and potted flowers right at your front door. Character-plus! The location, the views, the cottage itself and all the amenities were just perfect for our weekend in Kawhia. It’s lovely and quiet, overlooking a rural view on one side and most of Kawhia on the other side. One of the highlights was watching a daddy quail and one of his chicks amble across the front deck, chattering away at each other! Kit and Di are lovely and friendly, and love hearing about your visit at the end of your stay. Can’t wait to visit Kawhia again and will definitely book in at Kahurangi Cottage!!

  • We were in Kawhia at a great time, when it wasnt too busy and we were able to enjoy the DIY Hot pools at Ocean Beach, walked around Aotea Beach and even a trip to Raglan for the day. But mostly, enjoyed relaxing at the lovely house. My daughter even tried her hand at strumming the lovely guitar on the stand. (a most lovely touch!) Thank you for a good week at your place, Moira.

Our home sits high on the hill with stunning water views across the unspoilt harbour. Every room has access to a deck to enjoy the outdoors. The property has 2 bedrooms inside the main home with a cabin as the 3rd bedroom. It has room for your car and boat, with easy access to the ramp for fishing. It is a quiet space to relax in the sun or under the umbrella. We have a collection of games, books and DVDs for your use.
Escape the city life for a bit of peace and quiet. A gentle coastal walk to the village to experience homemade scones, coffee and tea. A short drive or walk to Kawhia Ocean beach and experience the natural hot pools. If fishing and diving are your passion there is plenty to offer with charter boats from the wharf or bring your own boat and get into it and of course there is always the famous ''KAWHIA FISH AND CHIPS '' from the local cafe you can try to demolish, good luck on that one!!. The local pub is always a bit of entertainment as well as the fishing club both have good food and always a cold beer or two.
Kawhia is a quiet village with a population of 650. It is one of the most beautiful regions in New Zealand with its unspoilt harbour.
  • Brent and Paula's place is located close to and has great views of the water. There are several decks to hang out on. Their house was very clean and made for a relaxed stay!

Amazing location and pet friendly. You will not get closer to the ocean unless you are swimming ! Close to Waitomo Caves and Bridal Veil Falls. The 3 bedrooms may be small but the view is what you have come for. There is safe swimming and good harbor fishing. No free wifi until local reception improves, mobile coverage is limited but you can call/text/mobile data from the "Magic Spot" in the Bach. If you want a true Kiwi beach bach experience, you have just found a hidden gem at Aotea.
Clean and cosy cottage with your own access and off street parking. Motel quality linen is provided and there is a great little fire for those winter nights. Enclosed verandah and deck are great places for the pets and children. Enjoy balmy summer nights on the deck watching the sun go on down. Full cooking and laundry facilities along with two kayaks and two sun loungers.Great two family space with two parent bedrooms and a bunk room for 4 kids.Good range of dvd's, cd's and board games for those wet days.
Aotea has friendly locals (close to 40 !!) who wave back. Kawhia,(10 mins away), has a pub, cafe, fish and chip shop, general store and petrol station. Iconic Oparau Store is only 17km away. Area is great for the serious athlete looking for challenging roads for cyclists/runners and safe, against the tide, harbour swimming. If you want the true Kiwi Bach experience with a laid back lifestyle, you have found it.
  • Fantastic waterfront location, cute and clean Bach with everything we needed. We loved our stay here.

  • Once again a wonderful stay at Debach...it is the most beautiful place and met the needs of 3 generations brilliantly....Mel and Geoff are great hosts and Debach is just fabulous ...we were very sad to leave.

  • Well sometimes I stumble across a place which is so really great that I don’t want to share. Da bach is one of those gems. It has all the amenities but without being fussy. The location makes it hard to beat. The hosts do a great job! Well equipped for hanging out

    Christine2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Aotea is a peaceful little village, super dog friendly, which is a lovely plus. The bach itself has a great view with the sea set against rolling black sand dunes, and the enclosed deck is a sweet spot to eat a late dinner and watch the waves. We'd definitely recommend driving to the hot water beach in Kawhia - you don't often get to experience a beach like that so quiet.

    Jean2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home with beautiful views. Great place to unwind and relax. Freaked out a tad bit upon reading the fact that there is a compost toilet after I’d made the booking but was pleasantly surprised that it was flushable. Very comfortable home right next to the water, coming from a busy city life it was the best place to unwind, have a few beers and catch up with friends. Extra blankets and towels were extremely convenient and so many different places to have a nap haha. 10/10 would recommend and will also be returning

    Tomairangi2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a brilliant location this is. We couldn't have asked for a better setting. This is a part of NZ we'd never been to before and it is very special. Would highly recommend you spend several days here, especially if you need your batteries recharged which is really easy to do in this quiet scenic spot, many thanks Geoff and Mel for sharing your piece of paradise with us, Peter and Jenny

We had a very relaxing time taking advantage of the deck, big dining space and comfy lounge. Walking distance to shops and the pub and a couple of minutes by car to ocean beach - though we saw people walking it! Great spot in a fabulous little kiwi town.

    Pauly2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean unit with everything you need. Henry was a lovely host, ready to help with anything. He provided a BBQ and also some wonderfully fresh snapper - yum! Aotea is an extremely quiet settlement and very peaceful. The only downsides were that the unit wasn't right on the water and the bed is against the wall. We had a lovely relaxing time in a beautiful part of our country.

    Margaret2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Cool place. Great view of the sea and sand dudes from the deck. Cheers!

  • Beautiful property with a very friendly host

    Varun2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Relaxing, enjoying. Lovely, unique place. Elle is so charming host. The only bad thing was that we didnt have time to stay longer.

    Virpi2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Elle is a cordial hostess and has everything in order. We felt at home there.

    Leen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If u seek sanctuary and u like a peaceful natural setting, with space and quality indoors as well, don't hesitate to book Elle's place. If you're not at all familiar with the area, be sure and communicate in advance with Elle about your needs as it is a small town rural area. I absolutely loved Elle's home and property. Get out of the car and beach walk, swim and explore Kawhia.

    Brandy2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice stay in a beautiful house. The host was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended this stay.

    Emilia2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Elle was an excellent host; she had coffee waiting for us upon arrival, fresh eggs for breakfast (from her backyard chickens!), a dog and cat who are kind and affectionate beyond words, and what’s more, she gave us some excellent recommendations for our upcoming trip to Auckland and tipped us onto a sulphuric hot spring at a nearby beach. 10/10 would recommend this lovely idyllic Oparau getaway.

    Choo2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Elle is a lovely and very accomodating host and her place is comfortable, relaxing and full of character. We highly recommend her place!

  • David and Haylee’s place was a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of a holiday.

    Tory2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • David and Haylee's place is incredible! The view is amazing and the space is very cozy. The shower is great (felt like being under a waterfall) and the bed is super comfy. Would definitely recommend if you have a car and want the option of being near enough to Raglan to enjoy the shops and cafes, but also far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet with a beautiful view.

    Jess2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Off the beaten path and well worth it! We loved enjoying some time in the countryside—and with an incredible ocean view! A quick drive down to a quiet beach was certainly a highlight and included the opportunity to watch some surfers on the magnificent waves. Probably our favorite thing was grilling and then enjoying dessert on the viewing deck while watching a perfect sunset over the Tasman. Haylee and David were perfect hosts, and we wish them the best of luck with their winery!

    Jordan2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, clean and well organised space. We loved the champagne deck looking out over the ocean. This was a wonderfully relaxing and refreshing weekend destination.

    Steven2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A remote, coastal retreat off the beaten track. Private and stunning views with the beach, bush, hiking or town just a short drive down the back roads of Raglan away. The room and amenities are well attended to, tidy, clean and of quality. The bbq provides an alternative option for cooking in the calm evenings with the viewing platform placed perfectly for evenings of wine and sunsets.

    Jessica2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views on the vineyard, a bit of a drive outside of Raglan but worth the views!

    Luke2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • After around 30 minutes driving from Raglan you get to the wonderful place of Haylee and David! The view of the sundeck is amazing and the room is super clean and nice. We really enjoyed our stay at their place!

Kia ora! Welcome to our awesome yurt overlooking the Tasman sea on one side and beautiful Mt Karioi on the other, just a 10 min drive from Raglan. Next door you have a self-contained private kitchen and shower block with gas hot water and stove. The lights, fridge and water pump are powered by solar. For the colder months we have an in-built wood-burner to make sure the yurt stays cosy all year round. Perfect for a couple seeking a romantic, off-grid weekend away or a small family (we can try and accommodate 1 or 2 small kids but please let us know in advance of booking so we can discuss sleeping arrangements). All welcome!
The yurt itself comes with an extremely effective wood-burning stove which keeps the whole structure VERY cosy in the winter months. We can pre-light the fire so its the perfect temperature for visitors when they arrive and we will leave enough wood to make sure you stay warm for the whole stay. The yurt has its own self-contained fully-equipped kitchen and shower block with a separate chemical toilet and handbasin. All are within a few steps of the yurt.
Raglan is world-famous for its surf breaks at Manu Bay, Ngarunui Beach and Ruapuke Beach. The town itself has excellent cafes and restaurants like Raglan Roast, The Shack, Wallis Street Bistro, The Rock It Kitchen, Orca and The Wharf. We have two great yoga venues at the The Space and Yoga Loft. Fish and chips at the Kopua Domain or Wharf. Bridal Veil Falls are 20mins drive from the yurt.
  • Really nice place to stay with amazing views and all the necessary comforts

    James2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend a stay if you are wanting to get off grid for a while. The Yurt is stylish and comfortable, great views, so quiet and the kitchen/ shower block is well kitted out with everything you could need. We really enjoyed our stay!

  • Great place for a weekend escape out of the city. Quiet and private location. Like camping, but with the luxuries of a hot shower and kitchen. The yurt is a cool space to stay in. Would be awesome to have some games or cards inside the yurt to keep entertained during wet weather. Thanks again!

  • The Yurt was amazingly present and very warm considering it was winter. It was well insulated, which provides an all year round option for accommodation. The amenities were good. It was located in a quiet rural area, close to Raglan. I would recommend the experience to anyone that is looking for a different living experience.

Studio accommodation set in the gardens of the main house. Super King size bed.Sit outside on the decking and watch the stars in the evening they are so clear.
Waitomo Caves a 10 minute drive away with two excellent service towns with Otorohanga 10 minutes drive North and Te Kuiti 10 minutes South. Our local favorite eateries are "Stoked" in Te Kuiti and "Huhu" in Waitomo village with "Bosco Cafe" for coffee in Te Kuiti.
  • This place is fantastic! I give it bonus stars for clean, special touches, fantastic breakfast, great value and amazing host. This was definitely our best accomodation in New Zealand.

    Lisa2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely spot off the beaten track, Sandra was lovely and provided some great local tips. Perfect for what we needed for exploring the Waitomo area; the bed was super comfy and the views were amazing.

    James2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing place to stay if you’re spending time in the Waitomo area. The farm is easy to find, Sandra is warm and kind, and you get a great big space all to your self with an incredible view of the valley. Highly recommended!

    Travis2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Spotless clean, very comfy & a wonderful host. My only regret was staying only 1 night

    Michelle2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra’s place is sparkling clean and in a terrific off-road pastoral setting. Absolutely quiet and charming, on the family farm. The bed was luxuriously comfortable and we slept the best in three weeks of travel. Besides the great large space, with kitchen, a real treat is meeting Sandra and her dog Mojo. One of the kind and wonderful people in the world. Location is great, too, as it is a simple drive to the caves and Waitomo Village. Sometimes one arrives at a place to find it not quite as imagined from descriptions. Sandra’s place was above and beyond the description. Absolutely lovely.

    Jan2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra was an awesome host! Lovely place, clean, welcoming with great views of farmland and beautiful sunset. Great suggestions of things to do locally. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet and getting away from the city life 😊.

  • Spacious, private, pretty cabin with lots of colourful touches inside and out. It's homely and comfortable and in a very peaceful spot. Wasn't sure how the outside shower and toilet would be but they were private, fine and fun to use. There's a fab hot water beach 45 minutes drive down the road which was great fun to build our own hot pool at low tide - thanks for the loan of the spades and also for the delicious breakfasts Rowena.

    Kelvyn2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Super cool location and great accommodation. Awesome place to stay! Rowena is an excellent host.

    Bill2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely my best Airbnb experience. Rowena was super cool in any way, and the charming cabin is located in a remote, quiet bush. It has unique stuff like outdoor shower, or wood fired bake ovens. We also loved the encounters with animals and plants there. One night wasn’t enough at all.

    Aki2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Rowena was a warm welcoming host and we recommend visiting Totara cabin to experience just what can be achieved by someone prepared to do that little bit extra to make their visitors stay more special.

    Stewart2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

Waitetuna Valley is only 30 minutes from Hamilton, 1.5 hours from Auckland and only 15 minutes from Raglan. When the urge to explore hits bush walks up and close to Mount Pirongia are a short drive away. Or head to Raglan surf beach for swimming, surfing, paddle boarding, boutique shops and really good cafes.

  • Look no further, you have found one of the most beautiful, quaint bnbs! My husband and I had such a wonderful stay here. There was so much to do and Raglan was only a short drive away along with hiking and fabulous restaurants. Liz & Jas were incredible hosts and their property is magical. It was really nice being disconnected from wifi, but when we needed to check in we just grabbed a brew in Raglan. Cheers!

  • A beautiful home and the perfect place to watch the sunrise every morning while admiring the beauty of New Zealand. Stylishly decorated and very comfortable with ultra-modern amenities. It was a great home base for our stay while we made daily 4-5 hour road trips to explore outside of Raglan. We used the grill on the patio every morning for breakfast and loved admiring the view.

Private sheltered mountain retreat, stand alone open plan cottage faces north with sunny deck and glorious outside bath. A romantic bedroom and new bathroom provide a touch of luxury in a rustic setting. Like us @moonlodgeraglan
The moon lodge at Waimaunga gives guests a rural retreat in proximity to the spectacular West Coast. Exploring big black sand beaches on foot or on a board, Ruapuke,Whaingaroa, Aotea, Kawhia coastlines, also offer mountain ranges for the active. Raglan township is a 15 minute drive, where essentials can be purchased and good coffee can be found. Fresh fish and chips from the wharf are legendary, and there are a number of galleries and shops good for browsing for a unique New Zealand gift. The Chalet is totally private from the main house but brief walking distance if any help is needed. kitchen provides essentials, pots and pans etc for cooking . While there is no television and wifi is intermittent, many DVDs , movies and television series are available. A number of books are available on the history/geography of the area and the hosts are also knowledgeable of the area.
This is a rural are where neighbours are farmers of lifestyle block owners, who do have a close relationship with each other and watch over each others properties.
  • We had an amazing stay. This place is just absolutely gorgeous. I slept the best I have slept in a long time and didn't want to get up ☺. The beach was amazing and completely isolated!I have never seen that colour sand before! Absolutely amazing stay. Thank you very much xoxox

    Alexa2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home, quite a drive from the main town though. There are 2 different ways to get to the chalet and we took the longest dirt road coming in and the shorter one coming out. Would recommend a suv/truck for the dirt roads as they put our rental sedan through the ringer. The space was beautiful, private and spacious.

A beautiful and private location in the country, conveniently located 15-20 minutes from Raglan, Bridal Veil Falls, Ruapuke Beach, and Karioi Mountain. Very private with easy access from your own parking area. Mature fruit trees throughout the property provide fresh fruit in season. A private yard with expansive views. No light pollution here, the night sky is spectacular!
Kitchen, dining, living area with TV. Unlimited Netflix. Full bathroom with shower. Outdoor bath off bedroom. Fold out couch in living room. Washing machine. Heat pump. Cookware and utensils for preparing meals in your own kitchen.
There are so many opportunities in the area! Raglan is a special town and the surrounding region has a lot to offer. The surfing is world class. Whether you are a participant or spectator, you will not be disappointed! The fishing is amazing and your hosts are often crossing the Raglan Bar heading offshore in their fishing boat. If you like seafood you're in the right place:) Bridal Veil Falls is not to be missed and only 15 minutes from the cottage. A drive south around Aotea Harbour to the village of Kawhia is an excellent way to spend a day. There's so much to do, you'll want to stay a week or two:) Due to Covid 19 virus Level 4 Lock Down we will not be hosting for the next 4 weeks. This will be reassessed upon further notice from the New Zealand Government .
  • Have a nice stay in this little chalet. Very nice touches including a bouquet of fresh flowers etc. Beautiful dishes .. We felt good there.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Rob and Sue’s. The fresh fruit that were in season from their trees that they delivered as well as let us pick were delicious. Also the coffee they buy from a local company and fresh milk from the local dairy they have delivered to the place was a real nice touch.

    Bradley2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Rob & Sue were very gracious hosts. Their unit is about a 20 minute drive out of Raglan, but very private and self-contained. Everything we needed was provided and the thoughtful touches were most appreciated,

  • Sue’s and Rob’s cottage is an awesome place to stay. It does provide everything you need, incl. yummy bread and homemade marmalade. Sue made us feel warmly welcomed, even though we arrived pretty late. The place is tranquil and peaceful, and we as well as our two dogs loved it. We definitely recommend to stay there.

  • Such an awesome spot. Went for a short weekend away here and it just wasn't long enough. Didn't want to leave.

    Daniel2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place to get away for a long weekend! Convenient drive to Raglan, it's local beaches, Bridal Veil Falls and the Mt Karioi hike - this is a must do if you're fit and able! Sue and Rob are lovely hosts, easy to communicate with and had provided their place with lots of thoughtful touches - locally roasted coffee, fresh flowers, fruit and the outdoor bath was a lovely place to chill watching the stars. Def recommend!

    Celia2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is lovely, tidy and has really pretty furniture. It's a quiet place. Rob and Sue are lovely hosts and always available. The special of the airbnb is the outdoor bathtop. We had a really good time.

  • If you want peacefulness and privacy Rob and Sue’s place is for you! We had great hospitality and so appreciative to be given the red snapper caught by Rob and Sue. We like other guests thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor tub! Cool little place!

  • Rock Retreat is perfect. We stayed here between the Waitomo Caves and heading to Hobbiton. The location was perfect - just off the beaten path but close enough for a jaunt to town for dinner. The view is stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed catching the sunrise over the hills and devouring Biddy’s homemade yogurt and apricots. 10/10 would stay again.

    Catie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • One of the nicest BnB‘s we stayed in during our 10 week journey through whole NZ. Clean, tranquil, wonderful terrace with a hammock we loved, a bath almost in the bush, best tap water we ever tasted, a sweet possum said hello at night - and soooo comfy beds we slept very well in.... highly recommend!

    Martina2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Biddy and family were amazing!!! Not a single problem... If you want peace and relaxation this is it! I cannot remember have stayed at such a place with such OUTSTANDING & truly BEAUTIFUL views; waking up each morning to a view like that was awesome!!! If you want peace and relaxation you must check out Biddys place!!!... oh btw that have the most cutest dogs, whom are super friendly; we were lucky enough to have one of their dogs visit the cottage [of which is located in a nice private part of there property] several times which was cool... 10 out 10!!!

    Matt2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Extraordinary location, a place to remember. Lovingly assorted and presented breakfast. No Wifi, but this is a place where you forget the world anyway. As it’s solar powered expect not using hair-dryers.

    Christian2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very charming farm cottage beautifully decorated in a dreamlike landscape. You feel right there right away. Biddy's welcome is very warm and she has lots of little touches in store for us. The bedding is very good. Here no wifi (we limit energy consumption) but real coffee beans!

    Olivier2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Rock Retreat was so much more than expected. We had the best sleep since we left home and the energy was quite simply magical. I wish we had had at least another day and night. Step outside your box and have a wonderful experience including the loveliest puppy.

Our Bristol Freighter Plane is one of the last allied planes that was flown in Vietnam. This plane is split into two motels: the cockpit and the rear tail. It is truly a one-off unique piece and there is no other such plane accommodation existing in the world.
It is for the true adventurer. One bed is located up in the cockpit and you must be fit to climb the steep ladder to access the controls and that sleeping area. As such the upstairs is more suited for fit children. Children MUST BE older than 8 years of age. This sleeping area can also be hot in the summer months. The upstairs bed is unsuitable for younger children or people with physical limitations. There is also a double bed on the lower level. There is an ensuite bathroom with shower and toilet, as well as a living/eating area with kitchenette. The kitchenette features a gas hob, microwave and refrigerator for light meals.
900m from glowwarm caves and local village
  • Staying in a cockpit of a plane what could cooler.

  • A special motel with really intersecting history. People who love the history of WW1, WW2 will deginetely find a lot of interesting assets in the check-in office and inter the motel. The host gave us great advice on the night activity and restaurant.

  • What a special place !! Blown away by the history this space offered and given the age and condition I was equally impressed with the cleanliness. Thanks for an unforgettable stay!

    Leanne2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is s fun place to stay. It's a little inconvenient to get there by foot if you have luggage, but still worth it. The nearby Cafe at the adventure company was great, as promised by our hosts, and the people there were very helpful and nice.

    E & E2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • The staff at Woodlyn Park were good communicators and gave us instructions for check-in. There was always someone to contact 24/7z It was winter but there’s an air conditioner/heater in the unit plus individual/single/twin-sized heating blankets on the bed. We thought it was one queen sized heating blanket so my mum kept complaining it was cold under the sheets and I was boiling hot! The kitchen is very functional. The bathroom had a nice hot shower. The cockpit is amazing and I’d have slept in there except I think it might be hard for me to climb down quickly and easily in times of desperation, so I stayed downstairs. Great place to stay at while exploring Waitomo!

    Amanda2019-09-02T00:00:00Z

  • Of all our accommodation throughout our big family holiday road trip around the North Island, my family was most charmed and delighted with The Barn. It was such a special place to spend our last night on the road, with so many thoughtful touches. Our group included middle-agers, teenagers, and a kindergartener, and there was something magically wonderful for everyone, from the rustic candle chandelier to the giant swing chair (big enough to curl up and sleep in) to Pooh's House and feeding the eels. The quiet stillness at night and the star-filled sky were a treat. Rowena brought a gorgeous breakfast and is an excellent host. We loved The Barn!

The quirky and cool decor made for good conversation starters and Marley the kitty was so friendly. The Bach has everything you’d need and I’m just disappointed that I didn’t bring any coffee pods!! They aren’t sold at the lil store in Kawhia. It was so lovely just crossing the road to go for early morning and late night swims. Wish I could live there!!

  • Carole's place was very clean and bright and much bigger than I expected, with lots of thoughtful extra touches in the bathroom. It is up a long driveway and very quiet. With parking adjacent to the unit.

  • Carole has gone the extra mile to make the bnb comfortable and she has provided some nice personal touches. There was plenty of space and I had a great night's sleep on the cosy bed. There was good lighting for reading and the whole place was spotless. Carole is a friendly and helpful host.

  • Very special experience to stay. Can feed the sheep. Grant & Jamie are kind. Their kids are cute. Especially their 5 years old daughter is very good host. She showed us the environment and played with my 6 years old son that gave us very good memories. Very special accommodation experience, you can feed sheep, the bed and breakfast daughter is not afraid to take us to play, my 6-year-old son can not play well with their children ~ good experience ~ just came to a section of stone road before, no need to Worry, it's right to go up ~

Our funky cottage is tucked away on a quiet rural property with mature trees and parklike grounds. It has a sunroom, private garden and its own patio area. The property is a wondeful haven for birds and we often have Tui's,Kereru, Fantails, Quail and Rosella's as visitors. Waitomo Caves are 30 minutes away,Hobbiton is one and half hours and Mt Pirongia walking tracks are 20 minutes. Pets allowed with prior notice and must not be left unattended.
There are two paddocks right beside the cottage that our neighbours graze their animals on so depending on the time of the year you may have Alpacca's, sheep, lambs or goats as neighbours.
We are 7 minutes drive from Pirongia, a village with 24 hour fuel, a 4 Square, Five Stags pub and two cafes.
  • Fantastic house. Delicious banana loaf in the kitchen when we came. A 10+

    Marlene2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing country house with a lot of space for relaxing. John was very helpful in our arrival. We only regret not staying more time.

    Julian2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This little cottage was a joy to stay in. Obviously well cared for with little thoughtful touches such as the zuchini loaf left for us on the counter. The place was sparkling clean and felt very welcoming. We were meeting friends in Pirongia and it was a very easy drive away yet far enough in the country to have a dark sky with lots of stars. We loved it! Thanks John and Stephanie!

    Janet2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

  • We had a perfect stay at John‘s and Stephonie‘s. Unfortunately it has been only for one night. The carrots loaf as welcoming gift was very tasty . John welcomed us personally and gave us some tips for our next day trip. Definitely recommendable!
