Located about an hour southwest of Tucson, this is a great option to spend part of the day and take in some great views and learn some interesting history. Kitt Peak has the largest collection of telescopes of any observatory in the world and is still making groundbreaking discoveries in astronomy. They also offer tours, star gazing programs, and have a pretty good gift shop.

Southern Arizona takes pride in keeping light pollution to a minimum for the purpose of watching the skies. In fact, you may notice Rancho Sahuarita has low-light regulations in effect, and that is why you will not see street lights. If you do want to go to the observatory, make sure to check out the website to see when tours are offered. The tours may fill up and require reservations.
