Tips from locals
You can visit Hardy's cottage at Upper Bockhampton (his birthplace) and Max Gate where he spent his adult life.
Both are National Trust owned. Hardy was born and wrote his early novels in Hardy's thatched cottage, Brockhampton. Hardy later designed Max Gate, Dorchester and lived here until his death in 1928. In May the bluebell woods are spectacular.
