A historic landmark, Vikingsholm was built in 1929 as a summer home for Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight. It's well worth a trip, even if you don't pay the $10 for the tour. A short walk brings you to the edge of Emerald Bay, with astounding views.
Vikingsholm is a 38-room mansion on the shore of Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe, in El Dorado County, California, U.S., and on the National Register of Historic Places
Check out the Vikingsholm Castle that was built in 1929 to resemble a Scandinavian Castle. You can take a tour of this beautiful home that still has a grass roof!
Tahoe's hidden Scandinavian Castle. This trek is not for the faint at heart 1 mile straight down @ 6,400 ft elev. Parking fees and tour fees, so bring cash. At the base you can walk amongst the thimble berries and reflect in the majesty of Emerald Bay before going back the way you came. There are boat tours that will take you there i.e. Tahoe Gal.
