Why locals recommend it
One of Sydney’s oldest pubs, The Australian features a nostalgic curved bar ready for the six o’clock swill. They have a great range of craft beers flowing from ancient taps and a two-door refrigerator for bottles, with shelves labeled by beer style. Sit out on the footpath and people-watch with the Harbour Bridge in the background. It’s a happy place. If you’re visiting Australia for the first time, get the Coat of Arms pizza: half emu and half peppered kangaroo with bush tomato, capsicum (bell pepper), and lemon myrtle mayo. Or there’s the Australian pizza, with crocodile. They’re both an initiation, with plenty of good beer to wash them down.
