The South Devon Railway is a seven mile former Great Western Railway branch line, built in 1872, which runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. The steam trains run with heritage rolling stock and offer a wonderful all day, all weather attraction. We recommend booking in advance, online.

A short walk along the River Dart. Take a step back in time- journey to Buckfastleigh via Staverton and/ or chill out in the 1950s cafe with visiting owls from The Rare Breeds Farm (next to the station). Continue a further short walk along river to the weir. A mini pebbly beach is situated at foot of weir where kids (and adults) can enjoy paddling at the end of the tidal river section. There is also a Wild Swimming platform the other side of the weir and a small sunbathing area.
