Explore the high country's beautiful natural surroundings.
Grandfather Mountain is a North Carolina state park near Linville, North Carolina. At 5,946 feet, it is the highest peak on the eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains, one of the major chains of the Appalachian Mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway passes by the south side of the mountain and also passes over the nearby Grandmother Gap. Grandfather is best known for its mile-high swinging bridge, the highest in America, built in 1952 by Hugh Morton. The bridge links two of the mountain's rocky peaks, and is known as the "swinging" bridge due to its tendency to sway in high winds. On the road to the summit there are wildlife exhibits and picnic areas. Grandfather has six environmental habitats for black bear, river otters, cougars, bald eagles, and elk.

Boone, North Carolina and the surrounding areas are home to some of the finest trout streams in the eastern United States. The mountain streams offer incredible opportunities for beautiful wild trout. The tailwaters have amazing hatches, and can be fished year round. Both rivers offer a unique experience and are very different in character. The Watauga fishes like a large freestone river and the South Holston is more like a large spring creek. The Mother's day Caddis hatch on the Watauga is a must see, and the South Holston is famous for a Sulphur hatch that starts in May and can last until November. Whether you're looking to catch your first trout on a fly, or looking to float through world class Brown Trout water, Riverstone Fly Fishing has something for you. They offer a variety of services and will cater your trip to your personal needs.
