The museum was founded in 1949 and opened in 1953. The building where the museum is located was built more than 150 years ago and is the endowment of one of the mayors of Herceg Novi - Mirko Komnenović (1870 - 1941) and his wife Olga. The National Museum also houses a botanical collection of more than 100 selected species of Mediterranean and subtropical plants covering an area of 1,000 m2. Museum Collections: Historical, Archaeological, Ethnological, Icon Collection.
