Use your GPS app to find Prong Pond Rd (off Lily Bay Rd.) Turn onto Prong Pond Road. Follow the signs for the memorial, and after about 8 miles you will see the trailhead and a parking area. These back roads are rutted and rugged, a tough car with high clearance is helpful. It's a short hike to the fuselage of the plane.

On 24 January 1963 a United States Air Force Boeing B-52C Stratofortress with nine crew members on board lost its vertical stabilizer due to buffeting stresses during turbulence at low altitude and crashed on Elephant Mountain, 6 miles from Greenville. Visit by vehicle, bike or ATV in the summer months or snowmobile in the winter months.
