Sir Walter Scotts most favourite place. Views are breath taking

The River Tweed flows South-west to North-east about 1 hour South of Edinburgh by car. There are various nice towns along the river, each with riverside walks (Peebles, Melrose, St Boswells, Kelso). Scott's View is a beautiful viewpoint over the Tweed and is famous as a favourite spot of Sir Walter Scott, Borders poet, lawyer and architect among others. Bert's in Melrose does a good pub lunch, as does the Blue Coo in St Boswells. Fishing is available on the river at a range of prices and there are good local hill walks.

One of the favourite views of Sir Walter Scott, hence the name it is known by today. It is said that he came this way so often that the horses he used to pull his carriage knew to stop here without being instructed to do so. Legend has it that after his death in 1832, Sir Walter's funeral cortege came this way en route to his burial at Dryburgh Abbey, and that the horses pulling the carriage carrying his coffin also stopped unbidden at this spot, perhaps to afford him a final glimpse of the view he loved so much.

Walter Scott loved this view, looking towards the Eildon Hills. It is said that the horse pulling his hearse to Dryburgh Abbey where he's buried, stopped here as he did every day with Sir Walter.
