  • The Creekside Cottage is absolutely wonderful! It is such a cute, clean, and cozy space! We spent some time at the state park right down the road! I would highly recommend!

  • When I say Ken and Jodi's cabin was clean, I mean it. Positively spotless in every regard. Cute cabin, and much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. You'll have everything you need there, including a fireplace that puts out serious heat. Deer everywhere, and the sound of the creek to lull you to sleep. Highly recommended!

  • One of the most peaceful and welcoming airbnb's I've ever stayed at. Would definitely come back again.

    Tiffany2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at Ken And Jodi's house. We had everything that we needed and the house was very clean and well maintained. It was a great value. It's located right next door to Hungry Mother State Park and allowed us easy access for hiking. I would definitely recommend the house to others.

    Brian2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ken and Jodi provided everything we needed, when we asked for earlier access to the cabin we got a quick response and the go ahead to stop by. It was really generous of them to let us do that. For anyone worried about location or distance from Marion, the house is right outside the city limits sign (maybe a 7 minute drive) and sits beautifully nearby the park. There’s one neighbor we could see, but aside from a car passing we were completely alone. The house is next to a creak and it’s so nice to listen to. Nestled in between the woods, there was just about no-where else we’d have rather stayed. We made sure to take some photos while we were there haha The only thing I could say to look out for (if you’re not used to it) is the water. It seemed to be off of a well and had a bit of an odor. Again, not a problem, but if you’re really specific about your drinking water and aren’t used to that sort of thing - be sure to get some bottled water at the store or boil the tap water. There isn’t much else to add, it was a wonderful stay and the cabin provided the get away we were after while still being in short distance to the town. Coffee was available, so was WiFi which was comforting considering there was no cell reception with Verizon. The place was very clean and the bed incredibly comfortable. Thank you!

  • My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The little creek behind the house was beautiful and very relaxing. I especially loved the hammock chairs on the porch! The WiFi is slow but we were not there to be connected so it didn’t bother us.

    Amber2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Ken and Jodi’s place is a great place to stay when looking for a rural retreat. I loved the fireplace and the house was charming and cozy. A nice place to unwind and be in nature.

  • This place is amazing. Stay here and go see the beautiful little town of Marion or take a hike through Hungry Mother State Park

Enjoy a relaxing stay on our alpaca farm, Long Neck Lair, overlooking the picturesque Appalachian Trail. We offer a comfortable private room in our home for business travel or vacation/getaway travel. We share opportunities for our guests to interact with and learn about our alpacas. Convenient location off of I 81 at exit 54 on Route 11 N between Marion, Virginia and Wytheville, Virginia.
First floor room in our home has a private entrance and private bathroom. In room amenities include comfortable queen sofa bed, television, mini refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer.
Long Neck Lair is in a rural setting, yet conveniently located to the towns of Marion, VA and Wytheville, VA. Marion is a ten minute drive away and is home to Hungry Mother State Park and Lincoln Theatre. Wytheville is a fifteen minute drive away and offers museums, entertainment, and history. Both towns have restaurants and shopping. There are two restaurants within walking distance of our farm.
  • We spent a wonderful week on Cyndie & Ken's alpaca farm. This quiet spot on the Appalachian Trail is perfect for anyone looking for a nice getaway. The towns of Marion and Rural Retreat are close by, and have lots of great local spots, in addition to plenty of hiking trails. The room and attached bathroom were very clean. Although the sofa bed did sound like a small put-off, the mattress was very comfortable. The alpacas are friendly, (no spitting!) and will come up to the fence if you approach. We hope to stay again in summertime when they get their wool sheared.

    Nathan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cynthia’s place was very cute and felt like home away from home! Cynthia was very hospitable and welcoming. It was a pleasure meeting all the alpacas and cats. I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re ever in the area.

    Danielle2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • An awesome space and very gracious hosts. The alpacas are amazing! Very comfortable atmosphere plus good local tips.

  • Such a great host. Greeted at the door. Coffee made for us in the morning. Very sweet. Gave us great recommendations for the area. Easy to get too from highway. Great views. We will be back again. Thank you.

    Melissa2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Super neat place to stay! Loved drinking my morning coffee outside with the alpacas. We were able to book last minute (only a few hours prior) and we arrived very late. Cynthia was so kind and waited up for us. Awesome experience and highly recommend it.

    Hannah2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is now the second time I have stayed here with my husband, toddler, and dog, and we all absolutely love it. It’s so peaceful, I’m such a beautiful setting, and Cynthia and her husband are so great to talk to. Would stay a third time!

    Stephanie2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the best - alpacas, chickens, and dogs to enjoy, and a cozy place to rest! Wish we would have stayed longer!

Small cottage secluded on 31 private acres. 3 bedrooms (2 full beds; 2 twin beds). One bath with claw tub/shower. House built in 1929 by owner's grandfather. Comfortably furnished. Linens provided. Front porch and back deck. Playhouse for children.
Secluded, peaceful. Great place to stay for musicians interested in mountain music!
    Peaceful, quiet, safe.
  • Terrific hideaway for home base or quiet R&R. The house is amazing, full of wonders past into present. Enjoy the porch, the quiet, the breeze. Amelia is great with communication and the house is exactly (but better) as described. Great for solos or several.

    Nancy2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • For a girls road trip, this was a perfect little home away from home. A true gem in a small town with so much history, you have the entire place to yourself but are only minutes from practical amenities such as gas as food. We particularly enjoyed the privacy off the main road and saw chipmunks and deer each morning. Definitely an older place but that’s part of the charm of historic places. We would stay again if in the area!

    Elizabeth2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • The best

    Rick2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay at Granny's. It was the perfect home base as I explored the area and looked for a place I might buy as a permanent home. Tucked up and away from the road, you really get a sense of privacy - with the exception of the pond's occasional heron, a bald eagle flying overhead, or slow moving cows in the nearby pasture. Amelia was incredibly kind and helpful during our communications and interactions. Wi-Fi is good enough I could work remotely and end the day with the occasional Netflix binge. A truly special and lovely spot. Make sure to take a walk up the hill to get even more views of the rolling hills surrounding the area.

    Caroline2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Our third visit and this time for 2 weeks.

    Cindy2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here. I think we spent most of our time sitting on the front porch taking in the view, relaxing in the hammock, and enjoying the pond. Amelia went out of her way to make our stay wonderful!

    Lisa2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful house and land. A+ host! Could not ask for a better, more relaxing place! If you are looking for a peacfull mountain getaway, this is the spot. Lots of great hikes, trails and swimming near by too.

    Dan2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • As a person on the hunt for her own homestead, this place was 100% the type of place I aspire to one day have. The house is set far back from the road so you can’t see it, and passing cars can’t see you. The sound of cattle in the background and the occasional croak of a frog. A great porch to watch the clouds and appreciate the landscape. A field to walk in. And really good WiFi? I couldn’t have asked for anything more...I will say I had a very hard time finding the silverware but that’s because I’m a nincompoop (it’s very obviously on the kitchen table but I spent many minutes checking and re-checking drawers because I am silly).

  • This was a real treat! Wonderful renovated farm house, very stylish with comfortable beds and bathroom. The room is upstairs with 2 single beds- extremely comfortable and bathroom across from the beds. Super friendly, accommodating hosts. They gave us great tips on things, allowed us to sleep in beyond check-out time as there were no arriving guests and let us feed the alpacas. Great value for the price- we were delighted.

    Taryn2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Cynthia and her husband were very friendly and accommodating. The room was very cute and clean. We loved visiting with the alpacas too!

    Shelby2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in a sweet little room. The twin beds were very comfortable, and everyone was very kind to my dog, who traveled with us. A great recovery spot after some cold snowy days on the AT!

    Olie2019-12-10T00:00:00Z
  • Long Neck Lair is a wonderful Farm, perfect place to escape the city and reconnect with your Self. The Alpacas are so cool, I miss the friendliest, Winny and Sirius! Cynthia+Ken could not have been kinder or more patient (I was tired, cold and sniffley) Cannot wait to return... in the Springtime! Many thanks!

    Denise2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Our room was very clean and everything was in good repair. The house is a cross of stylish antique shop and museum. I would recommend to anyone. Cynthia was nice enough to bring us to meet and feed the alpacas, even though we were leaving early that day.

    Jeff2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely place Cynthia has! It was so cozy and warm. I arrived later in the evening after a full day of hiking and was treated to a wonderful shower and comfy bed. In the morning I got to visit with the chickens and alpacas and take in the autumn beauty on the back patio. A lovely stay!

    Kindra2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • The "Lair" is just a couple of minutes from the interstate, yet the back patio and hot tub look out over unspoiled mountain vistas. Cynthia and Norman are in the midst of dozens of projects, including the creation of a bunkhouse for AT hikers, so their creative chaos is all around, but our bedroom and bath were serene and peaceful. We had the use of a fridge and freezer, but cooking would have been awkward. The stairway to our room was long and steep, however I believe that there are first floor rooms available. We felt welcome and comfortable and certainly would stay there again.

Quiet private location in the woods with private path to the river
Like a time machine to the 1930's. All wood house and furniture. Old style plumbing. New electric. Gas stove for cooking Wood stove for heat (Electric and gas backup ) The cabin was built in 1920. Almost a century old. It was renovated in 1995 after Purchased by current owner. Please : No smoking inside the cabin. The driveway is very passable but some with low vehicle clearance have expressed I should give a heads up. If you’re not sure, you can walk down the driveway first. Plenty of Spare parking on the main raid which is part of the 70 acre parcel in which the cabin is situated. The river trail is over 50 miles long and no motorized traffic is allowed
No neighbors to bother you. Every Thursday night there is a free bluegrass performance at the local recreation center in Fries. Local talent. 7 to 9 pm
  • We decided to cap off a backpacking trip in Grayson Highlands by extending our trip at this cabin. If you are looking for quiet and secluded time in nature, this cabin certainly delivers. I enjoyed sitting on the porch and reading, building fires in the wood stove, and hiking down to and along The New River. The cabin was well decorated, and the kitchen had enough equipment that we were able to cook all the food we needed. Unfortunately, the shower was not working while we were there, but there was plenty of hot water for a more indulgent bath. James was very responsive to our messages and made sure that we were well accommodated. He even shared some of his chickens' eggs with us, which we enjoyed for breakfast. We would happily return again in the future if we find ourselves in the area again.

  • Couldn’t have loved this place more, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I was there.

    Hannah2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to rest and rewind. The hike to the river is awesome and I left feeling relaxed and uplifted. The property is gorgeous and the cabin has everything you need. It was a little cold the first week of March, but the host had a ton of firewood and I kept the wood burning stove going all week. I will definitely return next time I need an escape.

    Kelli2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a wintry girls weekend in this charming little cabin and we made memories we’ll cherish forever. Note that if you’re visiting in the winter it is quite cold - space heaters & the wood burning stove helped but it was still quite chilly. Also - we did feel a bit vulnerable in the evening. It’s a very remote location, and there’s not much in terms of security. But all in all it was the location of our dreams!

    Megan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • James’ cabin is absolute perfection. He has managed to create the ideal blend of simple, primitive cabin living with a dash of modern convenience. I can’t wait to return! Secluded, peaceful, and comfortable. Thank you for creating a lovely experience, James!

    Steve2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is a great find. It is a 1920 cabin overflowing with character. The creek is right beside the cabin so you can hear the water. It is spacious, very clean and had all the amenities we needed. We enjoyed the wood stove and there are additional heaters that kept us toasty. It was exactly as described. Great location, character, beautiful views and so peaceful. Great lighting with ample overhead lighting and lamps, extra blanket, plenty of bath towels, etc. A huge assortment of books for reading. There is a spice rack with some spices and a lovely cupboard with sugar, creamer, etc. Kitchen accessories were perfect - toaster, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, etc. There is a TV in the living room with ample seating. Front & back porch views are amazing! The path to the river is right beside the cabin. There is also a fire pit near the back porch. A great cabin for relaxing and enjoying nature. No phone service for our cell provider which we loved! James was an excellent host. So happy to find this gem. We’ll return for sure!

  • I had a great stay at Lee's cabin. The cabin is surrounded by nature and has trails in the back of the house which is a big plus. I definitely recommend this place for short and long stays. Lee is a great host, he responds immediately if you have any problems.

  • The Kozy Cabin does not disappoint! It is the perfect, quaint getaway for anyone who needs to just slow down for a bit. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the walking and hiking trails, as well as the gated deck for our puppy. We will absolutely be returning.

Enjoy a relaxing vacation in our secluded mountaintop cabin getaway. Tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains bordering Jefferson National Forest, this cabin is a cozy retreat with dynamite panoramic views. Spend your time sitting on the porch swing overlooking the Appalachian Mountain countryside. Glimpse the four highest peaks in Virginia, watch the hawks and eagles soar at eye level, and enjoy nature at its best.
Inside the cabin, you will find: -A small but fully outfitted kitchen with refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, dishes, utensils, pots and pans. -Living room with flat screen TV connected to Dish Network satellite with all the network stations as well as Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, and many more. -Unfortunately, we DO NOT provide internet at this time. However cell phone reception and data usage is confirmed to work well for U.S. Cellular and Verizon plans. (We do not have any knowledge of how well other carriers will work at this time.) -One full bathroom with shower and washer/dryer located on the ground floor adjacent to the kitchen. -Heating via baseboard heat. -Upstairs there are two small bedroom spaces; one bedroom with queen bed and the other bedroom with two twin beds. There are NO DOORS separating the bedrooms from each other or the staircase. -We will provide a starter amount of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, hand soap, and shampoo, however for longer stays you may need to purchase additional supplies. Outside the cabin, you will find: -Front porch with swing and two rocking chairs. -Picnic shelter with picnic table and gas barbecue grill. -Forested walking path along the ridge behind the cabin. -Scenic views of the countryside. You may spot some of the local wildlife including white tailed deer, wild turkey, raccoons, possums, hawks, and eagles. Although not as commonly seen, black bears, coyote, foxes, and snakes also live in the area. Also of note: -The drive to the property is somewhat of an adventure in of itself. You will be driving through curvy rural farmland roads with livestock including cows, sheep, horses, goats, and chickens in various fields. Please be cautious while driving; it is very common for livestock and/or wildlife to be in the road! You will be on paved road for the majority of the trip, but toward the end, this changes to a one lane gravel road as you climb up the mountain. The driveway to the cabin is steep, so we recommend front wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicles. -During winter months, reservations may be subject to cancellation due to safety concerns in the event of snow or ice on the road. -There are 4 steps up to the front porch, and there are 13 somewhat narrow steps inside up to the second floor bedrooms. -There is a cable gate (essentially a cable across the driveway) with combination padlock at the driveway entrance and keypad self check-in on the front door. (We will provide the codes and detailed driving directions prior to your stay. We strongly recommend you print this information prior to driving since there may be areas of spotty cell service.)
The town of Fries (pronounced "freeze") is about 15-20 minutes away from the cabin, along with two nearby access points for the New River Trail. The New River Trail State Park is a linear park running 57 miles including 39 miles that parallels the scenic and historic New River along what had previously been a railroad track. The trail is relatively flat and includes trestle bridges, tunnels, small waterfalls, and other beautiful woodland scenery enjoyable to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders of all ages. The nearest stores for groceries and supplies would be the Star Market (~15 minutes) and Dollar General Store (~20 minutes) in Fries, VA. There are larger grocery stores and a Super Wal-Mart located in Galax, VA (~35 minutes). We would recommend picking up supplies on your way to the cabin to save time. About 20 minutes away, across from one of the more scenic New River Trail access points, you will find "New River Outdoor Adventures." This is a local company that provides shuttle services and rentals for canoes, kayaks, tubes, biking, fishing, etc. They also sell live bait and tackle for all your fishing needs, as well as fishing and hunting licenses (either short or long term). If you call (276)237-TUBE(8823) they will customize whatever adventure you might want for your group. The city of Galax is about a 30 minute drive. Within Galax, you will find many restaurants, fast food options, antique stores, a quaint walkable downtown area, a small movie theater, bowling alley, and of course Super Wal-Mart, among other amenities. Galax also happens to be home to the largest and oldest running Old Time Bluegrass Fiddler’s Convention, which takes place annually in August since 1935. But don't worry, the entire Appalachian region is known for Bluegrass and traditional "old-timey" music which can be enjoyed year-round. The Rex Theater in Galax, VA hosts weekly live music and other special events. The Fries historic theater in Fries, VA also hosts weekly Thursday night Bluegrass "jam sessions" and other special events. The wonderful Blue Ridge Music Center can be found on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 213. This facility includes a large outdoor amphitheater with summer concert series, an award winning music museum of old-time music, and daily display of free music from local musicians. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is only 22 miles away, or about a 35 minute drive. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina and is one of the most visited properties of the National Park System. The Parkway offers something for everyone including scenic drives, mountain views, biking/hiking/equestrian trails, waterfalls and swimming holes, historic farmsteads and museums, cultural exhibits, and much more. Grayson Highlands State Park is a longer trek, about 45 miles (or ~70 minutes) drive away from the cabin. This park serves as gateway to the state’s highest peak, Mount Rogers, as well as the Appalachian Trail and the Grayson Highlands. The park offers hiking trails, biking trails, horse riding trails, bouldering, fishing, boating, and the chance to encounter wild ponies.
  • Photos do not do the view justice. Porch swing is incredible. Fantastic getaway. I hope to return soon!

  • If you want privacy, incredible views and a cozy place to come back to after hiking, this is the perfect place. I got a surprise snow storm while up there but had no issues and enjoyed myself during a much needed retreat.

  • I would highly recommend this air bnb. Host kept house very clean and had detailed instructions of the location. She answered my phone call and help with all questions I had prior to stay. Very sweet lady with an incredible place to stay!

  • The view here was breathtaking. I stopped in for a few nights while I was working in a nearby town. I would love to visit this location multiple times in the future especially on vacation!

    Bronek2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful Cabin, just the right size. Everything you need for a secluded getaway. Amazing views!

    Todd2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin! It was clean, cozy, and the view was spectacular! Make sure you stop at a grocery store before getting to the cabin as it a good drive from the nearest grocery store and everything closes pretty early in the nearby town. I think it would be very convenient if there were a small welcoming basket awaiting you upon arrival. This could include things such as bottled water, coffee, and a few snacks; especially for those who are driving from far away and getting in late. There was a coffee maker and coffee creamer, but no coffee so we had to leave the next morning and drive about 45 minutes round trip to get coffee. This is obviously not a big deal and the host does say in the description to bring your own food. It is just nice when Airbnb hosts go the extra mile to make you feel welcome, which those items suggested above do and are relatively inexpensive. Other than that, the stay was great. Just make sure you come prepared!

    Jeff2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cannot beat the view. Amazing value and even a better host. Prompt replies, thorough instructions for check in and check out was easy. Cannot wait to be back

  • Amazing sunset view right in front of the cabin which is located on top of the mountains. It's incredible how nice the landscape looks like all around. Very easy to arrive, my gps took me right at the cabin, no issues at all in finding the location. Very easy check in. Very clean space inside/outside. We had signal on our phones all the time. Tv is full of channels. My favorite thing to do was to stay on the porch and admire the surroundings. Very quiet place to be if you are looking to relax far away from everything. Nobody bothered us during our staying. I highly recommend it and definitely I will go back soon. Thank you Loren for your quick and helpful answers!

New, modern rustic cabin that backs up to Grayson Highlands State Park. Be prepared for stargazing and cool refreshing nights. Minutes from Grayson Highlands State Park and the Creeper Trail. All the modern conveniences in a rural setting.
The cabin is a traditional full dovetail Appalachian cabin constructed of white pine. The cabin is around 600 ft.² with a full bathroom, full kitchen/dining area, loft bedroom area. The structure has a covered vaulted front porch and rear porch. There are many amenities to make the guest feel more at home Including towels, linens for the beds, soap/shampoo, cooking utensils, pots/pans and anything else you would need for cooking a good meal. We have a Weber kettle grill on the back porch for grilling out as well. In addition, we provide complementary coffee and a bundle of firewood for the outdoor pit.
The cabin is located in the perfect proximity to both Grayson Highlands State Park, the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, and the Creeper Trail. The cabin is also located within proximity to Lansing, West Jefferson and Damascus. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, this is the great location to get away and enjoying nature while still enjoying the comforts of home.
  • This cabin is absolutely beautiful. You will not be disappointed.

    Liz2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay here! Very close to Grayson Highlands (wild ponies! excellent hiking!) and thoughtful touches like homemade soap...and the best bathtub! The cabin is very clean and in a lovely, secluded spot. Beware of the very steep dirt/gravel road...might not be great without all-wheel drive.

    Margaret2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great two-night stay at Jon's cabin. It was exactly what I needed - a quiet escape, close to my hiking trails (15 minutes to Grayson Highlands), and a beautiful space with everything I needed - warmth, comfort, great touches and a bathtub to relax after a long hike. I loved it and hope to come back some day!

    Peter2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at this place was great! Jon gave us a great heads up about some snow falling the night before arrival and made sure that we were able to still get into the cabin. The steep driveway wasn't too bad with my 4x4 truck. The location was incredible, as it only took 20 minutes to get to the trailhead leading to Mt. Rodgers. We thoroughly enjoyed hiking Mt. Rodgers, and the cabin was an excellent place to warm up after that hike!

    Ashe2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely secluded, cozy, quiet & clean cabin! If you long for solitude with no other residences in sight, then here you are! PERFECT! Just what we needed! We could not see one light out there anywhere after dark. (Except for the moon & stars.) NOT ONE!!! Incredible! While the driveway is certainly steep & long, it is in great shape. We never had to use 4wd at all in our truck. We picked up a couple of inches of snow at the cabin yesterday (2-27-20), but it all melted off by the day`s end, so we did not have to drive on it. The little stove packs a powerful punch! Incredible amount of heat given for such a small amount of wood burned! We literally opened windows multiple times to keep the temperature down to 70! IMPRESSIVE! The only thing that we saw & heard apart from nature, was occasional vehicles winding slowly up/down the rough road above the cabin mostly to access tree farms. One of our favorite stays ever! Thanks Jon!

    Gerone2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin more than exceeded our expectations. If you are looking for a secluded getaway this is the cabin for you. My wife and I had such a great time and Jon was a awesome host, he answered all my questions and even was nice enough to give us a heads up on some inclement weather in the area before our drive up. We can’t wait to go back!

    Aj2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Took my wife up for an adventure to find snow. Found it! Can’t beat the secludedness of the place. Warm little cabin for sure. We’ll definitely go back!

Brand new cabin in a beautiful valley nestled in the Southwest VA mountains. Come relax in peace and quiet. The cabin is located in a beautiful spot on our working family farm facing the north side of Walker Mountain.
Take a break from life. Get away. Come relax in solitude or with your spouse. Reconnect with nature. Breathe in that fresh air. Observe wildlife and get a taste of life on the farm.
We are about a mile off of Hwy 16 (Back of the Dragon). About 10 miles from Hungry Mother State Park (hiking, fishing, beach, zip lining...). We’re 25 minutes from Marion where there is an adorable Main Street with shops and eateries. We are about 45 minutes from Abingdon (Barter Theatre, antique shopping, dining...).
  • The stay was absolutely perfect! If you want a quiet, secluded, comfortable stay this is the place for you! The fresh steaks are also a must, the kitchen has everything you need! Will be back for sure!

  • Beautiful cabin in a beautiful location. Loved the hospitality. Definitely want to stay again

    Colleen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • I have used Air BnB for several years now. This was, by far, the best hospitality we have experienced. The cabin was perfect, the bed was amazingly comfortable, the kitchen had everything you need, and Amy was the best host we have ever had. We had a personal issue that delayed us and she was very understanding as well as helpful. The fresh meats and eggs are well worth it. It was the perfect anniversary weekend for us.

    Shelley2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Amy and Will have the perfect getaway to a quite place with an amazing view. The cabin is beautiful inside and out! The hot tub was a great relaxation to have while soaking up the view of the mountains. Would recommend to everyone! We will for sure be back!

    Reinee2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect getaway. The cabin had everything we needed and more for a relaxing stay. I HIGHLY recommend booking if you like what you see because it's even better in person. We traveled from Baltimore and will be back!

    Jessica2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a treat! We just got back from our time at Amy and Will's cabin and we want to drive right back. Such a relaxing and peaceful time to spend with each other for New Year. The hot tub was an added plus! The nearest town is on the other side of a mountain...so if you aren't fans of driving on small winding roads, grab your groceries before you get there and plan to stay there! We will definitely be back.

    Taylor2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Rich Valley Cabin! All the little things that we didn't think about were there (ex. Grilling supplies, kitchen gagets). I highly recommend purchasing meat as well. The grass fed steaks were the best I have ever tasted! Amy was quick to respond to questions. There was no cell service or wifi at this cabin, so make sure you are willing to be off the grid durning your stay. The perfect retreat! Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

    Clara2019-12-29T00:00:00Z

You have traveled, you have explored. You have stayed in many places! Now its time to stay in one of the coolest locations you never knew existed. Stay in the top of a Silo! The Silo was finished in Nov 2018. We’ve been renovating this old 1950’s dairy barn/silo since 2013. The Silo has 4 floors and the top 2 are yours! There is a living room on the third floor (and bathroom) and bedroom at the very top with windows all around and 360 degree view ! Also your own private deck off the bedroom.
We bought and have been renovating an old dairy barn since 2013. We had a goal to renovate the attached silo into a beautiful place people could come and enjoy. The silo itself is 4 stories. The top two floors are your living spaces. A living room and private bathroom with a bedroom on top. The rooms are circular, the original shape of the silo. The bedroom has windows that go all the way around the top for a stunning 360 degree view of the mountains and valley. It is an experience you will never forget! Breakfast is not included, however, there is a screened- in full kitchen for you to use anytime. The refrigerator will be stocked with fresh eggs, bacon, butter, oatmeal, grits and coffee/cream. HOWEVER, the outdoor kitchen is closed Nov-April due to weather conditions but there are restaurants in town. NOTE: This is a tall Silo. There are 15 steps to the entrance ( living area) and 12 more interior steps to the bedroom. ***We also have 2 other Suites available: Creekside Bungalow, sleeps 4 Rustic Rooster Room, sleeps 6
***Many things to do in Independence, VA! -Fire pit for night relaxation and s'mores. -Hiking in Grayson County, Grayson -Highlands Park, Creekside Trail in Galax, VA -Biking the Creeper Trail in Damascus, VA down a 17 mile old retired train railway......AWESOME! -New River Kayaking -Horseback Riding -Blue Ridge Parkway -Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. -Changing of the leaves in Autumn -Crooked Road Music Trail -Grayson Highlands State Park -Galax Home of the Old Time Fiddlers Convention (Second week in August) -Smoke on the Mountain Festival in July. (Galax, VA) BBQ cook off contest. -Mountain Foliage Festival and Grand Privy Races in Independence in mid-Oct. (Outhouse races) -Oak Hill Academy
  • This was our second time staying at the silo and both experiences were outstanding. There's so many ways you can enjoy your experience at the Silo. From quiet country serenity to soaking in the natural beauty hiking in nearby Grayson Highlands State Park, we had a wonderful time. When you step into the Silo you can sense the love and meticulous craftsmanship that went into building and decorating it. Karen is a wonderful host with so much energy and a great sense of creativity and fun that is reflected both inside and outside. We can't wait to come back again, and we're sure you will feel the same way too after your visit.

  • Karen and Bill are architectural geniuses! This place is amazing! Many thoughtful touches! Amazing 360 degree view of the moon! Will definitely visit again!

  • You may be reading all the reviews and thinking to yourself is it really THAT magical and lovely? And the answer is unequivocally, without a doubt 10000% yes! The property is beautiful and serene, the silo is stylish and unique and fun, and Karen and her family are incredibly welcoming and lovely! I can’t recommend this place enough. It was the perfect relaxing getaway. The story of how the place came to be is amazing and makes you appreciate it that much more. If you are looking for one-of-a-kind accommodations where you can unwind, do yourself a favor and book here. You’ll also have access to great hiking about 45 minutes away in Grayson Highlands State Park! We are already planning our return trip.

    Georgeann2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you have stumbled upon this Hallmark gem you should consider yourself lucky and book immediately. Even the drive to The Silo is one that makes you take pause and soak in the open spaces. Upon arrival to our Dream Getaway, we were greeted by the most enthusiastic cats. Karen and Bill are the loveliest people who invite you into the magical world that they have created filled with fresh air, unmatched craftsmanship and a 360 view from your bed (and a balcony overlook!) make you want to cry from its beauty. The stunning hiking trail of Grayson Highlands State Park was gorgeous in the winter season with a frosted dusting on everything (and we are eager for our next trip back to see everything in bloom). There is a story and purpose in every cozy detail and we are so appreciative to have gotten to live the experience.

    Bree2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed in the silo for a few days for a winter vacation and this place was just AMAZING!! Having the rays of sun wake you up each morning and falling asleep to the moonlight it doesn't get much better. The hosts are very welcoming and easy to chat with. The Christmas decorations made you feel like you stepped right into a hallmark movie which I love. The place is only about 20 to 30 minutes away from all kinds of shops and resturants. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to truely relax in the country side. We hope to visit again.

    Sondra2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • I've been staying at B & B's for over 5 years and have found Karen's Dream Rock Silo to be the best. The location, incredible view of they're creek, mountains, and the warm feeling of being "home" as you relax in your comfortable space, makes for great experiences in themselves. Karen and Bill made us feel like family. This was truly a hallmark experience.

    William2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was my best Airbnb experience ever, the place was well designed and very detail was thought of very carefully. Plus, Karen and Bill were an outstanding hosts.

Camping on the New River about a 5 minute walk to the New River Trail and State Park Fire pit Beautiful view of river Road is smooth but: NEED 4 wheel drive for campsite Two wheel drive for camping shelter Shelter has power, light and fridge. Cold water from hose Or can walk to site Rent to only one group at a time for privacy
It’s at the end of Whipporwill Ridge in a forested area next to the river. Go to the end of Whipporwill Ridge , Fries, Va and someone will meet you there to show you around
  • James' place was wonderful. We booked it super last minute and got there just before dark, and he met us at the parking space and showed us to the cabin. There was an outlet with a bright light, a mini-fridge thoughfully stocked with waterbottles, a hose and faucet nearby, an outhouse, a shower. a charcoal grill, a firepit, and some pre-cut firewood! Very thoughful. We didn't actually stay in the campsight, since our car didn't have 4 wheel drive, but the shelter space was wonderful. We just pitched out tent in the shelter, which worked out well! (note: there are two possible campsights--up by the shelter/fridge area and then about a 5-min downhill walk to the actual campsight). We loved it and hope to be back someday!

  • The address listed on Airbnb is not the correct address and it was very disappointing to have to drive an additional 45 min

    Michelle2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at the 4wd accessible location on their property. Clean campsite with a small fireplace. Short walk down the hill from there takes you to a walking path along the river.

    Andrew2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Glamping at its finest. Amazing view, adorable structure, private and comfy. (Even the outhouse is kinda cute.) Took the dogs down the path to the river. Spotted deer in the forest, watched fog creep up the valley, dive-bombed by so many ladybugs we ran out of wishes. Will be back next autumn to be sure!

    Jessie2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is perfect for anyone wanting complete privacy and beautiful views. The outdoor shower was so cute and fully functional. The mini fridge stocked with water was a nice touch. Would recommend to any of my friends! Also it’s only an hour away from Grayson Hylands Park!

    Laci2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place was very neat, off the beaten path a little but the drive to get there is beautiful. The view of the water and nice touches like a mini-fridge and fire pit made our stay even more enjoyable. Will definitely be returning sometime soon.

    Tyler2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I even start!! We had an amazing weekend at the camping shelter at James place! With amazing views, a beautiful trail that leads down to the river and a night sky full of millions of stars it was the perfect get away for us!! I highly recommend this little piece of paradise that’s tucked away in the country to anyone looking for a beautiful spot to unwind and enjoy nature! The only down fall that I can think of, is that we didn’t book it for longer!! We will absolutely be back for another visit very soon!!

    Cindy2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful experience! We met James at the top of the road where we followed his vehicle down a dirt road surrounded by wildflowers and stopped at the site with the wood structure. It had everything we needed and more. A pitched tent with a padded sleeping surface, Electricity, a (stocked!) mini fridge, matches, outhouse, outdoor shower, and grill. The structure overlooks the river and it’s literally picture perfect. We only stayed one night, but would have definitely stayed more. Definitely a luxury camping experience...great for inexperienced campers!

It's convenient to get to several nearby state parks and even though it's located in a rural area, all the amenities you could want and some great restaurants are just a few minutes away. • If you are looking for a place to get away from it all at a good value this is it. Fresh eggs were good and I enjoyed hiking to the New River Trail from the property. James is an excellent host.

  • We enjoyed staying at James’s place. The house was very clean, beds were comfortable and he left us farm fresh eggs and water. The eggs were delicious!! The house is not far from town and it is very close (less than 1/4 mile) to the Double AA market where you can get an amazing breakfast for a reasonable price. The store also offers fresh meat and produce. We rode 46 miles on the New River Trail, if you are a hiker, biker or like to ride horses, this is the trail for you! We were very happy staying at this home. I highly recommend it.

The eggs were delicious!! We enjoyed biking the New River Trail and we enjoyed all the nice people that we met. James was very quick to answer any questions that we had and was an awesome host! I highly recommend staying at any of James’s rentals!

  • Nice spot to use as an anchor whilst exploring the area - the New River is very nearby. The complementary eggs were a lovely touch - such rich golden yolks! WiFi was good and I even got cell service (a rarity in much of Grayson County). Wished I had an apple or carrot for the neighboring horses!

This quaint, warm cabin in scenic, serene Elk Creek is located on the mountain up a gravel road on 5 wooded acres. The area is loaded with wild turkey and deer, and the occasional bear. This is the perfect getaway for nature lovers, hikers, hunters, fishers, bluegrass music enthusiasts, or anyone simply looking to disconnect from technology and the busyness of life. Roast marshmallows in the fire pit, grill out on our charcoal grill, rock on the front porch, or fish just 1 mile from the cabin.
This cabin is very special to my family. It was built by my papa and several others in our family. We have shared many fond memories here and hope you will too. Our cabin is a rustic getaway for those seeking adventure, privacy, and peace. There is little to no cell reception, unless in town. We also do not have wifi or cable. This is a place to connect with loved ones instead of technology. We do have a tv and a dvd collection, and games! We recently had tree work done, a new roof installed, new back steps, and had some wood rot repaired. Exterior paint is coming soon!
The cabin is located up a winding gravel mountain road full of beautiful scenery near the historic site where Caty Sage was said to have been kidnapped. The road is bumpy, but doesn't require 4 wheel drive. You DO need 4 wheel drive if visiting while snow is on the ground. Our cabin is a rustic getaway for those seeking adventure, privacy, and peace.
  • Everything was exactly as stated in all the details about the cabin. My family and I were very happy with our stay. I recommend this cabin if you are seriously looking for relaxation, peace and quiet!

    Todd2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful cabin to relax and enjoy some relaxing time. The cabin had 2 full bedrooms, one bath and space for 6 to stay. The property is large, and the house includes a front and back (screened in) porch. There is also a fire pit behind the house. The kitchen has full appliances to cook if you choose to do so. The house has a TV with a DVD player and nothing more. It’s what you should do on a nice trip such as this: disconnect, relax, and have no use for WiFi of cell service. Communication was great, quick, and thorough. Would highly recommend to anybody looking for a relaxing weekend. Hikes and outdoor walks are available in driving distance.

    Craig2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was an excellent place to stay and we look forward to staying again ASAP.

  • Great cozy spot to unplug!

    Hannah2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to visit for the weekend. Very relaxing, calm and quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and the cabin was very clean. Kayla made our rental process and stay very simple and enjoyable.

    Nick2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Secluded cabin in the beautiful mountains! We saw deer, lovely sunsets, and wild turkeys! We loved grilling out and then relaxing by the campfire. Kayla provides many brochures of local attractions and this was so helpful for us to enjoy our impromptu “hurrication” as we fled from Hurricane Dorian. We would definitely recommend this cabin to those looking for peace and quiet and/or quality time with loved ones.

    Felicia2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is absolutely amazing. It’s peaceful and serene with a screened porch and a fire pit. The stars are gorgeous without city lights. It had everything we needed.

We have been renovating an old 1950's dairy barn for the past 5 years. We fell in love with this location because the barn is set in a beautiful valley in the Appalachian Mountains. You have to drive through the creek to get to the barn. We built this private bungalow on the creekside of the barn with its private entrance. It is close enough to the creek to hear it from your bedroom window. *** We also have 2 other Suites available: Dream Rock Silo, sleeps 2 Rustic Rooster Room, sleeps 6
We have been renovating our barn and silo (ourselves) since 2013. We love the space we have created here. Outside, you can expect beautiful mountain scenery and a peaceful atmosphere, with a calming creek next to your bungalow. And the landscaping and creek rock walls are outstanding! The bungalow has its own entrance. There is a bathroom with stand up shower , full kitchen and living area. There is 1 separate bedroom with a queen size bed. In the living room the futon make a double/full size bed, so the bungalow sleeps 4. ***We also have 2 other Suites available: Dream Rock Silo, sleeps 2 Rustic Rooster Room, sleeps 6

  • Karen and her husband have built a lifes work here and decided to share with others. They were the kindest and most considerate hosts and their spaces were cozy and very thoughtful. Thank you so much for sharing this special place.

    Rachel2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Karen went above and beyond. When I first met her I thought she was extremely sweet. A few months ago I was trying to find somewhere to elope in the mountains and when I asked her about ideas she offered to let us have it there. By all means she is like family and I can't imagine my life without her and her Dream Rock Silo. My husband and I will always come back!

    Sarah2019-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is my second time back, and it will absolutely not be my last visit to Dream Rock Silo. And again, like I did in August, I stayed at the Creekside Bungalow. Sitting by the rushing creek on my favorite bench, steps away from the bungalow, provided such a restful sense of peace. This magical place has completely changed, for me, the definition of "vacation." When I am here, surrounded by mountains and incredible, pastoral views of countless acres of pastureland, with complete silence other than the melodic symphony of the ever-flowing creek, chirping birds, and winter's breath of chilled wind, my "me time" is more of a holistic sabbatical rest physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Grayson Highlands is one of several great hiking spots less than 30 minutes drive away. The Dream Rock Silo property is tucked away about a mile or two off the main highway, on great, well-maintained gravel roads, which also make for terrific early morning or sunset jogs or walks. My whole being exhales "ahhhhh" in pure, tranquil delight...so much so, that I have already reserved multiple trips for this coming year, even though, the easy commute is 5.5 hours from Chattanooga. Well worth the journey. Every. Single. Time. This slice of heaven, has once again set the standard of what a great AirBnB stay should be, thanks to the wonderful hosts, Karen and Bill, who consistently make me feel like I have come "home." I am, without question, grateful.

    Marta2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This has to be one of the BEST Airbnb’s I have ever had the pleasure of staying in! Karen and Bill have made a unique, cozy and beautiful space to share and we will certainly be back.

    Brianna2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you need a peaceful and relaxing getaway with a unique touch, Dream Rock Silo is the place to go. Karen and Bill are excellent hosts. You can see how much hard work and love they have put into their place. We appreciated them sharing their beautiful home. They were always available, quick to respond and provide recommendations, if needed, but also gave us our privacy. The Creekside Bungalow was perfect for my husband and I. We enjoyed relaxing in the rocking chairs on the porch and listening to the water flowing through the creek. There were also great hiking trails with incredible views nearby that we enjoyed as well. We hope to return to Dream Rock again soon.

  • This is a beautiful place to stay nestled in the rolling mountains of rural Virginia. Perfect place to be close to nature but enjoy a comfortable place to stay. Karen and her partner are super friendly and have made a really lovely spot with their renovated barn. We arrived late but they thoughtfully left us fresh eggs from their chickens and bacon so we'd have breakfast the next morning. The cows grazing nextdoor and the well landscaped garden and creek make this a perfect place to relax. There's also a short hike one can do on the property. Independence is the local town (15 mins away) and had a fun farmers market we went to. Karen was up on all the local events and had helpful tips. They also had a firepit with smores going that evening which was really lovely. Hope to come back!

  • Kare is a great host! She made us feel at home and part of her extended family. The room is great, has everything that we need, even Wi-fi ;) My family hopes to get back there soon as we enjoyed a lot the time there.

  • We had an amazing time in the rooster room over New Years, the place is lovely with plenty of little extra touches that enhance your stay! Our 3 year old daughter was so happy to feed the chickens, play with the dogs and cats and just be out in the lovely garden. We really look forward to come back in spring!!

  • Dream Rock Silo is literally what dreams are made of! Karen went above and beyond to make everyone feel special and have a wonderful time. So many thoughtful touches throughout that were just for us. Everything all over the property has clearly been well thought out and just so unique and fun. We loved it and hope we can book again if she ever has any openings after the word gets out about this magical place!

    Katie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • I've stayed on a flower farm in Maui and an oceanfront villa in Jamaica. I've seen some incredible sights but NOTHING holds a candle to what my family and I experienced at Dream Rock Silo this past weekend. The location was perfect, the grounds were breathtaking and the accommodations were gorgeous (and so thoughtfully decorated!) but the real magic of this place lies in the family behind it. I've never felt more at home or welcomed than they made me feel. I could write a novel about this oasis, but words can't possibly do it justice. Do yourself a favor and discover this getaway for yourself!

    Courtney2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Karen is wonderful and the property is even more beautiful in person! The place was spotless! It was my friends birthday and Karen planned something special just as a thank you for staying with her. Everything was a hit and I would recommend this place to a friend. When people find out about this place, its likely they will stay completely booked and people will have to plan much further in advance than I did. Thanks again Karen and family!

    Debbie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The Dream Rock Silo is truly an amazing place inside and out. After reading the newly featured article in the local paper and getting the full tour of the place it really made us appreciate not only Bill and Karen as people but their story on how the place started and all the work they have put into it. Everywhere you look on the property you can tell they have busted their butts on making their dreams come alive. Their attention to details will really blow you away. The landscaping is beautiful with colorful flowers everywhere and the sound of the creek alone will make you feel so relaxed and welcomed. It took no time at all to know that we wanted to come back as soon as we could. If you are looking to stay at this masterpiece, don't hesitate to book any of the rooms because you will not regret it. It's a beautiful place with beautiful people who are masters at their crafts.

It was so relaxing. Amy’s place was clean and had everything we needed, including a decent pan to fry an egg in, which is appreciated! A nice quiet stay, close to Grayson Highlights and outdoor fun. We plan to go back and stay again.

And they even left some snacks for us - super thoughtful! And they were very accommodating as far as check-in and check-out. We will definitely be returning. :)

  • The cabin was completely charming while also having the modern conveniences of a huge TV and good wifi. The kitchen was great and we cooked a lot. Deer came by regularly and the back "yard" is just wonderful. There was a fully stocked and ready fire pit waiting for us when we arrived, which we made good use of.

Cattle Creek is a wonderful destination for anyone who desires to get away to a place that feels just like the "good ol' days". Our rustic farmhouse dates back to the early 1800's, and still has a lot of it's original structure and character. Stay overnight, enjoy a weekend, or rent Cattle Creek for a week to really immerse in the culture and activities of Wytheville, Virginia. Our cabin is located on a working sheep and cattle ranch, and is perfectly placed along-side Reed Creek.
Cattle Creek has three spacious bedrooms and three full bathrooms. The house has a large dining area, and a newly updated kitchen. The living room is located on the first floor inside the original part of the cabin. We offer clean linens, coffee, and basic toiletries. There are two kayaks for the adventurous, as well as close proximity to many hiking trails.
Cattle Creek is located about 45 minutes away from Virginia Tech, and about 90 minutes away from Bristol Raceway. We have many local historical sites, wineries, hiking trails, restaurants, and Wolfhart Haus dinner theater.
  • If you can’t relax here, there’s something wrong with you. ☺️It’s the most beautiful, calm and peaceful place we have ever stayed. It comfortably slept 2 couples and 3 other adults and had room for more. The place was spotless and well equipped. I’d go out of my way to try and come back to this area just to stay here. Carrie is a great, thoughtful and helpful host!! Easy to get ahold of too! A+++

    Joe2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Carrie the host was amazing as was communication between us since we were arriving late. It was an incredible one night experience at this beautifully restored rustic home...I felt as if though I stepped back in time to my childhood days in my country of Poland, of course with much better amenities than the outhouse back in the old country! I must make it a point to stay longer next time to enjoy the outdoor beauty! I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for privacy, peace and a time to reflect and get in tune with nature. Great for a family reunion, a girls or guys weekend away or a romantic getaway. Super great experience!

    Halina2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The farmhouse is charming, clean, spacious, and comfortable. We loved the cabin and walking around the grounds and enjoying the peaceful setting. Carrie was a great host and very responsive. We look forward to returning again.

  • Beautiful historic log cabin with lots of country charm. Tons of space indoors and out. Carrie was very friendly and helpful.

    Tim2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for an escape this is the place!! Secluded and private. Cozy and quaint. Words can't really describe it and pictures dont do it justice. A true farm so enjoy the ride down a long dirt road past the pastures and farm houses until you reach the cabin at the end. Fire pit by the creek, large outside deck area and porch area.

    Colette2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This farmhouse is beautiful- and a great deal! Close enough to the interstate to be incredibly convenient (we were just stopping on our way to see family at Christmas), but definitely in the country. The space is huge, but homey. Very welcoming, comfortable beds, nice showers. We will definitely be back!

    Sarah2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Reminded me of the working farms back in Mississippi without the hills. Carrie met us there around 9pm with her family and showed us the house. We had stopped for gas just before arriving and wished we had bought groceries then as the house has everything but food. A dirt farm road leads you back to the house which is located at the end. Arriving so late we didn't see the actual beauty until morning. The grand kids loved it. When they woke up and looked out the back window they saw cows walking up the hill which is directly out the window. Beautiful creek running through a grass field. Hills all around. This is a working farm as I followed some cows going out to the store until they decided I could use the road. Sheep are also roaming freely. And the sheep dog, he works there too. Please watch out for all these animals. Being a working farm the house is located inside a gated area so you have to open and close a gate, this is not difficult at all. We had a great night sleep. This place is beautiful!

    John2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful very rustic blend of buildings! The property is gorgeous and a great river flowing through. Very close to interstate as you actually drive under it coming down driveway but no noise and you feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere all alone. Very private!!! You will be driving on a dirt road through the cow field so be prepared to wait on friends to move off road and road may be very muddy! Beautiful area would stay again!

  • I absolutely loved the evening spent in this adorable home. If you are a lover of horses, you will be in awe of the collection of equine art and pieces used in this house. I loved the beautiful old hardwood floors, the house was super clean and the bed I slept in was very comfy. You can tell there is a lot of pride taken to make sure you are comfortable here, and I will definitely be back if in the area again.

Our cabin is on Route 16 otherwise known as the Back of The Dragon, near Hungry Mother's State Park, a winery and some great family owned dining. You’ll love our cabin because of the quiet serene setting, the view, and the ability to completely relax. It located near many outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing. Disclosure to those operating motorcycles - the access road to the cabin is gravel. There is a flat spot at the bottom of the hill just below the cabin to park motorcycles.
This cabin rental comes with your own private picnic area, fire pit, mini bar and charcoal grill, microwave, mini fridge, and hot plate. There is also a second rental just about this rental available on Airbnb as well, "The Iron Horse" is also rented thru Foxtail Orchards Cabins and Campgrounds, LLC. The cabin is around 300sq ft total.
Enjoy the sounds and setting of living in the country.

  • My boyfriend and I traveled from Richmond, VA to celebrate our four year anniversary and it was so worth the drive. It was so cozy and we got to enjoy some snow. Check in was super easy and convenient, and the views were awesome. The cabin included anything extra we might need for our weekend stay. It was super clean and secluded, however a little further from activities we had read about. Super cozy and an awesome weekend getaway! Thanks to Foxtail Orchards for an awesome experience!

  • A wonderful cozy cabin. Very remote location, so great for staying in for a cuddly weekend. Activities outside are a bit of a drive, but the area is absolutely gorgeous. The driving alone was worth the trip! If you have the chance, make the drive from Tazewell to Hungry Mother State Park by the Dragons Backbone road, one of the greatest drives I have ever taken, and I’ve driven coast to coast.

  • My friend and I had such a great couple of days here. The area is very quiet (aside from the occasional ‘moo’ from a cow) and peaceful and the view from the cabin is awesome! It’s mountains as far as the eye can see. We sat at the top of the property and watched the shadows from the clouds move across the mountains. It was breathtaking. Check-in was simple and the cabin was cozy and squeaky clean. It was also stocked with plenty of extra towels, blankets and pillows, which was a nice touch. The shower was actually a lot bigger than I thought it would be and the water was nice and steamy. Great place to stay if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle for a bit. Thank you for letting me enjoy this little slice of heaven for a few moments! Rest In Peace Brandon and from one veteran to another, thank you

  • Not difficult to get to. Don't be intimidated by the gravel road to the cabin. These are clean, very comfortable and wonderful quiet and cozy. The thoughtful touches for our military ( Brandon) was wonderful. I would strongly suggest this for a stay over.

  • The hosts were amazing. The cabin and location were beyond our expectations. Loved the views. Be sure to visit Matties Amish General Store in Burke’s Garden (the location that is actually at her homestead, not the Burke Garden General Store). Also be sure to turn left out of the cabin drive way and venture up the mountain on BF Buchanan Hwy. If you have time, visit Hungry Mother State Park (bear territory!) Cannot wait to go back. Thank you so much. God bless!

Relax on the New River in the renovated hayloft of a horse barn -- perfect for a peaceful country getaway. Located at the end of a winding rural road, this apartment is on a working cattle farm with 3/4 mile frontage along the New River. Hike, fish, canoe, or just watch the hawks, deer, geese, and turkey.
As mentioned, our "River View Getaway" apartment is actually a renovated hayloft above an old horse barn. Although there are no horses currently in residence, the property is located on a 94 acre working cattle farm. (No animals will be stored in the barn during your stay, but you may see cattle in the fenced off paddocks.) Enjoy sitting on the rocking chair porch overlooking the fields and New River. You may spot some of the local wildlife including white tailed deer, canadian geese, or wild turkey. Although not commonly seen, black bears, coyote, and foxes may also live in the area. Inside the barn loft apartment, you will find all the comforts of home including an open living area with leather sofa (which pulls out to queen sized bed), dining area, and kitchen. The full sized bathroom is off the hallway. The rear of the apartment contains a large bedroom with skylight and King sized bed. All linens are of course laundered between each stay including the Duvet covers. (So no dirty bedspreads or blankets!) We will provide toilet paper, papertowels, trash bags, dishsoap, and travel-sized bathroom toiletries, however for long stays you will be responsible for additional supplies. There are large flat screen televisions in both the living room and bedroom. We provide Dish Network satellite TV with all the network stations as well as HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, and many more. High speed gaming/streaming internet is unfortunately NOT available in this area. However we provide a Verizon Hotspot for internet access so you can check your email and research information. It should be noted that this property is located at the end of a long winding country road, which becomes a one lane gravel road near the end. There are 19 steps up to the front door. A number code on the front door allows for self check-in.
The town of Fries (pronounced "freeze") is about 10 minutes away, along with two nearby access points for the New River Trail. About 12 minutes away, across from one of the more scenic New River Trail access points, you will find "New River Outdoor Adventures." This is a local company that provides shuttle services and rentals for canoes, kayaks, tubes, biking, fishing, etc. They also sell live bait and tackle for all your fishing needs, as well as fishing and hunting licenses (either short or long term). If you call (276)237-TUBE(8823) they will customize whatever adventure you might want for your group, including pick up at the farm, (which is known locally as the Delp's Beach farm.) The city of Galax is about a 15-20 minute drive. Within Galax, you can find many restaurants, antique stores, a quaint walkable downtown area, a small movie theater, and of course Super Wal-Mart, among other amenities. The Rex Theater in Galax hosts weekly live music and other special events. The Fries theater in Fries also hosts live music events. The wonderful Blue Ridge Music Center can be found on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 213. This facility includes a large outdoor amphitheater with summer concert series, an award winning music museum of old-time music, and DAILY display of free music from local musicians. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is only 14 miles away, or about a 25 minute drive.
  • Our stay at the barn was great. It was nicer than we expected. Very private. We didn’t see one person while we were there, which we loved😊 We were giving detailed directions and found it very easily in the dark which is good given its remote location. Would definitely go again!

  • Our recent stay at Joan's River View Getaway was our first trip using Airbnb. Joan is a fantastic host and made our first stay a truly effortless experience. Her place is amazing and she made the whole process a delight. Check-in/out was super easy. Joan provided us with very clear and concise driving directions, as well as great directions for entering/exiting the property. This little gem of a place is perfect if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, peaceful, opportunity to re-charge your batteries. Joan's place is very clean, neat, and tidy. The property is nicely secluded, yet you're only minutes from town should you need supplies, or if you're looking for activities. My husband and I enjoyed watching the little bit of snow that fell, the birds roosting in the tree near the porch, and the beautiful stars on the clear nights. The New River is just a very small walk away for the house so it would be great for those warmer months of the year! All-in-all we were extremely pleased with River View Getaway and we hope to stay again in the future.

    Angela2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Joan was quick to respond to our reservation and a needed change of date. The place was perfect for a child-free getaway, though kids might enjoy all the space to play outdoors. Loved walking along the river and in the field. Bed and pillows were super-comfortable. A fun selection of family games was provided as well. We'd love to return!

    Donna2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

  • We have stayed in several Airbnb rentals. Most of them were very good but this was the best ever! Honestly the photos do not do it justice. The location was perfect for riding our bikes on the New River Rail Trail. Sitting on the porch overlooking the stream was a perfect way to start and end each day. Very tastefully decorated. And while this is a pet friendly rental there was no odor at all. But there was the really scent of the soap in the bathroom! The bed was comfortable! The lighting was great. The treats were delicious. It was super quiet and relaxing. The towel warmer...what can I say??? I felt very pampered! We spent a wonderful three nights and even when it rained all day one day we enjoyed relaxing and listening to the rain on the roof! Well done!!

    Denise2019-10-31T00:00:00Z

  • My wife and I and 2 teenage sons loved staying at Cassandra's cozy cabin in the Virginia highlands. Great place to unplug and enjoy some quality family time. There are many nearby outdoor opportunities not to miss including . . . A) an easy hike amid the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands state park where we took in 100 mile views in every direction and . . . B) a 20 mile bike ride on the Creeper Trail that we hear is a gentle down hill all the way. We plan to do this one on a return trip as well as bring our fishing rods to see if we can hook a few wild trout in the nearby rivers and streams.

The house was clean, wifi worked great (which was necessary since there was no cell service), and within a reasonable distance of everywhere we wanted to check out. Also, the hot water never ran out in the shower, something I’m always looking out for when staying off the beaten path :)

Artisan home surrounded by 15 acres with a 150ft waterfall a few feet off the front deck. If you are looking for WI FI and TV this is NOT your vacation. Looking for down time? Looking for inspiration? Looking to reconnect with nature and disconnect from the speed of the world this IS the place for you.
Craftsman build. Custom interior. Unique experience lying in bed looking at the Falls. It feels like you are anywhere in the world but Independence Va.
Beautiful rolling hills with pasture and cows surround you as you drive up.
  • Second stay at the falls house. A spa-like retreat that must be experienced. Cozy, amazing accommodations. Caroline is a gracious host & very easy to communicate with!

  • This place is truly paradise! The waterfall in the back is absolutely stunning & an amazing sight to look at. We literally sat in the chair looking out at the waterfall for hours and the sound of it is so relaxing! Definitely secluded, no cell service & no tv but it was absolutely perfect for us. Best weekend we have ever had and the most relaxing!! We will most definitely go back and suggest everyone to check this place out!

  • This space is pure magic. The quiet, the beauty of the waterfall, the deer that visit the yard are so special. Caroline has decorated the home in such a stylish but comfortable way. This is a great place for a romantic get away or even a solo trip for someone wanting peaceful solitude. We can't say enough good things about it. There are restaurants near by but we cooked simple meals in the kitchen and never left.

  • This was the most wonderful way to get away in the mountains for a few days. The falls were amazing and the cabin had everything needed to rest and relax. We will definitely be returning.

  • I booked this place for my parents to have a getaway weekend for moms 71st birthday! They absolutely loved it, as I knew they would. The told me the falls were just amazing and they loved the little cabin!

  • It is truly such an amazing little spot! Second time booking, will be returning again. Awesome house in a beautiful setting!

  • Wish I didn’t have to leave lol pictures didn’t do the views any justice something that can only be mentally captured. But highly suggest too try & capture it all. I love this secret hiding spot very peaceful will definitely be returning in the spring. Caught some snow so I couldn’t really enjoy the outdoors like I wanted too but the house was more than enough fun wasn’t bored not once even without any service. - p.s.: caught pretty good service in Wytheville about 40mins away from the home.

***All trail currently open at Grayson Highlands*** The cabin rests on a secluded, two-acre tract that adjoins the Jefferson National Forest at an elevation of 4100+ft. Enjoy 400 feet of your personal, private creek frontage, three miles from Grayson Highlands Park, twelve to Mount Rodgers. Cook out, roast s’mores, explore, and relax by the bold creek. While the cabin has no cable, there is WiFi. It is a very rural area, though, so it can sometimes be spotty.
The cabin’s wormy chestnut cabinets and countertops were constructed from repurposed chestnut removed from the property’s homestead, which dates from the early 1900s. Furniture throughout features warm, fragrant pine. A large porch wraps around two sides of the cabin and offers views of the property’s boulders, laurels, and creek. Modern appliances and a fully-stocked kitchen offer a carefree stay.
The driveway to the cabin runs between two families who have been on their land for generations. They are warm and welcoming.
  • The cabin is a wonderful escape from the city! It is clean and well appointed as described. Virgil is an outstanding host and has thought of just about everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. The area is beautiful and everyone in the area was so warm and welcoming. We wilk definitely be coming back! The Grayson Highlands are a majestic place!

  • A true get away! Creek, fire pit, rope swing for the kids, and national forest behind property. 10 minute drive to Grayson Hiland state park. General store 5 minutes for supplies and firewood. 5 stars!!

  • Virgil is an amazing host! The best communication ever! Was able to book this beautiful cabin approximately 3 hrs before we arrived because of his super fast communication and thoughtfulness! He even went so far as to turn the porch light on and turn on the fireplace to warm the cabin up! Beautiful cabin in a quaint country setting with a creek right next to it! Gorgeous porch! Lovely cabin, very comfortable and clean! Highly recommend this place! Thanks again for a great experience!

  • Me and my friends had a blast at Virgil's cabin. The furnace was super nice and cozy and this place was super close to Grayson Highlands State Park which we enjoyed.

  • Cozy cabin tucked away in the mountains! Beautiful setting next to a creek. Had everything we needed! Had some issues with the fireplace but Allie and Virgil were very responsive and helpful! We stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • Virgil’s cabin is a beautiful get away and the surrounding woods and sound of the nearby creek are so peaceful. The cabin was very clean and perfect for our family.

  • When I booked this space, I daydreamed about our candlelit thanksgiving dinner on the porch and ending the night sitting by creek with a fire going and just reflecting on the last year - taking it easy before a morning hike with our four kiddos to see the wild ponies! It truly is a sweet spot to count your blessings and make memories. Unfortunately, a terrible wind storm and 30 degree temperatures kept us inside the entire time... which was still sweet in it's own way. Instead of climbing all trees and rocks, my kids conquered the bunk beds and a spiral staircase. We still had our candlelit dinner and my kids drank their milk out of the fancy wine glasses they had in the cabinets! We look forward to a return in the spring/summer where we can fully live out all our Grayson County Highlands daydreams and even dip our toes in the creek! :)
