The National Hellenic Museum is housed in a modern building on Halsted, the main drag of Greektown, just west of downtown Chicago. The four-story building opened in late 2011. Adult admission is $10 and the museum is closed on Mondays. It is supposedly the largest Greek museum outside of Greece. Artifacts help to illustrate Greek cultural history as well as the Greek-American immigration experience. There are some flatscreens that show a scrolling stream of mesmerizing images of the beautiful scenery in Greece, and these images will make you want to book a trip to Greece right away. A must-see if you happen to be Greek...along with a stop at Greek Islands Restaurant across the street.
