Places to stay in Lewes
The Shepherd's hut sits just on the edge of Firle, one of the South Downs most iconic villages. It is a very private space, in it's own little meadow, two minutes walk to the shop and three minutes to the famous Ram Inn with Lewes and Brighton nearby
the hut is in it's own paddock overlooking the south downs, close to the pub and the little village shop. From March to the end of September i will only take two night bookings during the week end, in the week one night bookings are fine. Over the Christmas and new year period i will only take two night bookings and over Easter and the for the Love Supreme Festival a three night booking as a couple.

  • Fantastic space for a single or very snugly duo. Don't expect hot showers, ceramic hobs or electric. All off grid, loo in church cross the way. But for peace, rejuvenation, health and silence (apart from wind in the trees and cock pheasants calling for a mate)you can't be beat. plus the superlative Ram Inn down the road for breakfast lunch and dinner.....! If you can't get through cos of virus inflamation goggle peter Firle.

  • Amazing place to get away, and Peter was really helpful at communicating everything I needed to know. Would definitely visit again

  • Lovely tranquil setting 😊

  • Find a stripped back, simple space with all that you really need. Wild winds from the Downs to rock you to sleep, rooks to waken you and primroses to greet you in the Spring mornings. (Plus a great pub 5 minutes walk away....)

  • It’s was a great 👍

  • This is a very sweet and tranquil place, with a warm welcome.

    Gracie2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The hut is nestled in a lovely spot on the edge of the village, and was perfect for me as someone wanting to get away from it for a few days. As Larkin says, "only the young can be alone freely" and whether you agree with this or not, as someone who is not young, and has a fair number of responsibilities, to have a soulful bolt hole to skedaddle to is a great boon. When I took leave of the place and thanked Peter as I left, he said that the hut was becoming a sanctuary for some. For me, it was more of a haven - for me there is something very boat-like in its compact, unfussy, recycled elegance . I look forward to clambering on board again.

  • Perfect little studio for a peaceful break so close to Brighton. Communication was really easy and the place is really beautiful, quiet and modern. Thanks Kevin and Richard.

    David2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely studio, clean and stylish. Kevin and Richard gave very clear instructions and we loved the additional touches, like the bagels. The location was perfect for us, only a short taxi ride/drive to the marina or into the town centre and being out of town meant it was very quiet and peaceful. We would definitely recommend.

A gloriously unique and quirky bijou bolt hole, right over the sea! Relax in summer to the sound of the gentle clinking of the yacht masts or watch the waves break over the harbour wall during autumn and winter-The Harbour Hut has year round appeal. With direct access to the beach and the iconic Seven Sisters, a host of restaurants and amenities at the Marina and easy walking distance to Brighton Pier. Double deck chair for sunsets, fluffy robes, Christy Towels and an honesty Gin Bar included!
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE SECTION CAREFULLY BEFORE BOOKING: Firstly, if The Harbour Hut is booked for the dates you require, please see our listing for The Sea Shack, which is our brand new sister property a few doors down in the same location and is another floating tiny house :) The Harbour Hut and The Sea Shack are not located smack bang in central Brighton, they are at Brighton Marina, which is just outside the main city centre, but easy walking distance (around 30 minutes, depending on how fast you walk!) with good transport links. Please make sure you understand this before booking. The whole, beautifully unique space is yours! The Harbour Hut has a mezzanine bedroom with a beautiful copper framed bed and luxury EVEsleep mattress (due to the quirky nature of the building the ceiling upstairs slopes dramatically on one side and the stairs are quite steep and narrow with open treads and no handrail, so take care after a G&T or two!). There's a John Lewis sofa bed that comfortably sleeps 1 extra person; an open plan living room, kitchenette with Dualit mini oven and induction hob (although with so many scrummy places to eat right on your doorstep, you really don’t need to cook!) dining space with bar stools, modern shower room and a glorious, private outdoor sun deck where you can watch the boats go by and soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful spot. There is a Sony HD Smart TV, hairdryer and a glorious vintage antique radio as well as piles of extra blankets for snuggling up inside or out! In the depths of winter it’s wonderful watching the waves crash over the harbour wall while you are safely cocooned in a cosy jumper and pair of fluffy socks, hot chocolate (or G&T!) in hand and a game of Scrabble or Monopoly on the go! And of course in the summer there really is no nicer place to be on than in our double deck chair, watching the sunset with....a G&T (did we mention that we have a Gin Bar, stocked full of Craft Gins and famous names and different Fevertree Tonics, as well as books and magazines about Gin-we love gin at The Harbour Hut!). Farrow & Ball Down Pipe paint is combined with copper accents and luxury driftwood wallpaper, so you'll feel like you're staying somewhere bang on-trend like The Malmaison, but with much more space and quirky personality (this is a FLOATING home, over the water!). There is a Bluetooth speaker and a picnic blanket for heading to the beach or one of the many stunning parks (The Seven Sisters and Ditchling Beacon are literally minutes away!) if the weather is compliant! There is a laundrette beneath The Harbour Hut and free parking at the multi-storey Marina car park (a few minutes walk from The Harbour Hut-PARKING IS NOT DIRECTLY OUTSIDE it is a good few minutes walk away). IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE that due to the property being directly over the water, it is unsuitable for young children. Although not an outright boat, it is a floating home and can therefore move a little at high tide or if it is very stormy. The stairs are also quite narrow and steep up to the mezzanine bedroom, with open treads, no handrail or 'side' so please do contact us if this raises any concerns, as we have other properties that may be more suitable (The Annex in Cuckfield and Marina Luxe, Brighton Marina). You’ll need to watch your head if you are very tall and the bathroom has a compact, corner cubicle shower. It’s the nature of the buildings and part of the unique charm, but please do bear this information in mind when booking. Parking is also not directly outside, it is around a 5 minute walk from the property. There is NO WIFI at the property but ample free WiFi at the Marina itself. We like to encourage a ‘digital detox’ at this particular property. We usually use the Air BNB service ‘Key Nest’ for Key collection, please check with us if you have any questions about this, it’s very safe and convenient but the Key Nest is located a few minutes from The Marina, in Kemptown. PLEASE make sure that you have read and understood ALL of this information. It’s a unique, wonderful space but we cannot take responsibility for any issues that may occur as a result of the listing not being thoroughly read.
Brighton Marina is the perfect safe, secure and amenity rich location for your vacation, with unlimited free parking, 24 hour security, CCTV and easy transport links to the centre of Brighton and Hove (you can walk to Brighton Pier in around 30 minutes). The Marina itself has direct beach access and glorious views of the iconic Seven Sisters. There are a host of great eating options including Cafe Rouge, Zizzi, Prezzo, Five Guys (the BEST burgers!), TGI Fridays, Las Iguanas, etc etc. There is a large Wetherspoons, a great cocktail bar at The Malmaison, independent coffee shops and boutiques and a 24 hour ASDA for grocery shopping (or stocking up on treats!). For breakfast and lunch, we really like The Cherry Tree in the Marina Square (behind The Harvester). There is also a cinema, casino and bowling alley, so literally everything you need is all in one location. Fashionable Kemptown, with its gorgeous shops and restaurants is only a 10 minute walk and the iconic Brighton Pier is only a 30 minute stroll along the seafront, with plenty of interesting buildings and cafes and things to do along the way (crazy golf, open air cinema, zip wire). In summer you can catch the adorable VOLKS electric train. Brighton and Hove have some of the best independent shopping and eating in the U.K.

A light and spacious room detached from the main house. It has its own entrance and is set in a beautiful, sub tropical garden with a hot tub that can be used by guests if requested in advance. (If guests do not request to use the hot tub, the cleaning fee will be refunded and the hot tub will not be prepared or available to use) 15 mins walk to Ovingdean beach and 10 mins drive to Brighton town centre.
Our garden room is detached from the main house and has its own private entrance. It has an extremely comfortable, double bed with the most luxurious duvet, oak floors and a bathroom with a large walk-in shower and beautiful stone tiles. We have recently installed a Smart TV with freeview and DVD player and there is a large selection of DVD's to choose from. The garden room was recently built and completed in 2012. As the room is detached from the main house, our guests can come and go as they please and are welcome to enjoy our stunning garden and exclusive use of the hot tub which is cleaned and maintained regularly for guests. Please let us know in advance if you might like to use it as it is not up to temperature all the time and cannot be guaranteed. (If guests do not request to use the hot tub, the cleaning fee will be refunded and the hot tub will not be prepared or available to use) . Breakfast is included and there are also tea and coffee making facilities including a small fridge in the room. We have a little boy, Harrison, who is 9 and is very respectful of our guests but you may see him using the garden on sunny days. We are situated in Ovingdean, just outside the city of Brighton. It is a very old village with an 11th Century Church just a short walk from the house. We are very lucky to have the Sussex Downs on one side of us and the beach on the other, just a 15 minute walk away. Ovingdean beach is reached via a flight of steps and has a large stretch of sand when the tide is out and is great for rock pooling. There is also a little cafe, open on sunny days, that serves tea in proper mugs and homemade cakes & bacon sandwiches! There is a local shop just up the road which sells the essentials like bread and milk etc. We are about a 10 minute drive from Brighton city centre and there are buses that go from the seafront.
Ovingdean is a little bit of countryside by the sea. It is quiet and beautiful yet so close to Brighton we get the best of everything.

  • The studio is comfortable, private, lots of space, a great bathroom, and a good internet connection. Rhoda is a very good host, available and respectful of your privacy at the same time. The garden is full of birds and rabbits. You have direct access to long hikes in the countryside. I had a peaceful stay and would highly recommend Rhoda's place.

Top floor, light and spacious double room with fireplace in character Victorian house with garden. The room has a comfortable double bed, painted floor, large bay window and original Victorian furniture. I am close to trains, buses, ferry, beach and hill walks.
I am a yoga teacher and massage therapist so can offer you one to one yoga lessons or a relaxing massage in a lovely quiet warm space. I am also a great cook and will make you a delicious evening meal if you give me enough notice. The house has a garden and a really friendly cat. The house is quirky, old and a little inconvenient, interesting and shabby. I need to point out that the bathroom is in the basement and the bedroom is 2 flights of stairs up so it is not suitable for anyone disabled or infirm. I have had new windows fitted since writing the above so it is much quieter now but in the summer the seagulls can be noisy. So bring some earplugs if you are sensitive to noise.
Newhaven is on the outside just another industrial small town but has a great beach and cliffs, is only minutes away from the Ferry terminal to Dieppe. Brighton is 30 mins away by bus or train and the historic town of Lewes with it's castle and ancient windy streets is 10 mins by train. I am only minutes walk away from the beautiful downs and river walks.
  • Suzanne is very caring and welcoming. She has a lovely and comfortable home. The apartment is close to the port so if you arrive by ferry (like me) it’s perfect. You have everything close by. It was a perfect stay for me. Thank you again Suzanne

  • Suzanne was a lovely and warm host and her home is beautiful and peaceful. It's perfect if you just want some time out or want to explore Lewes /Brighton (very close on the train). When I arrived I had a warm bath with salts and essential oils, a nice cup of tea and read one of her many interesting books. She also provided breakfast/tea and coffee for me which was a thoughtful touch. Overall I would highly recommend- Suzanne really is a suoerhost!

    Asha 2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A great stay in a cozy, warmly decorated room and house. Suzanne provided breakfast for us as well. A great spot for the Seven sisters walk. Thanks for having us!

  • After walking 22km, I was exhausted and famished. Suzanne ran a bath (with epson salt and scented trinkets), directed me to a delicious local fish platter and was perfectly pleasant throughout my stay.

  • Had an absolutely wonderful stay. My room was perfect and Suzanne couldn't have been a friendlier, kinder host.

Rodmell is a very pretty, quiet village on the outskirts of Lewes amongst the Southdown Way National Trail. There are some beautiful walks right on the doorstep. If you venture up the lane you are right in the heart of the South Downs National Park with some outstanding views and amazing walks. If you go down the lane there is a beautiful river walk. You also have the Abergavenny Arms Pub complete with inglenook fire place and traditional oak beams that supplies some delicious, local, hand cooked food and drink. Pleas note, the local pub stops serving food at 3pm on a Sunday. There is also The Monks House that is a National Trust property which was once inhabited by the novelist Virginia Woolf. If you are looking for a bit more entertainment, you have Lewes which is a 5 minute drive away. There are some excellent restaurants and cafes there along with some quirky and interesting shops. Glyndbourne, Charleston and Brighton are also very near by.
  • My friend Marion and I stayed in the Snug for NYE this year, and we could not have had a better time. The space is adorable and tastefully decorated, and well situated if you are looking for a retreat, but still need to be connected to a train station (Southease). Last but not least, Lydia and Adam are the best hosts ever. Adam kindly offered us some craft beer, and Lydia was so gracious when we (don’t do it though!) missed checkout time. Highly recommend this gem for any occasion!

    Hélène2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lydia’s space is perfect if you are looking for a lovely cosy hideout for a couple nights. It has all the amenities you need and very comfortable stay. Walking distance to local pub for a roast and plenty to see in terms of South Downs way, Lewes and all the South Downs have to offer. This was perfect as an escape from London!

  • The Woodman's Snug is a lovely place to stay - conveniently located between both Lewes and Brighton. It is a meticulously well-designed and looks exactly like the pictures. On arrival, we were presented with a guide with recommendations for places to visit and eat - also a short description about the family which was a nice touch. Lydia was also kind enough to provide milk, biscuits, tea and coffee. During our stay, Lydia and her family had guests around to celebrate some of their birthdays. We were pleasantly surprised when Adam knocked on our door asking if we would like to have some of the organic pizza they were making for the gathering - a lovely, lovely gesture! Would highly recommend staying here for a nice weekend retreat.

    Cindy2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lydia' s place is lovely and cosy. Very well equiped and in a good location. We had a 3 nights stay and found it very comfortable. The local pub is good and easy to walk to. They also welcome dogs. Would definatly recommend.

  • Ideal place just outside of Brighton where you can escape the main tourist area. Lovely little village, not from the stunning Lewes and Brighton. Quirky, quiet, clean and just a great escape - you wouldn’t think you were on the side of someone’s house! Lydia was helpful and left us to it for our stay but had plenty of recommendations Highly recommend!

    Hannah2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely annex to Lydia’s house full of style and comfort. Very convenient for visiting Monk’s House and walking the South Downs Way. The Abergavenny Arms serves good food in the village. Lydia was very helpful storing our bikes and letting us clean them.

  • Perfect little ‘snug’ ideal for a couples weekend away, loads of walks nearby and pub down the road. Place so nicely decorated and so cosy with loads of film options on tv and easy to cook etc Very private once inside but will say it is attached to the main house and entrance is in front garden

    Anna2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely snug, very cosy and perfect what we wanted. Excellent location for the South Downs and a lovely pub nearby. Idyllic countryside location!

Fully self contained private studio room with kitchenette and shower toilet , easy walking distance from town centre and access to south downs national park. New Haven ferry 25 mins.
Check in time is 2.30pm and check out 11am...we can usually be flexible with this depending on circumstances. Our space is a modern self contained studio. The bed a is brand new pocket spring divan . There is TV with free view and internet. You have a small fridge and cooking facilities .
We live easy walking distance from the lovely historic town centre of Lewes with its Norman Castle and lots more...as well as super markets and transport. We are well placed for loads of lovely countryside walks, including the South Downs Way, and river Ouse. There are beaches too! not far away at Seaford and Brighton, Birling gap etc.
  • Caroline was the perfect host, i would stay here again and again. I had everything I needed, most importantly serenity. I have made a new friend and will be sure to stay again one day. I have no negative comments, only gratitude ❤

    Dolly2020-04-19T00:00:00Z
  • Caroline is the consummate host, and she’s thought of everything to make her studio room perfect. She very kindly accommodated my changing plans and was always available to answer my questions. The studio is light, airy, modern, clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The kitchen has everything needed, including an induction hob and oven/microwave combo. The only thing lacking is a freezer compartment in the mini fridge, but the trade-off there is that the fridge is absolutely silent with no annoying compressor noises. There’s a slight privacy issue with the foot traffic just outside the main window, but I found it manageable. There’s easy access both to challenging hill walks and level riverside walks, as well as historic attractions and plenty of shops, both chain and independent. There’s bus service nearby if you need to leave town, but the center of Lewes itself is just a short walk away. I would have been happy to have stayed longer if the studio hadn't been, unsurprisingly, fully booked after me. Highly recommended for a stay of any length.

  • I've been living in this perfect apartment for six weeks, and I can't find the words to express how well I've felt. The apartment has absolutely everything that you need (and more), the heating is fantastic, everything is new and it's spotlessly clean. There's no single thing I can complain about. Caroline and her husband are fantastic, they've made me feel really at home. I'm looking forward to being here again.

    Carmen2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Cosy, clean and comfortable, close to all amenities, easy parking.

    Mark2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful place to stay just on the edge of Lewes. It's really cosy but really well equipped with everything you need for a short break. Caroline was quick to respond whenever I messaged her and went out of her way to help us out when we needed anything. I'd massively recommend it to anyone and we'll definitely be staying again when we're next down!

    Matthew2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time staying here, everything you need for a lovely stay. Will defiently be staying again.

Totally unique, hand-built, cosy cabin with wood-burner, raised cabin bed, shower room and kitchenette. Fully insulated, with electric heating and hot water. Built by Stu & Aine from recycled timber we're in the heart of the town, just 2 minutes from the Station. Perfect for that romantic weekend away !! We look forward to welcoming you to our cabin, our home and our lovely town.
We are in the heart of the town. Just 2 minutes from the station and 10 minutes from the High Street. Everything you might want from Lewes is a short walk away. Our Cabin is a unique and lovingly crafted space. In the main area is the raised bed, with sumptuous mattress, feather and down duvet & pillows and French linen sheets. We supply a continental style breakfast (granola, orange juice, fruit, toasts, jams, marmalade, berries, real or instant coffees and English and herb teas) for you to have at your leisure. The kitchenette has toaster, kettle, fridge, microwave and Belfast sink. In the drawers you'll find cooking utensils. There is a pull out table, chairs and double seating. The en suite shower room is well appointed and we provide free quality toiletries & luxury cotton towels. And there are lots of lovely little touches doted through the cabin. Relax and curl up next to the wood-burning stove and enjoy the views of the garden, or rest on the outdoor deck. The Cabin is well appointed and has everything you need for your stay. It is cosy (think a bit bigger than a Shepherd's Hut) and has lots of storage. It's a two night minimum stay at the weekends & Holidays.
We are so close to Lewes station - it is literally just two minutes (yes - I've timed it !). If you come by car, we can help you with car parking. We overlook the beautiful Grange Gardens, and Southover Grange (handy for weddings there) is close by. It is just a 5 minute walk to Anne of Cleves House (Henry V111's fourth wife), the Castle, the medieval High Street, numerous lovely shops and cafes. It's a 15 minute walk to be out of the town and up onto the surrounding downs and into stunning countryside and a 20 minute drive to the beach and seaside. Glyndebourne, the world famous opera house , is just a ten minute drive away.
  • This little place is a gem. Location fantastic. So near shops. Restaurants. Pubs. Parks. Walks. 20 mins drive to a beautiful beach and coastal walk to seven sisters. Amazing views. Excellent hospitality with lovely touches. Great continental brekkie. Very clean and warm . Stu and aine are so welcoming and friendly. Can’t give a high enough rating. We will definitely return.

    Nathan2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful and cozy spot! A perfect place for a weekend getaway and I imagine even lovelier in the late spring/summer when the garden is in full bloom (though the fire was equally as nice for our time there). Aine and Stu were great throughout our time and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Recommend!

    Hazel2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Stu and Aine provided a perfect getaway for the weekend. The cabin is a perfect little place to get cosy, light a fire and relax. All amenities are modern and stylish and there’s so many nice little touches that have been added by Stu and Aine. They were really generous and helpful, provided great local tips on what to do, the communication was first class and the breakfast they provided was delicious! We shall return!

  • James and Czarina’s place is absolutely gorgeous, it’s the perfect location for a night or two away to relax. The studio is quite big and there is a large bathroom, too. The decor is bright and stylish with a perfect spot to read your book on the sofa, looking out to the garden. The little touches like delicious breakfast and nice shower gel make you feel at home. Check in and out was so easy, as was the communication and responses. We will definitely come back and are already recommending it to our friends and family - thank you so much for having us!

*Due to current health concerns we’re taking extra care to deep clean the flat on every turn over. We wash all bedding , towels and covers on a hot wash, in addition to this wipe down all surfaces and handles after a proper clean with a bleach solution. We also have cleaning products on hand should you wish to use them.
Our flat is a new renovation in the centre of Lewes, originally the beer cellar for The Red White and Blue pub built in 1827 it is now a light and airy, modern well equipped space for a relaxing get away. You have your own front door and the space is completely self contained. The kitchen has an electric oven, dishwasher and washing machine and all the items you'd need if you wanted to cook up a feast. Should you want to eat out the flat is in the very centre of Lewes so all the pubs and restaurants Lewes has to offer are only ever a few minutes walk away.
Lewes is a busy town with lots going on, the town boasts a huge amount of independent shops and restaurants, The Needlemakers is a great place for shopping as is Cliffe High Street for antiquing.
  • A great central position to explore Lewes in all its glory, train station only 5 mins away but not even heard. A great base to explore the outstanding areas of natural beauty and historical sites that Lewes and surrounding areas have to offer. We were in the area for essential private cancer care so unfortunately didn't have an opportunity to experience any local amenities due to the lockdown, but there are quite a few pubs and restaurants which I discovered upon during my exercise and food shopping journeys.

We are right in the centre of town minutes from trains station, independent cinema with three screens, and high street. Easy access to walks and bike rides in the South Downs National Park and universities in Brighton.

My place is in central Lewes with its historical architecture, shops and restaurants. We are near to the railway station, bus routes, close to South Downs National Park and Glyndebourne Opera House. One hour from London. It is a fully furnished and equipped, light, basement flat with its own entrance. Parking is close by. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travellers.
The flat has one bedroom with an en-suite shower, toilet and basin. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, 2 ring hob and oven, freezer, fridge, toaster, electric kettle. There is no dishwasher.
Lewes is a pretty, historic town with many small shops, a castle, museum, swimming pool (indoor and outdoor), new, award winning cinema, interesting architecture and lovely views and country walks all around. My place is right in the centre so all the amenities are within easy walking distance and you can be on top of the Downs in 10 minutes
  • The flat is clean, comfortable and well kitted out as well as being tastefully decorated. Rosalind has been quick to answer questions and offer other help. The location is perfect - an easy walk into lovely Lewes, and close enough to the countryside for walking.

There is a table, chairs and a comfy sofa. There is a separate toilet and shower. The secluded south facing outside decking is the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.
Lewes is a beautiful historic town nestled in the South Downs National Park. There is a thriving high street with independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. There are footpaths over the South Downs to country pubs on Apple Tree Cabin's doorstep and we recommend our favourites in our information booklet.
  • The cabin and private deck were super cozy! Would loved to have been able to hibernate there for a bit longer :) For those without a car: it's a 20-30 minute walk to the train, depending in part on whether you're heading uphill (to the cabin) or downhill (to the station). However, pub and shopping options start within a 10-15 minute walk. And there's a small grocery with late hours on the corner! Only the essentials, but helpful if needed.

    Andrea2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Our second time at Appletree Cabin and just as magical as the first. It’s such a wonderful little hideaway in a gorgeous setting on the southern downs. The hosts gave great recommendations for dinner and even left us a bottle of bubbles to celebrate. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

  • It was a lovely experience. Georgie was a great host and the little apple tree house was super cosy - even more than expected!

    Sara2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is brilliant. You have your own private space making this a great place to escape to. The amenities are really good in the kitchen space. Both the bed and sofa are comfy allowing you to properly relax. The method of getting on and off the bed is fun and unique. Love the eco- friendly ethos of the place. It’s really warm in the winter and I’m looking forward to revisiting in the spring and summer.

The Garden Room is bright and spacious with lovely views to the south across the Lewes Brooks. There is a well equipped kitchen area, and you have your own front door. Cereal, milk, tea, coffee and other breakfast provisions will be waiting for you for your first day. We are close to Lewes but with open fields nearby. It is a ten minute walk to a pub that can provide meals and the local beer. A cot and a small child's bed are available on request at no extra cost.
The Garden Room is a good place to relax or to work in. There is indoor and outdoor space; it is warm and comfortable.
The Garden Room is about one mile from Lewes with all its amenities and travel connections, but it is at the foot of the South Downs with very many lovely walks and bike rides right from our doorstep.
  • Cosy "one room apartment" with a fine view to fields and hills. Has everything you would need. Chris and Peter are very friendly.

  • Lovely time at Chris' place. Nice and quiet, lovely views, all the bits you need including a torch for the after hours. Nice welcome of tea and milk and snacks - definitely would come again!

  • Chris was very welcoming and helpful with tips and advices for the area and our stay. We really enjoyed the place being so cosy, full of sunlight and with nice furniture and a very comfortable bed. Also Chris place is close to nature as well as to Lewes, which is a lovely city where you can stroll around all day. We wished we had more time to discover the Southdowns and hope to be back soon!

I have a single bed in my home studio where I teach and create music. It is a large room next to a shower room with views of the South Downs. I will soon be rich enough to keep the room to myself and am happy to rent it from time to time for very short stays. We are central and close to everything and I am an easy going host.
We are so central, everything is on your doorstep. I use the room as my music room so the speakers are recording studio quality with a Bluetooth receiver. You have a fridge with tea making facilities. There are spare mattresses so it suits a short family stay, we have plenty of toys around.
Lewes is a quirky town with lots of creative people in it and an interesting history. Lots of antique shops and beautiful South Downs all around.
  • I really enjoyed my stay. The room was nice and big, also very clean. Alison is a lovely host who made me very welcome.

    Aimee2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of the best places where I have been. Incredible atmosphere, great host! Recommend 100%!

    Olga2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A really comfy space, basically a music studio room with a cosy little alcove with a bed and bedside table. There's a desk and a mirror, a kettle and tea making stuff, and the bathroom next door is pretty much exclusively the guests own. So spacious at the top of the house, felt like a private flat. Alison made me feel very welcome and at home. And there's an adorable cat too!

  • Alison is a great host . The room is always very clean and cosy . It is very easy to communicate and she is very prompt in replies and instructions. Location is just perfect and right in heart of town . I was happy to stay there twice now . Would recommend.

Lewes is a uniquely characterful town with quirky independent shops and an incredible array of pubs, Georgian buildings, cobbled streets and a medieval castle. There's a local cinema / cafe / restaurant called the Depot which is just as good for hanging out as it is for seeing a film. You can easily lose hours in the vintage / antiques shops and local food markets (Fridays and first Saturday of the month). It's a vibrant place for all ages - famous for summer music festivals, Charleston's Speakers Festival and bonfire parades. At the bottom of our road, is a park perfect for kicking a ball and a playground. Other amenities include a local skatepark, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, tennis courts, churches, historic buildings, music recitals and gig venues (The Con Club two mins away is worth checking for listings). There are various websites (eg. Viva Lewes) where you can see what's on.
  • The Cottage is such a gem. It's rare to go to somewhere that you have never been before and feel totally at home, but my experience staying here was exactly that! The interior is decorated so tastefully, it made spending time here such a pleasure. I spent the week in total comfort and tranquility. Ed and Abi were kind and generous, checking in to see if I had everything I needed and whether they could do anything further for me. Couldn't recommend this place more!

    Rebecca2020-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • Warm, exceptionally clean, extensive information about the local area and very comfy. The small kitchen area has all that you will need, with a high spec microwave. Comfy bed on the loft area that my teenage son thought was "a mental space". Sofa bed was so easy to use and good quality bed linen

Light, spacious double room in quiet street, 5 minutes walk from Lewes town centre.
Caring for the environment is very important to me: almost everything is locally sourced where possible, organic and definitely chemical free; including the mattress, bedding and towels. It’s a double room on the ground floor of my victorian terraced house. Light and spacious with desk, chest of drawers & wood burning stove. Use of stove for folks who know how. Logs provided for first night, then £5 per bag or as needed. My adult son also lives here.
Quiet street close to town centre. There are lovely walks along the river a few minutes from the door step and lots of nice cafes and shops within short walking distance. In summer the house is ideally located within 2minutes walk of the pells pool, the uk's oldest documented outdoor, freshwater pool.
  • Grace's place is a special spot and she herself is a special lady with amazing energy and kindness. Her beautiful home always fills me with calm and peace, I keep wanting to come back.

The room is spacious with desk/ wifi and a very comfy bed. Lovely bathroom with a wonderful walk-in shower. The house is located centrally - not even a 10 minute walk from the station and within easy walking distance of the town centre and main amenities. I couldn't recommend this lovely house more. • Karin was a very friendly and helpful host! She provided me with a lot of helpful information even before my arrival and was helpful with any questions I had during my stay! It was a pleasant stay and a friendly, clean atmosphere! I couldn’t recommend it enough!

    Miriam2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I stayed 2 nights on Bonfire night. We came back to the house quite late both nights so the fact the room has it's own entrance is amazing! The bed was large and it has a TV with Netflix so we was able to watch a film in bed which was nice.. It was super clean and although we was not at all socialable due to being out the majority of the time, Karin was really friendly and welcoming and had great communication! She offered us breakfast and asked our preferences beforehand, although again, we didn't take her up on it due to being busy! Thank you Karin!! Will definitely stay there again when we're next in the area! :)

  • I had a great time at Karin's place and I was at the property for 3 nights. She and her husband were very polite and courteous. The room and ensuite were spick and span; the furniture was up to the mark. The washroom had all the toiletries. The room was also very well-lit and I had 24*7 access to a very effective WiFi. The breakfast was also filling with fruits and a variety of cereals. I would strongly recommend this AirBnB to everybody! Look forward to staying at this property again

The bathroom leads off from the kitchen and has a powerful shower over the bath.

There are two well stocked local 'corner' shops 5 minutes walk away. Lewes has lots of pubs and good places to eat, an award winning independent cinema, many sites of historical interest, parks and sports facilities.
  • This is a really comfortable place to stay and somewhere that I would stay again. The main room is warm and cosy and the sofas and bed comfortable. The sofa bed is so easy to unfold and fold back up, unlike some others I have wrestled with! The kitchen has great facilities and Sarah provides a brilliant range of food options. It’s the little touches that make a difference from the newly unfolding daffodils to the cosy water bottle to the blueberries for breakfast. And if you have to bunker down due to the passing storm as I did, there are a fantastic range of art (and other) books to keep you company. It feels like this is your home.

    Maria2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah’s home is just perfect for a visit to Lewes - only a short walk from the town in a peaceful neighbourhood. The accommodation itself was spotless and beautiful decorated - the paintings on the walls are stunning. The sofa bed was very comfortable and the kitchen and bathroom facilities were great. Sarah had added lots of thoughtful touches to make our stay special - cut flowers in vases, fresh food and drink in the fridge for breakfast as well as a vast array of cereals, bread, preserves, teas and coffee. The bathroom was well stocked with lovely bath products - Sarah even provided baby bath bubbles knowing we were coming with our seven week old daughter. Since we visited during Storm Ciara we didn’t get to make use of the outdoor space (!) but the terrace and garden looked beautiful. Thank you Sarah for being a brilliant host, we will be recommending you to our friends and family.

The kitchen was spacious and there was plenty of space to work at the table. There was lots of useful information and a good internet connection. Would most certainly recommend.

    Danny2019-11-10T00:00:00Z

This is a welcoming home in a quiet cul-de-sac off the vibrant Cliffe High street, 2 minutes walk from the beautiful South Downs. A second, larger, double room is available "Large Sunny Room with Cliffe View". Also the whole house "Charming Victorian Terraced House", sleeps 6 can be rented. Free Parking available and continental breakfast provided.
The double room includes a very comfortable small double bed, desk with mirror, chest of drawers and hanging space. It overlooks some beautiful, scented, pink roses. There is another larger double room available on Airbnb, "Large Sunny Room with Cliffe View", see other listing. Normally during the Summer months there is a two night minimum stay at weekends. The beds are very comfortable and I only use 100% cotton sheets. There is a bathroom with a bath/shower/sink and a separate loo and sink.
Lewes is a beautiful historic town with lots of character. I love the fact that it is small enough to walk around and from every corner you have amazing views of the south downs, the castle and the river and access to a huge variety of walks - hilly or flat. I have the advantage of living in a quiet street while at the same time being one minutes walk from a variety of restaurants, friendly traditional pubs, independent shops, cafes - and the original Bills. Harvey's brewery is also in the next street and you can walk across the downs to Glyndebourne Opera house. On a hot day you can nip down to Seaford for a swim in the sea or have one in Lewes's own outdoor pool, the oldest outdoor freshwater swimming pool in England. There is a large and eclectic musical and artistic scene and there is also a very good new three screened cinema built in the old Brewery, incorporating a café and comfortable seating areas, only 5 minutes walk away.

  • Jane was an amazing host and her lovely home was the perfect place to stay while I was in Lewes for a few days. The house had a unique charm and was perfectly situated next to the Highstreet and train station. Jane was a friendly host who was able to offer advice on what to do in the area and provided a great breakfast. Her delightful cat and piano made the experience even more delightful – I would highly recommend staying here if you’re in Lewes.

We are a few minute's walk from the railway station and heart of Lewes. We offer a peaceful double room, and single room, with use of an adjoining compact private shower room. IMPORTANT: From May to September the main room is let at the double rate (£80) on Friday and Saturday nights so please enter one guest only on those nights in the booking menu to avoid overpayment. The single bedroom is only available for a third guest if they are travelling in the same group.
We hope the photo does it justice - the double is a lovely light room, with views over the old churchyard to the trees beyond. The rooms are on the top floor (28 stairs from the ground floor ) with your own shower room on the same floor. The kitchen and garden are on the floor below street level . Please note that the shower room has been described by one guest as being challenging for those of a portly disposition! We mention this in case you find climbing stairs difficult, or have heavy luggage. The single room is at the rear and is south facing.
The house is within walking distance of all the interesting parts of Lewes.

  • A beautiful home in the centre of Lewes. The cottage was spacious and clean with all the amenities that we would need. It’s decorated beautifully and we felt right at home there. We visited so that we could go to nearby Charleston House but it was also very easy to explore Lewes on foot from the Cottage.

    Jessica2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • A well-appointed, clean cottage with all amenities. Close to Lewes centre for exploring the town, like Anne of Cleves house, the castle and the Priory. A nearby Waitrose for supermarket shopping. Close restaurants and pubs. Harvey's wine/beer shop is really close as is the Trading Roast coffee rooms (not sure about the name but just along from Harvey's). In the middle of the Downs too. Parking is easy and the host leaves permits which is really helpful. It had everthing that we could have wanted and we had a very relaxing stay.

  • Jeans house is such a charming, warm, cosy cottage that is in walking distance of the Lewes train station, the town centre, and the many wonderful pubs and attractions this small town has to offer. She was very easy to contact and always fast to respond. Jean's place is a perfect base from which to explore the wider sussex countryside, as well as the coast. We will be sure to be back soon!

Centrally located within a stone's throw of the castle ruins, ten minutes on foot from the railway station, opposite a big, leafy open space. There is a lovely garden on two levels, and easy access to the Downs on foot or by car or train.
This is a very simple space, one down, two up with steep stairs inside and steps to the garden outside (hold the hand rail!) It is a family home so everything is nice but not perfect. Cosy and comfortable in a friendly neighbourhood. Our neighbour next door will be your host for your stay.
  • This is a lovely quiet house on a quiet road overlooking a field of allotments. It is very centrally located to the amenities of Lewes High Street and the local supermarkets. If you want to experience the Lewes lifestyle this is certainly a good house to do so. The check in and communication was excellent, host lovely and the house and facilities were very clean. Hope to stay again.

    Alex2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • A great location, only a ten-minute from the train station. Quiet and comfortable. A lovely garden with table and chairs (up a short flight of stairs in back). Kitchen was well-equipped (even with a gas stovetop) and stocked with coffee, tea, fresh milk and rolls. Linny was gracious at check-in and available for questions later. Highly recommended.

    George2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly recommended - a superb location near the hub of the town, but slightly withdrawn by some allotments and a charming lane. The house is both intriguing, homely, and inspiringly arty. We had a really good night’s sleep here, and wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

    Jon2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • A really beautiful, cosy and colourful home in a peaceful and central part of Lewes. Both Alison and Linny were very helpful too. Highly recommended.

  • We had a lovely stay at this cottage. Perfect place to stay whilst visiting the lovely town of Lewes. Easy walking distance from the town centre. Very clean and comfortable. Friendly host who left us to it but was available if we'd needed her.

    Ruth2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Good and nice location. Nicely decorated

    Benoit2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great short stay at the cottage. It's very homely and in a wonderful location in beautiful Hythe. Linny met us and was very helpful even though we arrived later than expected and she needed to rush out to work. She also allowed us to stay for a later check out the following morning which was very kind. As a warning though (as others have said but we had not realised), the road is incredibly narrow and so are the parking spaces. We had a VW Golf and found that we could not park within the lines and that other drivers would not be able to get past our car. As a result, we went and parked elsewhere. Larger cars will certainly have a similar problem here, although it's very convenient parking if you have a small car.

    Amanda2019-08-08T00:00:00Z

The space consists of an annex to the main house and a separate garden room, situated in a quiet residential neighbourhood. You have your own front door to the annex with dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The garden room, we call it the cabin, is for sleeping and hanging out. There is decking outside with table and chairs, and your own garden. The South Downs is a two to three-minute walk away, Lewes Town centre is 1.3m with buses from the end of our street.
CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: 1. Our space is completely self-contained and separate from the main house. 2. We have self-check-in for when people arrive late. Usually, I would meet you to show you around but if you would prefer, just ask for self-check-in and I will send you all the details you need to be comfortable. 3. As well as the regular thorough clean, we now disinfect surfaces, door handles, and light switches before you arrive. We will start with the cabin as this is probably where you will spend most of your time while here. The cabin can be arranged with a king-size double bed or with twin beds - if you could let us know your preference that would be appreciated. We can also provide a floor mattress and a baby’s cot with bassinet and changing table. This makes the space suitable for a couple, a single person, a family of four or three adults sharing. There is provision for hanging and storing your clothes and a tea bar with a kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, herb teas, and long-life milk. There is also a mini-fridge that can store a small bottle of milk or a couple of canned drinks, it does make a very slight buzzing noise so some people may choose not to use it. There are two rattan chairs and a coffee table; a downlighter for reading by; and a Wi-fi signal for streaming TV on your laptop. Please note that the mobile phone signal can vary according to supplier and in some cases may not be available in the cabin. A chemical toilet (non-smelly!) is tucked behind a screen in the corner in case you need a pee in the night. Umbrellas are provided in case it rains. The cabin is set in your own garden area separated from the house by a large Jasmine hedge. There is decking outside the cabin with a table and chairs. The garden is mainly laid to lawn with an apple tree in the middle and a flower bed. A few strawberry and raspberry plants can be picked for breakfast when in season. There are torches provided in the cabin and the kitchen but there will be sufficient lighting at all times in the night for finding your way between cabin and annex. Down a few shallow steps from this garden, past the hedge, is the patio at the rear of the main house. This is a space that we will use. There is a pond contained behind a wall, no fish but you may see frogs or newts. The kitchen in the annex has a worktop stove with oven, grill, and hob combined. There is also a microwave oven, fridge, toaster, kettle and all the usual kitchen pots pans and utensils. We will provide a small bottle of milk in the fridge and tea, coffee, sugar, herb teas, and various condiments. There is also a manual with instructions for use of all the various appliances. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the kitchen for your use but these are also used by us and for stays longer than three nights we may ask to arrange access for us at your convenience. The bathroom includes a toilet, a small sink, and a shower. We will provide soap, shampoo and conditioner, and hand and bath towels for each of you. The dining room includes a table and chairs, plates, bowls, cutlery, pepper, and salt. We can provide a booster seat for infants to sit at the table with a child's plate and cutlery. There is Wi-fi available. At the front of the house, there is off-street parking for one car with free parking elsewhere on the street. There is a key safe by your front door for self-check-in when needed, though often we will be here to welcome you and show you around. We wish your stay to be pleasant and comfortable. Please let us know if there is anything you need that we can help with.
We are in a quiet residential area on the outskirts of Lewes. Access to the South Downs is a two to three-minute walk away. Lewes is a thriving, historical market town, popular with tourists, with small independent shops, restaurants, coffee houses, and supermarkets. The tidal River Ouse winds through the town. Brighton and the universities are easily accessible by car, bus or train. Rottingdean, Saltdean, Seaford, and Eastbourne are lovely coastal places to visit. Glyndebourne Opera House is close to Lewes. The Nevill Juvenile Bonfire parade passes right by the house with their firework display close by (for 2019 this will be on Saturday 16th November).
  • Arrived a day late, but Christopher was very understanding and helpful. Wasn't the best weekend for weather, but the quality of the place made up for that 10 fold. Would recommend!!

    Charlie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed staying here. Chris was there to welcome us and explain everything in the place. Both the annex and the cabin was equipped with all we needed and more, and we really appreciated all the extra touches. The location is a short drive away from the centre of Lewes, but you can also go on country walks on foot from the place itself. We stayed in February and the cabin was a little cold when we got back in the evening, but it quickly warmed up with a heater, and there were hot water bottles, blankets and exceptionally comfortable and warm bedding. We would thoroughly recommend staying here.

RELAUNCH !! £32/NIGHT YOUR OWN FLAT 20 MINS FROM BRIGHTON....Cosy studio flat located in the heart of Peacehaven, though very quiet at night... Pull down bed, sofa, tv , wi-fi all there to be used...chest of drawers for clothes all situated in the lounge.. Light , clean & colourful for sure ! Kitchen has cooker, fridge, microwave & washing machine facilities all available.... Bath, shower, sink & toilet in separate part of the flat where clothes rail situated... Double glazed throughout...
It’s a large/medium studio with separate bathroom and kitchen. The pulldown bed is a double and can be left down or pulled up for extra space..Dead easy to operate as is everything in the flat.
The flat is literally a stones throw from the Meridian Centre...This is where the bus terminus is and the Coop superstore resides. It opens from 7-10 so if you need to pop over for anything it’s a 1 minute walk... 10 minutes walk away are the cliff tops of Sussex. There are pathways down to the beach and sea. Brighton is 20 minutes away on the bus or car. It really needs no introduction, however for sports fans like me, I can tell you the Amex at Falmer is the same distance by car though getting the train from nearby Newhaven a good tip. Eastbourne is to the West about 12 miles away. Eastbourne Eagles Speedway at Arlington a great way to spend an evening. All of the area is pretty much on the South Downs Way so there are hundreds of country walks to be had.
  • Simon was very welcoming, showed us where to park, told us the best way to travel into Brighton, flat was clean and cozy, very affordable too

  • Great place that’s worth for it’s value and parking on the premises is alright as well. Very cosy neighbourhood and quiet, the apartment is also close by the supermarket! Enjoyed our stay here would recommend it it!

  • Simon was really welcoming and easy going about everything. The location was easy to get to Brighton from and very good value for money.

    Sasha2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very easy time staying at Simon’s place. The location was perfect for us. There were days when we just wanted to take it easy and Peacehaven is a lovely place to stroll around, stop at a cafe, and explore the Telscombe cliffs along the beach. We also had several days out to Brighton, Lewes, and Hastings, and buses were very accessible from Simon’s flat. His place has plenty of character which we also enjoyed - we were even inspired to make an evening of kicking back and revisiting our favorite obscure music of the 80’s. We would definitely be back if we ever find ourselves in the area again!

    Sarah2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy little spot, great for staying in the Brighton at a reasonable price. Simon was wonderful, even leaving bits like new toothbrushes in case you don't have one (which I didn't) makes the time there much better. It's his own home and he makes you feel like it is yours as well once you arrive. Great value and a wonderful chap!

A newly modernised spacious studio with separate kitchen & shower room. Towels provided. The studio is in the heart of the vibrant Cliffe area of Lewes between the river and the South Downs. Please note a minimum 2 night stay required.
The studio room is light and airy with two super comfortable beds which can be either used as twin beds or converted into a 5 foot / 1.52m. double bed. The flat is on the first floor of a Georgian fronted building. It is quiet but yet just behind the vibrant Cliffe area of Lewes with many good restaurants, antique shops etc. There is a good healthfood shop beneath selling everything from beans to shampoo!
Lewes is a wonderful town and visitors love the atmosphere and creativity. The flat is in the most 'villagey' part of town just a few doors along from the famous Bill's restaurant - the original one. There are at least 3 places within 1 minute's walk for delicious breakfasts.

Our hosts left us alone but responded very quickly to our questions, which was just the right balance. A great place for a romantic retreat, with walks from the cottage and a pub next door.

  • A truly lovely stay, gorgeous tea & scones on arrival which set the tone for a wonderful few days. The cottage is very warm & homely. It’s a perfect location for getting out & about. The little dog called in on us Sunday evening, I think she smelt the lamb we were cooking. She came in and was very friendly. The log burner was wonderful, we had it on both Saturday & Sunday evening. Really lovely cottage, full of character. Beautiful waking up to the fields out the back & even saw a few bunnies jumping around. Joy always replies with quick responses and allowed us extra time this morning to check out. Would thoroughly recommend

    Mark2018-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Trevellion is an amazing host!! I really enjoyed my stay there and spending time with him. I'd recommend him to everyone. He is very polite, nice and open-minded. I was lucky in meeting him because I had a really good time living there. Moreover, Saltdean is in a great position. Beautiful sunsets during the summer period and out from Brighton chaos but just 15minutes bus far from it (depending on the traffic). I couldn't ask for anything better :)

    Carlo2018-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Trevellion is amazing person, spending time with him is like be with family member. He was always cheerful to help and explain us anything what we did not understand. He cooked for us delicious eggs for breakfast. We really enjoy the time with him, I highly recommended.
