Deoksugung Palace and Jeongdong-gil, which were the centers of the Korean Empire for 13 years from 1897, are reborn as 'History Walking Paths'. Seoul City announced 'Jeong-dong and Korean Empire 13' to create a walking-friendly street for the history and heritage of the Korean Empire surrounding Deoksugung Palace. This is 119 years since Gojong proclaimed the Korean Empire. To this end, the city has established three strategies: history regeneration, historical attractions, and historical preservation. First, the area around Deoksugung Palace will be connected, and historical and cultural resources will be connected to the Korean Empire Trail. Courses include ▲ Learning and Sharing (Succession Cathedral, Cecil Theater, British Embassy, etc.) ▲ Old Deoksugung Station (The Salvation Army Central Hall, Sailor Battle Site, Former Russia Embassy) ▲ Diplomatic Town ▲ New Culture and Enlightenment (Gwangmu Observatory, Bae Jaehak Institute, Seoul Museum of Art, etc.) ▲ It consists of five 2.6km sections including the center of the Korean Empire (Hwangudan, Seoul Plaza, Citizen Square, etc.). The path of the Korean Empire is based on two locations: the Seosomun Government Building (Gyeonggwan) and the former IRS Annex Building (History and Culture). The Seosomun Government Building is equipped with a 'Gwangmu Observatory' where the 13th-floor observation deck can be moved to the 15th floor to view the Jeongdong area. The entrance to the parking lot, which was in the direction of Deoksugung Palace, is changed to the opposite side to create a pedestrian access road. The existing parking management space will be reborn as 'Songtag Hotel' style cafe, the first coffee shop in Korea. The former National Tax Service Annex site will be reborn as a specialized space for history and culture in Sejong-daero in June 2018. The ground area is 2899㎡, and the open space is the historic cultural plaza. The underground is decorated with the Seoul Urban Architecture Museum connected to the City Hall Station and the Civic Office. In addition, the ward of the Korean Empire, where Kojong had been crowned with the emperor, was connected to the Seoul Plaza with a crosswalk. The floor stone is designed to mark the head of the Korean Empire following the Freedom Trail in Boston, which connects the historic landmarks so that anyone can easily enjoy historical and cultural heritage on foot. In celebration of the declaration of the Korean Empire, the city hosts a month-long 'Jungdong Month' festival every October.
