Beautiful hikes

Some of my favorite short hikes! Hope you are able to enjoy them too!
This is an awesome trail a short walk from the house! Tons of breathtaking views of the lake and photo ops! I love that the community has preserved this chunk of nature for all to enjoy right downtown! The trail is dirt and has some spots of uneven terrain. The full trail takes about an hour with no stops and walking briskly. Even if you don’t have time to do the full trail you can pop on the trail head near the resort marina and in just a few feet have fantastic views! Well worth it all seasons!

Just a short drive (about 10 minutes from the house) the entry is marked with a cougar bay preserve sign and small parking area. Awesome lookout platform rewards you with a great panoramic view of the lake, and a chance to catch your breathe after chugging your way up the last bit of uphill. The trail can get muddy and slippery. Roots and rocks and sometimes fallen trees to navigate around or over. Because it’s a little more primitive than tubbs, can tend to be less busy.

Beautiful views of the falls from the dam. Tons of hiking for all levels. You can spend hours exploring or just pop in for a little look at the water. There are some areas you can get into with rocky lord of the rings style vibes. Take a screen shot of the map before you start, if you’re going for it! There are also well used rock climbing areas! I highly recommend this park even for a peek at the falls, picnic and play at the beach.

If you want a looong walk you can go past the city beach and continue on the trail along the river all the way to Riverstone park and back! This is my favorite jog with the dogs at night even in winter! The fort grounds neighborhood, north Idaho college campus , going under the highway bridge, the new development along the SPOKANE river are some of the highlights along the way. The sewage treatment plant is a little stinky part along the way but definitely doesn’t put too much of a damper on the fun! The trail is smooth asphalt.

Holiday lighting festivities

Day after Thanksgiving tradition! downtown turns on their Christmas lights during this heartwarming but usually chilly night!! Dress warm and be ready to be filled with holiday cheer! If you can, walk from house to avoid parking struggles. This is usually a very popular event.
Don't miss

Saturday market in Hayden

9-130. This one gets pretty busy so parking may give you a headache. I’ve always found parking just usually into the extra parking just a couple minutes stroll. The market has a good variety of vendors ; delicious fresh baked bread, fresh amazing Paella, smoothies, plants, soap, honey, homemade crafts, flowers you know cool market stuff! It seemed most vendors are prepared to accept cards. There’s even fun live music to add to the excitement!
