“This was the most amazing place we've been on Costa Rica, and I think on Airbnb at all. It's a real hideout in the mountains at a huge coffee plantation. Wonderful quiet and cool up there. Sarah and Luis are a wonderful couple who made us feel at home from the first moment. The house is more than 120 years old and has great charm, the rooms are small but comfortable and you can stay at the whole house and the huge terrace, and in the evening have a nice chat in front of the fireplace. Sarah prepares breakfast if you wish and even lunch and dinner is possible. She made us great pancakes for breakfast the way we like it, thanks again...We were lucky there was a fiesta in town where Sarah and Luis took us, that was a very special evening and we had a lot of fun. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something really unique and don't forget to taste their coffee and the different preparation methods they have at their coffee bar. We definitely will come back one day. All the best and pura vida”
Lodging in the Zone of the Saints. Attended by the Chavarría family. A place to rest in harmony with nature and amid the aroma of the best coffee in the world. Lodging for adventurous travelers looking for a safe place to sleep.
“Sr. and Sra. Dongues could not have been more gracious and accommodating. When they learned I had so many questions about the area and wanted to practice my Spanish, they offered me breakfast on their private family veranda, where Sr. Dongues sat with me and patiently helped with my questions and my language skills. The rooms are basic, and very clean and secure. Freshly scrubbed each day, with fresh linens daily. Parking is secure. A recent equipment upgrade gives a good wi-fi signal in the rooms. Just behind the property is a steep forested ravine with a rushing, babbling stream providing a calming sound backdrop. Being about 2Km north and uphill from San Pablo, you get great views of the lightning behind the mountains as it storms in neighboring valleys. One evening was clear and the stars were mind blowing. Breakfast was plentiful and healthy and they accommodated my specific likes. Great coffee, plenty of fresh fruit, tortillas, huevos. And the kind and patient Sr. Dongues attentively tending to my every wish. The road into San Pablo is in great shape. A small, clean and hospitable restaurant/cafe, Bongo's, is about 50 yards away and is safely reached by a sidewalk (rare in rural CR). The town of San Pablo is delightful. Welcoming people and no traffic jams like nearby larger communities. Wonderful public park, a variety of sodas and cafes, and a bar with live bands and dancing on Sat. night. Local bank also lacked the long lines found in banks in larger towns. The weather is delightful. Cool in he evenings and early morns, and t-shirt weather all day.”
