Beautiful foliage and scene. There is hiking on the south end. Easy to hard hikes.

Nothing adequately prepares you for the spectacle of Lake Willoughby, a glacial gash between two fjord-like mountains in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Although it's been around for at least 11,500 years, the state's most dramatic landscape has a way of surprising visitors — including returning ones, like me. Its ice-carved splendor reveals itself, like a secret, and takes your breath away.

Unique, stunning, (and very deep!) Lake Willoughby has beaches, trails, restaurants, and taverns in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom. A little over an hour's drive, but a more pleasant and scenic outing you're not likely to find.

Lake Willoughby is breath taking, the atmosphere is alluring with all it's history and natural beauty. Some of its biggest attractions are its clean water, with two beaches known as the North and South end, multiple hiking trails, multiple rope swings on both sides of the lake, devils rock, paddle boarding and kayaking and in the winter ice fishing.
