West Reservoir Centre

Why locals recommend it

West Reservoir is used for open-water swimming during the summer, but I like to run round it on winter mornings, as the reservoir always seems to have a spooky mist covering it. Whenever I’ve been there, it’s been pan flat, so you get a great reflection of the London cityscape. From Highbury Fields, run along Newland Walk—an old railway line—to Clissold Park, one of London’s finest, with its own woodland trail. Then head to West Reservoir; dip a toe into Finsbury Park before heading back to Highbury Fields via Gillespie Park. That’s 10.5 km.

Beautiful new reservoir that has running/walking paths, a nice cafe and also outdoor wild swimming (not for the faint hearted). Look online to book for the swimming.

Lovely spot for a coffee. Walk around the reservoir to the new adventure playground. Good for bird spotting.

Fancy something entirely different? I come here for my kayaking lessons. The centre also offers sailing and white water rafting lessons. It's a bit expensive, but they provide all of the equiptment.

Not only is this cafe making tasty food, but you get to sit on the waterside and feel a little bit away from it all! There’s swimming here too but you have to book through Better leisure centres.
