Set between Buena Vista and Leadville and just 40 miles to Aspen in the summer, this is a perfect retreat for outdoor enthusiasts. Walk to the lake, bike endlessly, hike 14ers, snow shoe, ski, read by the fire, be on the Leadville 100 track in Aug.

  • Jessicas place was the perfect get way. My husband, my dog, and I truly enjoyed the beautiful views. Jessica is a wonderful host! We were very unprepared for our trip, and Jessica provided a couple things for us to borrow and made our trip so much easier overall!

Check out all the rooms in our guest house! Located in downtown Leadville, The Colorado Trail House is the perfect base camp to explore the high country of the Rocky Mountains. Our 120-year-old Victorian house is within walking distance to everything in Leadville. We have eight rooms ranging from king beds to bunks, all with private bathrooms. Playing in the mountains means an early start for many of our guests so we aren't a party house but the bars are close if you want to stay up late.
We know that many of you are hiking the trails prior to arrival and are not always able to control your arrival time. Nonetheless, you may NOT check in before 3 PM. We are preparing the rooms. Please do not enter the Bunk House to drop off your gear. Also, the gazebo and outdoor spaces are for registered guests only. Out of respect for our current guests, please do not allow your friends who are not our guests to loiter on the property while you wait to check in. The Bunk House has its own entrance in the Carriage House. There are two sets of bunk beds in a spacious 400 sq.ft. room. The windows face the quiet alleyway behind the house and the neighbor's Carriage House. There is one attached bathroom, which includes a shower over claw-foot tub, sink, and toilet. You will share this room with up to three other people and you sometimes (but not often) may share the bathroom with up to five other people. **Potential Noise Warning** The hosts live above you in the Carriage House so you will hear them living their day-to-day lives. The ductwork can mean that conversations can be heard between floors and rooms. You share a wall with another guestroom, which accommodates two guests and noise and loud conversation carries between these rooms. Please, no banging of doors or loud noises, to respect your fellow guests. Quiet hours from 10 pm to 7 am will be strictly enforced. There is no TV in the room. We have high-speed (as far as Leadville goes) wireless internet within this room and all communal areas of the house including outside. The Guesthouse has a communal style approach to accommodation. You can retreat to the privacy of the room or hang out in one of the common areas and meet and mingle with other guests. With our downtown location, you can mix with like-minded outdoor enthusiasts and have a unique taste of what it's like to live like a Leadville local. You can use all outdoor facilities including the gazebo, grill, and hot tub (when in operation). Inside the main house--the kitchen, living room, dining room, and washer/dryer are also available for your use and are all communal.
Leadville is a 2 - 2.5 hour drive from Denver International Airport. We are centrally located 1 block back from Harrison Ave (Main Street) and within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in town. We have on-street parking, which is angled in summer and parallel in winter. Leadville can be very busy if there are special events in town but parking can usually be found within one block of the house. There are several put-in points close by to the Mineral Belt Trail which is groomed for X-Country skiing in the winter and is a paved bike track in the summer. We are a 15-minute drive to Ski Cooper and Tennessee Pass and a 25-minute drive to Copper Mountain Resort. Vail, Beaver Creek, and Breckenridge ski resorts are all less than an hour away. Our historic town still holds the old-time western town feel with most buildings downtown over 100 years old. Harrison Avenue is filled with coffee shops (City on a Hill), restaurants (we love Treeline, Quincy's, and Tennessee Pass Cafe), bars (Scarlet Tavern and Silver Dollar Saloon), Pb Brewery, many quirky art studios (HarperRose), gift stores (The Delaware) and retailers. You can spend minutes or hours just on that one street alone.
  • Great hostel. Nice shower water. Recommend!

  • I have stayed one night on my travel tour through the US at the Colorado Trail House. It was so nice sitting in the hot tub, relaxing in a quite neighbourhood and walking around in the city the next morning. I have met there some guys which are on a hiking trail through leadville and having days off. They were all so friendly, also the householders (they are very helpful, it doesn't matter what). I can highly recommend this accommodation.

Historic Western crib house with an updated, cozy interior + front porch facing the mountains! Sitting at the foot of Mt Elbert in the quaint historic village of Twin Lakes, CO, this cabin is perfect for a single. The building is obscured from the road for extra privacy. Whether you decide to partake in one of the area's adventures—or just soak in the quiet beauty—stargazing in the evenings + a cool mountain breeze await. *SEE END for EXTRA STEPS we are take host safely in light of COVID-19*
A true "wild-west" building - all of the updated comforts of home in a historic cabin structure dating from the 1800s. We believe this is the oldest building in town! This cribhouse was actually hauled from Leadville, when a previous owner of the property won it in a round of cards! Once attached to a brothel, western "Cribs" were where single women slept, as well as entertained men in the olden days. Originally just a single room with a window (kitchen and other things in the main house that cribs jutted out from) now a bathroom and kitchen area is in this little space. It's a really fun place to stay! The "Crib" has off street parking, and as its own building, you have your own door and front porch! The patio (steps from your front door) may be shared with guests staying in the another small cabin but you also have your own outdoor space, should you want to distance! The indoor living space is small, yet comfortable and amazingly functional, with easy access to what modern people might need. There's also a glass chandelier, oil paintings, and lots of mirrors as a playful nod to what this building once was :) Full kitchen: The kitchen is small but concise and efficient! There is a copper kitchen sink, gas range and oven, granite countertops (with enough space to prep dinner!), half fridge and freezer perfect for one (see pics). All stainless pots and pans, toaster, coffee maker, and pretty much any utensil you'd need to create a delicious meal! Dining area: A handmade, sturdy, collapsible oak dining table large enough for two (wooden chairs to match tucked away but easily accessible). When the table is flipped down/collapsed, you have more than enough floor space for even the most complex yoga poses. .75 bath: Shower, privy, copper bathroom sink, shelving, mirrors! Hot water on demand :) Sleeping area: An extra-long memory foam/coil hybrid mattress sits on a solid wood day bed. Fit with 100% supima cotton sheets, comforter, blankets, and variety of pillows you'll sleep like a baby. All blankets have and always will be washed and disinfected between guests, and pillows and mattresses are zipped in ANTIMICROBIAL covers! You will find a pull out trundle drawer below the bed, where you can easily store clothes and other personal belongings. Hangin' out and auxiliary: Our extremely comfortable XL twin solid wood day bed doubles as a sofa! We've outfitted it with lots of pillows so you can sit up comfortably to read, stream tv/movies on the 24" flat screen tv (Roku!) Several cabinets and drawers are available to keep your belongings organized. Your own private front porch, and a shared patio with mountain views! Charcoal grill on the patio (we provide grilling utensils solely for your use)! *ENHANCED CLEANING ROUTINE IN LIGHT OF THE COVID-19 EPIDEMIC* Not as fun-sounding as the rest of this description, but extremely important to address! As our reviews confirm: we have always been devoted to offering a clean space, but we are now taking disinfection to the next level! Below is what we are doing to keep our SPACE—and guests—as safe as possible for people of all ages. 1. We are diligently following and remaining UPDATED with cleaning protocols in light of Covid-19, per CDC as well as: AIRBNB's newest cleaning protocols https://www.airbnb.com/resources/hosting-homes/a/cleaning-guidelines-to-help-prevent-the-spread-of-covid-19-163 Colorado state, and Lake county's cleaning protocols 2. EXTRA TIME SPACED BETWEEN GUESTS / CLEANERS: 36-72 hours (longer than the recommended 24 hours). To keep cleaning staff, ourselves, guests, and our community safe! No one will even enter a rental sooner than 36 hours after the last person has left. This reduces the chance that anyone "new" will be subjected to a virus (or spread it)! 3. Our mattresses and pillows have always been zipped up in waterproof covers that are easily disinfected, then covered again for comfort and breathability, which are also disinfected in our washer/drier on premises). 4. Extra care taken to disinfect often-touched surfaces—knobs, railing, cabinets, pulls, pushes, switches, buttons, and more, of course, as well as our games and other things that may be handled. OUTDOOR areas (grill, outdoor the umbrella handle for opening the umbrella, etc) will be sanitized. 5. Clutter is distracting, and we try to avoid having any extra things lying around. This is especially important right now because of the spread of illness, so we consider this a safety issue, too.
The quaint village of historic Twin Lakes retains the laid back and relaxed feel of Old Colorado, which is why we love it! Our neighbors are very quiet and respectful, and many vacationers have been visiting Twin Lakes for years to relax and soak in the beauty. Nuthatch cabins are 2 short blocks from a lodge that serves food and drinks, and a quaint general store that offers gas, staple groceries like bread, chips and salsa, beer, and other things (we recommend bringing the bulk of your groceries, though). On weekends there may be a few food trucks for coffee, lunch, or a snack. There is also a visitors center run by local volunteers! There are places to rent equipment for fishing, buy bait, etc. We're only a few minutes from the Lakes (walk or drive, depending on where you plan to hang out), and steps away from hiking or walking trails.
  • A real dream suite this is. Small yet very functional, comfortable, and clean. The hosts, Adam and Bettina, were fun and helpful as well. An all around beautiful experience.

  • This was our second visit, and once again we loved every minute of our stay. Truly the perfect place to ‘get away from it all’.

  • Our stay was fantastic! We rented the cottage for our honeymoon and Jim and Jo added special touches such as a congratulations note. This really was a kind touch and made us smile. They were easy to get a hold of when we accidentally locked ourselves out lol. The hot tub was the best part for us. We would totally book again 🙂

  • Very nice quiet and comfortable space, we really enjoyed the location. Good jumping off point for day trips besides. Very relaxing.

  • This cottage is absolutely perfect. The views of the lake, the hot tub, the cozy living room with the wood stove, the stream... We had a perfect weekend with our teenage daughters just playing games around the kitchen table, cozied up reading on the couch and taking local hikes. Jim and Jo are amazing hosts -- so easy to get in touch with and very accommodating with information about the local area. Can't say enough great things about this entire experience.

  • Looking to get away from it all in a mountain cabin - this is the place for you! Close to anything you want but away from it all! We spent 12 nights there and only saw one person on the mountain the whole time! Spectacular views of the aspens changing colors right out your front door! Kitchen is well stocked with spices and other items! Great towels and linens! Firewood for inside fires as well as fire pit! There is even an outhouse should you want to be adventurous when nature calls! We had a blast and will be back!! Thanks for opening up your little bit of heaven to us all!

    Laura2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great cabin, secluded with amazing views from the porch. Small kitchen, but well equipped for cooking. The driveway is steep and may be a challenge in a vehicle, but doable .

  • Awesome property to get away to. Hope to visit again someday!

    Jeff2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin far exceeded our expectations. It's "rustic" but also very clean and loaded with amenities and thoughtful touches. The bathroom is clean, with great water pressure. The beds are very comfy with high-quality linens and blankets. Even the soap was nice. The kitchen has more than everything you need. It even had chopsticks! It was just me and my 11 year old son, but the cabin can easily accommodate at least 8 people. You don't need a 4WD vehicle but you'll be a lot happier if you have one. Don't arrive after dark like we did :) The wrap-around porch is lovely. We spent hours out there playing cards and enjoying the views. We saw a bear! Twin Lakes is beautiful. The pictures really don't do this place justice. I'm already planning another trip. Highly recommended.

    Caleb2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is a little slice of heaven! Rustic enough to enjoy all the surrounding wilderness with all the comforts of home. Warm beds, fluffy towels and a view that can’t be beat. We’ll be back, for sure!

There are dozens of trails to begin a hike or a mountain bike ride within minutes of walking distance from the backdoor! At the end of a cul de sac, it is surrounded by peaceful pine forest on two sides with the Holy Cross Mountain range spanning the panoramic living room view. An easy 1 mile walk in the other direction brings you to the quaint historic old western downtown that includes an array of restaurants and boutique shops and the towns frequent cultural and race events.
Each room is simple but includes exactly what you need. There is a closet or wardrobe in each room and a comfy bed with linens, towels, pillows and comforter. The kitchen is stocked with dishes and silverware and cooking utensils, pots and pans. There is an outside area with some basic flagstone and comfy patio furniture with round in-table fire pit.
The locals favorite coffee shop is City on a Hill. Tennessee Pass cafe offers unique dishes like fried brussell sprouts (which I hated growing up, but these are AMAZING!!) The Golden Burrow is an old historic building with great breakfasts, reasonably priced and interesting old facts with a lot of history for the town of Leadville. The Tabor Opera House is beautiful to visit and the old historic two hour open gage train ride is a must! Beautiful views departing right from downtown and offering a glass of wine or some beer for your journey while you ride! Very pleasant. Buena Vista is a short 40 min drive south and sports several white water rafting outfits. The 2 tallest mountains in Colorado, Mt. Massive and Mt. Elbert are literally in our backyard! It is only a short 5 minute drive to the trailheads of either!! The entire town is surrounded by the 12 mile Mineral Belt trail which takes you through forest and mountains, and even a self guided walking tour of the historic mines!! The trail is paved and well maintained and easy to bike or walk on. Leadville is truly the "City in the Sky" surrounded by 14'er's, absolutely breathtaking!! If you're looking to escape the city, have some amazing wilderness experiences, INCREDIBLE hiking, natural wildflower beauty of Colorado, white water rafting, or some downtown festival events in a quaint little old Western town, this is it!!
  • We had a great experience staying here. Check in was super easy, everything was clean, and the host was really friendly. It’s a really great value if you want to stay in Leadville.

A premium mountain cabin, located just above historic Twin Lakes Village, the Bartlett is a luxurious log home retreat. Named after the prosperous 19th Century gold mine a quarter of a mile up the hill, The Bartlett is our family’s get away from the rush of everyday life. The property sits on the base of Mount Elbert—the Rockies highest summit—and it is grandfathered-in within the magnificent San Isabel National Forest, giving it breathtaking views of a few 14ers and the Twin Lakes.
The Bartlett is a luxurious, rustic log home perched at the base of Mt. Elbert—the highest peak in all of the Rockies. It features sweeping views of the Twin Lakes, Quail Mountain, Rinker Peak, and La Plata Peak.
Settled initially and named “Dayton, Colorado” in 1865. It became an important transportation hub between the towns of Leadville and Aspen. The name was changed to Twin Lakes when prospectors discovered gold and silver in Aspen in 1879. With the need to move goods and people between the boom towns of Leadville and Aspen, Twin Lakes became a crucial stop on the road over Independence Pass—then a narrow, rough toll road, until the railroads provided a faster and easier route. Today, Twin Lakes is a charming village where many Denverites find a weekend retreat—and because of its remote location—it hosts just a handful of full-time residents. Peace, beauty, and solace are its main winter attractions, but in summer the town livens with residents, travelers, backpackers, and outdoor sports enthusiasts. The area is especially popular for fishing, sailing, kayaking, hiking, snowmobiling and photographing quintessential Colorado scenery.
  • Great winter get away.

    Ryan2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at The Bartlett at Twin Lakes! We spent our family Christmas there, and it was the perfect place to enjoy a fun wintry white holiday. The cabin is great, the inside has a lovely, cozy feel. AMAZING views - literally every room in the house has a fantastic view, even the bathrooms! Our favorite thing of all was the giant hot tub on the deck! It was so fun to sit in - especially during a cold and snowy day. Such a relaxing, wintery perk to enjoy. The cabin has three levels, the main one you enter - that has the kitchen and fireplace. A lower level that also has a fireplace in the living area and a room and a top level with an amazing balcony. It was a really nice set up with our family, we all got to pick our own level, each with its own feel and again great views. The kitchen was great and open, and there was substantial amount of items stocked which was nice. And I just loved the high ceilings with the windows so you can really take in nature’s beauty. Nestor was a very responsive and helpful host. A few things - not cons but just to keep in mind. Twin Lakes is pretty remote. It’s about a 2-3 hour drive from either the Aspen or Denver airport in the winter (there is a pass from Aspen but its only open from Memorial Day until late October - something we didn’t initially realize and definitely added unexpected travel expenses) and about a 30 min drive to the nearest small town of Leadville. The Wifi isn’t the strongest and there’s only one TV, located in the lower level floor. Again, not necessarily cons, especially if you’re goal is to get away and unplug, but I know my family is a very device driven group so it’s helpful to know. Also, 4-wheel drive is a must in the winter to get up to the cabin - and the hosts will remind you of that (we learned the hard way and got stuck LOL.) Overall, it’s an immaculate and lovely winter home. Perfect place if you’re looking to really get away and you cannot beat the views. :)

    Lesley2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great house with big views across twin lakes. Nice to be able to bring our dogs but stairs are wooden inside so we stayed on the main level as our old dog struggled with the slick, steep stairs. We had to watch movies from our laptop to be able to enjoy the real wood burner as the only tv is downstairs. Quiet community and a perfect spot for relaxation. We recommend Twin Lakes Inn for dinner.

    Becky2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is gorgeous. Secluded yet not too far from Leadville for restaurants and drinks. The house was pristine and very spacious with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. The kitchen has a long counter facing the dining table making it for nice opportunities to chat and drink a glass of wine while cooking. Beds were quite confortable. The house is located such that you enjoy both amazing sunrise and sunset views. Hikes and white water activities also close by (15 minutes to 30 minutes drive). The night sky was amazing and we could see the Milky Way with our own eyes. Nestor was a super host, very responsive and checking on us ahead of the rental and during rental. Process was simple. Highly recommended for family time.

  • Th property is beautiful and stylish. It had simple, quality decor that made it feel homey without clutter. The views are stunning and the home is even more spacious than it appears online. Some of our favorite times were just enjoying coffee or dinner while relaxing at the cabin. I imagine this property would be fabulous during the winter months as well as the summer when we stayed. The property has wonderful amenities. We loved the hammocks, the full, wrap around deck, the hot tub and the grill. Nestor and Monica (the hosts) had superb communication and were very gracious! The locals were super welcoming and we enjoying visiting with them. We always have lots to do while in Leadville and we enjoyed our stay in Twin Lakes too!

  • Megan’s tiny house (we stayed in Aspen) was dream come true! We always wanted to stay in one, and it was so stylish and functional. It actually felt very spacious. We were able to check in and out at a time that was convenient for us. The property manager, Joe, was also very helpful. If you are skiing near Leadville, this is a great option! The town is charming and walkable, too.

  • This was an awesome place to stay! Great location, super cute decorations and style, and enough space for two! Would definitely stay again! We love Leadville and the tiny house is the cherry on top!

  • My wife and I stayed at this Air BnB for a snowboarding trip. Megan’s place is super cute and stylish. It has the perfect amount of space for two people. It was warm, thoughtfully put together, and the perfect place to recharge for a couple days. Definitely will use Megan’s places again when we come back to Leadville.

The yurt feels very spacious. There is a small kitchenette area with a sink and coffee station. An electric kettle, microwave and fridge will help you prepare meals at home. Be aware that this yurt only has sinks and a toilet- no shower.
Downtown Leadville is 1/2 mile away. The mineral belt trail is less than a half mile! Turquoise Lake and the fish hatchery are a short 10 minute drive. The old mining area is also about a 10 minute drive.
  • The yurt was so cute and cozy! Check in was a breeze, it was quiet and very comfortable, and I would definitely go back!! Thank you

    Carter2020-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt was perfect for me and my 2 kids. It was close to town and an amazing sledding hill. We will definitely be back again!

    Jennifer2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend!

    Crystal2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The yurt was so adorable! There is not a shower and I’m not sure if that was listed but that was not a problem for my husband and I! The space had so much for us to do I wish we could have stayed more than one night! They keep it stocked with games, Netflix, coffee & hot cocoa! The only thing I didn’t like was hitting my head on the ceiling during the night! Although that was because we pushed the bed over so my husband didn’t roll off!

    Haille2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cute yurt!

    Jenny2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second time staying here. We love the space and how we can walk to the main street. It is perfectly appointed and cozy warm.

    Jayson2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • So cool and spacious! We only stayed for one night, but I wish we could have stayed for more. This yurt was nicer than most hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. And plenty warm in the winter. Definitely would recommend staying here for your trip to Leadville.

    Ann2020-03-06T00:00:00Z

  • Cassandra’s place was absolutely wonderful and one of the nicest Airbnb’s we’ve ever stayed in. The location is amazing, the views from all sides are breathe taking, and the space is so well done. Everything is brand new, spotlessly clean, and modern. The bathroom was definitely a highlight! It was perfect for a weekend away and we only regretted that we couldn’t stay longer. Cassandra is a great host and quick to respond to any questions. She also made sure to leave extra blankets out for our pups, which was so sweet! We are already planning our trip back!

The house itself is located at the end of a cul de sac and next to a forest so it is very quiet and the living room windows look out over the Holy Cross Mountain range providing a panoramic view from the dining and living room of the Rocky Mountains.
  • great stay !! Christina is a very hospitable host . Place was simple and clean

  • We appreciated having a bathroom attached to our room that we didn't have to share. It is a nice house not too far from town, though not really close enough to walk to downtown. I can't remember if the description talked about the cat that lives there. It wasn't a problem for us since we don't have any allergies to pets.

    Sharon2019-08-04T00:00:00Z

    Maja2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • I had the treat of experiencing the Abbey while being the only guest present over Thanksgiving weekend. I was delighted by the history of the space, and had fun imagining what it must have been like for the nuns who lived there. The old chapel is a delight, and has been turned into a family room, but the old piano is still present. I stayed in room 2, which I imagine must have been Mother Superior's room/office, as it has a private bathroom across the hall and is quite large. It was very quiet, peaceful, and clean, a great retreat space if you are looking for something simple with few distractions. Breakfast in the morning was also a nice touch. My only suggestions would be adding utensils and plates at all times for when you want to warm up foods in the microwave, and adding a desk in the room for study.

    Aria2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Abbey is affordable and clean. It's a perfect place to stay if you are planning on hiking the multiple mountains in the area.

Important notice: Through May 31st, due to Covid-19, Lake County health department has banned all short term rentals with the exception of local essential workers. You can only book if you are an essential worker. If you are found in violation you will be asked to leave with no refund. Please take this seriously as this is a health risk for the community. Tired of being isolated in the city? escape to the Leadville lifestyle where extra measures are taken to sanitize our homes. Breathe the freshest air there is and drink from the source of mountain waters. Go outside and get some exercise, or stay in and read a book, and enjoy the view - social distancing at its finest! At High Rocky Homes, we are taking Covid-19 very seriously. All homes are deep cleaned with all surfaces wiped down, including door handles. We are also fumigating each listing with an ozone machine that is designed to kill odors, bacteria, and viruses. Safety and cleanliness is our top priority. Perfect for hikers/backpackers/skiers just looking for a place to crash! Cozy, small 1 bedroom Miner’s shack. This building dates back to the 1870’s! Perfect for travelers on a budget who want to experience Leadville’s history without needing a luxury hotel. This place needs some renovation, but it's clean, cozy and just a block from downtown!
This place is a truly historic building in Leadville. The is both a good and bad thing! The views are great, the proximity to downtown is ideal, but the building itself has settled in quite a bit over the past 140 years. The floors have shifted, making the place fairly uneven, and the ceiling in the kitchen, shower and by the entrance is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, so taller people have to crouch or tilt while they're in those areas. That said, it's cozy, warm, clean, dry, and serves as the perfect spot for someone traveling on a budget! :) This place also has ultra fast WiFi for anyone who wants to get some work done while they're up in the mountains - or just stream some good shows/movies!
You're 1 block from Main Street! Phenomenal location!

  • We arrived a bit later than expected but the place was stunning to say the least. The view was breathtaking as you the house overlooks the tallest mountain and both twin lakes. This was so much more than we hoped for. We stayed for two nights. With a private entrance, the place was clean and quaint but roomy for two couples. Each room had a queen bed and was cozy. The entire bottom floor was private and for us to use that consisted of a living area, dining area and kitchenette equipped with a fridge, microwave, hot plate, toaster oven and sink. Just don't try to use the hot plate and microwave at the same time, because you'll short circuit the house. Other than that, the bathroom was pleasant and we had access to the outside balcony as well that we used to star gaze (also theres a telescope inside , which was amazing! Haven't seen the stars in forever like that! We definitely enjoyed Sorina's place. We didn't get to meet Sorina but met her son Eric who was super nice. We had a great time and can't wait to come back!

Built in 1879, Willard House was one of the first general stores in Twin Lakes. It is a comfortable get away, convenient to the gorgeous lakes across the street, is nested between the collegiate peaks, is a great place to hike, boat, fish, cross country ski and relax. It is twenty-five minutes to Leadville or Buena Vista and 40 minutes to Ski Cooper. It is rustic and comfortable.
In the summer Twin Lakes is destination location on route to Aspen at the base of Independence pass. For hikers, it is surrounded by fourteeners and the Colorado Trail goes right through town as does the Leadville 100. Twin Lakes attracts vacationers from around the world. In the winter it is almost deserted, quiet and unbelievably peaceful. If you feel like a drink or dinner on the weekends the Inn is open and serves a fabulous brunch on Saturdays and Sundays and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. If you just want a drink, the bar is rustic and inviting. It is like stepping back in time to read, ski, snowshoe and .... breathe. Ahhhh......

  • An amazing space with a comfortable home-like feel. Much more spacious than we expected from the photos, with incredible mountain views from just about every window. Amy and Jan were very responsive to questions (emailed through Airbnb), though we had no issues at all during our stay. We used this as our home "base" for snowshoeing and hiking in the area, and the location was perfect - about 5 minutes drive to trailheads for Colorado Trail and South Mount Elbert Trail. Highly recommended!

    Mike2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for the perfect Colorado mountain getaway, look no further. Amy and Jan’s cabin fits the bill for a rustic mountain get away. The historic cabin is a haven of peace, coziness, and the surrounding mountain beauty is breathtaking with good access to outdoor activities. We spent one day skiing at Ski Cooper (great family resort!), another day skiing at Monarch (fabulous snow!), and another day sledding down the perfect sledding hill next to the cabin on Amy’s antique runner sled! We also had a restorative and relaxing après-ski soak at the Cottonwood Hot Springs in Buena Vista. Also, there was also a local ice-skating and breakfast burrito party on the frozen lake while we there! Another highlight of our stay was a frosty nighttime walk to the cozy bar/restaurant at the Inn down the road where we had a drink by the roaring fire and saw the most amazing display of stars on our way back to the cabin. The cabin is really cool with old logs and wood floors. It is not really insulated but the heat keeps up and the fireplace helps. The kitchen is well-equipped and it has all the basics one could need. We like to cook so that was great. Amy and Jan are absolutely DELIGHTFUL! They were the perfect hosts and are full of great recommendations. They were helpful and personable and also completely respectful of our family time. We can’t wait to go back and stay with them again!

Enjoy or participate in many of the Bike and Foot races throughout the year. Spend the day at Turquoise Lake fishing or kayaking. The Duck house is a typical small Victorian built in the late 1880's.
Quick, easy downhill walk to Harrison Ave and all the action! Uphill on the way back though :)
  • The Duck house exceeded all my expectations. We were a group of 3 men and the house was perfect in every way. Cosy Clean Organised Value for money Excellent communication Parking Food Drink Toiletries I can go on and on. The host supplied us with cookies on arrival and kept in constant contact with me answering all my questions. The house had every item I needed for the kitchen and more. It was a perfect location from Main Street and plenty of parking if you have a car. It was warm and clean and as we settled in we discovered more charming bits about it. A lovely back and front garden to relax in and a fire pit for late evenings. If I returned to a Leadville the Duck house would be my first choice. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

  • The Duck House was a wonderful spot for a getaway in the Leadville area. Lovely views, great location to the downtown area, clean, and Cherie was amazing with communication. We definitely recommend staying! :)

  • A fun and quirky place to stay to check out Leadville - very close to main street and it felt really cozy. We would definitely stay there again!

    Karen2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Nicely updated home. No problem with the low ceilings and my brother and I are both 6'2". Possibly a hint of cigarette smoke I noticed when I first walked in. Wifi worked great. Nice shower. Nice sized kitchen with high quality cookware and gear. Pass a few vacant looking homes on the walk into town though seemed pretty safe. Would generally recommend for people looking for a basecamp for activities.

  • Outstanding place and location. We will be back to the “Duck House “!

    Scott2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Duck House is a cute place to stay. Comfortable, great size, and amenities. Cherie was a wonderful host. The only down side is the house’s layout. There are a few odd steps, and narrow steep staircase that are a little challenging but a non issue when compared to the rest of the house and price. We loved Leadville. We recommend going to a hot spring, Independent Pass, the National Mining Museum, and Twin Lakes. There is also a great outdoor clothing shop called Melanzana.

    Elizabeth2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • The house was super cozy and clean

    Marcin2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Cherie’s place was perfect. I was a little skeptical given her incredibly fair rates on the busiest weekend of the year in Leadville, but her place exceeded my expectations and she was an amazing host. The views from the chairs in the backyard are amazing!

Enjoy a private room in a home that is only 6 blocks from the starting line of our summer running and biking races. The room is on the main floor of the house. Shared entrance with owners. The kitchen is available for cooking as long as the guest cleans up afterward. We have a 2nd room that is also rented out for the race series so you will share the bathroom with 1 other person. The other listing is: Room with an Altitude ...in case you have a friend.
This bedroom has 1 queen bed with a small desk and chair. The bathroom is located directly across from the bedroom.
We are in a quiet, working class neighborhood with downtown a 5-10 minute walk or 3 minute drive.
  • Rene was an amazing host, very friendly, accommodating - one of the best I’ve ever had. She really went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. I stayed mid week between the big bike and foot races. She said this property usually books up 6 months in advance for those dates due to the influx of people during that time. The kitchen was very well appointed. Room was comfortable, quiet and clean. Very close to town.

  • Clean, cozy, quiet, and a very hospitable host. Excellent locale with instant access to Leadville

  • Rene and Adam are just great hosts and pleasant people to be with and around. It felt like a home away from home for those few days and I started to miss their hospitality the moment I had to leave. Thank you so much for making my stay in Leadville an unforgettable one! I can only rate this stay A++, blue ribbon, tippy top of the list, you name it!

Laundry: We have an oversize HE washer and dryer set for bungalow guests' use! We PROVIDE non-scented detergent! 3. ALL FURNITURE has been outfitted with removable covers for washing and disinfecting between guests (sofas, and our mattresses and pillows have always been zipped up in waterproof covers that are easily disinfected, then covered again for comfort and breathability, which are also disinfected in our washer/drier on premises). 4. Extra care taken to disinfect often-touched surfaces—knobs, railing, cabinets, pulls, pushes, switches, buttons, and more, of course, as well as our games and other things that may be handled. OUTDOOR areas that may sometimes be overlooked by hosts will be sanitized. Our patio, deck, grill, and the umbrella handle for opening the umbrella, etc. 5. Clutter is distracting, and we try to avoid having any extra things lying around. This is especially important right now because of the spread of illness!
The quaint village of historic Twin Lakes retains the laid back and relaxed feel of Old Colorado, which is why we love it! Greg2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Overall great quick place to stay for anyone skiing/hiking or just travelling throughout the area. It fits its purpose perfectly: just a quick place to sleep and shower while spending every other minute of the day exploring. I wouldn't really consider it the type of home that you hang out in; just a place to stay overnight. It's exactly as I expected and exactly as depicted in the photos and description. The bedroom was a little dirty (really just the floors and carpets), but nothing terrible. I just kept socks on the whole time and I felt fine. At first I thought it would be odd staying in a shared Airbnb because I had never done that before, but it was actually a great experience. As long as you have your own bedroom and bathroom (which you do here), that's really all you need if it's just you and one or two others. Also, it's proximity to all of the big ski resorts off of I-70 is amazing; definitely the best part about it. Also a great price! Overall great place to stay the weekend and would stay again.

    Michael2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The location was perfect, walking distance to the Main Street with restaurants and shops, room was Clean and comfortable and the common areas as well.

    Rebecca2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed this Airbnb a ton. It worked out great for what we needed and was a great price. It's located about 17 minutes from Ski Cooper and less than a block away from the main street (Harrison St) where all of the restaurants and stores were. There was enough parking for nine vehicles in their lot so we were never without a spot. Also, there are two fridges available for use in the kitchen - a community fridge and a personal fridge. And they provided board games, cooking utensils, space heaters, HBO Now, and Netflix (which came in super handy when we got snowed in one day and couldn't leave the parking lot). Some things/areas could've been cleaner, but I'm also pretty picky about that. The room was a nice size and my husband slept well. The bed caused me an immense amount of back pain though so I'm not positive we'll book the same room again. Alex & Nadim's team was super helpful though and quick to respond when we were afraid we'd be stuck in town longer because of a forecasted snow storm. They got back to us right away and offered us the option of booking a few more days with short/no notice at all so I really, really appreciate that! Recommendations in town: Periodic Brewing, City on a Hill Coffee Shop, and High Mountain Pies. Buy full day lift tickets at Safeway instead of Ski Cooper (you'll save about $10-12). Rent ski/snowboard equipment at a shop in town instead of Ski Cooper also. Overall, great place and great location!

    Amanda2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, easy to find, nice stay for a quick nights rest and quick walk being close to town for any meals or anything.

If you are hiking My Elbert or another 14r in the area, the trail heads are very close by. The place was immaculate, the communication was incredible, and just wow! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy what the area has to offer. The place is spacious but cozy. Just right for a couple. We cooked in the kitchen and everything worked very well. We will definitely be going back.

  • This cabin was beautiful and did not disappoint- don’t let the outside fool you. It was located “in town” and was close to plenty of trails and the local restaurant. The amount of TLC Bettina and Adam put into their cabin is very clear. It was totally clean and very comfortable. We really appreciated all of the extra information about Twin Lakes that was sent ahead of time by our hosts- it was super thoughtful and really helped us to plan ahead. We would absolutely stay here again-thanks for a great visit!

  • The cabin was just what we were looking for in a weekend getaway. We loved the location - close to great hikes, walking distance to the lodge for a meal, and had beautiful views all around. The cabin was clean and perfectly minimal. Bettina and Adam were communicative and thoughtful hosts. I hope to return one day.

  • This cabin was the perfect home base for our adventures! We were able to head to Buena Vista, Leadville, and lots of great hikes from this central location in Twin Lakes. The village was quiet and friendly and very dark at night allowing for great star gazing. The space was clean and cozy. While the cabin is small, everything is arranged very efficiently with lots of great storage space, allowing us to settle right in.

  • What a fantastic little cabin! Perfect for a solo traveler or couple who need a place to stay while exploring the beautiful area in and around Twin Lakes. The cabin was sparkling clean, stylish and perfect for my stay. Adam and Bettina were great hosts, communicating with me throughout the trip whenever something came up. I hope to be back again soon!

  • This cabin is located in a small "town" near a few other similar cabins. The general store within walking distance has a surprisingly good selection of items we needed for our stay, and the cabin itself was adequately stocked to the point that we could cook/eat our own food pretty easily. The remodeling work to the interior of the cabin looks great, so don't let the outside of the unit fool you. Being able to wake up in the morning and look out the triangle windows over the kitchen sink to see mountains was nearly worth the price itself. The fact that the place itself was clean and modern were pleasant bonuses. Communication with Bettina and Adam was quick and easy, and while we didn't have any special requests for them during our stay, I definitely got the feeling that they would've been willing to help meet any reasonable requests.
